I just finished reading Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries (which I love, 15/10!), and was thinking about how it and Howls Moving Castle have similar romances & love interests and I think part of the reason they work so well is because Howell and Wendell aren’t just “the perfect man”, they’re the perfect man specifically for Sophie and Emily. They would probably suck to date. They’re vain and lazy. But they complement the main characters perfectly and help them grow as people without forcing them to or expecting them to change. I think that’s one of my favorite parts of those romances, the accepting that the other is who they are but if they want to try and improve themself, helping them.

And the hints of the academic drama at Cambridge?? I love it. It reminds me about how different departments have drama at my college that I hear about
Heather Fawcett did a great job with the casual world building and I literally cannot wait for the next book. I’m gonna keep relistening until I can afford to buy the book, then I’m gonna reread it til I can get the next

Latest Sketch-a-Wish voted on by my lovely Patreon members for August! Inspired by Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands (Emily Wilde #2) by Heather Fawcett, featuring Emily and Wendell in some morning afterglow. I love how Emily is being indecisive about doing the traditional romantic things before Wendell wakes, but then he cuddles up with her anyway, deciding for her. Too cute.
