friday.
00:46 | third
Tapping her foot on the carpeted floor of her bedroom, she debated calling Eddie to see if he was home or maybe asleep. It was Friday night and they spent every Friday night watching movies in his trailer and talking nonsense. He would sometimes play guitar and she would sometimes read to him while running her finger through his hair. However, everytime, he smoked a blunt or drank beers till he said things he didn’t understand himself. She nursed him to sleep and always took care of him during hangovers and when he blacked out. Even when he didn’t drink hard, Eddie was a handful. He was a lot to handle sober, so even a little tipsy was too much. With hesitant steps, she waddled to the phone hanging by the kitchen and quickly dialed his number before she could regret it. She hadn’t seen him that week, other than his daily picking her up and dropping her off, and she missed him. She couldn’t help the thought maybe, just maybe he won’t get high this time. Even if there was no reason to believe this time would be different, she still blindly hoped it would be.
The phone rang a few times before she heard his groggy voice whisper into the phone, “Hello?”
“Hey, Eddie. It’s me…” She paused, whispering ao her parents didn’t hear, “It's Friday night so I was wondering if I could come over and if you wanted to watch a movie or something?”
She could hear a stifled yawn across the line, “Of course, sweetheart. How could I ever say no to you?” Even in his tired, whispered tone she could hear the humor in his voice.
With a soft laugh and a wide smile, “Okay, I’ll be there in a bit.”
After brief goodbyes, she went back to her room to quickly dress into something comfortable but cute. Some sweatpants and a t-shirt with a black sweater. She left the house as silently as she could before grabbing her mom's car keys to the dusty old Volkswagen her mom never drives, and driving to Eddie’s house in the dark of the night.
***
Four solid knocks and the door swung open to Eddie, standing in nothing but boxers and his Hellfire t-shirt —which looked rumpled as it clung to him, as if he rushed out of bed and shrugged it on before answering. His hair array, eyes droopy and yet, she couldn’t imagine a world where her best friend wasn’t the most beautiful man in existence.
“Hey, you got here quick,” he smiled, holding his hand out for her to grab, “No traffic at this hour, I’m assuming.”
A quick, dry laugh and shifting to sit on his sofa, she turns to meet his doey brown eyes, “None at all, the streets are barren. I couldn’t imagine why!”
He always said he liked her best when she was sarcastic. So the smile on his face wasn’t too surprising as it reached wider than space. He sat beside her and that's when she saw it. With a laugh, “Yeah, everyone usually drives around at one im the morning!” There was a joint on the drawer where a lamp sat and a lighter beside it. Her smile fell into a frown. “Hey, I know you said you wanted to watch a movie but how about we move to my room and just talk? Not really in the mood for TV…” He turns and notices the frown on her lips. “You okay, princess?”
She hums, “Nothing… lets- yeah, lets move to your room…” She lifted herself off the sofa and walked to his room before he could even say anything else.
Still concerned, he takes his blunt, lights it, slips it between his lips and follows her. She’s already sat on his bed, fiddling with a strand of hair. After a drag,“You sure you’re okay?”
“Yeah!” It was high pitched and he didn’t trust that tone for a second. However, it was clear she didn’t want to talk about it so he dropped it.
After a curt nod, he walked over and sat next to her, “Okay, uh… what’d you do today after school? I didn’t see you and you didn’t answer the phone so I was a little worried…”
She smiles briefly, his concern warming her heart for a moment but her smile quickly wipes away when the smell of marijuana hits her senses, “I was with Steve and Robin at the video store for a little then Steve drove me home and watched Fast Times with me.”
Eddie tilts his head, “What? You-You watched Fast Times with Steve alone?”
She laughs dryly, “Yeah? Robin was gonna come but she had band practice at five so…” she shrugs as a way to finish the sentence.
His eyes shift to stare at the floor, “oh, cool.”
“What about you? What’d you do?”
He wasn’t gonna tell her that at the hour of three he waited at his van to drive her home, only to be disappointed when she didn’t show. Then waited for hours by the phone till his uncle told him to get some rest cause Eddie hadn’t realized it had been hours. But he also couldn’t lie to her, no matter how hard he tried to. He simply couldn’t. Instead, he told parts of the truth. “Well at four, I had a DnD campaign… then I drove home and ate some cereal… then I-uh… I just watched TV for a little. Then my uncle told me to go to bed while he was leaving for work so I just took a nap.”
She smiled again. “Sounds… boring.”
He laughs, “It was fucking miserable as hell.” He was far too anxious to be bored. He thought maybe she was mad at him, maybe she was hurt, maybe she was feeling upset and pushing him away or he did something wrong. She always rode home with him. Everyday. At seven thirty in the morning, she’d be at his trailer door after biking to his house to drive with him to school. Just to be together. When school ended, they met at his car so he could drop her off at his trailer to ride her bike home. Just to have a brief chat after school, to work off the nerves and be together. Plus her parents weren’t that fond of Eddie, they didn’t have any problems with him but they didn’t love him either. But she wasn’t in his van. She wasn’t there. He had DnD at four so he had to leave but he bounced his knee the whole time. He was overthinking all afternoon through to the evening without break. She didn’t need to know that, though.
“I bet.”
The minutes ticked by and soon enough, they had talked about anything and everything and it was no longer midnight but four in the morning. She decided to sleep over after Eddie insisted that it was too dangerous for her to go out at this hour. She changed into one of his shirts and boxers to act as shorts, but his chest was barren of a shirt as he laid beside her. He had a couple beers and smoked a little more. Being both high and drunk, she knew some of the things he was saying wouldn’t matter to him tomorrow. She knew if she told him what she wanted to tell him now, he wouldn’t respond well. It wouldn’t mean the same if she were to have told him sober. It also felt wrong. Like she was taking advantage of his vulnerable state to tell him something vulnerable. She felt like she couldn’t trust his words when he was high. Whether he felt the same or not. Either way, she couldn’t tell him. She was still a little angry. He was still high as he laid beside her, giggling at every word. But what he said that night frustrated her beyond belief. It was different. It shocked her as he never had the audacity before.
He whispered her name, and she turned to look at him. The moonlight hit her face just right and his filter was gone, “You look so beautiful. You always look beautiful. D’you know that?”
Scoffing, she rolled her eyes, “Go to sleep, Eddie.”
“No, then I can’t see you. I want to see you. All of you, even your stretch marks. I don’t care if you hate them because they are fucking awesome. You look so good in my shirts. Makes it look like… like you’re mine. Y’know? Not Harringtons, mine.” He placed his hand on her cheek and brushed his finger on her cheekbone. “Why wasn’t I invited? I would’ve loved to watch Fast Times with you and Steve “the hair” Harrington.” He muttered the name in a mocking dreamy tone.
Her eyes welled with tears. He had never said things like this when he was high. He had never confused her or frustrated her quite like this. The worst part is he didn’t mean it. He was in lala land, far up in the clouds. She felt safe with him. But right now? He was hurting her. She felt guilty for being mad at him because he wasn’t even aware he was hurting her. So, how could she be so angry with him when he was extremely clueless? She rolls over, smacking his hand away in the process. Her back now facing him, “Go to sleep, Munson.”
He was quiet for a moment, but with a pout on his lips, he wrapped his arms around her waist after a few minutes and held her close to him. He muttered a quick, “sorry.”
But it was too late. There were tears on her face and she had begun to shake. He had played with her heart and she couldn’t tell him she loved him now. He had broken her heart and stomped on it. Bruised her internally. It was like a mockery, like he was mocking her. He was saying all the things she wanted to hear but he wasn’t sober. He didn’t mean any of it. Maybe she was being dramatic, but knowing that only worsened the pain. She wasn’t gonna get any rest. He didn’t need to know that, though.

In the morning, she was gone. His shirt and boxers that she borrowed were folded and placed on the side she was laying on. Eddie frowned in seeing she wasn’t there. His memory was a little hazy but he felt something wasn’t right. It wasn’t just the fact that the pillow she laid her head on was wet with tears but it was a gut feeling. She always waited till he woke up before leaving. Always. Even if she slept over on a school night and she was going to be late to school. She still waited claiming, “If you’re late, I’m late.”
But she was gone.
It wasn’t the hangover that made him dizzy but the fact that he could smell her shampoo on his sheets. It filled his senses and he felt a warmth embrace his heart.
Till he overthought. Only in this case, it wasn’t overthinking.
She always helped him with hangovers. She made him a greasy breakfast with a glass of water and pain meds. Rubbed his back when he groaned from the pounding headache and made himself coffee. Sometimes, she would place her hands over his eyes when he said it was too bright. Her small hands covering his eyes as she giggled, asking “Did it work?” always gave him butterflies.
He always responded the same. “Yes, sweetheart. You’re magic.”
But the bed was empty. He couldn’t smell any breakfast or coffee brewing. There were no pain meds on the counter. It was him, a wet pillow and a pounding headache.
He spent the rest of the day like Friday. Waiting by the phone till his uncle told him to cut it out.
sunday.

She wasn’t answering the phone. Her parents were out for work till Tuesday so he knew that she’d be alone. He didn’t want her to feel lonely. That was definitely all it was and not that he ached to see her.
It had been a little over twenty-four hours without her and he was slowly losing his mind.
He couldn’t remember what he said. He tried. He thought maybe he did something that upset her. Which ensued hours of him staring out the window as he tried to figure out what he could’ve said or done. But he came up blank every single time. He decided to go to her house.
At three thirty-three on a Sunday, Eddie finds himself at her door, bouncing on the heels of his feet and chewing on his lip.
But Steve Harringon opens the door.
“Steve! Hey, man, what’re you doing here?” He didn’t mean for it to sound so accusatory.
“Nothing, Y/N’s just not feeling well so I came over to help out,” He gave Eddie a closed lip smile, “Something I can help you with, man?”
He scratches the back of his neck, “Actually, I was hoping I could talk to Y/N? She hasn’t been answering the phone so I was worried…”
Eddie was her best friend. But the way Steve was looking at him made him feel like he was an outsider. Like he didn’t know her at all. Like he was replaced.
Because if she were sick, wouldn’t she call him? She’s called me before… I’ve helped her everytime she was sick… Why would she call Steve over me?
“Oh… we didn’t hear it. With Nancy comforting her nonstop and the TV on, I guess it drowned out…” Steve shrugs.
He sees the way Eddie’s face drops. The way he stills and mutters an, “Oh. Okay. Just… tell her to call me when she can…” he goes to turn away and returns home, but Steve grabs his wrist and turns to face him.
“You alright, Munson?”
Eddie’s eyes water, “Yeah, man. Just been really worried…” Steve gives him a knowing glare and frowns as Eddie’s voice cracks. Steve was aware of Eddie’s feelings. Almost everyone could tell but Y/N. Steve pulls Eddie into a brief hug and pats his back.
“I’ll tell her to call,” Steve gives him one last tight lipped smile before walking back inside, “See ya’ later, Munson.”
“Later, Harrington.”
The whole drive home, Eddie had a stone cold stare on the road. Black Sabbath played on the radio but for once, he wasn’t really listening.
When gets to his trailer, he doesn’t wait for the phone to ring. He trusts Steve told her to call but he knows she probably won’t if she’s truly unwell, and especially not if it was a lie to cover up her being upset with him. He heads straight for a shower then for bed.
But he struggles to sleep.
He still thinks of her.

She is definitely fucking ignoring me.
I can’t help but frown as she walks past me like she doesn’t know me. I didn’t speak. I didn’t know what to say. What does one say when the person that means everything to them walks past as if they don’t exist? It was out of the ordinary so I froze. Stuck in place I watch her retreating form enter a classroom. My heart clenched and I suddenly felt nauseous. I get anxious… but never quite like this. That girl is destroying me and doesn’t even realize it. Or maybe she does. Maybe that’s why she’s ignoring me? Maybe I accidentally told her? I could say it was a lie… but it wasn’t.
“Eddie!”
Maybe I didn’t. Maybe I said something really mean…
“Hello? Eddie!”
Maybe I told her how I want to hold her in my arms after making lo-
“Eddie! What the hell are you looking at?” Finally turning to see Dustin looking up at me, furrowed brows and parted mouth.
