It was so heartbreaking... They finally found each other, but they split up again. I can’t even imagine how MC!Aether/Lumine feels after that accident-
Toward the end, Paimon asked if they(MC) were okay and they replied that they were... not sad (there were two options but WHATEVER) but I’m sure they were SAD. How can you not be sad after what happened? I’m sure MC!Aether/Lumine became even more depressed that they were.
Dude... After seeing the details, I just want to hug Aether and Lumine. If I were Paimon, I’d have hugged them a long time ago, no kidding.

It's so painfully close to having an actual Genshin Dimitri! If Dainsleif becomes a polearm user, I'm going to flip.
(But maybe a sword or Catalyst since he is called Twilight SWORD or the abilities he used to stop that one Abyss Herald.)
I also found it funny because Dainsleif's VA, Yuri Lowenthal is married to Tara Platt, voice of Edelgard.

Summary ; A confession !
Butterflies are such beautiful creatures. The mixtures of colors and patterns under their wings, it's quite something, isn't it? But alas, butterflies can't see their own beauty. They live their life peacefully without knowing how much complexion they bring into our grey world.
Dainsleif was always a hard rock to crack. When you first met him, your relationship was as murky as a muddy puddle. To say the least, it was very interesting.
It felt like he knew you inside out from the start. Not in the lovey-dovey way, he just knew certain facts about you that you swore you never told anyone. At the start, it was kind of weird but you got used to it and accepted his omniscient ways. You never questioned him about it.
Over a long period of time, your friendship finally started developing. Dainsleif never really opened up to you much but you started noticing the small details about him, things like how when he smiles he has a dimple on his left cheek but not his right. How smells like pinecones mixed with some Mondstadt delicacies and his small sweet gestures. He would always bring you things that reminded him of you.
Inevitably, you would end up falling for him. These feelings terrified you, imagining all the work you've put into this relationship just tumbling like a ball sitting on top of a steep hill.
Eventually, after a few months, you worked up the courage to tell him.
"Dainsleif" You sweated nervously. Your heart was pounding and you were basically shaking in your boots. You watch as he stares at the swarm of clouded sulphur butterflies. Their light green and brown colors blending in with their surroundings.
Nature was quite beautiful with him. It seems like your lack of awareness just disappears when with him. You start noticing the little things in nature. The beehive filled with golden honey you passed by while walking up this hill or the sweet flower's smell of sugar.
"Yes, Y/n?" You gulped and avoided his eye contact. Dainsleif always seemed to make eye contact while talking. When he talks, he has this serious tone in his voice. When he makes "jokes" his monotone voice is hilarious to you. You don't comment on it but he did consider becoming a comedian in Mondstadt just because of your reactions.
"I've got something important to tell you-" It surprised you that you haven't stuttered even once in this situation. Sentences that spill out of your mouth usually are all jumbled and mixed up.
"Go ahead. I'm here and listening." You took a deep breath and swallowed the hitch in your throat deciding to just get it over with.
"I- uh- I think I may be in love with you. haha.. insane right-?" The silence heard after your sentence was deafening. The monarch butterflies seemed to have flown somewhere else as you finally bring your eyes up to meet Dainsleif's.
A small smile made its way onto his lips. It felt like he was mocking you but realizing he's not the type to act like that, you relax your tense shoulders.
"That's quite lovely, isn't it? I'm glad to say that your feelings are reciprocated." A smile tugs at your lips, you adore the way he speaks. Always elaborating and using elegant words.
A sigh of relief rolls off your tongue as he walks towards you. The time spent with you also affected him. He noticed how you scratch your neck when you're in a tough situation, how the way your hands seem to get sweaty when your focusing or how clumsy you seem to be, how you try to make jokes even in nerve-wracking conditions.
The sound of Dainsleif's footsteps make an imprint in your brain as he continues his way over to you. He brings his hands up to your cheeks and cups them. Forcing you to make eye contact with him. You could swear you're heart was running a marathon because of how fast it was beating.
"I adore you, darling."
You'll probably never know how many new shades of color you bring into his life. Your stubbornness, your feelings, your everything. He treasured it all. All the sweet surprises from you lit up his day, like monarch butterflies in a grey world.

Have a random Dainsleif drawing.
I'm just here to tell you how much I love that whole chasm quest with Dainsleif and how I was both terrified and sad throughout the whole thing. :'D
I am a Dainsleif x Lumine shipper. It is one of the few well known Dain ships that still continues to persist after every Dain quest we get.
But personally, I'm not into the abyss Lumine ship. I'm actually into the Dainsleif x Traveler Lumine ship.
It just does stuff to my hurt/comfort loving heart. Gosh darn it. :'D
Two immortal travelers travelling for different purposes. For Dain, to stop the Abyss and their plans. For Lumine, mainly to find their twin, Aether. Because of these purposes, both travelers do not settle permanently in one place. They continue to traverse the lands of Teyvat for their sole purposes, with no place they can truly call home because that home is lone gone. The home that is his godless nation, and the home she considers her brother.
Although different, one of the common things they have is their relationship with Aether. For as much as they would never attempt to hide their disdain and caution for the Abyss, a part of them still hesitates when Aether is in the picture.
The idea of them not only bonding over their experiences with Aether, but also find some comfort in one another as kinda lonely travelers just gets me. The two could just be together in the woods, cooking with their campfires, Paimon rambling whatever she could talk about and Lumine bickering with her back, Paimon sometimes dragging Dain to the convo, and etc. And the two then briefly talk about their fond memories of Aether, or how despite meeting many people in various nations, it sometimes still feels lonely.
Lumine's known for helping her friends and allies out. So naturally, she'd want to help Dain as well. I think his Chasm quest alone showed that even in Dain's most vulnerable, she will be there.
But Dain helping her out, returning that favour by being there for her, would give Lumine the very support she needed throughout her travels.
Paimon will always be her closest and dearest companion, but Lumine couldn't have it in her to tell Paimon of her deepest, ugliest doubts and despairs. Maybe it would've been too much to put on her, to taint that bond with nothing but so much negativity. (Even though I believe that Paimon would stay true to her no matter what horrible doubts she could tell her.)
Dain could not only comfort her, but in a way, somewhat understand her. The two lonely travelers, with different purposes and values, yet still find some comfort in each other.
Okay. Most of these are just headcanons or how I hope their relationship could be down the line. Doesn't even have to be romantic nor does it have to be Lumine as the Traveler. Platonic works and Traveler Aether can still be applied. (Dain x Traveler Lumine just has a soft spot in my heart.)
Basically, please continue making Dain an honorary traveling companion. Put some emphasis to that fact please. :'D
If not for the rant I provided, then do it for the potential of funny interactions between Paimon and Dain. Those two as a duo sounds weirdly hilarious. Lol

