I like to think that Swindle literally bought his way into Combaticons. Like, some other dude was supposed to be fifth team member, but Swindle bribed/blackmailed them to drop their candidature and recommend him instead. Why would Swindle do that? Maybe, considering team profile, to have profit from selling stuff he stole during raids and operations.

Well...I have to say I know nothing about canon Combaticons and their gestalt, but I read The Combiner Quirks of the Combaticons by Gayrob0t today and this is so so good odktjfjfmfn I just had to draw at least one scene from it

Honestly, I’d doubt Starscream knew or cared what alt modes the Combaticons had in their old forms before he built them new bodies.

So I’d kinda like to see fanart go crazy with their cybertronian alt modes, since we don’t need to care about brand unity.

Heck they might not have even had the same names, I feel the whole “rebuilt get a new name” is a sadly lost part of transformers culture these days.

And heck Starscream probably named them.

I also wonder if they had larger group of members, and how they’d react knowing Starscream blew up the rest when he destroyed the other cabinets.

[ I imagine there are still other cellblocks of prisoners dismantled since Starscream only blew up one. Scary thought.]

-Rec room- Everyone: -Talking and chatting while drinking energon- Vortex: -Kicks down door- SUP FUCKERS?! -backstreet Boys starts playing in background- Brawl, Swindle, Onslaught, Blast Off, and everyone else in the room: -Facepalms and groans-

Okay Random Combaticon idea

In the dragonformers au, The Combaticons are all actual brothers. Onslaught, Blast Off, and Brawl are all from a litter and Vortex and Swindle are from the second litter making them a year apart, but the idea with Bruticus is that he is their carrier instead of their combined form. 

Not sure about the sire but Bruticus is the momther of these five boys.

Onslaught was the first to hatch in the first litter, making him like the eldest and Vortex was the first to hatch in his litter making Swindle the little Con-mech baby. 

Bruticus is a grounder dragon, as is Brawl, Onslaught, and Swindle. Whoever the sire was for the two litters was a flyer, making Vortex and Blast Off flyers.

The line-art and underlying sketch off Dragonformer Bruticus, going with the idea that Bruticus is the Combaticons carrier, *coughcough* Momther. I hope to finish coloring him, then start working on the unknown sire of the Combaticons. Idk who he is, but- yeah XD
