Jaster Mereel - Tumblr Posts
Its good he can have both because that was also my first thought, except with those thin brownie bar with the line in the middle and sprinkles on top instead of twinkies.
i love the interpretations of jaster mereel. hes a nerd. hes a jock. he has elaborate plans to break into the jedi archives but theres an evil witch who lives there and she has the spell gun. he wrote the supercommando codex which has evolved from "how to be a hired mercenary without being a raging dickhead" to the very base standards of mando society. he has a man with a hate boner for him and you will see his scathing peer review personally and preferably full of holes. he has a pacifist sect trying to blow him up with their minds. he has his best friend trying to actually blow him up but keeps looney tooning his way into failure every time. hes the most aesexual whore to ever whore. he keeps bringing home ankle biters. he was a cop who killed another cop because that cop was crooked and well if no one else was going to fix it then he will permanently. he probably has a doctorate for every past mand'alor regime. hes eaten things that werent meant to be eaten because he read it in a book once. he probably has an entire library of random trivia in his brain and will tell you one without prompt. hes adhd. hes the epitome of that meme with the dog gazing worryingly at a mini pineapple. hes been banned from 14 sectors because he knew law loopholes before they could even loop. his enemies want him both carnally and dead. his friends want him to stop hiding in the rafters at night reading in the dark so all they see is the light reflecting off his eyes like a cat when they pan their flashlights up and scaring the newbies. he would be classified as a cryptid if he wasnt on the mandalore sectors most eligible bachelor list. he probably has cake under that armor.
oh mannnnnnn u ever think abt in open seasons when jango implied ominously that boba was gonna be jaster's legacy. and u think for a second oh is he gonna train him to reclaim the mand'alor title?
then he proceeded to raise boba in a loving and protected environment. and passed all his knowledge on how to best protect himself against all their enemies. oh man that shit just slaps
like jaster's legacy is protecting people
I'm not really sure who the "True Mandalorians" are, but they cannot be the good guys.
Like. Imagine a political party called "The True Americans/British/French/Chinese/whatever". YOU'D KNOW THEY WERE FASCISTS JUST BASED ON THE NAME.
At the very least, they're a walking "no true Scottsman" fallacy.
Mmmm not quite.
Ironically, the True Mandalorians are basically centrists, by Mando standards. They aren't revolutionary pacifists like the New Mandalorians, but they aren't hardline traditionalists of the 'we need to take over everything and bring back our warlord glories' Death Watch variety.
"…the Mandalorians fractured, giving rise to a chaotic splinter group. They called themselves the 'Death Watch' and followed a barbarian called Vizsla, who believed that the Mandalorians should conquer the galaxy. Vizsla orchestrated a bloody coup against the True Mandalorians, still loyal to a reformed murderer named Jaster Mereel, who held that the Mandalorians were merely highly paid soldiers."
- Count Dooku
Jaster (the man who founded this True Mandalorian political faction) was known as 'The Reformer' due to his attempts to revise Mandalorian warrior culture to be more honorable than the slave-taking, genocidal history they have. I wouldn't call him actively anti-fascist, mostly because he didn't seem to have concerned himself overly much with large-scale government at all, but his political beliefs and attempts to change himself and traditional society definitely weren't fascist. Death Watch, who were very fascist, actively hated him for this.
While I can't find any evidence of True Mandalorians calling themselves 'Haat Mando'ade,' I don't think it's too big of a leap to think that they did when not interacting with people who spoke only Basic. As such, it follows that the way their language works probably had influence on the wording they chose.
The reading I take for the "true" part of that title is a little less "we're the REAL deal and the rest of you suck," and rather more like... 'in pursuit of an ideal.'
A traditional Mando phrase in Legends is "Haat, Ijaa, Haa'it" - "Truth, Honor, Vision"—said when sealing a pact. Other usages of the term haat also seem to have more to do with true in the sense of truth, rather than in the sense of purity.
With the way that Jaster's ideals are portrayed in the oblique sense, it seems most reasonable to say that they mean 'true' as in 'trustworthy, honorable, determined,' the way an old fairytale may use a phrase like 'gallant and true' to describe a knight. It's not fascist, just... flowery and evocative of what they want to be, in comparison to what their people used to be.
Jon, Jaster and young Jango and Arla from trade your heart for bones to know by magnificent @blackkatmagic
Also half a reason I've stumbled out of very long art block and into Star Wars Hell and Heaven.
