“You know my brother’s gonna flip, right?” Wil said as he entered the hospital room seeing Y/n there wasn’t to much of an unusual sight. But she was there a lot less often then his own brother. He knew Jay would flip out once he heard she was here for any reason. So would her brother.
“Yeah, so is mine.” Y/n let out an unamused laugh.
“Your gonna have 2 men to deal with. Sucks to be you.” Will smirked teasing her.
“Jackass.” she responded and they both broke out into laughter. It was nice to be good friends with her boyfriend's brother. The two ended up getting to joke around a bit longer before the door to the room opened. Upon seeing who had opened the door, Will took that as his queue to leave.
“What were you thinking?!” Jay yelled as he entered the room, Kelly following not far behind.
“I’m guessing you told him what happened?” Y/n asked tilting her head to the side looking at her brother.
Kelly shrugged his shoulders. “He was gonna find out sooner or later.”
“Why would you risk your life like that?” Jay scolded her crossing his arms over his chest.
“Hey-” Kelly raised his voice cutting Jay off before he could scold his sister anymore for doing her job. “As much as I hate it to Halstead. She saved a young girl’s life, and your one to talk about life risking stuff.”
It was silent for a few minutes but Jay did stop. He couldn’t argue he got hurt way more than Y/n did. She did save a life.
“Hey Kelly, can you give us a minute?” Y/n aksed licking her dry lips.
“Yeah, Y/n/n.” Kelly nodded, he understood there was a conversation that needed to be had between the couple. “I’ll go get you a drink, okay?”
“Hmmmhmmm, thanks.” Y/n smiled gratefully to her brother.
“y/n-” Jay went to start after Kelly left the room but Y/n cut him off.
“No, Jay. I watch you get shot and beat up all the time. More than I and I’m sure Will would like. This.” Y/n gestured with her hands across her body. “This is nothing. Hell, I even get to be discharged tonight and back to work next shift.”
Jay listened till she was done. He knew he overreacted but it scared him that he could have lost her in the blink of an eye. “I know, I know. I just don’t like seeing you hurt.”
“I don’t like seeing you hurt but that’s practically a weekly thing.” Y/n stated, she understood Jay’s feelings completely. But it doesn’t change the facts. They have dangerous jobs getting hurt happens. Y/n let out a sigh looking down at her hands in her lap as Jay moved to sit in the chair next to her hospital bed. “I saved a young girl's life. I don’t regret it. I know you love what you do and I support it but…”
“I can’t be a Hippocratic?” Jay finished smiling at her.
“No offense.” Y/n dropped her head to the side smiling back at him.
“None taken.” he shook his head, dismissing the form of apologies. “I’m sorry I got mad at you. I just worry about you.”
Y/n reached out, grabbing his hand and intertwining their fingers together. “An I appreciate it. But we both have dangerous jobs. I promise if it was something serious-”
Jay nodded in understanding. “I know. Me too.”
“Is it safe?”Kelly asked as he popped his head through the door after opening it. He could tell by the lifted mood in the room that they had worked out their little issue.
“Yeah, it’s safe. You know Kel I find it off-ly convent that you decide to happily fill in Jay when I happen to be hurt.” Y/n smirked at her older brother.
“More people to watch over you the better.” Kelly shrugged his shoulder smiling guiltily. Jay couldn’t agree with the lieutenant more.

“Oh come on! I can shoot better then that!, Halstead!”
“Prove it then, (Y/L/N)! Close your eyes and only shoot when I tell you too.”
With a smirk on your face, you reload your gun and aim it at the ground. As you look at your best friend, a mischevious grin is pointed towards you, only feeding the flame. You stick your tongue out before looking at the new target being loaded, feeling your eyes flutter close.
Breathe in.
Your finger slowly slips into it’s place in front of the trigger, adding just the tiniest amount fo pressure.
“Now!”