Swallowing hard, I glanced at the door one more time before shrugging. “Nothing, what's up, man?”
Raising a brow, Dustin asks, “You sure? You weren’t looking at the door because Y/N’s in that class, right?” The curly brunette had a little smug smirk on face, “If you need help with getting a girlfriend, I have some tips.”
Scoffing, I shake my head, “I don’t need help, Henderson. And no. We talked about this.”
I start walking toward my class but the little shrimp follows me. “Sure, sure. The ol’ ‘No! I am not in love with my best friend!’ Even though she is literally the coolest person ever! She’s smart and funny and sometimes way more metal than-” I turn and give him a death glare that threatens him to finish that sentence. “Okay… just as metal as you.”
With a sigh, I stop walking and turn to him, “Well, the coolest person ever is ignoring me. So, unless you have any tips on how to get the coolest person ever to acknowledge me, please! Stop talking about it.”
I didn't mean to be rude. I was genuinely frustrated with the whole ordeal. I was beginning to be more than sad. I was angry. Why can’t she just talk to me?
“Who is the coolest person ever?” Our heads snap to Robin, who is now standing by the water fountain. She wipes her mouth of the excess water.
“Y/N. Eddie likes her.” Dustin blourts.
“Dude!” I punched his shoulder.
“Ow! What?-”
“I already knew.” Robin laughs. Again, we look at the freckled face girl.
“What? How?” I don’t have the energy to deny it anymore.
“Dude, we can all tell. You’re not exactly discreet. You look at the girl like she's heaven or… Black Sab-Sab- Whatever the fuck and drive her to and from school everyday. I’m surprised you didn’t walk in with her today,” Robin pauses, chuckling. “Oh, and you always buy her the cutest little presents. Didn’t you buy her a teddy bear with a hellfire shirt on her birthday? So cute!”
“Okay, one, it's Black Sabbath. Two, she… she didn’t show up this morning so I was actually late today. Three, the teddy bear came with a necklace that almost left me bankrupt. Now, who the hell knows about my… my ‘crush’ or whatever.”
Robin and Dustin glance at each other and in unison, “Everyone.”
***
After finding out that everyone and their grandmother knew about my love for my best friend, I had an added stressor. The day passed with me tapping my foot on the tiles, hiding in the bathroom, and watching Y/N with eager eyes. She didn’t look up at me once. Dustin was actually teasing me less and being more comforting after he saw how antsy I was actually feeling. I could feel everyone's eyes at my table burning into me. But still. I didn’t look away. She sat at another table. She never does that. She sits beside me, a queen beside her king. But there she was till she finished eating and left. She looked solemn, like she didn’t enjoy her new seating arrangement.
When the clock struck three, I found Steve Harrington's car parked outside the school. I was blinded by an emotion I rarely experienced. It was green, it was red. I slapped my hands on the open window sill.
“Jesus! Munson! What the hell, man?”
“Why’d you lie to me? She’s ignoring me, Harrington. Ignoring. I know you know I like her, apparently fucking everyone does. So, why didn’t you tell me that she’s ignoring me?” I was blinded by fury. Jealousy. Anger. “Why are you picking her up? Why can’t she even get in a fucking car with me?”
Sighing, Steve’s brown eyes met mine, I see the regret and the pity. “It’s- It’s not you.”
“Really? Why didn’t she answer the phone? Why is she avoiding me?”
“Okay, okay! She told us to not answer the phone… she just didn’t wanna be disturbed. She’s not feeling well. Nothing personal…” Steve looked me up and down before sighing. “Okay… maybe a little personal…” He opened the car door and I backed away. He stood before me and finally came clean. “The other night, you said something. She won’t tell me what but whatever it was… it fucked her up. So, me and Nancy were just hanging out with her till she calmed down. When you left I asked her to call but she said no. She called me during lunch and asked if I could pick her up… It didn’t feel right ‘cause I know that's your thing but she was crying so it felt wrong to say no.”
Nodding slowly, my big brown eyes look at the floor. So, I did fuck up.
“I… I hurt her?” I met his eyes again. He nods. I lose my train of thought. Any green or red within dissipated and I was left blue. I didn't realize when I started crying or when Steve hugged me. But over his shoulder, I see her. She stood at the doors. Eyes meeting mine. Something flashes in them.
I pull away from the hug. “Thanks. See you later.”
I rushed to my van.
I rushed home.
I rushed to bed.
I don’t wait for the phone to ring. Even though it did. It rang twice.
I ignored it.
I didn’t go to school Tuesday. Or Wednesday. But I went on Thursday.
And I had a plan.
thursday.

Y/N was sitting at her new table, all alone and sipping on a carton of apple juice. Eddie was watching but this time with a smirk. He was going to find out what he said, if its the last thing he did. He stood from the table. Mike and Dustin’s eyes followed him but Gareth and Jeff remained looking at their food, used to Eddie’s antics. He walked towards Y/N’s table. Her elbow on the table and cheek in her palm. She wasn’t aware that he was nearing her, but his eyes never left her. He plopped in the seat across from her and placed his head in his hands, elbows on the table. He had a big smile on his face.
“Hey, sweetheart.” Her eyes widened and she put the drink down. “You've been ignoring me a bit.”
“No, just…” Her eyes move to the table.
“Avoiding? Acting like I don’t exist?” He crossed his arms on the table and leaned forward.
“I tried calling Monday.” She looked up into his big doe eyes but he was fiddling with his rings.
“Yeah, after I found out from someone else that I hurt you,” He paused and looked up, staring into her eyes, “Why couldn’t you just come to me? I thought we trusted each other? That we were best friends?”
“We are!” She leaned forward.
They were close. They both realized it. Two heartbeats racing and both oblivious.
“Then why not come to me? Why not talk about it? You know I’d always be here for you, even if I say stupid shit high.” He tilts his head, secretly taking advantage of the close proximity to examine her features and smell that shampoo she left behind on his sheets.
“That’s the problem! Okay? You’re always high or drunk. Am I that obnoxious that you can’t stand to hang out with me sober?” She stood abruptly and took her tray with her. He was sat frozen for a moment before he comprehended what just occurred. She had tossed the trash on the tray out and placed it on the designated counter. He stood and followed her outside, where he found her walking toward the phone booth.
“Uh-uh, this isn’t over, princess!” He grabs her wrist and turns her to him. “What do you mean? Of course you’re not obnoxious, why would you think that?”
“How could I not? Why else are you always under the influence? I know I don’t do that stuff so maybe I’m boring or something, I just- I don’t know.” There were tears in her eyes, she really didn’t want to have this conversation. She looks to the ground for some comfort. “It’s stupid and I’m insecure but I really just have this uncontrollable feeing that I can’t tell you some things when you’re high. I’m sorry, I know there was a better way to deal with all this and I-I’m a coward. I just- I was scared to talk about it. I feel like an idiot. I don’t mind you getting high or drunk, it’s your body so you can do whatever. It’d just be nice if you weren’t fucked up eveytime we hung out.”
He grabs her chin with his pointer finger and thumb, pulls her to meet his eyes. “You’re not an idiot. Okay? Don’t cry, baby.” He pulled her into a hug after slipping a new nickname.
“I’m sorry for ignoring you, I know you’ve been anxious lately. It was wrong of me to leave you. I’m so sorry.” She cried into his chest.
“Hey, it’s okay. I promise. I’m sorry for making you feel that way. For always being stoned. I need to ask you something, though.”
“Yes?” She pulled away.
“What did I say Friday night?”
She was silent and began chewing her lip, “Y-you… said a lot of stuff.”
“Like?”
“Like… uh, that I’m pretty. That you like to-to see me in your shirts and that you like how it looks like I’m yours when I wear them… You were a little jealous of Steve by the sound of it…”
His eyes widened and he swallowed. The memory flooded back in.
“You look so good in my shirts. ‘Makes it look like… like you’re mine. Yknow? Not Harringtons, mine.”
“Oh…” He muttered.
“Yeah…”
“W-Well… what’s so wrong with that? We can still be friends even if I-I want you to be mine… I would hope that wouldn’t push you away.. I… Well, I was a little jealous of Harrington because… like, you shouldn’t be alone watching movies with questionable distance between you ‘cause who knows what could happen! I wouldn’t want that especially when I want you to be mine so… and you are pretty! That’s a given, we already knew this. We all did apparently! Fucking everyone in Hawkins knows I’m obsessed with you, so I-I don’t see why it warranted you ignoring me…I bet even the teddy bear I bought you for your birthday knows, I figured you might’ve too. But I don’t see why that has to tear us apart, you’re my best friend and I can’t promise I’ll get over it! But if you marry someone else, I’ll support it because I just need you to be happy even if it-” She put her hand over his mouth.
“Shut up!” She had a mouth splitting grin on her lips. “Eddie Munson, I ignored you because I thought you were lying. I love you. The thought of you lying hurt too much. I wanted you sober so I could say that I love you. God, I hope you don’t want me to marry someone else…”
She moves her hand to let him speak, “Dear god, no. I’d rather lose my guitar…” She looks at him skeptical. “Okay, maybe not but you get it okay.”
She giggled and that sound filled his ears straight to his heart.
“You love me?” He asked, a smirk on his face.
“Yes. Took way too long to tell you.” She stood on her tippy-toes and gave him a brief peck on the lips.
“Jesus, if I knew I could get this sooner, I would’ve quit altogether…” She looked skeptical again. “Okay, fine! Not really but you get it, okay? C’mere.”
He grabbed her cheeks and pulled her in, pressing her lips against his for longer. She could feel the cold metal of his rings on her warm cheeks and the softness of his lips that danced with hers. Her hands wrapped around his waist. She didn’t realize when his tongue entered her mouth but she knew one thing.
She wanted this moment to last forever. They pulled away, eyes glazed over with pure adoration.
He whispered, “Kiss me like this everyday?” She nodded. Eddie smiled softly. “Good. You don’t have to worry anymore, sweetheart. I’ll gladly be sober with you.”

Disclaimers: Someone calls Y/N some bad things including something fatphobic, Steve is a sloppy drunk and dealing with his own stuff, the gang is very awkward (let me know if there’s anything else) also this is 5286 words so be prepared for that
Robin lays on the couch, miserable and sobbing into her pillow as Portrait of a Lady on Fire plays on the flat-screen. This has been her everyday all day routine for the past three days.
“What have you done?” A horrified Steve asks a very remorseful Eddie.
Robin’s phone rings as ‘Mom’ crosses the screen. She blows her nose before answering. “Hi, mom…. No I’m ok…. Really. I’m fine…. No, I’m not watching sad lesbian movies…. Uh, no. I don’t think so….” Nancy walks by, getting Robin’s attention. “Hey, are you gonna murder me ‘cause you’re a stranger I met on the internet?” She asks.
Nancy nods. “Yes I am,” she answers in all seriousness.
“She says no.”
Nancy glares at Eddie as she enters the kitchen. “Idiot.”
“No. Look, I’ve gotta go, okay?… Alright, I love you…. Bye.”
“We are in this situation because of you.” Nancy jabs her finger into Eddie’s chest.
Robin starts punching the couch and pillow. “I. hate. your. stupid. face. Casey. I love you!”
“Get us out of it,” she declares as she starts to make herself a sandwich.
“You know, besides the movie being played over a million times in the past three days, it’s really good.” Steve says in between bites of an apple. “I love the use of a slow pace because it’s used to emphasize how—”
“Y/N seems to be doing just fine.” Eddie cuts off Steve before he can go off.
Robin starts quoting the movie. “Forgive me. Your mother returns tomorrow. Ugh! They just want to be together!” Robin starts crying again.
“Alright, alright.” Eddie rubs his hands over his face as he forms a plan. “Ok, I’ve got this.” He walks over to the couch and kneels next to Robin’s head. “Hey, Robin. I’m just gonna…” He turns the TV off. “There we go.”
“Hey,” she weakly says in between sniffles, “this is a really good part.”
Steve gives Nancy a nod, a part of him wanting to finish the movie.
“I know, but maybe we take a break from the gay masterpiece and talk a little.”