I’m 90% sure the thing that pissed off Tor was just Jaster saying “colonialism is bad actually.” Seeing as a history buff like Jaster would know about the Neo Crusaders and probably look at the consequences of their actions and go “hmm. maybe we should not repeat that”. Especially with the Dral’han having happened because the republic decide Malachor V was Not Enough. Also, I suspect he might object to murdering civilians the way the Neo Crusaders did.
Within the codex I do think there would be some mention of placing Honor long before Glory, as well as explicitly referencing the Neo Crusaders and their actions as an example of why it’s important to do so. Tor is likely marketing Deathwatch as sort of heirs to the Neo Crusaders so. That’d be enough to piss him off. Jaster also likely wrote specific prohibition of stealing kids to indoctrinate them like the Neo Crusaders did, and Deathwatch canonically does. Adoption is fine, kidnapping is Not. Pretending Kidnapping is adoption would likely be considered a serious crime by the codex.
The Codex would also likely place a lot of value on civilian professions since Jaster is from Concord Dawn, a largely agricultural world and was probably raised as a farmer first and a warrior second himself. Tor, however, is from the Mandalorian equivalent of nobility and has no concept of just how important non-combatants are to a society, and is mad at them being considered equal to warriors in the codex.
Tor’s ultimate goal seems to be holding a mandalorian empire, essentially, with similar tactics to those the Neo Crusaders used. Jaster’s goals seem to be more about the survival of his people and culture.
Tor wants the galaxy to bend to his idea of what Mandalorians should be. He wanted glory without caring about honor. Jaster wanted his people to live by their own definition, so long as they don’t harm their people. He wanted honor with caring about glory.
Side note: I think he was very upset that Cassus Fett’s descendants did not side with him, seeing as Cassus was the primary strategist and one of the major leaders of the Neo Crusaders. Tor would likely have expected them to want to return to their families glory days rather than, you know, be happy just being farmers. And that’s part of why he took Arla, to try and make her his Cassus Fett
I’m very sorry this is a whole essay :’)
I’m aware I am Very Late To The Thread
so what does everybody think the supercommando codex actually Said. give me your novellas on the topic
new mandalorians and death watch both successfully erase true mandalorians from history but every time either faction does anything politically unpopular the local holonet is flooded with vaguely ironic “here’s how jaster can still win” memes and that’s TMs’ entire lasting legacy within mandalorian space
dads² and the thrilling bonking saga

Jocasta Nu built her lightsaber rifle specifically to deter Jaster Mereel from breaking into her Archives
unfortunately, this scheme backfired, as he only became more determined to see the lightsaber rifle
Jaster Mereel, holorecording: Greetings, Exalted One. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Jaster Mereel, Mand'alor and humble student of history. I know that you are powerful, mighty Master Nu, and that your anger with my people must be equally powerful. I seek an audience with Your Greatness to bargain for entrance into your Jedi Archives. With your wisdom, I'm sure that we can work out an arrangement which will be mutually beneficial and enable us to avoid any unpleasant confrontation. As a token of my goodwill, I present to you a gift: these two historical jetii'kade from my own Keldabe Archives, along with their provenances. Both are in working condition and will serve you well. Jocasta Nu: oh neat, free grad student!
Im so happy that i found this. On one hand i wanna read it so bad, but on the other hand i have a mind of doing my own version of this and dont wanna accidentally plagarize this GLORIOUS person. The moral dilemma of fictional academic nerdery.

Jaster and Boba
Hi, yes. Guess who forgot to post the sketches until now.
Me
Anyways. Yes.
Nimona AU. Lots of potential for whoever you wanna toss into the roles. I started with Jango/Obi-wan (I may doodle more, but y'never know.)
If you want to scream at me over au ideas, please do. I will make a disc if prompted just for this. (Maybe)
If you look at the tags... :)
Allow me to explain my thoughts process:
The Queen King
Qui-gon Jinn or Jaster (depending who's Bal and Ambros)
The Director and Todd
Palps looks weird as hell as always.
Todd... Tarkin.. Toddkin... Tarodd..
Whatever, these two can kiss my shebs.
Ballister/Ambrosius - Obi-wan
You know at some point in negotiations he's made the face.
Ballister/Ambrosius - Jango
I was lazy also screw armor. Only one doodle.
Got stuck on Nimona, but (s)Maul was definitely an idea for sillies. Dunno. Could be Anakin, or anyone. Go wild. Hand didn't want to draw human Maul.
