I've seen some people say that Sanemi was trying to save Genya by blinding him and his actions were justified and totally not an impulsive decision made out of fear. So okay, say he did succeed what makes you think that being blind will stop Genya?
One thing that we know about our boy is that he is resourceful as fuck! He is the embodiment of the phrase 'when there's a will, there's a way'. Being blind will NOT deter him from his goals I assure you.
Instead his training with Gyomei will just intensify; for Genya out of determination and for Gyomei out of spite because how dare you assume that being blind is enough to stop someone from being a Demon Slayer?
Sanemi vastly underestimates his brother and his abilities. Genya overcame not being able to use breathing techniques, not getting a proper nichirin blade, his physical limitations, I mean he uses a GUN! With nichirin BULLETS! That's GENIUS! He also managed to win over the strongest Hashira Gyomei 'fuck-them-kids' Himejima!

Which is why Sanemi using Genya's weapons (especially his gun) against Kokushibo was such a powerful scene. He's acknowledging his brother's strengths, trusting his brother's abilities and allowing his brother to protect him!
And it was when he laid down his pride, finally talked to his brother and trusted both him and Gyomei to protect him that he was able to unlock his Demon Slayer Mark!
I have a whole analysis about the Demon Slayer marks as well as each of the Upper Moon fights and I'll post them soon.
But yeah, not only would Sanemi's blinding of Genya be pointless but it would have prevented him from unlocking his mark and ultimately led to the loss of the fight with Kokushibo and Muzan.
We can love characters while admitting their faults and condemning their shitty actions. That's what makes them human.
Gyomei rationalizes his sadness.
When he talks to Tanjiro about what happened with the kids, he describes the incident in detail and how it hurt him, ending with "Nothing to be done..That's how kids are." He knows deep down that their betrayal wasn't out of intentional evil; it's just their self-centered nature. But this understanding doesn't stop him from becoming a really distrustful person. He's aware of what hurt him that night and knows that Sayo's apology could have made a difference. Still knowing why he suffers and what caused it doesn't stop the pain or allow healing.
He's really sympathetic and smart which helps him understand why people do what they do. But at the same time he believes people will always mess up and hurt each other because it's just human nature. So he keeps his distance preferring to avoid getting hurt especially by kids.
It's sad because Gyomei is naturally a deeply caring and loving person, but he has to fight against his gentle nature to keep himself isolated and only focused on fighting.

Giyuu and Kokushibo are eating together, just the two. Just casual Thursday dinner.
About two months later
Giyuu and Obanai are sitting next to each other. Riko and Shinobu is making some extra food for Mitsuri. Akaza is chasing Senjuro, Senjuro stole his jacket. Kyojuro is trying to stop the two. Gyomei is sitting next to Kokushibo. Genya is eating but quite awkward as it’s his first “family dinner” while Muichiro is laying down staring at the ceiling. What a chaotic Thursday dinner.

I would've wanted to see the kamaboko squad having a contest on who can build the best sand castle (rip everyone but kanao and genya made the best ones) inosuke's is just literally a huge pile of sand and some sticks he found but he's so proud of it that they awarded him first place bc it's the right thing to do. Mui is the judge, let him be a silly child who sasses everyone's works but tanjirou's
mitsuri, obanai, rengoku and tengen having a beach soccer tournament; shinobu, aoi and the butterfly mansion girlies are the ones who keeps track of the scores (and is there mainly to make sure nobody dies of stupidity)
gyomei literally has hoards of cats under his clothes but nobody says a thing because he's having fun and that's what matters
giyuu chilling on a corner until sanemi pulls on his hand while saying, "stop bumming everyone out and have fun with us" so they join the soccer tournament for fun and it gets intense that they all break the poor ball
then everyone jumps in to swim
suddenly, tengen's three wives, makio, suma and hinatsuru arrive to serve more food to everyone
gotou and murata are there too, focused on grilling fish and meat while both take interest on the sweets
okay you know what, let's include the moons but at night time
akaza will bury douma on the sand, with only his head visible and douma is happy to finally get noticed by akaza, not knowing akaza intended for him to be there until morning because of the absurd amounts of stones keeping him there. hantengu even asks him if he's fine there and douma is just chilling and happy. It took all of akaza's resistance to not kick douma's head off multiple times
gyokko gathering seashells and making an insane "art" that's too terrible that daki would've insulted it if gyutaro didn't stop her from letting her destructive intrusive thoughts win over the hierarchy
nakime is chilling far away from them and is wishing to not be associated with any of them. like at all.
kaigaku is underwater probably cursing zenitsu or sth
kokushibou is ignored by everyone and sees everything unfold, mumbling, "I see..." And then proceeds to bury himself in the sand with only his six eyes visible on the ground.
muzan curses in a different language when he realized he almost stepped on kokushibou's three pairs of eyes