Robin sits up and nods, folding her legs under herself. “Okay.”
“How about you come out with all of us tonight? We’re going to a fancy club where you’ll be able to meet new people. Get yourself out there.”
Robin hesitates. “I don’t know.”
“You’re not gonna get over this if you don’t put yourself out there.”
“I… I guess you make a good point.”
“For once,” Nancy mutters.
“Exactly!” Eddie jumps up on the couch. “You’re gonna get yourself all dolled up and decked out. And we’re gonna hit the town and find you a rebound.”
For the first time in three days Robin smiles. “Okay.” She nods. “Okay, yeah.”
“Fuck yeah!” Eddie cheers. “There we go.”
Robin breaks out in a small song. “She’s going out to find a rebound. Nothin’s gonna stop that girl tonight!”
Nancy’s eyebrow raises. “Did… did she just make up a theme song for herself?”
“I’m gonna fix this.” Eddie looks over to the others. “I’ll fix this.” He jumps off the couch and runs to his room. “Be ready by seven, girl!”
Robin detaches herself from the couch and runs to her room to decide on what she’s going to wear.
Meanwhile Y/N comes back from walking Yasmeen. As soon as she lets the dog off her leash they head to the kitchen for some water. “Hi, Yasmeen!” Steve swoons as he pets her. “Who’s a good girl? You are! Yes you are! Did you get a good walk?”
Nancy rolls her eyes at the display of affection.
“If you keep that up she’ll be sleeping in your room instead of mine,” Y/N says as she grabs a bottle of Gatorade out of the fridge.
“Aaaawww, do you wanna cuddle, baby?” Steve coos as Yasmeen licks his face.
“She sniffed some other dogs’ butts on our walk, so you’re gonna want to be careful where you let her lick.” Y/N pets Yasmeen behind her ear getting her to pant.
Steve immediately recoils as Nancy starts to laugh. “Oh, ew!” He runs to the sink and runs his face under water then gargles with it.
“C’mon, girl.” Y/N smugly smiles as she walks to her room only to see Robin throwing clothes everywhere. “S’goin’ on, love?” Y/N clears some of the clothes off her bed to sit while Yasmeen lays next to her.
“I’m going out tonight.” Robin holds up different tops in front of the mirror not liking any of them. “Gonna try and forget about… well… you know.”
Y/N nods skeptically, folding her hands in her lap. “And whose idea was this?”
“Eddie’s. He’s gonna try and get me a rebound.” Robin starts mixing and matching tops and bottoms.
“Aaahhh, cool. Cool cool cool cool cool.” Y/N slowly backs out of the room, quietly closing it behind her as Robin tries to accessorize. She walks across the hall to Eddie’s room and pounds on his door. “Munson!”
He opens it to a very unhappy Y/N. “Hey, sweetheart,” he says, awkwardly leaning against the door. “What can I do you for— what can I do for you?” He quickly corrects himself.
Y/N stomps into the middle of his room with her hands on her hips. “A rebound, Munson? Really?”
Confused, Eddie closes his door. “Uh, yeah. Ya know, a rebound to get her mind off of Cassy or whatever her name was.”
Y/N sucks her teeth, shaking her head and pacing around the room. “Ok, I get that it’s only been a few days and you don’t know Robin like I do, but she can’t do rebounds.”
“Can’t?”
“She’s too sensitive. She can’t casually sleep around. She just doesn’t have it in her. Not to mention that she’s a lesbian and they basically mate for life.”
“Like swans.” Eddie has a stupid grin on his face at his revelation.
Y/N hesitates for a moment. “Yeah. Like swans. Look, Robin’s gonna be crying before her rebound can even ask “your place or mine?”, and then she’ll be worse off. And are you really prepared to live with an even more compromised Robin?”
“Well, how was I supposed to know that‽”
Y/N shakes her head and gets real up close and personal to Eddie. “Look, you’re gonna watch over her tonight. And if she gets hurt, I will rearrange your insides on the outside. Do you understand me?”
Eddie’s heart beats faster at Y/N’s close proximity. “Ok, one, you’re being very mean and that kind of turns me on. And dos, if you’re so worried about her, why don’t you come with us?”
Y/N rolls her eyes. “Because I have to work tonight.”
Now it’s Eddie’s turn to roll his eyes. “You’re always working, though! You can take some time off to have some fun with your grieving friend and new roommates!”
Y/N rubs her lips together. “Do you ever think that maybe work is how I distract myself?” She asks, averting her eyes to the ground.
‘Shit’. Now Eddie feels bad. “I… I’m sorry. I didn’t think—”
“Yeah, you didn’t.” Y/N smirks. “I’m fucking with you. Besides, you’ve only known me for four days. My next day off is tomorrow. I can’t help that you have bad timing.”
Eddie lets out a sigh of relief then chuckles. “That was really mean. I actually felt like a dick for a second.”
“Only a second?” Y/N’s smirk turns into a small smile.
Eddie laughs in response. “Okay, fine. I will watch over Robin and make sure that she has a good time. For you, princess.”
“And if she doesn’t?”
“You’ll kill me and dump my body in the Manhattan river. I’ve got it.”
“Good.”
“Good.”
“Fine.”
“Fine.”
A moment of silence goes by as the two take in their proximity. Neither makes a move to step back, waiting for the other first. Realizing that Y/N isn’t going to let up, Eddie takes a step back. “You smell really good, you know that?”
“Oh my god,” Y/N mutters as she exits his room.
Eddie smells the air around her, it smelling a lot better than the rest of his room. “Damn.”
Loud music pumps through the speakers as the group takes a seat at their table. “Isn’t this place awesome‽” Steve yells over the music. “It took me three weeks to get us an in!”
“Why couldn’t we just go to the Stye?” Eddie groans as he looks over a very fancy drink menu.
“The Stye is a hell hole of drunkards and stains!” Steve scoffs. “Its name is literally a bacterial infection!”
Eddie is almost offended. “It’s practically home!”
Steve leans over the table so he doesn’t have to shout as loud. “Please, you just like it because there’s cheap beer and you can sell drugs there.”
“Hey, you think the record shop pays enough to pay the bills?”
Robin leans over the table. “Wait, you sell drugs?”
Eddie nods enthusiastically. “Sure do! Have been since high school.”
‘Ohhhhhh nooooooo’, Robin thinks to herself. ‘Not good’.
“Why? You interested?”
Robin shakes her head. “Uh, no, no I’m good. But like—” she moves closer to Eddie so she can whisper— “like cocaine and ecstasy and stuff?”
Eddie nods. “Pretty much anything you need.”
“Cool, cool cool cool cool cool.” Robin nods along with her words. “Just maybe don’t tell Y/N. At least at first.”
Eddie, Steve, and Nancy share a look.
“Does she, like…” Steve hesitates, “have a problem?”
Not wanting to overstep her boundaries Robin flips her head side to side as she thinks about what to say next. “Yes and no. She um… she should just get over this breakup before she knows she has easy access to heavy drugs.”
Not wanting to press further Eddie pushes the conversation in a different direction. “Honestly, Y/N doesn’t seem like she’s at all affected by the um… the breakup… situation.” He’s not exactly sure how to put it. “Were her and whats-his-face not that serious or something?”
“Y/N just doesn’t show her emotions on the outside.” Robin isn’t exactly sure how Y/N‘s feeling because she doesn’t ever talk about her feelings.
“That makes sense.” Nancy leans forward onto the table on her forearms.
Robin’s eyes dart down to Nancy’s exposed forearms as the sleeves of her button up are rolled up. Suddenly realizing she’s staring, Robin quickly looks back up to Nancy’s face. “Yeah, Y/N’s more of the drink in silence type, ya know?”
“Hi there!” A waitress approaches their table. “What can I get you three?”
“I’ll take a daiquiri.” Steve gives the waitress a dazzling smile that she ignores.
Nancy refrains from rolling her eyes as she raises her pointer finger. “Can I get a mojito, please?”
“And can I get a rosé please?” Robin asks as politely as she can.
The waitress finally turns to Eddie who feels out of place in such a fancy club. “Uh, I’ll have whatever beer’s cheapest.” Eddie shrugs, rubbing his knuckles under the table. “On tap,” he quickly adds.
With a nod the waitress tells them, “I’ll have that right out.” She walks away as the four then continue to wait for more than half an hour for their drinks.
“Beer does not take this fuckin’ long to pour.” Eddie groans, laying his head face down on the table.
“What did I say?” Steve shifts to face everyone. “It’s a really popular place! We’ll probably get our orders soon though.” He’s not even sure if their orders will get to them tonight.
Nancy glares at Steve. “How soon is soon?”
He shrugs as he starts to look around. “Maybe we should get out on the dance floor and move around, ya know? Dance with some strangers, meet some people.”
“Who are you looking for?” Robin tries to look in the same direction but doesn’t see anybody looking back at the table.
Steve’s body stiffens as he becomes defensive. “No one.” He averts his eyes to the table then his phone as if there’s something very interesting on it.
Robin leans close to Eddie. “Did I say something?”
Eddie shakes his head. “No. His name is Billy. Him and Steve have known each other since high school, and it’s been messy ever since.”
“Oh.” Robin thinks for a moment. “I didn’t know that Steve was…”
“Bi. Yeah.” Eddie nods, looking around at the dance floor at the various attractive people dancing as he’s completely bored out of his mind. “But, I mean, we’re all a little gay.”
“Oh!” Robin says pleasantly surprised. “So you’re also…”
“Pan and gender-fluid. Yeah!”
“Oh, awesome! And Nancy she’s uh…?”
Eddie guffaws. “Yeah, no. She’s straight…. Maybe.” He squints as he leans into Robin. “I’ve had my suspicions for years though.”
Robin nods, sparing a glance at Nancy. They make eye contact and Nancy gives her a small nod and smile making Robin quickly look away. “Ah.” Is all she can muster up.
A small smile graces Eddie’s lips. “Yeah, she’s got some pretty gay forearms, ya know?”
Now a blush creeps onto Robin’s face. “Yeah.”
Eddie purses his lips before he nudges Robin playfully.
“Sup, losers.” Y/N appears at their table dressed in a very revealing outfit. Everyone stares, not knowing where exactly to put their eyes. “Scoot over.”
They all snap out of their trance quickly shuffling over so she can sit. “You uH—” Eddie clears his throat. “You made it.”
She nods, adjusting herself in the booth. “Yeah, well, I don’t exactly trust you all with my baby, so I thought I’d leave work early and join.”
Before anyone can say anything a new waiter appears with everyone’s drinks and a couple plates of appetizers. “Hi, everyone! So sorry about the wait.” He starts putting down their orders. “We’ve got some complimentary sliders, garlic fries, and shrimp cocktail. Again, so sorry about the wait, this first round and the appetizers are on us. Is there anything else I can get you all?”
Y/N’s eyebrow quirks up. “How long were you guys waiting?”
The look on the waiter’s face makes a cause for lies all around the table. “Oh not that long.” “Just a few minutes.” “Only a little bit.” “A couple of minutes.”
Not wanting to push further Y/N nods and lets it go. “Thank you, Gabriel.” She gives him a sweet smile. “And can we get a banana split sundae with four cherries, please? Two on the bottom, no stems, and two on the top with stems?”
Gabriel nods quickly, trying to remember everything as if his job depends on it. And it does. “Yes, of course. We’ll have that right out.”
“And, is Jay back yet?”
This time Gabriel shakes his head. “No, not yet, but I will let you know when he is.” With another nod, he rushes off towards the kitchen.
Nancy is the first to speak up. “What the fuck was that?”
Y/N simply shrugs. “I know the owner.”
“You know Jay Wickham‽” Steve almost screams at the thought.
“Oh!” Robin connects the dots. “‘Jay’ Jay?”
Y/N chuckles, smiling to herself. “Yes, Rob. ‘Jay’ Jay?”
“Wait, who’s Jay?” Eddie’s words come out quickly. Maybe a little too quickly. It gets very curious looks from everyone. “I just… I was just wondering,” he mutters, beginning a small chug of his drink which he blames for the color rising to his face.
“He’s one of my sugar daddies,” Y/N casually answers.
