Setting the record straight because Emma alluded to it but not super clearly: Jack looks up a list of “safest cars” so Bitty won’t get hurt in any situation.

ABSOLUTELY. He does SO MUCH RESEARCH. First, like, he just does some fishing, asking about Bitty’s favorite types of cars (Bitty is a Southern boy; he loves big SUVs), and what colors he likes (“I don’t know, any color. There’s something kind of sexy and classic about black cars, though.”), and then Jack is like, cool. Got the info. Time to do some research.

So then he googles, “safest SUVs” and then when that gives him back these like… frankly kinda dumpy looking cars, Jack googles, “safest luxury SUVs” because, well, it was Bittle who said he liked “sexy and classic” cars, so that’s what Jack wants to get. That’s what he’s going for. Sexy and classic. And safe. The safest car.

How They Knew

Just a little bit about how the team found out on their own. 

“Jack has his own Lego?”

Lardo came into Bitty’s room looking for nail polish she left there but was easily distracted by the small toy. 

“Yup,” Bitty says brightly from his spot on the bed. “Whole team has them. Isn’t it cute?”

“Yeah, I want one. Where’d you buy it?”

“Oh.” Bitty presses his lips together and sits up. His book falls off his lap. “Uh, Jack gave that one to me but they might available in the Falconers store now.”

“He just gave this one to you?”

“Yeah?” Bitty forms it as a question and looks down at his hands that he’s wringing together.

being Southern at Samwell probably gets lonely

I grew up the child of progressive Northern parents in the American South. In high school, I distanced myself from/protested the homophobic constitutional amendments and gun culture and Confederate flags and Christian supremacy all around me. But my image of the South’s complexity, and my understanding and respect for where I grew up even with all its flaws, has grown as I’ve lived in other countries and regions. I keep coming back to my home state. So naturally I’ve started thinking of how Bitty handles his white Southern identity.

We know most students at Samwell would never dream of teasing Bitty for being gay or for how he presents his gender. We know Bitty adores Samwell and is super secure in loving his Mama Bittle and making jokes about culture clashes. But I’m wondering if sometimes Bitty gets this wave of feeling really different from the people around him. There’s so much stereotyping of Southerners as dumb, and poor, and bigoted, of white Southerners as all completely racist (as way more racist than white Northerners). Bitty’s accent is not exactly prestigious, even though fandom and Bitty’s friends think it’s charming. And Bitty’s grown up around people who fit those stereotypes, has been locked into closets and misunderstood by those people! But not everybody he knows is like that, and some of those who are are still his family, you know? 

Headcanons: 

Bitty getting tired of how basic aspects of his family’s traditions and his high school’s culture seem baffling and weird to everybody else. 

Bitty’s teammates thinking they’re chirping him good-naturedly, but saying something that actually kinda stings. / Bitty making a joke that falls totally flat and tweeting about it (has this happened in canon?).

Bitty learns Québécois history and bonds with Jack over being seen as the hicks of their respective countries. (Then he gets good enough at French and they play “Speak White” by Michèle Lalonde in one of his classes, and it suddenly hits him how he’s been watching his own language presentation in internship interviews.)

It turns out Bitty knows more about the Civil Rights Movement than Jack does, just from stories and state history lessons - but every now and then Bitty tells a story about his high school and Jack points out how something that seemed normal was actually pretty racist, or a manifestation of structural racism.

The day Bitty gets this unfamiliar rush of defensiveness when someone makes a joke about redneck Trump supporters–even though he would totally have said the same thing with friends back home! It’s weird! Bitty talks with his parents about it that week and it turns into a really good, nuanced conversation about politics.

Just saw you wanted to be sent things? I've been thinking about how Bitty might fit in great as a gay student, but as a Southerner, might be lonely among folks baffled by his culture or bothered by casual stereotypes. Just blogged longer thoughts than fit here, but tl;dr version: what if Bitty gets defensive of his family / town when people joke about bigoted/dumb Southerners, even when he'd make the same critique himself? if he understands Jack's Québécois background better than they'd expect?

AH! I usually try to add things to what people send me but I have nothing to add to this. I just agree with you hundo p. :)

Check Please as a secret Supernatural hunters AU

A while ago I had the idea of a group of amicable bros who hunt supernatural stuff for fun, protection, advancement of human knowledge and then eat and Denny’s after or something. The actual story involved some farm boy asking for their help regarding a werewolf and him becoming close friends with them. This never fully panned out (just one of those story ideas you get in a burst of creativity and than have a hard time fleshing out) but I realized I basically imagined the supernatural group as the cast of Check Please. So I figure why not make some related head-canons (good god why was this opening so long).

•So basically a lot of supernatural crap happens in Samwell Massachusetts (it is New England after all), so many groups have been formed in the past, but most couldn’t quite work together well or were just friends who knew jack about beasts and magic.

• That is until we get a perfect combination to start a paranormal investigation business: a metaphysical and superstitious jock type guy, a foul mouthed Bostonian who doesn’t know a whole lot of supernatural stuff but who’s loyal to a daily and will literally do anything, and a stoic yet caring French Canadian who has that classic “legacy of monster hunters” (like in this AU Bad Bob killed vampires) and a prolific Journal.

• So anyway say Shitty and Johnson are already friends and say a witch or something is really messing with their lives. They try to deal with it themselves but they bite off more than they can chew and almost die, that is until mysterious Jack Zimmerman shows up out of nowhere and pulls some cool supernatural stuff to get the witch, but it doesn’t quite work.

