I should make more Doctor Who fanarts

when your art program’s closing message hits you straight in the heart and makes you stop and contemplate the state of it all

WIP ~ regency belle
At the gate for my flight home from visiting friends and there's a woman here with a service Shiba Inu. No pics because he has a Do Not Disturb vest and taking pics of strangers is illegal but I need to stress how ON DUTY this animal is. Ears up. Eyes doing Lazer scans of everything. Examining everyone who passes within 10ft like a security guard. Ass planted on her feet. I have never seen a dog with such intense chivalric guardian energy before. He has tiny eyebrows and they are FURROWED with concentration.

Luz drawing I recently did (cuz she is the main character and she’s an amazing character).
SW REBELS-GRAVITY FALLS AU
I'm not sure if these fandoms have any overlap but I've been having so many thoughts about a Gravity Falls + Star Wars Rebels AU ... Like I've seen a handful of SW AUs already but SPECIFICALLY Rebels. Because that's the one piece of SW media I've consistantly hyperfixated on. Brainstorming nonsense under the cut
Dipper and Mabel would take over Ezra's role. Dipper would obviously be force-sensitive, but I'm back and forth on whether Mabel would be force-sensitive or more of a Sabine-type with the gadgets.
Stan would obviously be Kanan, with the rest of the mystery crew taking over the various members of the Ghost Crew. Obviously it's all familial and the Wendy-crush subplot does not exist. She'd probably end up more like a Hera figure to Dipper, someone who looks out for him and he really looks up to. (Obviously the relationships and characters are not one-to-one. Kanan-Stan is a single father)
Anyways, I really like the idea of Dipper and Mabel only having each other in the galaxy, having no idea about their heritage or the bigger things at play. Stan would obviously take them in, teach them about the Jedi and show them the galaxy.
I have a handful of ideas that could tie Ford into the story. He could potentially either be this world's Anakin (since Ezra is meant to be a specific parallel to Anakin and learned how to use a lightsaber by watching him fight) or potentially a Maul-type???
ANYWAYS!!!!!! Ford is absolutely going to be the antagonist, because corrupted Ezra is something that I've always explored in all of my fics and I think it would be really cool to see how Dipper handles that. Also evil Ford is hot as fuck. Ford is probably going to be some amalgamation of Anakin and Maul, because I think there's a lot of merit in Maul and Ezra's relationship.
Ford and Stan could obviously have that sort of Anakin-Obi Wan or even Vader-Ahsoka rivalry, if we're still talking Rebels. Obviously if I chose to include Bill in this he could be a Palpatine-type. Queue the Ford-Dipper apprenticeship corruption arc and Mabel learning her true potential alongside Stan ^_^
Obviously I've got many many more ideas, but until I solidify everyone's roles in the story it's a little tricky doing anything more than just hypotheticals. BUT YEAH!! Please tell me there are GF fans that have even seen Rebels because this is all I'm gonna be talking about for a little while. Looks around.

i really like it but then i realise i dont know COLOR AND I GOT LIKE

ok a followup from my irony post: one of the things i love most about steve rogers as seen in the mcu is that he doesn’t do the thing that ‘feels right’ or looks most virtuous or american or whatever, he’s not sentimental, he knows what hell is like because he has been there and it’s called the western front. he grew up sick and poor and irish catholic when there was no kindness for those things in the american narrative, he is not the kind of guy who thinks everything will turn out okay if you just believe in yourself.
he doesn’t do what he feels is the right thing, he does what he decides is the right thing. and sometimes it feels terrible, and has terrible consequences. at no point in ‘civil war’, for instance, does he seem to think his decision is The Right Choice and tony’s is Wrong. he knows there was no right answer, only two wrong ones, and he picked the one he could live with. and people bled for it.
i wouldn’t say he’s a ‘logic’ character, he’s not that trope, but he is secretly, subtly, ruthlessly thoughtful.
so when he does something like, say, become a fugitive from the entire world within minutes of hearing there’s a shoot-first order out on bucky, it’s not that blind emotional panic that drives so many heroes. it’s as cold and unstoppable as a glacier.
an emotionally driven hero has, inherently, a sense of entitlement about the outcome of their choices. if you believe in your friends, if you tell the truth when you ought to lie, if you refuse to take the kill shot because heroes don’t kill, things will definitely turn out okay in the end somehow. and of course the narrative always supports this, because that’s the genre, that’s the trope set. there’s no room for a counterpoint in their universe.
and then there’s captain fucking america.
look, i’m sleep-deprived and haven’t planned this post out at all so it’s probably kind of a mess, but what i’m getting at here is that the ‘golden boy’ of superheroes, the star spangled man with a plan, this corny, schmaltzy, old-timey character, isn’t light because the darkness hasn’t touched him. he’s light because he set his jaw and marched into the darkness and he set it the fuck on fire.
tl;dr i love steve rogers a lot the end.

What advice would you give women struggling to find their self-worth?