Steve and Eddie choke on their drinks while Nancy’s jaw almost drops to the floor.
“Oh, like— you— you….” Not knowing how to finish his sentence, Steve starts drinking.
Y/N’s posture straightens, quickly getting defensive. “Y’all got a problem with sex work?”
A resounding “no” in different forms comes from everyone.
She loosens up a bit at everyone’s genuinity. “Good.”
“Well—” Robin raises her glass— “ pink wine makes me slutty. Cheers.”
Despite the out of place declaration everyone cheers to that. “Woo!”
“And cheers to not getting black out drunk tonight and hooking up with toxic booty calls!” Nancy points a look directly at Steve who avoids eye contact.
“WOO!” Everyone except for Steve cheers this time.
Forty five minutes in, everyone is varying levels of tipsy and Steve is gone. Not only is he drunk off his ass he’s also grinding on someone else’s. No one is quite sure how Steve got up on stage, but he’s there now and he’s not coming down.
“I didn’t know Steve was so flexible!” Y/N laughs as she watches Steve’s attempts at pole dancing.
“He’s not.” Eddie leans into Y/N’s side. “He can just put his legs over his head cause he’s a whore.”
Y/N laughs even louder. So much so that people look at her funny. “That’s the funniest shit I’ve heard all week.” Y/N doesn’t know if it really is the funniest thing she’s heard all week or if the shots are finally getting to her.
Eddie’s not sure if it’s the alcohol or the low lighting but he moves even closer to Y/N’s warmth like a moth to a flame. “Now you’re just humoring me.”
It’s way too hot in the club for Y/N even with the little amount of clothes she’s wearing. She can practically feel her makeup melting off at this point. And even though Eddie’s wearing a leather jacket, and his face is red from the alcohol, he’s still leaning so close that Y/N almost has to put him on her lap.
Against her better judgment and under the guise of alcohol, Y/N makes a not so smart decision. “What if I am?” Her voice deepens and her chest presses into him.
Normally, guys like Eddie would further the flirtation. Maybe lean into Y/N’s neck or put a hand on her thigh. Instead, Eddie flushes redder than Y/N’s lipstick and recoils. “Uh— I uh— well that’s actually really—” he clears his throat— “really… nice of you?”
Surprised and not knowing where to go from here, Y/N is thankful when Robin walks up to the table. “Y/N, our song is playing! Let’s go!” Robin pulls Y/N onto the dance floor and away from Eddie as ‘Mercy’ by Kanye West plays. This is not Y/N and Robin’s usual ‘Everywhere I go’ or even ‘Goodies’.
“What’s up?” Y/N sways her body to the song, trying to get a reluctant Robin to dance with her.
“What’s up? What was my number one rule about moving into the loft?”
Y/N sighs and rolls her eyes. “Don’t sleep with anyone. Got it.”
“Besides, Eddie seems really nice and you’d eat him alive.”
Knowing that Robin is probably right, Y/N shrugs and nods. “Fair enough.” Y/N grabs Robin and pulls her deeper onto the dance floor. “Ok, no more trying to get laid or flirting. We are going to dance!” She gives Robin a spin and the two start dancing. “Dance!”
Well, Y/N is dancing, and Robin is… well, she’s doing Robin.
The night comes to a forceful end when Steve gets so drunk that he can barely stand.
“It’s only been fifteen minutes,” Robin says, astounded.
“Goddammit.” Nancy sighs. “Eddie.” She gestures for him to get Steve but Y/N steps in.
“I’ve got this.” Y/N walks over to where Steve is hanging off the guy he’s been feeling up for the past half an hour. “Hey, Stevie, it’s time to go.”
“Woah woah woah—” the guy gets in between Y/N and Steve— “where do you think you’re goin’?”
Y/N steps up to the guy who’s got almost a foot on her. “Excuse me, asshole?”
Eddie, Nancy, and Robin quickly run up to the scene. “Hey, what’s goin’ on here?” Robin quickly tries to diffuse the situation, knowing where this is going.
“This bitch here is trying to ruin our fun.”
“Excuse me‽ Bitch‽ No, I’m gonna fuck this cunt up.” Y/N starts taking her earrings off as Robin vehemently shakes her head.
Eddie gets in front of her. “Hey, look,” he tries to reason with the guy. “Our friend here—” he gestures to Steve— “is not exactly in a position to give consent anyways. So, we’re just gonna get him home and you can enjoy the rest of your night.”
“Yeah, well, I was already enjoying my night before you all showed up. So, we’re gonna continue here and you all—” the guy steps up to Eddie and gives him a push with each word— “can fuck off.”
“Look, man—”
“Bro, do you wanna fucking go right now?”
Y/N can’t help but roll her eyes. “Hey, asshole—”
“I’ve got this, Y/N.” Eddie quickly intervenes making Y/N even angrier. “Let’s not make a scene in this nice club, alright?”
“Hey,” Steve speaks up, “I’m— I’m good g—” hiccup— “guys.”
“See—” the guy gets chest to chest with Eddie— “your boy’s good.”
Robin shakes her head. “He really isn’t.”
Everyone looks at her, making her shrink back.
“Can we just drop this?” Nancy gets behind Eddie. “How ‘bout we get you a beer and call it good, alright?”
“Get your bitches in line, man.” The guy shoves Eddie into Nancy making the two stumble.
“That’s it.” Y/N steps in front of the two and shoves the guy back. “Fuck off, dickless! We’re taking Steve and if you’ve got a problem with that then we’re gonna have a problem, got it?”
The guy gives a cocky smile and nods. “Sure, Miss Piggy. Step back before you hurt yourself.”
“Woah!” Everyone goes to back Y/N up but she holds her hand up stopping them.
“If you wanna go we can fuckin’ go. I will rock your shit, bitch!”
“Bring it, bitch!” The guy shoves her hard enough to make her step back.
Eddie goes to step in but Y/N’s fist collides with the guy’s face before he can do anything. Much to everyone’s surprise the guy goes down. The club’s patrons now turn to the scene. “Y/N!” Robin scolds her, holding her back before she can do anymore damage.
“Holy shit!” Eddie holds his fist over his mouth. “How did you—”
“We’re going home!” Y/N goes for a jaw-dropped Steve and easily throws him over her shoulder.
“Ooh!” Steve giggles uncontrollably. “Strong man!”
“We got a problem here?” One of the bouncers walks up to the group.
Y/N shakes her head. “Nah, we’re good, Dennis.”
The man realizes who she is and nods. “Sounds good, Y/N.”
Nancy and Eddie look at Y/N with complete shock and awe.
“Let’s go.” Y/N makes towards the exit as the others follow.
Once they’re outside Eddie starts bouncing around excitedly. “Oh, that was so awesome! He was like “bitch!” and you were like “cunt!” and then you just fuckin popped him in the face! Holy shit, that was amazing!”
Nancy nods in agreement. “That was really cool, not gonna lie.”
Robin only shakes her head, not as enthused as the others. “You didn’t need to escalate that, Y/N.”
“I did what needed done.” Y/N whistles for a taxi and gets Steve inside.
“You were like Batman back there.”
Y/N can’t help but guffaw. “Batman wouldn’t have stooped to punching some random asshole. I’m more like Marc Spector. A little insane and very much willing to punch dickholes in the face.”
The entire ride home is filled with Eddie praising Y/N and Steve agreeing and giggling like a little school girl on Y/N’s lap.
Once they’re all in the loft Y/N tucks Steve into bed after making him take some ibuprofen. “We’ll get you some coffee and toast in the morning, okay, bub?”
Steve nods and burrows into his bed. “Thanks, mom.”
Y/N smiles and kisses his forehead. “No problem, babe.”
“Wait, did he— did he ever text me back?” Steve goes for his phone, but not before Y/N can take it from him. “NOooOo.”
“Yeah, no more mistakes tonight. You can get this back in the morning when you’re sober.”
“But—”
“Uh uh, babygirl. No phone. Sleep.” She puts her hands on her hips to assert herself.
Too drunk and not having the strength or brain capacity to argue at this moment he gives up.
“Good boy.” Y/N pats his head making him smile. She makes sure he’s all comfortable then quietly exits. “The baby’s asleep!” She announces, throwing her hands up in victory.
“Woo.” Nancy and Eddie tiredly cheer.
Robin stays silent, her and Y/N making eye contact for a moment, then she storms off to their room. Y/N lets out a long tired sigh while cracking her back. “Yup. Gonna be paying for that one.”
“What’s wrong with her?” Nancy stares down their door.
“Eh.” Y/N shrugs. “I’ve got some anger issue stuff.”
Eddie leans forward onto his forearms, “That’s it?”
“Weeeell, there used to be cops involved, and mandatory community service and AA, and some EA bullshit— anyways it was a whole thing, but that’s in the past now.”
Eddie and Nancy look at each other with much confusion and some worry. “Well, I’ll be sleeping on the couch tonight.” Y/N plops down on the couch.
“Nonsense.” Eddie shakes his head and stands up. “A lady deserves a bed. Especially if that lady is as badass as you are.” He gives her a deep bow.
Y/N’s face feels hot, but she shakes her head of the flusters. “I’m not gonna take your bed, Eddie.”
Nancy sees the beginning of an argument she doesn’t need to be here for.
He shakes his head not taking ‘no’ for an answer. “C’mon, princess, let’s get you up and into bed.” He goes to reach for her but she shakes her head.
“If I’m gonna sleep in your bed you are too.”
Nancy refrains from retiring and immediately sits back down suddenly interested.
Eddie’s face goes red again. “Oh— uh— like— like both of us in the same… bed?”
Y/N slowly nods, not sure why he’s being so skittish. “I’m not gonna do anything untoward if that’s what you’re worried about.”
Not liking where this is going Eddie quickly shakes his head. “No, no no no no. I’m just— I’ve just— I’m completely fine with it. I just wanna make sure you’re fine with it.”
Y/N exchanges a glance with Nancy. “Nance, you gotta queen dontcha?”
Before Nancy can reply Eddie cuts in. “No, it’s fine!” He says all too quickly. “I’ll go make up the bed and everything— it’ll be all good.”
“Well.” Y/N stands up. “I’m gonna take a shower.” She heads off to the bathroom.
“Yeah!” Eddie yells after her. “You go take a shower, get all relaxed—” Nancy gives him a weirded out look— “You do you, girl!” He brings his voice down to a shouting whisper. “I don’t know what I’m saying anymore! The words just won’t stop coming out of my mouth!” He goes on to yell more at Y/N. “Get it nice and steamy, girl!”
Nancy throws a pillow at him to shut him up.
He barely catches it. “Thank you.”
Nancy nods.
“Shit! My room’s a shit sty! Where’s the Febreze?”
“Where it always is.” Nancy points to under the sink.
Eddie throws the pillow back on the couch and runs to the kitchen to rummage for the Febreze.
After Y/N’s shower she grabs her robe and gets “ready”. Quick shave, body butter, then perfume. Yes, she’s technically betraying her and Robin’s agreement but Eddie’s really cute, and he wouldn’t take this too seriously. Right?
She knocks on Eddie’s door only to be interrupted mid knock as he quickly opens the door. “Hiii—” Eddie’s voice trails off as he sees the girl in only her bathrobe. “Hi.” The second ‘hi’ is much more quiet.
Y/N gives a little wave. “Hi. By the way, do you by any chance have a double XL shirt and some boxer shorts or something I could fit into?”
Eddie stares for almost too long before he answers. “Uh, yeah, yeah. I’ve got— I’ve got some— some clothes.” He clears his throat, looking up then down, then back at Y/N’s legs.
Y/N gives him a moment to stop staring, and when he doesn’t she speaks up. “Can I come in?”
“Oh yeah!” He steps aside. “Yeah, come on in. I’ll get you those clothes.”
Y/N nods stepping inside. There’s an overwhelming smell of Febreze and even some incense has been lit. These are all good signs until Y/N gets to his bed. Oh. “I see you’ve built up a barricade.” She points to the lump in the middle of the bed that will keep them separated the entire night.
“Oh, yeah. I just… I thought to do that, ya know?” Eddie wanted to make sure that Y/N would be as comfortable as possible.