Opening your eyes and lifting your arms at the same time, you exhale, aim, and fire. As you lower your gun, you’re met with the results you had expected. A direct hit to the head of the target. Turning to Jay, you grin and lay the gun down.
“Better luck next time,” you say, mimicking his michevious grin he once had.
Before he can fire back, both of your phones go off at the same time. Pulling yours out, you find that Voight had assigned you to a case that was taking place at Med.
“Duty calls,” Jay says to you.

“Dr. Rhodes,” you say with a smirk. “We meet again.”
“Yes, we really must stop running into each other like this. I clean up much better then this.” he replies with a similar, flirtatious smirk.
“I’ll take your word for it,”
“What do you know about the victim?” Jay quickly interrupts, a tense aura radiating off of him at your flirting. It left a weird feeling at the pit of your stomach.
“We found her outside of Med,” Connor explains as he takes you both to the victim’s room. “She has blunt force trauma to the ribs and hips, bruising pretty much everywhere on her body. I need to take her to surgery to put plates on some of her broken ribs. There is trauma to her uterus and cervix, which leads me to conclude that she was being sexually abused and trafficked.”
“Poor girl,” you whisper softly.
“Can we talk to her?” Jay asks.
“Maybe it’s best if (Y/N) goes first, she’s only comfortable around women at the moment.”
With a simple nod, you walk into the room and close the curtain, offering the fragile girl any privacy she may have left. Before you can even begin to ask questions, the tattoo on her wrist reveals it all to you. A viper around a cross, the tag of Chicago’s most known sex trafficker.
“Hi, I’m Detective (Y/L/N), I’m part of the Chicago PD.” you explain softly.
“Are you here to stop him?” a tiny voice erupts from the pile of limbs and blankets in front of you.
“Do you mean Quentin Diaz?”
The girl slowly shifts towards you, revealing a broken, battered face clouded by a mask of tears. She slowly nods, her entire body vibrating at the very mention of his name.
“Yes, I’m here to stop him. But first, I need you to tell me everything you know about him.”
-~-
You stand in the bull pen, looking at the sprawling board in front of you as the team tries to make sense of the wild goose chase Diaz has you on.
“He was last scene dumping our Jane Doe by Med, any ideas to why he could be there?” Voight asks, leaning against a desk.
“Maybe a trade for a better girl, or even just to dump her?” Jay says.
“No,” you interject. “Diaz and his men, they own their women until they die. A dumping or a trade wouldn’t make sense. This sounds like they were using Jane Doe as bait.”
“Then that means they must have some kind of hide out or base nearby.” Jay says.
“Alright, I want every unlicensed or abandoned building flagged and remotely searched for suspicious activity. Halstead and (Y/L/N), you’ll case any that seem like a hit. The rest of you, try to find any consistencies between the cases.”
You and Jay nod before quickly leaving the bull pen and heading outside. Jumping into Jay’s truck, you quickly load up a building you know on your phone’s map.
“Already have a place in mind?” he asks.
“Yeah, this place always seemed to suspicious to be abandoned.”
“Let’s check it out then,”
Jay drives through the packed Chicago streets towards the building. Once he parked outside the building, a familiar face had already popped up. You immediately call Voight, his gruff voice amplified by being on speaker phone, but your thankful for the distraction of Jay looking towards you.
“We spotted Quentin outside of the building on Cherry and Mohawk. I think we found his hiding spot.”
“Both of you, get as close as you can to the building without raising suspicion. I need to know a way into that building with a clear shot.”
“Yes sir,”
Hanging up on Voight, you quickly hide your badge in your belt, your gun in your waistband and put on your coat and beanie. Jay mimics your movements and quickly gets out of the car. With a shaky breath you prepare yourself for what’s coming.
“You okay, (Y/N)?” Jay asks from beside you, worry and suspicion drawing his eyebrows downwards.
“Always,” you whisper with the fakest smile you can plaster on.