In the last 10 years, I have watched as women in this industry are criticized and measured up to each other and picked at for their bodies, their romantic lives, their fashion, or have you ever heard someone say about a male artist, I really like his songs but I don’t know what it is, there’s just something about him I don’t like? No! That criticism is reserved for us! But you know…
Two Hundred Fifty Things an Architect Should Know

1. The feel of cool marble under bare feet. 2. How to live in a small room with five strangers for six months. 3. With the same strangers in a lifeboat for one week. 4. The modulus of rupture. 5. The distance a shout carries in the city. 6. The distance of a whisper. 7. Everything possible about Hatshepsut’s temple (try not to see it as ‘modernist’ avant la lettre).

it is my professional opinion that teaching young musicians, especially string players, to play mainstream music like rock, pop, musical theatre, country, jazz, and film is just as important as teaching them to play symphonies, concertos, and sonatas. Learning to play a cello arrangement of the Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby” was just as influential in my musical development as learning a Bach suite.
Jazz teaches improvisation skills, and introduces students to extended chords and harmonies. It also uses swing eighth rhythms, which is challenging to players who are used to straight eights in classical music.
Rock and pop music use lots of syncopation and teaches how to feel the offbeat and how use this feeling to lock-in rhythmically with the other players. These genres also influence the music of musical theatre.
Country has it’s roots in the music of Appalachian fiddle music, which uses techniques that classical violinists don’t use.
Not to mention, the racial disparity between the music of classical Western tradition and popular music from the 20th century makes it blantantly obvious that we’re supposed to believe that European art music is superior to other types of music. How can we fairly say that Bach is one of, if not the greatest composer who ever lived when the likes of Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis and even Michael Jackson have all changed the game? Bach’s music all sounds like it wants to sell me the new Nissan Altima, but sure, he’s the musical genius.
I’ve noticed that band programs don’t have this culture of elitism as much as orchestra programs do. Most schools in the US have a marching band program, and the music they play is popular music. the show for this season at my school was Beach Boys, and next year’s is 80s. Band kids also have the option of joining jazz band, and still get to learn classical repertoire in concert band.
Orchestra, on the other hand, has a reputation for being full of pretentious, classically trained since birth, uppity snobs who look down upon music of the masses. The only “real” music is music from dead European guys who lived between 1650-1900. But you know what? The music that got us the most excited and most interested in playing was always arrangements of popular music.
Orchestra kids are so hungry for new and exciting music. I played Mozart’s Symphony 25 every goddamn year in high school. By senior year I could play it memorized. I was so tired of playing the same old shit, and I know kids today are too. We don’t get the same opportunity to be exposed to new music like band kids. I got told that wanting to play musical theatre was “an unrealistic career” and to “not waste my time trying” by my high school orchestra director. He also said that learning to play the Beatles’ on my cello was “not worthy of performance, unprofessional, and a waste of talent.” This kind of condescension of popular music is rampant in orchestra culture.
We need to end this dichotomy between classical music and popular music. both are good, both can teach students the skills they need to be proficient on their instruments. Teaching one without teaching the other does not a well-rounded musician make.

practising backgrounds so i tried a monopoly mountain drawing? idk how to feel about this, landscapes are defo not my forte, but anyways!

Something I love about the Dick bats era is the Dick, Damian, Steph trio and I love it when DC show it even subtly.

During the few Batfamily meet ups before the reboot these three always stood close together Damian is always by Dick’s side but Steph is either next to Barbara or with them reflecting some of her most important relationships in her identity as Batgirl which I think is very neat.

Love should be a choice. Affection should not. We shouldn’t be able to control it, we shouldn’t even attempt to, it’s disloyal either to our hearts or the hearts of others to try. It was never meant to be something to give or withdraw as a reward or a punishment. I would go so far as to say that if you can control it that is probably because it’s not it at all. Affection is like rain, when it comes it comes, it bursts open our hearts and is a great maker of change. Affection should run free and fall on worthy and unworthy objects alike. It is not love, it’s only one of the components of love, but it is consistently the one thing about love that can blind or mislead us. Affection alone, without everything that love is and entails, is only attachment and that is a curse. Like a wild horse running into oblivion dragging everything in its wake. Inevitably it turns into obsession twisting and warping the world into an alternate reality in which not a single truth remains. It can obscure our souls into a darkness we might never find an exit from, one that not only conceals others from us but can even make us invisible to ourselves. We often forget we can drown in rain… Love is much more than this. Love isn’t a single emotion it isn’t even a combination of emotions. It is an attitude, it has a source a function and a purpose, Love is something as much of the heart as of the mind. Above all it is something of the soul. It can be objectless and exist, it depends on nothing but our own will. Our will to live is at the same time its nourishment and wellspring. Love is our name when we have none. When love finds an object it learns everything there is to know about it the better to fulfill its purpose, to serve. To achieve “…the loved person’s ultimate good as far as it can be obtained”. A conscious thought that rallies our every faculty into a single purpose, love in motion is a constant awareness of a soul besides our own its hourly needs and ultimate goals. Instead of obscuring or confusing it reveals and explains. Truth sharpens reality, it softens nothing in either ourselves or the other, we experience reality like never before. This is when we learn to be kind and to move softly. This is when we realize that if we do not act we do not love. It is an unavoidable fact, the only insurmountable obstacle to love. Love should be a choice, a thoughtful, deliberate, passionate and courageous string of small deeds towards life. Anything less does not merit the name.