•Shitty and Johnson thank Jack (Johnson probably says some crap about how the story can finally start getting good), but Jack is all angry and stoic cuz this is Year 1 Jack mixed with your typical “monster Hunter who probably has a super sad backstory involving his parents and monsters” so yeah things are slow at first but Shitty and Johnson insist on working with him since the Witch was really pissing them off (and Johnson needs this AU to go somewhere).

•cue an epic series where the three of them work together to hunt down the witch and all bond over random crap, and Jack opens up about his tragic backstory a little bit, and there’s world building regarding how they hunt monsters. Eventually they track the witch down to some crazy looking house and after an epic and very emotional battle they banish her using the same thing Jack tried earlier but it works cuz it’s with all three of them since teamworks cures all. After that they decide that they should do this more often and decide to make the old, decrepit house into an old decrepit Haus.

That’s all I got, I know it’s painfully unoriginal but I had a lot of fun and like the AU (who knows maybe I may actually write it someday). And then I can make sequels that bring in Ransom, Holster, Lardo, Bitty, Olly and Wicky, the Frogs, the Tadpoles, Waffles, Tater probably, and Kent Parson cuz of course he’s involved somehow.

Almost (if not all) of these characters are Queer As Hell. It’s brilliant. If you like Golden-Retriever-Sunshine-Boy-with-Troubled-Past x Grumpy-Black-Cat-with-Emotionally-Distant-Parents trope, then you’ll love this!

I saw this in my local public library once, picked it up, and never (emotionally) put it down. These books started my craving for 2D queer sports. This is what put me onto “Fence” in the first place. It’s canon, it’s sweet, the main character is a cutie, what more could you want?

Now, you might think, “Exy isn’t a real sport” and you would be correct. Nora invented it for the novel. It’s like if the basics of lacrosse met the violence of ice hockey and it was played on a football (soccer) sized field with a balance of genders on the teams. This nonsense altered my brain chemistry, for better or worse, we will never know. However. If you seem intrigued, and want to read, PLEASE google the trigger warnings. Anything you think could possibly be triggering is definitely in this book. If you don’t want to google for fear of spoils, feel free to message me. These books are simultaneously the best and worst things I've ever had the (dis)pleasure of reading. I love them. They’re terribly written. They’re a mastery of metaphors set on a background of college sports with a mafia subplot. It’s like if a crazy fanfic got published. ALSO short king representation. Main man is 5’3, second main man is 5’0. I love this to pieces and I hate it to nothings.

Anyways, it’s really cute and I watched t when i was in my own skateboarding era so i loved it so much.

YAYAYAYAYAYSYYA :3!!!! I LOVE TALKING ABOUT THEM!!!!!

So their name is James “Wing” Williams, he’s jacks rookie the year after bittys senior year. He’d been taken right at the ripe age of 17, wasn’t even 18 yet, but was eligible. So, this child is very new to the league. And I mean very. The strange thing is,, he barely talks. Like, less than jack. He knows French, it was his first launage, (the French jack knows I forgot its name!!), but he also barely speaks using that.

Turns out, he’s just really really god damn shy. The first time the team heard him talk besides yelling on the ice for pucks and plays? Was when someone started talking about Perry Jackson. Huge nerd. After that, they figured out the kid needed time, and to be able to talk to them, he had to feel comfortable.

Jack is rooming hik with bitty, and so obviously they hear him talk, but still, he’s just so quiet. He has his nickname wingers because of how much he knows about birds and their wings. He’s about 6’4, and shoots and plays left wing.

Jamie Lee "Winger" Williams :3(AKA check please oc!) At 18 years old, he was a first round, the number 1, draft pick of the NHL. He went to the provedince falconers, being paired with Jack as his rookie. Jamie is a very quiet indivual, who grew up in Quebec, learning french. He knows 3 launages, French and spanish, as that was spoken at his house, and then english because hockey. He played in the QHML (Quebec major junior hockey leauge), for 2 years before being draft elgible. He played with the saint john sea dogs, and then was traded in his last year Sherbrooke Phoneix. Jamie barely spoke (except on the ice, when he could be loud), to the team. If he did, it was quiet french to Jack, Or any of the other french speaking players. He is new and fresh to the leauge, and he is smashing records, yet the commentars call him a bust. So, he doesn't talk much. Focuses on his game. (Jack sees a lot of his younger self in him.) He starts opening up as the season goes on.

Jamie stands at 6'4, shoots left and plays left winger on the second line. He has two older sisters, and was raised by his dad and step mother Monteral.

This is Alexander Alain Zimmerman. He is Jack’s little brother. By how much? 15 years. He was four when the 2009 draft disaster went down. He was a surprise baby, blamed on stress. He wasn’t found out about until well along. He was born in July.

Alexander at 15 years old plays at a boarding school academy. He’s under a shit ton of pressure. He not only has his dad, but his brothers shadow to live in. He plays Rigjt wing, and is 6’2. He shoots left, though.

Hes been under the pressure since he was born. He was seen as a scandal, he acutally had an article published about him when he was five months old about how he might not have been bobs.. yeah. They were pissed. (Don’t ask me how Bob and Alicia’s ages work in this.) anyway.. if yall want some drabbles.. let me know..