Just the smallest glace at his face and you know your reply has left him unconvinced. Nevertheless, he wraps his arm around your shoulder and holds you close to him. Shakily, you reach up and hold the hand that is slacked around you and smile.
“So what should we have for lunch, babe?” Jay says to you.
That word hits you like a punch to the gut.
“You know I’m not that picky,” you reply with a smirk.
Both of you cross the street, goofy smiles and small sounds of chatter along with laughter acting like a shield to the reality of your act. But still, you lose yourself in the moment. Pretending that for a while, Jay was actually yours. That he felt this way about you and that this was your life.
The mirage is quickly interrupted when you spot Quentin walking straight towards you, his head pointed half to the ground but just enough to see your faces.
“Baby, don’t look now but I think that’s your favorite celebrity.” you whisper.
The secret code word between you two alerts Jay to Quentin’s presence. His speedy pace towards you fills your veins with adrenaline, ready to run, shoot, or fight at any moment.
“Nah, I have my favorite celebrity in my arms right here.” he says with a smirk.
Quentin gets way too close for your liking. You go to pull Jay into a hug to hide your faces, but he chooses a different method. Pulling his arm off your shoulder, he cups your face in his hands and kisses you.
The mission fades from your mind, the looming threat no longer a worry. All you can think of are how soft his lips are, how calloused his hand are right where he holds his gun so tight. Without a second thought, your hands find their home on his chest, and your lips dance the same steps as his.
When he pulls away, uncontrollable tears spring to your eyes, no matter how hard you push them away. You take a step away from Jay and quickly case the building. Simple back entry accessible from the alley way and a broken window you or Jay could easily shoot from.
“Woah, (Y/N) what’s wrong?” Jay says as he notes the unshed tears in your eyes.
“Nothing,” you brush off. “it’s just the cold air.”
Pulling your phone out, you call Voight about your findings, Jay’s eyes filled with more worry and confusion then before.
“Alright, get your asses back here and suit up. We have a plan.”

Here’s the plan. Burgess and Ruzek had gotten in contact with one of Quentin’s sellers. Jay would go undercover as a buyer, inquiring about buying one of the girls. He was to talk to Quentin about the specific Jane Doe to try and locate the rest of the girls that the trafficker had hidden. Once there was enough information, Jay would position Quentin into a specific spot where you could knock him with a bullet.
That’s where you were stationed now, watching as Jay spoke with Quentin, his hands in his pockets. You trailed the duo through the scope of your sniper, watching each step with your finger ready to fire. Suddenly, you see Quentin reach behind him and pull a gun on Jay. He had been compromised. Only problem was, Jay was in front of Quentin, blocking your shot.
“(Y/L/N), do you have a clear shot?” Voight’s voice echoes in your ear.
“Almost, I just need Jay to move a little bit to the left.”
“No, it’s too risky, don’t take the shot. Do you hear me, (Y/L/N)? Do not take that shot!”
Quentin steps closer to Jay, shakily adding pressure to the trigger of his own gun.
“Sir! He’s going to fire on Jay, this is my only chance!” you say into your comms.
You inhale, your finger slowly beginning to add pressure to the trigger. A sigh reverberates in your ear.
“Do it.”
Jay moves to the side just in time for you to exhale, sending a bullet narrowly close to Jay’s head but a dead hit in Quentin’s shoulder. The offender is shot to the floor, sending blood everywhere, and Jay quickly disarms him before holding pressure to the wound.
You quickly pack up your gun and make your way down to the scene. By the time you arrive, Quentin is being loaded into an ambulance with cuffs on his wrists. Laying your case into a squad car, you spot Jay exiting the building. However, when his eyes meet yours. it’s obvious he’s ticked. Storming over to you, he runs a hand through his hair.
“Do you know what you did in there! He was going to give me all the locations of his girls but you shot him!”
“He was just going to kill you after telling you, Jay! I couldn’t let him do that! Voight told me to take the opportunity I had!”
