every kitty maid barry sprite i have worked on so far

thoughts:

Barry's dress was decently easy to sprite as it is essentially a palette swap with a skirt and a few other details. the skirt was a bit tricky to figure out, i originally wanted it to be a more straight/flat kind of dress, but it didn't turn out too well so i decided to give him a more frilly and detailed skirt. i loosely referenced the princess' dress in episode 1 of the DTM series. i was thinking about keeping his sleeves ripped but the little short white sleeves were too cute to pass up ^w^

also wanted to remove the tie but i thought it looked nice and fit really well with the colours, so i kept it

this is lifted from one of KoolTimYT's sprite edits, like the tail and ears and the blush colour, though the dress and bows are completely original art

those shrugging sprite were actually really tricky to edit, the first two were fine as the only real difference was Barry's head perspective and it being a singular pixel down in position, but the other two were kinda hard as i not only needed to sprite an unseen area of Barry's dress, but i realised the arms had a singular pixel difference so i needed to go back and fix that. also spriting a slightly different sleeve and trying to figure out the other positionings in general

spriting Barry's kitty nyah gesture hands was also a little tricky but i got a hang of it and i think i did a pretty decent job at it :)

those separate sprites with just his arms and the bows up in the corner was mainly for me to have extra assets to use in case i fuck up but i think they could be useful for anyone else to use

the pink bows were for the first kitty Barry edit i did where i was gonna give him a super colourful pink dress/suit

by the way i make all of these sprites in MS Paint and add transparency in Paint.net by magic-wanding away the unnecessary white spaces (why is unnecessary spelled like that i have had the hardest time trying to spell that stupid word for as long as i can remember what the fuck) (i guess you could say the stupid extra letters are unnecessary why is there a C???)

thoughts:

so the one on the right was made as a complete joke when i saw KoolTim's sprite and i internally went "haha but what if he like being a cat" and gave him the bows because i thought they looked cute

as mentioned before i was gonna make him a pink dress, but the black one looked better. so i was gonna give him pink and yellow socks but they looked out of place and just made 'em white.

just realised..... spamton socks..............

the early "nyah!!" sprite kinda looks like those lucky cats that wave their paw you know the ones

really glad i gave Barry the dress because the look really pulls everything together real nicely

yeah not much to say about these ones moving on

thoughts:

so the first one on the left is me trying to figure out which skirt type to use when i realised i wanted to use black instead of pink. obviously it didn't look very good. also just a sidenote the reason the outline is grey is because i often use a grey colour when spriting or "sketching" over a sprite, basically it's not finalised

the second one is me trying to get a look at how the dress fits on the shrugging sprite which is why it looks messed up

the other two are the same i think i don't know why there's 2

thoughts:

self explanatory. sometimes colour picking directly from a sprite over and over can be tricky so it's good to have a neat little colour guide on hand for any spriter

the white had black around it because i drew this is MS Paint where the base colour is, you guessed it, white

yes i know the little coloured letters are ugly, blame my brain for going "but what if we colour these in the way you see letters" and me for agreeing with my brain ignore that pretend it's not there

speaking of synesthesia: R is green. you cannot argue with me on this. R is a green letter and i will die on that hill it's just so,,, green looking

Spamfries? in my copy of Dan The Man? it's more likely than you think

he looks like he'd sell me a pirated version of COD mobile but for some reason all the menus are stretched too far off the screen, every icon is misplaced and the models are among us

(edit: just remembered i forgot to draw his popped collar literally just now after going "hmmm somethings not right about this" oh god how long has the post been up for aggg)

and he MOVES TOO???? absurd!!!

(there's no extracted animations on the DTM wiki or... anywhere really, so i got a reference in-game and tried to match the frame rate - it's not exact but it should be close enough!) (that exact reason is why it may look weird to see up close)

there so many dtm sprite posts im making but i am kinda remastering the kitty maid barry sprites i posted several months ago,,

now featuring funny moving transparent* backgrounds and not made in ms paint!!!

differences from older sprites: - slightly different shading and colouring on the dress, sleeves and bow - different sleeve shape - skirt now looks a tad longer totally not because i sprited it different by accident - different ears that are bigger, more detailed and completely original - different tail with no tail bow + grey end - different dress bow - added GUN!!!!