Y/N nods, almost a little insulted that Eddie would need a physical barrier to keep her from invading his space. “Ya, thanks.”
Eddie hands her an old Metallica shirt. “Here.”
It looks big enough for Y/N. “Yeah, thanks. And the boxers?”
“Oh yeah.” Eddie nods and looks through his drawers. “Cause ya need pants to sleep in, right?”
“Well, I need some underwear.”
Eddie freezes up at the mention of Y/N not currently wearing anything under her robe. Of course she wouldn’t be because she just got out of the shower. The shower where she had to get naked to get into. Then she would get all wet, and she’s all naked and— “Uh.. yeah… yeah… that’s… uh huh.”
Y/N’s toes dig into the carpet as she starts to get the feeling that maybe she’s making him uncomfortable.
‘Don’t think about her naked… and certainly don’t think about her naked and wet,’ Eddie thinks to himself. ‘You’re just gonna make her feel uncomfortable. And things are already tense. Why are things already tense? Why are you being so weird about this, Eddie‽’ “Found some.” He hands her some boxer briefs.
They’re a much larger size than Y/N would’ve thought that Eddie would ever own. “Woah, where’d these come from?”
Eddie shrugs. “Uh, well, I got them from Spencer’s and they were too big.”
“So, why didn’t you just return them?”
He shrugs again. “I uh… it’s just like uh a hassle and an entire process that you have to go through. And I don’t want to put retail workers through that, so I don’t… I just… I just keep the stuff.”
Y/N nods slowly, unconvinced. “Ok, yeah.”
The two stand in a tense and awkward silence before Y/N looks around the room. “So, uh, do you wanna watch or…?”
“Oh, right!” Eddie turns around and covers his eyes.
‘Wow, he even needs to cover his eyes’. Y/N shakes her head as she disrobes and changes. “You’re good,” she says flatly once she’s done. She gets into his bed, the overwhelming smell of Febreze only getting worse under the covers.
“Yah, ok.” Eddie can feel the tension only worsen like she’s somehow mad at him. He’s mostly hoping that he got rid of the fart smell and crumbs in his sheets. ‘I really should wash my sheets more often’. He gets under his sheets, thinking that maybe he might’ve used too much spray.
The two are back to back as they fall asleep, both their thoughts spiraling throughout the night.

So like I don’t know if I actually like have any followers let alone if anybody actually like looks at my posts but I’m going to write an Eddie Munson X reader and I’m going to post it. This is heavily self indulgent as is everything else I am going to write and post on this account. All the other fix that I’ve seen for him are either making reader a cheerleader, making reader a normal person that denies any part of their weirdness, not privy to any of the canon going-ons, or Steve’s exe, and honestly I think A. Steve has been though enough with his girlfriends leaving him for someone else, and B. Eddie has been through enough with cheerleaders, so like Thanos said I’ll do it myself. Also this might get pretty niche and kinda specific. Like I said this is self indulgent.

pairing: eddie munson x chubby female reader
summary: of course the boy i've known since 3rd grade, the one i've loved since 7th grade, would be the one to break my heart. i never thought he would be the one to fix it too...
warnings: bullying, fatphobia, use of the word pig towards reader once, falling off a bike, blood and cut knee from falling off said bike, self-doubt and sort of self-hate i guess, cursing, mentality that reader wouldn't be 'missed' (idk if thats a warning but just in case), no use of y/n, underage drinking, reader has an older brother for sake of the story (i gave him a really basic/common name), thoughts and flashbacks are in italics!! nickanames/pet names (shortcake, princess, honey, sweetheart), reader is at least a bit shorter than eddie, very poorly edited, talks of the demobats and upside down, again like very badly edited, lemme know if i missed anything, i'm sure i have!
word count: 9k+
notes: my first fic guys and it turned into this 9,000 word monster! wild! anyway, this might be trash i honestly don't know, i have no perception of it, pls let me know what you think!! also, this story is told in first person point of view so it uses 'i, me, myself' and all that, idk how i feel about it though tbh. uuuuh, enjoy!!

The sweltering midwestern heat was hitting Hawkins, Indiana early this year. School had only been out for a few weeks and it was already hot enough to have the city pool passing the max capacity damn near every day.
Luckily for me, I had been able to successfully avoid going every time my friends have asked me to join them. Until now.
“C’mon, it’s gonna be so much fun! Steve’s parents are gone again, like usual, so it’ll just be us and a few other friends!” Robin tries to convince me through the phone.
“Robin, I never believe ‘just us and a few friends’, because it is ne-”
“It’s never just a few friends, I know. But this time it really will be just a few people. Like, actually just a few people. After everything that happened during spring break and all that, Steve really just wants the main guys there. There’s not gonna be any crazy partying, we’re gonna swim and relax, that’s it.”
“I don’t know, I might be busy tomorrow,” I attempt an excuse.
“Then we’ll move it to when you’re free. We really want you there, you haven’t gone to any of our movie nights or other hangouts yet,” Robin points out while saying my name softly. “Is it something else? Is there someone you don’t want there?”
Robin isn’t entirely wrong, there is something else that’s keeping me from joining my friends. And technically it does have to do with someone, but not in the way she thinks. And that someone happens to be none other than the Eddie Munson.
I’ve known Eddie for many years. My older brother was one of his best friends while growing up having met in elementary school. James was in the grade above Eddie, and the one to introduce him to D&D, eventually passing on the title of Hellfire Club President to him as well. I was always in the background, hoping my brother would let me learn how to play just so I could impress him and his friends.
While they were occupying the basement, getting pizza and bottles of Coke every other Saturday for their stupid role-playing game, I was in my room reading trashy romance novels and out riding my bike to the library in hopes to seem cool when I came back late at night.
By the time I got to high school, it was James’ second to last year before he went off to college in Chicago on his big-shot football scholarship he managed to snag before he was even a senior. And yes, James was a Hellfire nerd and a star-athlete, so no one messed with their little club while he was there. Eddie was in his sophomore year, already antsy to graduate and move on to greater things.
I was just the outcast that didn’t even have a group. It didn’t matter that I was the captain of the football team’s little sister, I never made any friends because I never tried to.
Needless to say, yeah, Eddie and I had some history and maybe things got brought up when Vecna was trying to take over the world that might have been better left untouched. And maybe the idea of seeing him again brings butterflies to my stomach while also making my gut sink.
“No, it's not that. I just…I guess I just haven’t been feeling it since…since yanno,” I say, half heartedly.
Robin voices her understanding and tells me to just call back when I make a decision on if I would go or not. I promise her I will and hang up the phone. It’s not like I didn’t want to see them, because truly I did but it also wasn’t a complete lie when I told her I hadn’t been feeling quite right since the Venca situation.
It was a really traumatic and horrible experience for everyone involved, and really astonishing that everyone made it out alive.
‘Maybe I should just go…but what if it’s horrible? I know none of my lovely friends would ever say anything to me about it, but I just can’t stand the thought of them seeing me in a swimsuit, especially Eddie.’ I shake my head at the thought. ‘What a stupid thing to think, god, we all nearly died and I’m worried about my stomach in a swimsuit, how shallow is that? I guess some things just never change, no matter the life threatening situation…’
I go about my nighttime routine, washing my face and making sure no lights have been left on around the house. I say goodnight to my mother and fall right asleep. Or, I try to at least.
But my mind keeps me up for much longer than I would have hoped.
‘It would be a good time, though. Have a couple of beers, spend the night in one of Steve’s nice guest bedrooms. I wouldn’t even have to swim, I could just say I’m on my period or something. Ugh, but Robin knows that I always swam even on my period when we were younger. I’ll just wear a suit under my clothes and pretend the water is too cold even though it’s the peak of summer? Yeah, that should work. I can’t imagine anyone will care that much anyway if I’m not in the pool with them. I really do miss my friends.’
~
The next morning I call Robin and tell her I’ll be there tonight. She squeals in delight and tells me how happy she’ll be to see me.
Now it was just time to pick out an outfit, should be simple enough, right?
Well, after leaving it to the last second and now only having about 15 minutes to get to Steve’s when it’s already a five minute drive, having half of my closet strewn about my room doesn’t seem like a very good place to be at.
I finally sigh and opt for a swim suit from the summer before that I never wore, a green one piece with a wrapped sort of style for the top portion, and black cut off shorts and an old t-shirt that fits comfortably loose over it.
I grab my keys and kiss my mother on the forehead, reminding her I wouldn’t be back till the next morning.
Several shouts of my name reach my ears once I reach Steve’s backyard, it does bring a small smile to my face knowing I’ve been missed just as much as I’ve missed them.
“You’re actually here, I’m so happy to see you!” Nancy says pulling me in for a hug, Robin joining on top, squishing us all together.
“Yeah, yeah, I know it’s been a while. I’m sorry.”
“No, you don’t have to be sorry, it’s been a really hard year,” Nancy says sincerely.
Steve comes up for a hug next, squishing me for dear life, I could feel him about to try to lift me up and spin me around so I pull away rather abruptly.
“Alright, alright, it’s nice to see you, too, Steve.”
He answers with a kiss to the cheek and makes me promise that I’ll come to the next hangout and every one after that. I see Jonathan and he waves with a small awkward smile.
Finally my eyes meet Eddie’s.
~
“James! James! C’mon, come outside and play with me!” It was nearing the end of summer before James would go back to school for his 8th grade year and I would be going into 6th grade.
“Not right now, can’t you see that I’m busy? I’m too old to play outside anyway,” my brother rolls his eyes.
I hop down the stairs so I can see the basement fully now. Spotting all of my brother's friends huddled around our dinky old card table while he has books and notepads sprawled on his end.
“Well, can I at least play your game with you guys? I’m sure I can learn it fast!” I beam, faking confidence in hopes to sway them.
“No offense, shortcake, but it’s probably too confusing for you. Besides, we’re right in the middle of a campaign, it would be too hard to add in another character out of the blue right now,” Eddie says with a chuckle, like the idea that I could play is too amusing to even consider.
Naturally, I take full offense.
“Fine! You’re all so annoying, I didn’t even want to play with you anyway. Especially not with someone who has a buzzcut!” I stick my tongue out at them and run away, but not before I can hear them laughing.
Sitting alone in my room I know it was childish of me, especially for my age. James was probably right, he was too old to be outside playing tag with his sister. I was too old to be throwing a tantrum like this over some friends wanting to spend time with each other without one’s little sister hanging around.
~
“Hey, Munson.”
Eddie nods his head in greeting and goes back to talking with Jonathan. Well, that’s honestly about as much interaction as I expected to get from him tonight.
“Alright, let’s get this party started!” Robin exclaims, dragging you toward the cooler filled with ice and drinks, I grab a Sprite to start with.
2 hours later and my Sprite is still mostly untouched and it’s now gone lukewarm. The others are in the pool splashing and playing chicken, I sit on the side with my feet dangling into the shallow end, watching as they fool around and laugh. Giggles and quiet laughs leave my lips on occasion with them.
“You should get in, the water’s really nice!” Nancy says.
“Yeah! Strip for us and get in here,” Robin adds, making everyone laugh.
“You guys just want to get me out of my clothes, don’t you?” I play it off, shaking my head slightly. Giggles erupt again. I excuse myself to the bathroom after pulling my legs out of the pool.
Closing and locking the door behind me I look at myself in the mirror.
‘I should just get in the pool, shouldn’t I? I do feel like I’m missing out on what could be a lot of fun. And it wouldn’t hurt to wash all this sweat off of me. I could just keep my shirt on, I have an extra change of clothes as backup anyway.’
I finish my business and leave the bathroom.
After turning the corner to go back to the pool I run straight into something firm, nearly being toppled over before hands are at my forearms to keep me from doing so. Seeing dark curls fanning across this “something’s” shoulders and several patches of dark ink on its bare skin, I immediately know I have just run head first into Eddie. Great.
“Sorry, I wasn’t looking where I was going,” I murmur, keeping my eyes pointed down.
“It’s alright, shortcake. No harm done right?” he says, adjusting his head to try to catch my eyes.