“Yeah well dying is part of the job description. You got lucky, (Y/L/N). One inch off and it would have been me in that ambulance...”
“So what? You don’t trust my shot anymore?”
“I don’t trust your judgement to keep your feelings out of our work!”
That was the last straw. You hide your tears and rip off your bulletproof vest, shoving it into Halstead’s chest as your glare daggers at him.
“Don’t expect me home tonight,”
And with that, you walk away. Little did you know, the minute those words left Jay’s mouth he was filled with regret. He had hurt the woman he loves the most.
-~-
“Didn’t expect to see you here tonight, (Y/N).” a familiar voice says from beside you.
Gently slamming the whiskey glass to the bar’s top, you look to see Connor seated beside you fresh from a shift at Med. With a soft, slightly tipsy smile, you wave down the bartender and order a drink for both of you.
“It was a hard case tonight,” you reply.
“Was it the case that was hard or the guy you had to work with?”
You both take a drink of the hard liquor at the same time, a soft sigh ghosting your lips. Connor and you were friends with benefits, especially after you were hurt by your perspective partners. When Jay told you about him and Erin, you fell into the handsome doctor’s arms. When Robin left Connor to go home, you had to help him sneak out of you and Jay’s apartment the next morning. After Jay asked you about the ring he picked out for Erin, you helped christen Connor’s new apartment. After Ava killed herself in front of him and Jay had pushed you away because of his heartbreak, you and Connor practically didn’t speak for a week. Just sex.
Because of your many encounters, both of you had grown close as friends. Both of you knew each other’s work and romantic hardships. Without the sex, you guys were close drinking buddies. The bed hopping was an added bonus. A release of anger and frustration from your perspective situations.
“He kinda made it clear tonight how he felt,” you reply, taking another long sip of the burning liquid.
“Yeah, that always sucks,”
“Says you! You’re nothing but a chick magnet!”
“Hey! I’ve had my fair share of losses,”
Both of you end up in a fit of laughter, sharing drink after drink as the night goes on. Eventually, as the bar begins to close, you find yourself riding to his apartment in his Porsche. His lips upon yours in a drunken frenzy. Your naked selves tangled in his sheets as you sleep the night away.
-~-
The smell of fresh coffee and scrambled eggs battles the killer hangover headache that greets you when your eyes open up. Where Connor always slept is empty, but he had laid one of his shirts there for you to wear when your body decided it was time to fight your hangover. With a soft smirk, you put it on and walk out to Connor’s kitchen.
“Thank god for days off,” you say as you grab a mug from the cupboard.
“No such luck for me, I got a surgery in an hour.” Connor replies as he finishes cooking.
“Damn, what a shame.” you say as you steal a piece of cheese from beside Connor, earning a slap on the hand and a smirk.
“Hey! That’s meant to go in the eggs, not your mouth.”
“There are a lot of things that can go in my mouth, Dr. Rhodes” you say with a wink.
A knock on the door reverberates in the semi - empty apartment as Connor hands you the plate of eggs. He walks out to answer it, leaving you to eat and enjoy the gracious sip of coffee. Your little moment is interrupted when you hear Jay’s voice raising.
Quickly putting your meal down, you rush over to the front door. Jay hasn’t changed from last night but to you, that didn’t matter. He still made the feeling of butterflies rise into your stomach.
“What are you doing here?” you ask as you back Connor away from the door.
“You weren’t answering my calls or texts, I thought something had happened,” he replies, not noticing Connor’s shirt on you.
“Yeah, you being a dick happened, Jay.”
“Look, I’m sorry, (Y/N).”
That’s when he notices Connor’s shirt on you, the hickies from last nights events making anger fill his eyes.
“But I can see you had other plans...” he growls.
“What does it matter to you who I sleep with?! Jay for fucks sake, ever since Erin left you act like you own me! But you don’t! You chose her over me!”
Tears fill your eyes as realization fills his.
