omg hihi I’ve been trying to find humanities kids because im one too 😭 but yea poli sci is next and im so close to losing it (cant wait to burn the politics in india textbook after this 😵‍💫) and that’s apart from the fact that im not taking these exams as seriously as i should, i started three animes ever since the english board got over send help <3

but lmao my problems aside, best of luck for poli sci to you and whoever else may see this ask !!

Hey!!! You can now find them on my 'Humanities kids seeking' post and I was surprised to find so many of us! I was so delighted!!

I feel you! I get you! [I guess we all have a strong dislike towards the Politics in India book] But why are all students having such strong urges of arsonism, it's already so hot 😭 folks I'm concerned, this metaphor is adding fuel to the already burning fire and damn the heatwaves. This paper is already a five-alarm fire...and I'm so fired up that I'm using too many fire related idioms. Sending help [I think I need it too] <3 but don't worry, if you're feeling prepared enough then there's no point in burning yourself out by stressing too much that you're not stressed enough. Hopefully the paper will go nice!!

All the best to you too!! And everyone for whatever papers they have coming up!!

Founded in 1911, the CAA promotes excellence in scholarship and teaching in the visual arts. It is the oldest and largest support organization for those working in the visual arts.

Really useful resource for emerging museum professionals.

How-to guides for writing your c.v., cover letters, manuscript proposals, etc.

Great resource to introduce others to personal intellectual property (IP) rights and for deciphering U.S.A. copyright legislation.

so, yeah, Plato was definitely an asexual. Stop calling the man naïve for thinking love doesn’t require sex.

In other news, I will be commenting for the rest of the lecture.

Woof, if you’re going to roast the man like that, you’d think Plato would get more time in the discussion. Nope, now we talking solely about Notre Dame de Paris. And yet, nothing about the massive reconstruction efforts, the conservation of the original techniques, the training of the craftsmen going into this.

But finally a good description of how the new arch style differed from the ones before. And why flying buttresses were important.

so, yeah, Plato was definitely an asexual. Stop calling the man naïve for thinking love doesn’t require sex.

In other news, I will be commenting for the rest of the lecture.

A humanities course is not the place to start screaming because the professor is perpetuating the myth of medieval stupidities. But holy hell I want to. Treading on a nerve here, prof. For one thing, yes they had noticed the sickness that came with using contaminated water. Next you’re going to say they didn’t bath either. When we have records of public bath houses, in that beloved art of yours.

If you want me to wrote an eight paragraph paper, and then give me eight questions requiring a paragraph to answer, where is the introduction, thesis, and conclusion supposed to go? Gah!

YOOOO I WAS NOT PREPARED FOR ANY OF THIS WHY ARE THEY ALL ACCURATE

Hockey Players as Greek Gods

Zeus- (God of the Sky)-Sidney Crosby, has the most power and rules over everyone. Brooding when angry, likes to travel but not be noticed or talked to.

Hera- (God of Marriage, Mothers and Families)- Marc-Andre Fleury, loves their family. Likes to be in the carpool line or cut oranges for soccer games. But do not anger, you will not exist anymore.

Athena- (God of Wisdom, War and Useful Arts)- Dougie Hamilton, the smart ones, likes to wander around museums, only interacts with intellectuals, probably get a degree for FUN

Aphrodite- (God of Love and Beauty)-Roman Josi, very very pretty, uses their looks to get what they want, and it works 1000% of the time, is here for a good time not a long time

Hermes- (God of the Roadways, Travelers, Merchants, and Thieves)-Mat Barzal, terrible style with joggers and shitty shoes, always missing, tends to start trouble but can never finish it, always needs backup.

Poseidon- (God of the Sea)- Erik Johnson, UNHINGED, would create horses out of sea form, only wears Hawaiian shirt, shorts, and flipflops, likes to talk to anyone.

Apollo- (God of Archery, Music, Poetry, Prophecy, and Medicine)- Tyson Jost, likes to look HOT, always looks good, is into everything from Music to Medicine; won’t be good at it but points for trying.

Dionysus- (God of Wine)- Quinn Hughes, pasty man who always looks hungover, a grumpy man barely surviving. Not much of a fighter…more of just stern petty looks.

Dumb

THIS!!!!!!!!!!!! ALL OF THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS ALL SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!! you’ve done it again amazing spectacular showstopping!

ej as poseidon makes so. much. sense. and quinn as dionysus has me dying AHAHAHAH💀 also tyson as apollo isn’t something i thought i needed in life but here i am.. a whore for this concept omfg

Yes, but: those skills have recently been shown to be a) particularly necessary and b) systematically undervalued in a way we don't see in STEM skills. There's a broad consensus that science, math, and engineering are Useful Today--which is absolutely true! But the accompanying pivot away from critical analysis of texts has, I think, done a great deal of harm. The was journalists create, and the public consumes, narratives of false equivalency and the way queer and fan spaces (overlapping, of course) have been subjected to this neo-puritanicalism that can't separate an author from a narrator from a character, are both examples of this.

In sum: most people don't need to know how to fix their car or understand Finnegan's Wake. Most people do need to know when statistics and verbal statements are honest or disingenuous manipulations or outright lies.

I mean, I agree at least with the minimal claim that some sort of study of literature and the surrounding disciplines (whether in school or autodidactically) would enhance the critical thinking skills of many STEM majors, but not really more than taking science and math classes would do the same for many humanities majors. I don't think English is distinctly the critical thinking discipline in the way tumblr at large seems to be increasingly coming to believe. I'd say the closest to such a class would probably be philosophy or logic, but even those are far from complete in that respect.

In A Post-truth World, Where Emotional Appeal Sometimes Drowns Out Factual Accuracy, The Humanities Are

In a post-truth world, where emotional appeal sometimes drowns out factual accuracy, the humanities are our compass. They help us question the narratives we’re presented with, cultivate empathy, and dig deeper into the layers of truth behind media, politics, and culture.

By embracing literature, history, and the arts, we enhance our critical thinking and foster a connection to the human stories that shape our collective experience. 💭

Check out our latest blog post on how the humanities equip us to navigate the complexities of a world filled with conflicting truths.

one time a stranger on neopets years ago told me “school makes you think you have to be good at everything but sometimes it’s ok to just be good at one thing. even if it’s not something you get a grade for. they don’t grade you for being a good person” and tbh i still think about it little did i know all i needed this whole time was in glowing purple text and that icon of the goth fairy

*firmly grabbing all beginner artists by the shoulders* you have to embrace inconsistency. inconsistency is good because it means you are learning. if you focus too hard on making all your art look the same you are really just holding yourself back and forcing yourself to make the same mistakes rather than develop and grow. style and consistency can come later on when your grasp on the fundamentals is stronger. now take this juice box and get out there and make some art.