I nod my head and pull away from his hands that still rest gently on my arms.
“Hey, hey, what’s up? You’re so quiet tonight, is everything okay?”
I nod again and pull away harder, rushing out the door to get back to the pool, ignoring his call of my name and a request to “just hold on a second.”
Pulling my shorts off quickly, I step up to the pool and begin to wade into the water before Robin stops me.
“Your shirt! You don’t want the chlorine to ruin it!”
My heart thumps, thinking of how I can handle this. My mouth opens to say something but before I can, Robin cuts me off.
“Just take it off, no one’s gonna make fun of you for being in your swimsuit and if they do I’ll beat them up for you and then we’ll all collectively agree to throw them out of the group. And don’t try to tell me that’s not what it is, I can see it all over your face. You’re allowed to have fun and go swimming, I don’t like to see you excluding yourself, no matter the reason,” she says.
Of course she would see right through any lie I could throw her way. That’s just how Robin is. No matter how clumsy she can be, she really is observant. Not only that, but she’s right. Nobody cares and if they do, that’s their problem.
I rip off my shirt and dive into the pool trying to minimize the time in which people could see me without it. Immediately finding Steve’s legs I yank his ankles so he falls backwards into the water with an unnecessarily loud screech.
It makes the rest of us laugh loudly until Steve comes back up for air with a thirst for vengeance. He chases me around the pool, not for long considering he’s such a strong swimmer and I’m really not trying very hard to get away from him, and catches me easily. His arms wrap around my waist and I cringe as his hands nudge my stomach, scolding myself for the action right after. Steve doesn’t care about my stomach, if he did, he wouldn’t be my friend.
“That really wasn’t very nice,” Steve says and starts lifting me out of the water.
“Steve, hey. Steve! Steve, no, I’m too heavy! Stevie, no! Bad Stevie! Bad!”
I’m thrown in the air as far as he can get me and I splash back down.
I come up spluttering for breath, “Oh, you are so dead, Harrington!”
All at once the rest of us are splashing and dunking him over and over, until he pleads mercy. Shrieks and squeals of glee and what might be considered laughter fill the air as everyone gets their turn being thrown into the water.
Eddie comes back out from the house and cannonballs in the middle of our ‘hate on Steve’ fest.
Eventually I end up back on the side of the pool in my shirt with just my feet in, this time so I can enjoy a fresh soda and mellow out a little, not to make myself smaller. Nancy and Jonathan have called it a night already, leaving Steve, Eddie, and Robin in or by the pool with me.
“I never noticed this scar? Where did you get it?” Robin points to my knee.
~
The nice old librarian put a hand on my shoulder gently to get my attention, telling me the library would be closing soon and it was best I head home, I hadn’t realized how late it already was. I pack everything together as fast as I can, quickly saying goodnight and unlocking my bike, trying my hardest to race home before the sun sets.
The wheels of my rickety bicycle pump faster and faster and in my haste I bump over a high curb without realizing, flying off and onto the pavement.
Tears spring to my eyes as air is sucked in through my teeth. I take a look at my knee and see a small dribble of blood seeping down it, my hands have little scrapes all over, spotted with little beads of red.
Not the worst I could have gotten from a bike incident, but bad enough to keep me from being able to ride the rest of the way home. It’s not far, but so much for getting back before the street lights turn on.
About 15 minutes later I make it into our backyard, dropping the two wheeled contraption from hell into the grass and stumbling through the door, all while sniffling back sobs.
“Oh hey, shortcake! James was starting to get worried about you, you really shouldn’t walk alone at night yanno? Next time ju-” Eddie cuts himself off after seeing the state I’m in. Of course he had to be the one to see me like this. Anyone else could have been sent on snack duty tonight, but it just had to be him.
“Oh my god, what happened?” He walks up to me.
I shrug my shoulders and look away. I catch a glimpse of how bad my knees and hands have gotten on the walk home. Blood drips down both knees, my left knee looking significantly worse than the right. Dirt and pebbles cover my palms along with streaks of crimson.
“Don’t do that, sweetheart. Tell me what happened? Please?”
I still don’t say anything, fresh, hot tears welling up and already spilling out. I refuse to let stupid Eddie Munson see me like this, all it would be is more leverage to make fun of me with.
He pulls my hand gently until I’m sitting down. Eddie appears in front of me with a first aid kit a few seconds later, carefully cleaning the gashes on my knees and scrapes on my hands with alcohol wipes.
“Did,” he lets out a shuddering breath, “Did someone hurt you?”
“No, god no Eddie, I just-, god this is so embarrassing, I just fell off of my bike is all,” I mutter, not really wanting him to hear the words as they come out.
“S’ not embarrassing, stuff like that happens. I just wish you would have told me, here I was thinking the boys and I were going to have to band together to cause hell for our favorite little goblin,” he says.
“You’re just trying to make me feel better, you guys wouldn’t really do that, I guess James might. Most of you guys don’t even really like me that much anyway, you don’t have to lie,” I whisper.
“That’s not true! Of course we would stick up for you!” he says like he’s shocked that I would think the opposite.
I just shrug my shoulders again and wipe my eyes, still avoiding looking him in the face.
“Here, let me help you up to your room. That can’t feel good to walk on,” he pulls me up from the chair and goes to lift me into his arms. I jump out of his reach before he can.
“It’s okay, I got it. Just- you better get back downstairs before they start worrying. I’ll take care of myself.”
“What? No, you’re basically limping just standing here, shortcake, let me carry you, it’ll only take a minute?” He phrases it like a question. Asking but also sort of demanding.
The idea is actually really nice, and I want to say yes to it. It would be like when the prince finally gets the princess in all those books I’ve read. Eddie could sweep me off of my feet and whisk me away.
But I know better, I know that he wouldn’t be able to lift me. Even if he could he wouldn’t so much as glance at me, again, I’m just his friend's little sister. Here only because this is where she lives.
“No thank you, I’m okay. Go ahead and go back to your game, I’m sure they miss you already. Nobody would even notice if I were gone, but they’ll practically riot without you,” I try to cover how deeply I believe those words with a laugh as I wobble away and halfway up the stairs before he can stop me.
~
“Um, I guess I don’t really remember. It’s probably just one of those super old scars you forget are even there,” I say, even though I recall the night I got it vividly.
Eddie’s eyes meet mine from the other side of the pool and they look almost…hurt at the possibility that I might not remember that day. Well, he didn’t get to feel hurt about it. He made it clear that he doesn’t care how I feel when we were in the upside down.
“Hmmm, yeah, I have, like, tons of those actually,” Robin says, “This one is from my cat, Steven, and this one-”
“You have a cat named Steven?” I cut her off. She gives me a look that says ‘duh’.
“But what about Steve? Like human Steve? Was this before or after you became friends? And how has this never come up before?” I practically shriek.
“Believe me, it has come up before. And yes, before she tells you otherwise, it was after we became friends,” Steve says, settling down beside me while throwing his arm around my shoulders.
“That is not true! I found him outside the mall before we became friends! We may have been working together at that point, but we were not friends yet!” Robin shouts.
“We were friends, she’s just embarrassed that she named her cat after me,” Steve whispers in my ear, making me giggle like a schoolgirl.
Even though I’ve never seen Steve romantically, he still had the ability to reduce me to feet kicking and hair twirling.
“What’s wrong with you, Munson?” Steve asks, noticing the scowl covering his face that usually carries a bright smile.
Eddie shakes his head, “Nothing man, just thinking about how I don’t have a beer in my hand right now.”
~
A call of my name breaks my gaze away from the mirror.
“You almost ready? It’s time to go!” James yells, entering my room. “Hey! You look great! It almost feels like I’m sending you off to prom already,” he says wiping fake tears from his cheeks.
I shove him in the chest and readjust my hair and the straps to my dress for what feels like the millionth time. It was a rather simple looking thing considering I had to sew it myself since the only dresses even near my size were too far out of theme for the 8th grade Winter Snowball or they were simply just ugly.
Light blue and white fabric lays delicately across my shoulders and down to my knees, matched with white slip on shoes and silver snowflake jewelry.
“You look really nice, seriously. I know how nervous you are, but it’s gonna be okay, I promise,” my brother assures me, slapping my shoulder much harder than necessary to push me towards the door, “Now it’s time to get your butt moving, let’s go!”
When we arrive at the dance I immediately catch eyes with Robin and speed walk to her. James goes wherever he's needed for volunteering.
After about 45 minutes the first slow song of the night comes on as I sit contently by myself at the far end of the bleachers. I wasn’t sad to not be dancing with anyone, I was honestly sort of relieved that I hadn’t had to dance all night. But watching all the couples on the dance floor does make my heart ache just a little.
“I haven’t seen you dance all night, what’s that about?”
“Why are you here?”
“Ouch, shortcake, I don’t even get a hello? And what, I can’t come volunteer with your brother?” Eddie says, fake hurt painting his face.
“It just doesn’t seem like you, I guess.”
He sits down next to me leaving at least enough room for another person to sit between us. He hands me an unopened juice box.
“Seriously though, why aren’t you out there? You don’t have someone you wanna get cozied up with on the dancefloor?” He wiggles his eyebrows at me in his typical annoying Eddie way.
I roll my eyes, as my stomach twists with shame. He’s mocking me, isn’t he?
“Nope. I’m okay with it though. Honestly I was perfectly happy just sitting here. Until you showed up that is,” I say with a shrug.
“Oh really? Well, gosh, who made you such a sour fart?” he laughs as I push him in the arm.
“Alright, c’mon then. Pity party is over, let's go do this,” Eddie holds out his hand and raises a brow when all I do is look at it confused. “Let’s go dance, shortcake, you should at least once before it’s over.”
“Um- I-” I’m at a loss for words. There’s no way he’s being anything but friendly but my stupid heart skips too many beats to count.
“Here, I need to go check on James and see how the other volunteers are doing. While I take care of that, I want you to sit here and decide if you want to dance with me or not. Of course, I won’t make you do anything you don’t wanna, but if you’re up for it, I’m here,” he says, bouncing back to the drinks and snacks table. I smile giddily at his back and stay sitting.
By the time the last song of the night played I was still in the exact same spot I had been for nearly 2 hours, waiting for Eddie to come back.
Immediately after he left, I knew I wanted to dance with him. Of course I would. I’ve known him since I was in 4th grade and have had a crush on him for a year now. All I had to do was wait a few minutes and I would get to live out a fairytale dream. Dancing across the room in a flowey dress with the guy I liked. Of course it would be strictly platonic on his end but it could mean something more to me silently.
So there I sat, with my empty juice box, tapping my foot in excitement. The first slow song ended and there was no sign of Eddie, but I was sure he just caught up with volunteer work. After the next 3 songs played I began to doubt myself slightly.
‘Maybe he hadn’t actually wanted to dance like it had seemed. But he looked really sincere when asking me. Yeah. And even if Eddie is just a regular teenage boy, and he can definitely be a jerk sometimes, he’s much sweeter and kinder than most. He wouldn’t leave me hanging like that. He’ll be back any minute now, I’m sure.’
By the time 11 more songs had played, I knew he wasn’t coming back. Tears were smearing my mascara while I sat as still as possible on the bleachers, not wanting to draw any attention to myself.
Of course he wasn’t being serious. He just wanted to tease me like usual, the only difference was this time it went too far. This time he was cruel about it. He could have just told me he didn’t mean it. Instead he strung me along and had me sitting here like a lovesick puppy for an hour straight.
Who was I kidding? Eddie couldn’t be interested in me. He was my brother's best friend and had seen me grow up. I was just his friend’s chubby little sister. Wearing a dress that doesn’t sparkle and shine like all the others’, sitting alone and pouting like a baby.
He probably thought I would crush his feet if I accidentally stepped on them.
After persevering through another hour of horror, James finds me in my corner ready to head home.
“All ready to go?” he asks jovially like he always seems to be.
“Yes.”
James picks up on my mood right away, but I’m already halfway to the car before he can say anything.
“Okay, uh, I gotta clean up some stuff still but here,” he throws me his car keys when I turn back around, “Go get the car started yeah?”
