This is about Thersites by the way.

Everyone else mentioned in the pre-story character list had their rank and important relations listed, but Thersites was none so lucky.

Agamemnon, son of Atreus; king of Argos and Mycenae; leader of the host.

Achilles, son of Peleus and the sea nymph Thetis, grandson of Aeacus, son of Zeus; chief of the Myrmidons from Phthia and Hellas.

Odysseus (Ulysses), son of Laertes and husband of Penelope; king of Ithaca and leader of the Cephallenians.

Diomedes, son of Tydeus and grandson of Oeneus; king of Middle Argos, Tiryns and Aegina.

Patroclus, son of Menoetius; comrade and squire of Achilles.

Thersites, ugliest of the Greek soldiers; an endless talker.

My guy. My man. Sirs. He's just a guy. He's poor, he has scoliosis and he speaks out against Agamemnon, why must you be so cruel?

Has he no family? For all we know he was born of a rotting broken bone, who is this man's father? Why is he even mentioned here if all you can tell us is that he talks a lot and isn't pretty?

He doesn't even talk that much! He talks a pretty normal amount for the always very long speeches that every single soldier gives. It's wordy, but everyone is wordy, he isn't special. He isn't rambling, he's just speaking 'out of place'.

Not to mention that once you get to him in the actual story, Odysseus beats and belittles him publicly. What the fuck, man, he's just a guy! A little guy! Be nice to him!

Funny idea I'm just going to jot down here for future musing.

What if, after having been a god for awhile, Diomedes decides he wants to be mortal again so he can die and join his friends in the underworld. He's granted this request and lives on earth as a mortal for a little while before dying a natural death. Upon which he immediately finds himself not in the underworld like he expected, but instead finds himself in a weird unknown place on fire next to a bewildered Odysseus.

♡ reblog ♡ meme dionysus hermes tagged commentary 😂😂😂 it's not very accurate and is clearly focused on Jesus but it's funny and I love that we were tagged I have no idea what Hermes is doing there (not saying he shouldn't be but I am definitely unfamiliar with the possible references) And I don't know the other ones. But I can talk about Dionysus. He was definitely not born of a virgin. His parents (Zeus and Semele) were in a relationship and having sex. However he was born abnormally (Zeus vaporised Semele with his true form and then sewed fetus Dionysus to his leg to finish maturing). Wandering miracle worker doesn't not make sense. He was a mortal demigod at first and later ascended not only to full godhood but to Olympus Though afaik his wandering work was mostly wine and he wasn't really a miracle worker like Jesus. Magic was involved but not for good Not necessarily for bad but like. Not for good. yk. Crucified. I mean that's a specific way to die like getting hung or beheaded and I'm pretty sure that did Not happen to him. Or buried. He has themes of death and rebirth (particularly from Orphism and other older versions) because of the death of his mother... ...and also because Hera had him torn apart and eaten by the gods but Athena saved his heart to be reborn again. (Which is a completely separate origin story I believe as iirc Athena put the heart into Semele therefore she must have been alive during... ...and after Dionysus' full term). In any sense if he was crucified or at all buried then we certainly aren't familiar with the story. Also nothing about 'three days later' in particular or a simple straightforward ressurection that we know of either. And he ascended to the heavens (Mount Olympus) when he became a full god and an Olympian but the concept of 'heaven' in Hellenism is vastly different from the Abrahamic concept of Heaven. Even more different than Hades/The Underworld and Hell. Still though I very much enjoy having been tagged. Thank you Phoenix /g /vpos queued {{it/he/they/any/god/wine}} date — 5 September 2024

Riordanverse fictive culture is, there's a Hermes^ in this system... he's from a different Greek mythology modern adaptation, he's not my dad, but I am definitely going to have very complicated feelings about him...

Also though why do we look and act so similar. I mean appearance wise he looks like a pretty commonly accepted idea (blond hair, blue eyes) and it's the idea that I look like, although he's more often depicted as a brunet (which is just confusing to us).

But behaviour? He formed before we read my source. He never got to read my source. He's the one who decided to read it but he was gone before we were able to get our hands on the series. And his source is... very different. He's canon-divergent yet he became a lot like me. Less evil but still very similar.

That isn't going to help things.