ahhh to see a brand new and interesting Halfbrick video about one of their newly released games and wanting to see what others say about it, only to scroll into the comments have have literally all of them just be asking for Dan The Man 2 to release............... beautiful :')

this image is just called "feral.png" on my computer and i think you can see why. he looks like a weird feral creature thing. why does he smile like that. why are his eyes so detailed yet his eyebrows are so thin and tiny. why do his hands look like unhinged claws. he's scary i'm scared

this is one of his idles and i think it's really funny because it looks like his head shrunk into his body and now he looks really disproportionate and silly. tiny little man with no neck my beloved

his old ripping sleeves sprite.... there's something slightly uncomfortable about this but i can't put my finger on why

barry's early running sprites were really funny,, look at him he looks like he's wearing pants that are too big i'm losing it

so i've kinda been drawing some remade kitty maid barry sprites, specifically his dress since i wanna learn how to draw it better. here is a little animation test thing of him punching :) (his sprites are unfinished so he's missing his bows, eyelashes, blush and tail)

i want his skirt to move whenever he does literally anything cause i think it'd be really funny if his skirt was the most fluidly animated thing ever compared to everything else :P it's supposed to be moving with the inertia of the impact of the punch!!

for comparison here's a screenshot of the raw sprites (ignore the sudden appearance of eyelashes and a tail, i edited them after exporting the gif)

i'm posting a lot about Dan The Man today aren't i? one of my absolute favourite things about this game is that there's a Robo Barry costume you can get for your custom character, and if you've played the game, you'd know that depending on what gender your custom character is, their costume changes accordingly.

if you make your character male, Robo Barry looks exactly as he does normally with the red eyes and all. but if you make your character female? she's the exact same but with green eyes and she's considerably happier than her male counterpart, wearing a smile on her face. this is so trans to me. shoutout to transfem Robo Barry <3

i think halfbrick should do a numbers game where every time someone begs for dan the man 2 to be released they postpone it by another day

cool epic guide on how to unlock Barry in DTM for free without needing other people to download the game!!!!

exactly what it says on the tin, a little step-by-step guide on how to unlock the goober himself without having to harass five friends (and then lose five friends) to download the game!!!

what you need:

two mobile devices that can run DTM (both can be real phones or one or both of them can be emulated; either will work as they function exactly the same). one of them will be your main device that you want to unlock Barry on, while the other will function as your "friend"'s device.

at least five separate gmail addresses that do not have any Google Play Games data related to DTM (protip: you can just keep making as many new gmail addresses on your main mobile device through the Google app as you need without it eventually asking for your phone number)

(oh and make sure you're logged onto your Google Play Games account on your main device before you do this. also: this guide only works with Android devices. i don't have an ios device to test this out with im sorry apple users)

step one: open your "friend" device and create a new Google Play Games account using one of the five gmail accounts you made before doing the process. make sure that you set it so that account can be searched via its associated email (meatball menu -> settings -> "Let others find your profile using your email address" under Profile and Privacy). on your main device, open the Google Play Games app, tap on your profile, search up the email address of the friend GPG account (located under your tag) and send that account a friend request.

step two: on your main device, tap on Barry in the character selection menu, tap the "OR GET IT FOR FREE" button on the purchase popup, tap the "INVITE NOW" button on the invite popup, then tap the "INVITE WITH EMAIL" button on that popup. it should directly open to gmail for you to send a referral link to your "friend" account (if it doesn't, the "MORE" button should let you open gmail there). send that email and hope it finds your "friend" well.

step three (very important): on your "friend" device, open up gmail and install the game directly using that link. it won't work if you install the game from google play without clicking that link. wait for it to install and make sure to sign in with your GPG account before doing anything in the app. if all is well and you're signed in, play through the prologue in its entirety.

step four: if this works correctly, you should be able to open DTM on your main device and see that you have received the King's Goon reward.

step five (also very important): on your "friend" device, exit out of DTM and go into the GPG app, go to your profile settings and delete all of your data associated with Dan The Man, then uninstall it. you can delete your data from GPG's settings. the reason this is necessary is to prevent any data fuckery with the game thinking you've already done the prologue even if you're signed in on another account, as that data is also stored locally on your device. delete the game and its data, and then log out of that GPG account as it will not be needed from now on. you can also delete that account too if you want to, but it's not super necessary.

step six: go all the way back to step one and create a new Google Play Games account, this time using another email that hasn't been used for this before. repeat this process until you receive Barry Steakfries on your main device. if you mess up, create a new gmail address and delete all your DTM data on the "friend account".

this process is kinda long and tedious, but it works really well and is pretty much the only way i can think of getting Barry for free without needing 5 other people and having to rely on a modded apk that doesn't even work when you install it anyway. this SHOULD be all the steps needed.