“I’ll pick up what I need from the apartment later on. I can’t do this anymore, Halstead.”
You slam the door as tears race down your face like race cars on a track. Holding a hand on your mouth, you muffle your cries as your free hand holds onto your torso. Gently, Connor pulls you into a hug, giving you the comfort you needed but from the wrong guy.
“I’ll help you get what you need and you can crash with me.”
With a soft nod, you wrap your arms around him tightly.
Not once had you missed a shot in the past 10 years. But here you were.
You had missed your shot with Jay.

Prologue - Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 4 - Part 5 (finale)
2 weeks. It had been 2 weeks since you had left Jay’s apartment and crashed at Connor’s. Things at the station hadn’t been the same with you and Jay at odds. You still kept things civil, but every time you both left from work, Halstead would give you a piece of his mind. Why you shouldn’t be staying with Connor. Why you should just come back home. He would almost have you convinced, but you knew him too well. Jay would always hold something back and you could tell. What you mistook as his arrogance against apologizing was him holding back from saying those three little words. Nevertheless, you still would part ways with him and spend most of your nights with Conner.
You rummaged through your small duffel bag you had packed from your and Jay’s apartment, trying to find anything that didn’t have bullet holes or were permanently stained. After these past weeks, you were left with only one outfit left.
“(Y/N), I know this is tough, but you gotta make a decision.” you hear Connor say as he leans against the doorway to the living room.
Looking over to him, you see one of his minimalistic mugs in hand, filled with a steaming liquid. In only sweatpants from your last...session, he looked like a perfectly handsome mess. Connor Rhodes was the perfect guy. Good job, smart, sarcastic, sweet, caring, unbelievably good looking. But deep down you knew he was too perfect. You wanted your fucked up boy from the army who would lay his life on the line for you in a heartbeat. The guy who made mistakes with you but would always return to make things right. You wanted Jay Halstead.
“Think you can spare some room for me here?” you ask with a half hearted smile.
“I always will. But both you and I know this won’t last because you took the easy way out. You’re always going to want-”
“Him...” you whisper as your hand graces over one of Jay’s shirts that had found its way into your bag.
Gently, you pick up the worn out garment and run your fingers along the collar. Even without pressing your face to it, you knew it would smell like him. Smell like home.
“Need a ride?” Connor asks softly.
Shaking your head, you quickly pack up and grab your keys. Before leaving Connor’s apartment, you turn to him with a sad smile.
“I’m sorry, I know this probably didn’t turn out like you wanted it too.”
“No hard feelings, this was temporary. And it was lots of fun. But you both deserve to be happy.” he replies with a smile.
You smile too and nod before leaving and going to your car. After throwing your duffel in the back and yourself into the driver’s seat, you were on your way home.
Parking in the same spot as you always did, you turn and pull the keys from the ignition as your eyes scan over the building. The living room light was still on, a small flickering every now and then telling you that Jay was probably watching the Hawks game.
You step out with a deep breath, bag in hand, your exhale crystallizing into fog from Chicago’s chilly winter weather. Walking towards the door, you unlock it with the keys you have and walk in, dropping your duffel by the door.
“Will, I’m not in the mood.” you hear Jay say from your living room.
Softly walking in, you see the small collection of beers that hadn’t taken Jay’s edge off strewn around him. The dark circles you had seen develop over the past weeks looked so much darker now. Tears filled your eyes at the realization that he was right, you were letting your extra feelings get in the way of what matters. Your friendship.
“It’s not Will, Jay,” you say.
Jay quickly twists from his lounging position to see you. It’s like he couldn’t stand up fast enough as he rushes towards you, pulling you into a tight hug. Gently, you wrap your arms around him in a friendly way, holding him close to you.
“I’m so sorry, (Y/N).” you hear him mumble.
“Enough of that, I’m home now.”
