Excellent question! Let's get into it yuh.

𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐈𝐒 𝐀 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐑𝐔𝐋𝐄𝐑?

Every zodiac sign has a chart ruler. Your chart ruler is the planet that rules over the sign of your ascendant. I know people say that your ascendant is your first impressions but your chart ruler can also be your first impressions. Not know that but it tells you about many other things such as your personality traits, what you value, could also tell you about your appearance, your behaviour etc. The house it's in and it's aspects(depending on the orbit) can have an influence on it as well.

𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐓𝐎 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐃 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐑𝐔𝐋𝐄𝐑?

In order to find your chart ruler you're first going to have to find your ascendant.

Your chart ruler is the planet that rules over your ascendant sign in your natal chart. Like I said, every zodiac sign has a ruling planet:

Aries rising----Mars

Taurus rising----Venus

Gemini rising----Mercury

Cancer rising----Moon

Leo rising----Sun

Virgo rising----Mercury

Libra rising----Venus

Scorpio rising----Pluto (In traditional astrology) and Mars(in modern astrology)

Sagittarius rising----Jupiter

Capricorn rising----Saturn

Aquarius rising----Uranus (in modern astrology) and Saturn (in traditional astrology)

Pisces rising----Neptune(in modern astrology) and Jupiter(in traditional astrology)

I'll give you an example:

I am a Pisces rising. So I'll have to look at the planetary rulers of Pisces which are neptune and jupiter. So neptune and jupiter are my chart rulers.

In order to know more about myself I'll see where jupiter and neptune are present in my natal chart and what aspects do they both have.

If your ascendant has 2 planetary rulers you can check both rulers in order to know yourself better.

Again check it's aspects, it's degree and its house placements. I'll be elaborating on it down below.

🍥CHART RULER IN 1st HOUSE:

Having your chart ruler in the 1st house could indicate that your self-focus is the most important to you. Working on yourself is the most important to you. The impressions you leave on other becomes important to you. Because of all these traits, you can start pointing out flaws in your physical self or just yourself in general. There is a tendency of getting self critical here. You can pressure yourself to being perfect and you have to be reminded that, 'no one is perfect'. You can also have a tendency to care too much about what others think of you, that's why you try your best to leave a good first impression on others. You could have Aries characteristics in your personality. You like to lead and can be very motivational. A go getter. So your identity is of big importance to you.

💢CHART RULER IN 2nd HOUSE:

Chart ruler in 2nd house indicates that, your possessions and self worth are of big importance to you. Financial stability, financial assets, your self worth, your talents, aesthetic and often times, your voice can be important to you. You can be a possessive person and can ,at times, appear selfish. You might have a beautiful singing voice. However, like I said self-worth can be important to you and not only that, your value can be as well. You can have issues with your self worth. You can feel like you are not worthy of love or that you don't deserve to be loved. Intense emotions and thoughts when it comes to issues of self worth. You can have taurean qualities to you, or in your personality. You value your aesthetics. When it comes to romantic partners you can be possessive. Can be stubborn.

This is a personal observation but I've noticed these people tend to be good at makeup as well.

Chart ruler in 3rd house indicates that you can be outgoing, social and a bubbly person. You like to connect with people and talk about different things and share interests. Unless the planet is afflicted, you could have excellent social skills. However if afflicted, you can have trouble voicing out your opinions or thoughts or you could have trouble communicating. Communication is often very important to you. You like being knowledgeable and like knowing the most random facts. Someone could give you a topic and you'd always know something about it. You can be observant but distracted at the same time. If something isn't interesting to you, it doesn't exist.
