Welcome back to “What’s my New Favorite Hyper-fixation?” Well on this episode, I have been introduced to the “Postal” series and I have been obsessed.

Honestly, the fact that terry Pratchett has experience around nuclear power makes so much sense once you realize what magic is standing as a metaphor for in the discworld. Like, look at this fucking quote from going postal:

"That's why [magic] was left to wizards, who knew how to handle it safely. Not doing any magic at all was the chief task of wizards—not "not doing magic" because they couldn't do magic, but not doing magic when they could do and didn't. Any ignorant fool can fail to turn someone else into a frog. You have to be clever to refrain from doing it when you knew how easy it was. There were places in the world commemorating those times when wizards hadn't been quite as clever as that, and on many of them the grass would never grow again."

Like... It feels incredibly obvious what he's talking about once you know the context.

so moist von lipwig is a literal biblical angel. he's a messenger, his uniform has wings, he has a multitude of eyes (all his different identities and the different 'inner selves' he shows to people). this book so far contains a delightful amount of religious imagery that i was not expecting

You think about money in the old-fashioned way. Money is not a thing, it is not even a process. It is a kind of shared dream. We dream that a small disc of common metal is worth the price of a substantial meal. Once you wake up from that dream, you can swim in a sea of money.

Fun fact I don't know why I remember: one of the very few mass shootings which involved a woman shooter was one of these postal worker murders. I believe she killed and wounded 25 people at the depot where she had worked before being fired. Many employee shootings of this nature occur due to bad treatment of the workers or they have been laid off after dealing with some significant life struggle. Like school shootings, they are usually an elaborate suicide in which the killer wants to go out in such a way as to be remembered, to get some attention and often revenge, and so that they do not have to pull the trigger themselves.

In general a lot of these postal killings, like the murders which take place in fast food franchises everywhere, would not happen if workers were treated better. Thanks for coming to my weird TED talk.

insane how people think i can just do things. "can you mail me this?" and get killed by the post office desk workers?????!!!?

Is it a well known fact in the discworld Fandom that The Truth and Going Postal are basically the same book? They feel so similar in their plots and characters, going postal is just better because the Moist is cool.

I'll be the first one to admit that the entire reason I got it was because of tumblr, and tumblr would never lead me wrong

The only thing I know about it is the main Character is called moist, and he's shipped with Arthur Lester for some reason