He pulls away just a touch, your faces proximity making your cheeks light up like red bulbs from Christmas lights. For a moment, you wish that he take that one step forwards. That his lips dance with yours when danger isn’t looming. But your wishes are futile as he takes more steps away from you.
“I’ll get you a beer,” he says as he backs away more, clearing up all the empty beer bottles before disappearing into the kitchen.
You only nod before plopping yourself on the end of the couch you claimed as yours. Soon enough, Jay returned with two beer bottles, sitting on his end of the couch while tossing a blanket over to you. You take both gratefully, sipping your beer while curling up into the soft material.
Two beers turned into twenty, giving both of you a slight buzz. The Hawks game had changed to Brooklyn Nine Nine. The space between you and Jay had shrunk as you cuddled together on the couch peacefully. Your tipsy laughter fills the apartment, contrasting the blue light from the TV with warmth.
Your soft whine when the show switches from the cop comedy to Seinfeld only makes Jay laugh more. You smack his chest playfully, quickly sitting up to meet his face.
“How dare you giggle at my misery. Halstead,”
“Oh whatever, stupid, it was cute and I’m allowed,” he replies with a smirk.
“Oh, so I’m stupid then cute?”
“Will you shut up so we can watch the show?”
“Make me.”
You will never regret saying those two words.
In a blur, Jay snatches your hips and pulls you onto his lap. The distance between you two closed as he leans up and captures your lips with his. Shocked, you gasp but quickly return the kiss, your hand working their way from his chest to his face.
His hands somehow find their way under your shirt, on your lower back, pulling you closer into his chest. Working your hands away from his head, you tug at the collar of his shirt from behind his neck.
Another blur and Jay is standing with you in his arms before disappearing into his room with you.
-~-
The bright light streaming in from Jay’s windows pierces your brain, making you groan slightly from the mild hangover you had...again.
But my were you glad you were.
As soon as you tried to slip out of bed to get some aspirin, two strong arms pulled you closer into a chest. Turning around, you see Jay half asleep with a goofy smile on his face. A sense of relief flooded over you, he remembered the night before. And he didn’t seem to regret it either.
“You gotta let me go, lover boy,” you mumble as you run a hand through his messy hair.
“Nooo,” he whines, puling you even tighter to him causing you to giggle.
“We are gonna be late and Voight will be pissed,”
“God, fine, but you owe me when we get home,”
He reluctantly releases you into the cold air of the apartment. With ease, you steal his shirt laid on the floor and slip it over your naked self. Looking behind you, you catch a glimpse of him getting out of bed. Memories of the night before flooded your mind, making you bite your lip and a blush to spread across your face.
“Can I help you?” he asks while slipping on a pair of sweatpants, a tired smirk on on his face.
“Hmm, maybe when we get home.” you say with a wink before walking out of the room.
-~-
A couple of months later and both of you still have a jump in your step walking into work. The squad originally thought it was because you had finally gone home to Jay. But when your giddiness hadn’t died down over the weeks, bets were quickly placed.
Sitting at your desk, you take a sip of coffee and begin to fill out paperwork on your laptop. From across the room, you could feel Halstead’s eyes on you. Subtly looking over at him, you see his eyes on the hickey forming on your neck just below your jaw. With a smirk, you tuck your hair out of the way, putting the bruise on full display. You watch as Jay’s bottom lip gets tucked beneath his teeth and you send a soft wink his way.
Just in time, you look away to see Voight rushing downstairs, armed in tactical gear.
“We’ve got a hostage situation at Bleeker Street Bank. All of Intelligence needs to be there, this seems to link back to our case against Diaz,” Voight quickly says to the squad.
Jumping out of your seat, you rush to the locker room and quickly suit up. Walking out with your gun case, you hear Voight assign you and Halstead on the opposing roof as snipers. With a nod, you both rush out to his beast of a truck.
