Finally taking sleeping pills after years of struggling to sleep is so weird because like. I’m just sitting here. At 3am. Scrolling on my phone as usual. But my mind??? It’s slipping away like soap. Tips for writing those gala scenes, from someone who goes to them occasionally:

Generally you unbutton and re-button a suit coat when you sit down and stand up.

You’re supposed to hold wine or champagne glasses by the stem to avoid warming up the liquid inside. A character out of their depth might hold the glass around the sides instead.

When rich/important people forget your name and they’re drunk, they usually just tell you that they don’t remember or completely skip over any opportunity to use your name so they don’t look silly.

A good way to indicate you don’t want to shake someone’s hand at an event is to hold a drink in your right hand (and if you’re a woman, a purse in the other so you definitely can’t shift the glass to another hand and then shake)

Americans who still kiss cheeks as a welcome generally don’t press lips to cheeks, it’s more of a touch of cheek to cheek or even a hover (these days, mostly to avoid smudging a woman’s makeup)

The distinctions between dress codes (black tie, cocktail, etc) are very intricate but obvious to those who know how to look. If you wear a short skirt to a black tie event for example, people would clock that instantly even if the dress itself was very formal. Same thing goes for certain articles of men’s clothing.

Open bars / cash bars at events usually carry limited options. They’re meant to serve lots of people very quickly, so nobody is getting a cosmo or a Manhattan etc.

Members of the press generally aren’t allowed to freely circulate at nicer galas/events without a very good reason. When they do, they need to identify themselves before talking with someone.

It's early to think about this, but should I participate in kinktober? I've been thinking about it…

I’m feeling such secondhand bittersweetness right now; 100 episodes of an awesome show is a great accomplishment, and I’m happy we got this far. All the same, I can’t help that endings are always sad--like, I’ve heard that whole “don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened” quote, and I often think about it, but still. But at the same time, the end hasn’t even properly started for us yet; it’s just over for the actors and camera people and such. I imagine the editors have a fair amount of work ahead still (shoutout to my editing peeps ;) (I work as a video editor for a local historical society)). Still, I’m glad I found Gotham when I did, and it’s been a fun ride. 

I mean, it’s crazy because I just started watching this summer, but it’s cool to be here now to go through the end as part of the fandom. It’s rare that I’m caught up and active in a fandom, especially at such a climactic time. I mean this was a couple of days ago now, but still. In the broader span of fandom history... I was here, watching as Gotham ended. I feel like I’m standing with my fandom dramatically perched on a rooftop gazing into the sunset as chaotic explosions bloom around us in the encroaching night.

Based on an anon ask I just received on a sideblog.

Well, from what I saw from the pictures. From what I could find, I assume that Schneider has funnel chest, also known as Pectus excavatum.

That roughly means when the ribs and sternum grow inward and form a dent in the chest. This chest has a concave appearance, hence the condition is also called a funnel chest or sunken chest.

It can be surgically repaired. I mean… if he want to.

It may be an oversimplification but at least that's my theory or something.

Does Schneider have Pectus excavatum? I noticed his chest is kinda weird.

Yesterday I completely freaked out because a user on Discord was fussing that the iinchicore's watermark wasn't visible on one of the Paulchard prints (at first I didn't notice but then looking at the original it was really there, and likely the printer cut off the end right where the watermark was) and chewed me out for not respecting them work (the photographer) and accused me of removing the name from the photo and tampering with it. Dude I don't even know how to remove a watermark. And I didn't touch it 😅😅 I showed a screenshot that I didn't get any consequences for it because I printed it for PRIVATE use but they still said "PRiNt It oUt AgAiN!!"

Anyway, some people and moderators shut the down, almost everyone said what does a watermark matter if the person printed it for themselves. So essentially I won but still feel crappy about it. To fuss over such a trivial thing 🙄