I made this when I was trying to make up angst scenes for dain before sleeping (as one does) but I'm not sure if it's actually any good. Lmk what you think!
“... Then, the threads of all fate will be yours to re-weave. My memory has all but faded completely... but I will always remember how much she too, loved these flowers.”
Dainsleif's voice comes to a halt but you don't miss his tone of it. The longing clearly laced behind his sentiment. The faraway look in his eyes. As if the very subject of his desires was right there. Standing under the stars on the edge of the cliff, looking back at him too.
In turn, your own gazes up at him with such admiration. He does have a way with words that woo you off your feet — despite his words not being for you, despite the subtle feeling of upset settling in the depths of your stomach.
Dainsleif grazed the petals with such gentleness that you think he might be pretending it's the girl he's talking about. You sigh, a smile on your lips and you bury yourself deeper into your crossed arms, the smell of grass and Mondstadt's soil covers your senses. “You were in love with her.”
Dainsleif's hand freeze on the flower. Stunned. As if this was the first time someone outside of himself told him straightforwardly of his bottled up feelings. And it was the first time. Hell, he wasn't even sure of himself but the way you said it... with such certainty and void of denial.
It takes him a while to respond. "I wasn't."
You stare at him, quiet, the sides of your mouth falling to a grimace. Disappointed in him almost when it was so painfully obvious how in love he was with his previous companion. But you reckon on his own time he would recognize it himself. Or maybe he has after your statement, he just can't admit it.
“Then you still are.”
You don't say anything after that. You turn to your side on the grass, looking away and then closing your eyes to let sleep consume you, and not the prickling feeling in your heart.
The legacy of Khaenri'ah is long gone, the sinners are all that’s left.

“Oh, Dainsleif. . . I didn't know I would meet you here.“ the h/c-haired person said jumping off the stone on which they were sitting.
The man flinched slightly at the familiar voice, and turned to the direction it was coming from.
“Y/N. . .”
"You haven't forgotten my name yet. Hm, nice." they said as they approached the taller man with blonde hair. He just looked away. “So, what are you doing here?”
“And what are you doing here? Are you spying on someone again?”
They were standing in front of the stone entrance to the domain. Moments before this, a Traveler entered it together with his emergency food little floating friend. Already standing at the entrance, they could feel the disturbing aura emerging from the ruins.
"Yes? It's my job after all." they said bluntly.
"Right. . ." he sighed. "Traveler?"
They nodded in response. "You too?"
"Not really, actually." the blue-eyed responded. "I followed the tracks of Abyss Herald.”
"Oh, I sensed him too."
"And I saw your friend too." they added after a while.
Dain freezed, knowing who the e/c-eyed was talking about. “Friend. . .” he thought. "Will you be waiting for him here?"
“. . .” Y/N went silent for a moment without answering the question. They looked somewhere in the distance without expressing any emotions. "Do you hate me?" they asked suddenly.
The man was shocked. Why did they suddenly ask such a question? And why should they think so?
"Why would I-"
"-because of what happened in Khaenri'ah" they explained, interrupting him.
Sudden silence reigned between them. They were looking around when Dain stared straight at them in surprise. He remembers well what happened then. But why would he hate them?
". . . I know what you think about the Archons now, that's why I asked." they said as if reading his mind.
". . . You are not one of them. . ."
"But they created me, right? I am something that was made by their hands. Besides, I was there then too, and I did nothing to help. Doesn't it give you enough reason to hate me-"
"-it's not like you had a choice." this time it was his turn to interrupt them. He was no longer looking at the h/c-haired, but down. They saw the anger slowly building up in his eyes. He himself did not know why what they said irritated him. "You said it yourself once. You cannot oppose most of the orders these Archons give." his voice grew softer. "You had no choice. Am I correct?"
“I-. . .” they didn't know what to say. They stared at him speechless. Y/N knew what he said was true. Still, it felt as if it was partly their fault. Everything that happened. In the past and present. After all, they did so many terrible things. . .
“Y/N, I-” suddenly he heard noises coming from the ruins. When he wanted to look at the e/c-eyed, they were no longer there.
“We met again and you ran away as always. . .” he thought as the traveler and Paimon emerged from the domain. "I hope we will meet soon. . ."