The entire ride there, he kept a gentle hand on your thigh but you could tell he was on edge. You both hated when the other had to go into a highly dangerous situation, but it was part of your job. As he parks, you quickly lay your hand on his cheek and turn his face towards you. Gently, you lay a quick but deep kiss on his lips. Once he pulls away, his eyebrow shoots up and smirk appears on his face.
“What was that for?”
“To get you to calm down,”
You smirk and get out, grabbing your gun case from the back and making your way up to the roof of the opposing building. Once you’re stationed, you quickly set up the gun and aim the scope at the open window. You have a clear view of the hostages in the room but no sign of the offender.
“You got eyes on the offender?” you ask Jay, not moving from your spot.
No response.
“Jay?”
Suddenly, you feel a blade against your throat, making you tense up but your hands refuse to move from your gun.
“Come on, pretty girl. You and your friend are gonna pay for what you did to Diaz.”
Gripping tightly onto your gun, you snap your head back, hitting your captor in the crotch with your head. He stumbles back, but not without his blade cutting your neck a bit. Gritting your teeth through the pain, you use both hands to hit your offender in the face with your heavy rifle. Quickly, he flies to the ground, unconscious from the hit.
That’s when you hear the click of another gun, most likely aimed at you.
Slowly, you turn your head to see another guy with a gun in hand. This time, it wasn’t aimed at you. It was aimed towards Jay’s head as he held him a death grip.
“Let him go...” you growl.
“Nuh - uh, sweet heart. You and your friend are coming with us. Drop the rifle.”
Quickly, you let go, the clatter of the powerful gun making the man in front of you relax a bit.
“He had nothing to do with this,” you reply, raising one hand and slowly moving your other that was concealed from him towards your back where your pistol lay.
“He was an accomplice, got Quentin into the spot where you needed to shoot. So nah, he’s coming with us.”
Jay’s eyes widen at the sight of your hand gripping tightly onto your gun before you whip it out, aiming it at the additional captor. At the same time, the gruff looking man moves his aim away from Jay and towards you. Jay desperately tries to break the man’s hold on him before it’s too late.
“I said let him go!” you yell, your anger increasing at the situation.
“Move one more step and I’ll shoot!” he replies.
“Go ahead, because you can bet your ass I won’t miss!”
The tip of your gun is aimed directly at his head and you take a sharp inhale as your finger moves to the trigger.
“Drop him!” you yell again.
“Put the gun down!”
Exhale and shoot.
But more then one gun goes off at the same time. Adrenaline runs through your veins like a mustang as you watch the guy drop dead beside an unharmed Jay.
“Told you I don’t miss,” you say as you shakily lower your pistol. Wait, why were you shaking?
Looking down, you see blood pooling on the white shirt underneath your bullet proof vest. He’d gotten you right below the ribs, right where your body was exposed from the vest when you had your arms up.
“(Y/N)!” Jay yells as he rushes over to you.
Blood pours through the shirt as you drop your gun, applying pressure to the wound as the metallic liquid pours through your fingers like water. The amount of blood you were losing and how fast it was pouring out makes your legs weak. Too weak, as they collapse under you, your body hitting the gravel roof as everything blurs.
“This is Jay Halstead, officer down! We need paramedics on the roof of the north building immediately!”
“C’mon, baby, you can’t leave me now.” Jay’s voice echoes in your head.
His hands are over yours as he helps keep pressure on the wound. You simply smile through the pain, moving one bloodied hand from underneath his and laying it on top of the pile.
“I love you,” you say, giving his hand a gentle squeeze as your eyelids get too heavy to hold open.
- Jay’s POV -
“(Y/N)?” I ask shakily, tears flooding my eyes in a faster pace then before. When she doesn’t answer, it’s like a punch to the gut over and over.
“(Y/N), stay with me! Wake up, baby, please!”
I push harder on her wound as her body begins to go limp. Paramedics arrive, bracing her and carrying her into the ambulance as I follow close behind. Both of us ride in the back of the ambo as it races to Med. Paramedics work around me as I hold onto her hand with both of my mine, tears breaking up the blood stained on my face.
