Elizabeth couldn't help the laugh that came from her, glad that he seemed to be feeling well enough to talk about her possible baking skills that only Orion has been privy to as of late. "Magically appear, huh? Well, Elizabeth might be tempted to bake something, but Mrs. Fioreli has others do all the cooking and baking for her so, I think you're shit out of luck Mr. Fioreli."

A crooked smile came to her face at the thought of Orion, small chuckle. “Yeah.” The kid had become a chink in her armor that split it wide open. Thinking about the first time she took him to a game, how he took to the game. How she found herself liking childish things she hated before like the swings at the park when she was with him. The smile on his face, sometimes he looked just like her best friend. And it was times when he looked up at her with that wide smile that she wondered if that was what Charlie felt when he had a little sister once long time ago, but that was a subject she never broached with him. Knowing how sensitive a subject it was but how god how much she yearned for a sibling. Not just the knowledge of one existing out there, like she did her sister, wherever in the world she was, but one you grew with. “Oh,” she said in mock concern before adding jokingly. “Now I know you took a bigger blow to the head than I initially thought if you think this is nice, but the dress I wore earlier wasn’t.”
Looking up from her bandaging to his eyes, she felt herself hesitate for a moment. Unsure why, as if something was to be said or done in this moment but she couldn’t tell what and it confused her. Was she just tired? Was she worried about him? Whatever it was the moment had passed and she was grateful for it, hating that she felt so unsure of herself for a moment. What was wrong with her?
The warmth of his hand was something that caught her off guard for a moment, suddenly aware of the scars on her palms and self conscious about them, so she used it to drape his arm around her shoulder instead.why was she so concerned about that? “Here,” she wrapped the arm closest to him around his waist. “Just lean on me a bit, honestly I can take it. I used to have to take Charlie home drunk as a skunk I’m tougher than I look.” Why was she sharing more about her past with him so freely like that? She had to be tired. “The sooner we get back over there, the sooner we eat, the sooner you rest.”

"Is this you saying you'll be baking something later? If ingredients happen to magically appear in that fridge." The question brought out a smile out of him as he blinked water off his eyes and wiped hair off his face.
Wally nodded at the explanation. It now made sense to him. "Insane what you'll do for the kids you love huh?" He wasn't one to talk, he had t shirts and sweaters from every single one of his nieces and nephews and their favorite shows or animals. Quite a few of the Disney hoodies with different characters because all the kids wanted to have him match with them on any given day. "You look nice."

He couldn't help but stare at her in a semi dumbfounded way. He wasn't confused but more like he was touched. Touched that she'd choose turkey over ham. He wasn't going to assume she had done that for him because that conversation was so quick that he didn't expect people to remember he had food allergies. Even more so that people would keep that in mind when they were gathering food up for him. So, crystallized emerald orbs kept staring as his brain caught up enough to make a move or say something.
The moment held a weight in the air as she helped him with his wound. Her touch was soft, he made a fist to hold himself back from grazing his hand over hers. This had an intimate electricity twinge to it but he couldn't quite voice that. Lowered eyelids stared at her handiwork. It almost seemed like she was being careful not to hurt him. He was mesmerized by her and knew his feelings would show if he couldn't control them and swallow them. "Thank you," he breathed out the gratitude.
It took him a second to lock eyes with her. There was clear emotion in his eyes that had him blink them away. He couldn't pretend that this didn't mean something to him, his face would give him away. Seeing her hand stretched out for him, he took it and the touch was soft and warm. It could have been him but he didn't really care to figure it out. Holding eye contact with her, "Yeah please. We can sit more comfortably." It was the first time he'd held her hand like this and felt immediate warmth like somehow her hand was supposed to fit in his.

"You know what," she tapped the girls nose. "You are correct. How can I walk around without some of your work of arts adorning me." Though at the moment she didn't have much real estate on her arms for the properties that Annie wanted to place on her. She'd have to start rotating bracelets around so she could wear them all. "When I get back we can make the new one types with letters to spell things out and make cute little shapes, okay." Since learning the new technique she had already thought up of making the kids all their own bracelets with their names or nicknames, something cute.
The emotions that the girl seemed to be going through made Elizabeth just as emotional. Always intelligent for her age, she seemed to understand what a big deal this meant for her as well. Then her mouth opened in surprise at what Annie brought up before she laughed. "What can I say, Annie? You're just too smart for me. Should've listened more closely, huh?" Making sure she had enough warm clothes for the climate of the land of birth, she looked at the hoodie and then back at the girl. "Yeah, your uncle gave it to me a while back. It was cold and he let me borrow it but let me have it, it's my favorite color."
She didn't know if it was the mention of that night, or because of what she had planned for this trip, but as she finished packing she found herself smiling to herself. The thought of that night at the lighthouse all that time ago ran through her head. Annie had been right, hell, everyone had seen it but her. But she didn't want to think about the what if's and regret of not coming to see what was right in front of her sooner. What mattered now was that she had arrived here and was now about to do something she thought she never would in a million years.
"Thank you, sobrinita." She smiled as she zipped up her luggage. "Antares is going to love seeing you. Between you and me, I think you're his favorite human out of all of us." Smiling, she waved at the girl as Wally took her back home. She felt like a madwoman standing there with a grin on her face as she thought about this trip, an excitement that she hadn't felt since she was a child filled her. One that she was sure he could feel when she took the hand he held out for her, and she hoped that he didn't notice.
"Red eye flights aren't as bad as people think they are." Elizabeth began. "It's usually less crowded, you get to actually rest. More chances of the seat next to you being empty and stretching out." It was something she had come to know from all her travels, especially when she had to leave at a moment's notice. "Yeah, yeah," she giggled as she settled into the car. "You, as usual, are right, mon amour."