I nod and head out to the car when I see Eddie jogging up to the doors after me. My steps speed up hoping for all hell to avoid him. He calls my name but I don’t look back or slow down, in fact, the only thing it succeeds in doing is making me walk faster.
My hands shake as I try to slip the key into the driver’s side door handle. Warm hands settle on my wrists.
“Holy shit, I am so sorry, shortcake. I was so excited to dance with you, I really was, I just got caught up in helping another volunteer with something and lost track of time. I didn’t mean to forget you there all alone, I swear on everything. I know how excited you were for tonight and I am so sorry. I didn’t realize how long I had been gone until everyone started leaving and then I saw you get up and realized what I’d done, please forgive me,” he rambles off almost too quickly to understand.
I expect tears but all I get is a deep rooted feeling of shame and anger. Ashamed by the fact that I thought he would come back and angry at myself for sitting there hopelessly when I could’ve danced with Robin at least.
“Please, look at me. Please tell me you at least got to dance with someone else, right? You had a good time? Please tell me you at least had fun,” he pleads.
A scoff escapes me as I whirl on him.
“No, I didn’t dance with someone else, I sat there and I waited for you. I waited for you the whole time, and I guess that was my first mistake wasn’t it, huh? I believed you. I really thought you meant what you said to me.”
I rip my arms out of hold.
“You know what’s funny, too? I was actually having a really good time before you showed up. I told you as much earlier, even. I was perfectly happy to sit by myself, considering that’s how I spend most of my time anyway. I was really enjoying just watching the lights and the twirl of dresses, alone. I was overjoyed to just sit and watch Robin dance with her friends. And you had to come and- and lie to me! You made me feel special for fuck’s sake.”
His eyes flash with guilt and he must have finally realized how much he hurt me.
“I get that I’m not the prettiest and skinniest girl and I know that most of those kids don’t even know my name, but you do! You know me. You know me and you still forgot about me,” I pause and take a deep breath, “Do you remember what I said that night when I fell off my bike?”
Eddie shakes his head.
“Nobody would even notice if I were gone. Nobody, not even you, I guess. You forgot about me not even 5 minutes after making me feel like the most special girl in that whole damn room. And that was really mean, Eddie. I hope you, at least, have a good rest of your night,” I step into the car and start the engine.
~
Steve plops down next to me holding 4 cans of beer, one for each of us.
“I’m really happy I came tonight, thank you, for inviting me and not forgetting about me after I kinda disappeared,” I say quietly.
Steve pats my back while Robin says something along the lines of ‘duh, of course we would never forget about you.’
Eddie stays silent, watching me closely.
I put my drink on the ground beside me and lay on my back, pulling my shirt down to make sure it covers me still. I start to count the stars, just to keep my brain occupied. My eyes drift shut, my mind choosing to visit yet another memory tonight.
~
It was James’ graduation party. All we had were a couple tables set up with snacks in the backyard and a bonfire, nothing too fancy. I made a simple ‘Happy Graduation!’ banner to hang across the gate for everyone to see, too.
I’m wearing a plain white sundress and converse, I knew I would be running back and forth from the backyard and the kitchen too much for heels to be sensible. Making sure there’s enough drinks and food and ice for everyone was my job tonight. The sun is still up, melting the ice and warming every drink out here.
James calls my name softly, “You can quit running around and tending to every little need. Come hang out with everyone for a little bit. Please?”
I set down the metal tub where drinks are kept and walk over to sit around the fire with him and his usual friends. New faces have popped up over the years, but many stayed the same. Danny Williams, a junior who may or may not have been my first kiss when we happened to both show up at the same party and ended up playing spin the bottle together, Jason Carver, a freshman who appeared promising on the football team before switching to basketball instead, Michael Brown, a senior who’s been in the little Hellfire Group since the beginning. There are several others I don’t recognize and even more that I do.
Of course, Eddie is there too. I just haven’t really…acknowledged him in…in a really long time.
I haven’t necessarily been giving him the silent treatment, but I stopped entertaining the conversations he always seemed to start with me.
Danny greets me with a smile as he sits down next to me. He even pulls his lawn chair a little closer towards mine, grinning slightly while doing so.
“What can I do for you Danny?” I say.
“Oh nothing. I just wanted to come sit by you, is all.” Huh. That…that sort of stumps me.
I didn’t think Danny would even recognize me at the party, and I’m honestly even more surprised that he wanted to talk to me after kissing me. We make small conversation, butting into the rest of the group's discussion once in a while to add an opinion.
Night had fallen and marshmallows and graham crackers were brought out for s'mores, as well as a couple of 12 packs of beer that someone had brought with them.
I knew James had gone to several parties to celebrate winning a football game where there had been alcohol, or even just little get-togethers where it was provided. I guess now that it was only soon-to-be seniors and high school graduates, minus myself, left at the party it was time for that portion of the night to begin.
I stand up to go in and let the others have their fun.
“Where’re you going?” Danny asks, grabbing my hand lightly, looking up with wide puppy dog eyes. His eyes are a pretty green color. Brown eyes have always been my favorite, though.
“Oh, I was just going to head in and call it a night. That way you all could have your fun without worrying about me dragging you down.”
My comment makes his brows furrow, his mouth opens to say something, but he’s cut off.
“You can stay out here, you know. No one minds having you here and I’m sure dear old James doesn’t care if you partake in a little drink, do you?” Eddie states. When did he get so close to us?
“Even if I did care she gets to do what she wants, man. As long as you're safe about it, go for it,” James says, patting my back and taking one for himself.
I’ve never drank before, but what the hell? James was leaving in just a few weeks now and this might be my only chance to try it. It’s certainly one of my last chances to hang out with everyone like this, at least for a while.
After just 2 cans my tongue had already loosened significantly. Danny and I had been talking and giggling the whole time until he had gotten up to go home since his designated driver was ready to leave.
“So, you and Danny seem pretty close suddenly?” Eddie phrases it like a question, wanting more information on the subject.
Usually I would just hum in what could be taken as agreement or disinterest but my mind was running a little slower than normal.
“Yeah, he and I kinda ran into each other at a party that I kinda crashed with Robin and we ended up, like, kissing and stuff,” I giggled. “But shhhh, don’t tell anyone else.”
Eddie’s eyes widened, but that could have been a trick of the light.
“What, uh, what do you mean by ‘and stuff’?”
“Oh nothing. We just had one teensy tiny kiss because we were playing spin the bottle,” I say, not really thinking about it.
Now I really know my brain is playing tricks on me because for a second I think Eddie looks pleased with this new knowledge that it didn’t really mean anything.
“I feel like we haven’t really talked in a long time. What’s, uh, what’s been up, lately?”
The question itself is awkward, but the way he struggled through it made it even more awkward.
“I’ve been regular old me, Eddie. Nothing new or exciting. Although I did finish a book last night that really threw me through a loop. Oh! Actually there is something exciting! Do you wanna hear it?”
He smiles, “Of course I do, shortcake.”
“Well,” I take another sip of what is now my third beer, “William Gillar and Stacy Johnson have finally graduated!” I let out a squeal.
Eddie just looks at me confused.
“Do you have any idea what this means, Eds? I am finally free of those two asshats for the rest of my high school experience! Isn’t that amazing! I mean, it was easier to ignore this year than last year, but god I am so thrilled! No more mean notes from them calling me a pig in my locker and book bag, I can even finally find a table to sit at for lunch instead of hiding in Mr. Steerwell’s class,” I sigh happily.
“Do you wanna know what else they did? This is so silly! They used to catch me on my walk home from school and steal my library books. How stupid is that? Why would you steal someone’s library books, right? They would run around with it so I would chase after them and then laugh at how my body would jiggle. How funny, right? I am so happy they’re gone, Eds, you have no idea.”
Eddie has his mouth halfway open, anger flaring in his eyes. But that couldn’t be right, why would he care about a couple of high school bullies.
“No, that’s not funny or silly. That’s been going on this whole time? And you didn’t tell anyone? God, why wouldn’t you tell someone, sweetheart? That’s horrible,” he says.
“Meh, it’s just normal high school bully stuff.” I wave my hand in dismissal.
“No, it’s not. Bullying shouldn’t even be considered normal anyway, but what they did to you? That goes far beyond normal, shortcake. I wish you would have said something. You know James and I would’ve taken care of them for you, right?”
“Well, it doesn’t really matter now, does it. It’s too late,” I dismiss him and his misplaced worry. Honestly, it was nothing I couldn’t handle. He must have sensed how much I didn’t want to talk about it anymore because he dropped it.
The night moves quickly after that, people say their goodbyes as James takes over clean up duty, considering I can barely stand up without nearly falling asleep.
“Eddie, will you take her in and make sure she gets into bed okay?” James asks.
That’s how I find myself being semi-dragged up the stairs to my bedroom and thrown on the mattress like a sack of potatoes. I don’t think Eddie was half as rough as my brain made it seem, to be honest.
“Eds?” I whisper looking down at Eddie who’s kneeling by feet, gently taking my shoes off.
“Yeah?”
A couple beats of silence pass where I try to figure out how to word what I’m thinking.
“I forgive you.” His movements stop. “I hope you know that. It’s probably such a silly little thing to even remember but I forgive you for forgetting to dance with me. I probably would have forgotten me, too. And…and I am sorry. I really am, for pushing you away so hard after. It was really stupid of me and I wish I hadn’t. Robin is a good friend, but you’re kind of the closest thing I’ve ever had to a best friend, I think. And I threw that all away over hurt feelings. Puberty, am I right?” I giggle.
“S’ not silly to remember that. And you weren’t being stupid, sweetheart. You were hurt, you were protecting yourself and I don’t blame you for that. I should never have even walked away from you that night, but I did. And I don’t deserve your forgiveness for it,” Eddie says.
More words mumble out of his mouth but none of it registers. Soon the noise stops and I feel Eddie’s warm hands pull my shoes all the way off, pushing my legs onto the bed and turning me to lay comfortably on my stomach.
He must remember that’s my favorite way to sleep.
My mind must really hate me because I swear, right before I fall asleep, I feel lips pressing gently to my forehead while a guitar calloused hand pushes hair away from my eyes.
Of course, that didn’t actually happen because that’s not something Eddie would do. Right? Yeah, he wouldn’t…
~
A timid shake to my shoulder pulls me from my dozing.
“Hey, shortcake, it’s time for you to go in.”
There’s only one person who’s ever called me by that nickname.
“Hm, it’s been a while since you’ve called me that…Eds.”
I don’t know what made me decide to use his nickname. It never seemed right to use it after we drifted so far apart when James left.
Eddie helps pull me to my feet.
‘Hmmm, he’s always been a lot stronger than he looks. I barely even lifted myself up for him.’
“Oh, now you wanna be all friendly again? Using a nickname and everything? What’s this all about, huh?” Eddie says, steadying me with his calloused hands when my legs wobble.
My brows furrow, “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Earlier, when we were in the house. You practically ran away from me. I mean, it’s just that we…we haven’t seen each other since we went into the upside down. I thought maybe,” he lets out a long breath. “Maybe things had changed or something, I guess. I was hoping we could talk about it after we all got out but you’ve been avoiding everyone.”
“And why is that? Why do you think things would have changed Eddie?”
~
“No! No, no, no! Edward Munson, if you cut that rope, so help me god!”
“You know I always love when you use my full name.”
And the bastard cuts the rope.
The next thing I know, he’s out of the trailer doing something entirely too heroic and the exact amount of stupid he always is.
Before I can think I shove Dustin out of the trailer, the one not in the upside down, and send him to go help Lucas.
“No! We need to help him! Can’t you see that he needs help!”
“I know Dustin, I know. That’s why I’m staying here. But I need you to go find Lucas and Erica and check on Max. There are others who still need our help, Henderson. Please, listen to me and go help them.”
I turn back into the trailer before he can disagree again, locking the door to make sure he doesn’t follow. Without second guessing, I jump through the portal, landing somewhat safely on my side.
I manage to find a bike and just a few minutes later I’m riding as fast as I can towards the bat tornado that Eddie stands in the middle of.
“Eddie you dumb jerk, you better not be getting yourself killed!” I scream at the top of my lungs. His eyes catch mine as a look of horror crosses his face.
“Why the hell did you follow me? I specifically told you not to!”
“Yeah, well I specifically told you not to cut the rope!”
We fight off the bats as best we can until they all suddenly drop to the ground.
Eddie and I stand breathing hard, our brains trying to catch up with all of what just happened. Eddie turns to me, a grin beginning to form.
I punch him as hard as I can in the chest. And then I do it again, and then again and again, until I’m pounding my fists against his chest over and over again.
“What the hell?! Honey, stop, you’re gonna hurt yourself!”
I choke on hiccupping sobs as hot tears overflow past my lashes.
“Don’t you ever do something like that again! Ever!”
Eddie grabs my wrists to keep me from hitting him anymore. I keep trying until I realize his hold on me is too strong.
“Princess, you gotta stop. I don’t want to see you hurt anymore, please stop.”
He wraps his arms around me, stroking the back of my hair, pressing soft kisses to my forehead.
“It’s okay, sweetheart, it’s okay. We’re okay, I promise.”
“That was not okay, Eddie. Not okay!” I tell him looking up into his eyes.
“I’m sorry, I really am. But look, we did it!”
He looks down at me thoughtfully. His eyes flit down to my lips. My breath catches.
He couldn’t possibly be…
His lips are on mine. And Eddie Munson is kissing me.
Both of his hands are on the side of my face, rubbing his thumbs softly across the apples of my chubby cheeks.
I pull away, “What do you think you’re doing?”
“Kissing my shortcake,” he says with a smirk while I grimace at the phrase. He laughs at the face I make and kisses me again.
I kiss back harder this time, getting lost in all things Eddie. The way his hair feels soft even despite being so dirty. His lips are somehow minty. He smells like smoke and old books.
My heart soars. This has to be proof, then. Eddie must think of me the way I think of him. I can’t imagine ever kissing someone with this much passion if it didn’t mean something more. I smile into the kiss.
Footsteps sound behind where we stand and Eddie pushes me off of him, placing several feet between us. I look at him confused and hurt by his sudden change in behavior. He refuses to meet my eyes. He even wipes the back of his hand across his mouth, looking straight ahead at Steve, Robin and Nancy appearing in front of us.
Oh.
He’s too embarrassed to let his new friends see him with the big girl? Is that what it is? Does he suddenly regret kissing me? Was it just a heat of the moment type of deal, then? I was the closest human thing, so he settled on me for a little ‘yay the world didn’t end’ kiss?
In my whole life, I don’t think anything has hurt as much as that did.
~
An uncomfortable amount of silence fills the air..
“Things got weird after James left, but you know that. We both felt it, even though we tried to ignore it. Jason started to act like he ran the damn school even though we were friends at one point. I never saw you because we were never at your house anymore. Then I got held back and we basically had every class together. Then I got held back again and you graduated. I missed you. I really, really missed you,” he says the last part quietly. Almost like he was afraid for me to hear it. I hold back a scoff.
“I missed you so much, it’s ridiculous. I just wanted my shortcake back. My sweetheart, my princess, my honey,” he laughs to himself, I stay quiet. “God, I was such a jerk to you growing up. And not because ‘I had a crush on you’ because that’s bullshit, guys shouldn’t be allowed to be mean to girls with the excuse of it being ‘romantic’. I wish I had treated you better, been a little friendlier. I never realized how much you meant to me until your brother’s graduation.”
He takes his eyes away from his feet to glance at me.
“Do you remember that night? It was your first time drinking and you got so sleepy I had to tuck you into bed. You had told me about you and Danny at that party and it made me jealous. I’d never really felt jealous before, certainly not like that at least. It made me realize how deep my feelings for you went.”
I remain silent, partly because I didn’t want to interrupt him when this is the most honest and vulnerable he’s ever been, out of respect, and partly because I was utterly confused and angered by what he was saying and claiming.
“You forgave me for leaving you alone at the dance, even though I never deserved to be forgiven for that. I didn’t even know how badly you were being bullied at school until you told me, that’s not a person who deserves to be forgiven.”
A soft laugh and a pause. “I guess what I’m saying is…is I wish things had, in fact, changed after Vecna. And I know, that’s probably not something you want to hear because I know it’s not the same for you but I figure if you’re not gonna talk to me anyway, I may as well tell you, right?”
He takes a step towards the house but I don’t let him get far.
“What do you mean it’s ‘not the same for me’?”
“Well obviously you’ve been ignoring me since I kissed you so, clearly it wasn’t something you wanted.” He shrugs his shoulders. “And that’s okay. I’m not saying you have to be with me or anything, I’m just saying…I don’t know what I’m saying.”
“I’ve been ignoring you?” I ask, dumbfounded by his idiocy.
“Well, yeah. You haven’t even been answering the walkie.”
“And you think that was because I didn’t want to kiss you? Not because, oh, I don’t know, maybe the fact that the second Nance and the others showed up you shoved me away from you? It couldn’t have been because it was obvious you couldn’t stand the thought of being seen with me?”
Eddie’s face drains of color.
“I can’t help but see now that this is all you think I deserve. A quick kiss when no one can see, right? A little making out before someone can figure who you’re with, huh?”
“No! That is not at all what that was! I can’t believe you would think that. I pushed you away so you wouldn’t be seen with me!” he shouts, cutting me off.
“What?”
“The whole town wanted me for murder! Murder! They thought I was running a cult that killed my friend as a sacrifice! My friend! I didn’t want you to be tied to that anymore than you already were, so I pushed you off before the others could see. If someone, somehow went yapping about a girlfriend of mine and things went sideways when we got out of the upside down, you might have gone down with me and I couldn’t let that happen. I just couldn’t. I was going to tell you all of this as soon as I could but you never let me get the chance, and I see why now. I am so sorry it looked like I was embarrassed to be with you, but that will never be the case with me.”
He takes my face in his hands and looks me directly in the eyes.
“You are single-handedly the most beautiful person I have ever met. Inside and out. You have always cared for me and the old Hellfire Club. Don’t think I didn’t know it was you sending cookies on our campaign nights, even after graduating. I remember when I showed up at your house looking for James because some older kids had taken my lunch money in middle school, little you went after them yourself and did one helluva job doing it. You sat me down and cleaned me up. Gave me peas to put on my forehead.”
It was like a forgotten memory was just pulled up by his words, I did remember that.
“I could never be embarrassed by you, ever. I don’t care what people think. I…I love you. And I love your hair, and I love your eyes, and I love your laugh, and I love your stomach and your thighs, and I love your mind. I love you and I hope you can see it. I hope…I hope you can see me,” he finishes off in a very quiet whisper, tilting his head down and away from my eyes.
I place my hands over his that still hold my face.
“I have always seen you, Eddie Munson. Always.”
His head jolts up to look me in the eyes once more.
“God, Eddie, I’m so sorry. I know you’re not a horrible person, I should have known, I’m so sorry. God, you were literally being hunted for murder and I was crying about you being embarrassed by me? I’m so fucking sorry.”
I shake my head and take a deep breath.
“I love you, I have for so long. I love the way you smile, I love the way you’re not afraid to take up space, I love the way you’re there for Dustin, the way you were there for me countless times. I love you and your horrible music.”
“Hey, now. Watch it.”
I laugh, “I love you and I see you and I’m so sorry.”
“It’s okay, it’s okay. You’re forgiven, I promise. You didn’t even really need to apologize in the first place.”
“Yes, I did. Because none of that was fair to you.”
“And none of that was fair to you, shortcake. It’s okay.”
I look at his lips, and that’s all the cue Eddie needs to kiss me. Finally. We put our hearts into it, getting lost in each other. Getting lost in our sudden understandings of the other.
“We’re both really kinda stupid aren’t we? Stupid and oblivious,” I say, chuckling quietly.
“Oh, definitely. I mean, we’ve known each other for, what, at least ten years and we couldn’t figure this out without a bunch of drama?”
“It seems very on brand for you actually, you’ve always been one for the dramatics.”
“I love you.”
“And I love you.”
I was thinking of writing an Eddie angst where like the reader has powers and she feel like she could have saved Eddie???

Pairing: Eddie Munson X F!reader
Summary: Eddie has passed in the upside but his girlfriend, who he promised to spend his life with, is now left feeling as if she should have been there to save him. With her powers she could have kept him alive but now he’s gone and he’s out of her reach.
Warning: mentions of death, mentions of murder, mentions of reanimating people, angst, sadness and I think that’s it…
Please reblog, like and comment if you enjoy! Let me know if you want a part 2?

“If anyone dies bring back the body”
That was the last thing I said to them before they left for the upside down.
They came back and I waited for Eddie to come through my door. But instead I was met with the tears on Dustin’s face, Eddie died. I looked at him like he was crazy, my Eddie couldn’t have died. He was meant to come back to me, it took me a minute but I calmed myself.
“Where’s his body?” I asked him, Dustin cocked his head to the side and looked confused at me through hooded eyes.
“What?” He retorted
“Where is his body? I said to bring back any bodies” I said
“We just barely made it out we couldn’t bring him back. He died” Steve said, I looked at him. He was serious, they left his body to rot in the upside down.
“This has to be a sick joke, where is his body?” I inquired, they all looked at me like I was crazy.
“We left him, we couldn’t bring him back. But he died being a true hero. Saving a town that hated him.” Dustin said
“Well, tell the town to fucking shove it up the ass and bring him back.” I said, I stood up and walked around them.
“It’s going to be ok” Steve said
“No it’s not ok, you guys like his body in the upside down to rot. Don’t telling it’s fucking ok, you don’t get to decide that” I said, now anger coursing through my body. They aren’t allowed to decide if everything will be ok, they should have brought back Eddie. He put all his faith in them and now he’s dead in the same place I worked so hard to keep him away from

It’s been a rough couple of days, all these kids going “missing”. But people were still trying to blame it on Eddie, he fucking died for this shit hole town and in return they blame him for murders he didn’t commit. He was never a cult leader, he was never a danger, he didn’t commit any crimes ( that I didn’t know of). Maybe I shouldn’t lash out like this but Eddie was gone and these dickhead kids were still bullying him behind his back. But at least I sent them back home when I was done. I woke up from my nap to see the groups faces contorted in horror. I simply looked at my artwork, their limp bodies hung like monumental statues on my wall. Almost all their blood had drained out, though the reaction I was getting out of the group was very much amusing I started undoing their deaths.
“What’s happening?” Mike asked rather horrified
“I’m bringing them back to life.” I said, i stood on my couch and pulled the stakes out of the boys chests and let them fall to the ground. They slowly stood up confused and walked right out the front door. I sat up on my couch and stared back at the people that stood in front of me.
“How did you do that?” Robin inquired, I raised my hand in a gun hand signal and pointed it at her chest.
“Bang” I said, I watched as I left a small hole in her chest. They all looked at her in shock, I reversed the hand motion and it was like I never shot her.
“Like that, I’m your best and worst nightmare.” I said, I got up and started to tidy my space.
I stopped in front of Steve, he looked at me and tried to keep his cool facade.
“Who should be my next little victim?” I questioned. I smiled and walked around him, they watched my even move as I went around my living room cleaning the beer bottles and the takeout plates.
“How can you do any of this?” Dustin asked
“Just the perks of being 000” I said and winked. I spotted a picture of Eddie and sighed, he was smiling and so full of life but now he was dead and I couldn’t even reach him to bring him back to life.
“I’m gonna kill 001” I said
“We did kill him” Nancy said
“No you didn’t, I can still hear his pulse. It’s weak but it’s there” I stated, I properly placed Eddie’s photo on my table and cleaned around him.
“What do you mean you can hear his pulse?” Dustin questioned.
“I can hear it which means I can hear it. I told you I’m triple O do you not understand the consequences and actions behind my power.”I said he kind off looked at me in shock.
“The only reason I didn’t go with you guys was because I couldn’t, I was at my limit. I would have caused everyone more pain then anything.” I said, but was that really true? If I had gone Eddie would have still been alive. My love would a little bruised but he would have been here. Now what? I’m just supposed to accept the fact that he is gone forever and I have give up?