Trying to contain her excitement but also making sure that they did as much as they could, she began to scroll through her phone to make reservations and buy tickets for anything he might have wanted to see. "I know you have always wanted to see the Northern lights but is there anything else you've also wanted to do? Blue Lagoon? The Golden Circle? There's also museums in Reykjavík."

"I'll need to write that down. That is very clever." Annie smiled and nodded her head committing that to memory in the meanwhile since she didn't have pen and paper with her. She giggled watching Liz's reaction and clapped. "Yes! Your ears! Can't be walking around without being covered with bracelets!" To be honest her uncle was well on his way to being covered head to toe.
The girl nodded fully understanding, crystal blue eyes shined as they blinked back tears. Emotions had overcome her at the thought of liz committing herself to her uncle. Then laughed when she remembered something from a long while back. "Remember when you thought he was just a friend. I knew it then." Another round of giggles were heard as she saw her pack it up with the hoodie. That hoodie made her smile. "You're the one who took it." Her eyes looked at the hoodie so Liz knew what she meant. "Soft isn't it? I'm glad you've had it."
She hurriedly covered any visible part of her luggage and nodded. "Yes please. I promise to come feed Antares when you're not here. She will be fine." She gave a scouts honor sign and smiled. "I think a movie marathon and homemade popcorn! Maybe the museum if it is not super hot." She turned to look at her uncle and waved at him. Getting the sign to hop on she shimmied right off the bed onto his back.

She wished Liz good luck and gave her a thumbs up. "Tio express!" They had Dolly at the door waiting for Liz to come join and kept wagging her tail. She'd seen the collar come out which meant she wasn't staying behind. Wally nodded and grabbed the bag on the side. "So ready. Let's go get our adventure on.' He winked in her direction and grabbed the blanket off the sofa. He closed all the doors and gave Annie the spare key telling her to give this one her moms and keep it in a different spot than the other keys. "I'm gonna drop her off real quick."
As promised he took less than two minutes to drop her off and hugged his sisters before heading back. Slightly out of breath he smiled at Liz. Holding out his hand out for her. "I'm very excited for our trip even though we're on a red eye flight." He had a bounce in his step as he grinned. "Told you that one day you'd totally take me."
Steve never tells anyone about it, but in the back of his closet is a duffle bag of clothes, and a wallet.
His grandpa gave him the wallet with two dollars in it, probably intending it to be Steve's first wallet to go buy milkshakes with after school. It was so long ago that Steve doesn't really remember receiving it—only that it was his grandfather's old wallet, black leather worn on the edges.
He never uses the two dollars for milkshakes. Instead, he stuffs whatever spare cash he has into it, hides it down in the bottom of the duffle bag beneath spare clothes and a set of shoes. The year he turns fourteen, there's a box in the mail, new leather, brown and unyielding. This is the one that sits like lead weight in his back pocket.
Sometimes, he pulls the bag out of his closet, pulls everything out of it, obsessively repacks it. Counts the cash. Re-laces the shoes.
When he's sixteen and gifted the car, he stares at it longingly and knows he'd never make it out of Indiana with a car that belongs to his father.
Then Will Beyers goes missing. Then Barbara Holland dies. Then his gets his heart broken. Then he meets his best friend. Then he meets his soul mate. Then and then and then.
But the duffle bag is still sitting in the back of his closet. He takes it out, re-packs his clothes, counts the cash, replaces the shoes with something sturdier.
Then he falls in love with a man wanted for murder. A man only safe for as long as the hospital keeps him as a patient. And it's an easy decision—one he's been wanting to make for so, so long—for much more selfish, lonely reasons.
So he takes the truck keys from Wayne, and he sneaks into the hospital after midnight. They're across the county line before the hour is up, his duffle bag hidden under the passenger seat now, this time with Eddie's bookbag stuffed alongside it.

trekkies tag the character from the franchise that you don’t really love. you can hate them with a passion, you can mildly dislike them, but the feeling has to be irrational and not based on something super justifiable. you just don’t like the cut of their jib.
More on TBDATE (spoilers)
That part with Mateo and Rufus imagining a future together kills me.
(I guess that’s the point, it’s so tragic that they could’ve been so much more but their paths ended there, so we can learn to not waste all these “could’ve been"s