As they race her into the ED, I see Rhodes eyes widen at who his next trauma patient was before quickly getting to work. She disappears into the ED as Will races out and towards me. All I can seem to do is sit against the tail end of the ambo, staring off into space.
“Jay, man, what happened? Are you hurt?” Will asks.
“I never got to tell her I love her back.”

Prologue - Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 5 (finale)
-~-
He could hear your screams from the waiting room, making more tears fall with each tortured yelp. Why couldn’t they just sedate you? Give you some kind of pain management?
As if some other worldly power heard him, your echoes of pain no longer bounced towards him. Jay’s cries turned to sobs, his hands grasped so tight in front of his face his knuckles were white. Ruzek gently clapped his shoulder, along with the rest of the squad that surrounded the lone Halstead.
“She’s a fighter, Jay. I’m sure she’s okay,” he mumbles, trying to make the best of a bad situation.
Jay wishes with everything he has that Adam was right. That Rhodes had just put you under to spare you the pain. But there was a small voice, like a demon on his shoulder, saying that you had left him. That you were gone.
So as soon as Will entered the waiting area, covered in your blood, he held his breath. Everyone that was there for you did. When Will sat beside his brother, tears began to form in preparation for the worst.
“The, uh,” Will sighs. “The bullet was through and through. Only nicked a few arteries and Dr. Rhodes is stitching up the arteries right now. She might scream some more because she refused sedation.”
“Wait, without sedation? Why didn’t she want sedation?” Jay asks quickly.
“That’s something you’ll have to ask her once we move her up into recovery.”
“When can I see her?” Jay says while wiping what was left of his tears.
“Well, Natalie just has a few more tests to run after the surgery and then I’ll take you to her.” Will says while standing up. “She got really lucky, more then you know right now.”
Once he walks away, the entire district was in a kerfuffle over Will’s vagueness about your refusal of sedation.
“Who does he think he is? Sherlock Holmes? We deserve to know.” Ruzek says to the group.
“Yeah, well it’s obvious she didn’t want us to know something.” Jay snaps.
The whole room fell silent.
-(Y/N)’s POV-
The bounce from the stretcher sent pain racing through our abdomen, waking you up from your blood loss induced sleep. Once your eyes opened, you saw tears racing down Jay’s face as he sat on the ambo. You tried to sit up, tried to get to him and tell him you were okay. But the pain and a hand on your chest was a gruesome reminder.
“Let’s get 100 milligrams of Fentanyl in her stat and a bedside ultrasound,” Connor says as he wheels you into the trauma room.
“On my count. 1, 2, 3,”
Shaky hands lift your back board and lay you on the bed. All you can think to do is scream as your wound is hit multiple times in the tussle. Your vest is removed and your shirt is cut off swiftly with scissors. Through your blurry vision, you see Will and another doctor enter, gloves at the ready. The women takes the ultrasound wand from Connor as Will tries to place in an iv in your arm.
“Bullet is through and through,” Connor says.
“No free fluid in the belly,” the other doctor says before moving the wand lower. “Wait, hold the fentanyl.”
“Natalie, she needs it.” Will says as you feel a needle pierce your skin, adding onto the pile of pain your body was vibrating from.
“Ms. (Y/L/N), did you know you were pregnant?”
“No, no fucking way,” you mumble as you shake harder, only increasing your pain.
“Alright, (Y/N),” you hear Connor say. Turning your head, you can see the worry in his eyes.
“You are pregnant. Now I can give you a lower dose of fentanyl and I can get you under mild anesthesia. But I need to repair your wound or you and the baby will die.”
Everything begins to blur around you, but one thing stands out through the fog. You were going to protect your baby no matter what.
“Give me the lowest dose you can give me,” you whimper. “No sedation.”
“(Y/N)-”
“You heard me Connor!” you say as the pain spreads up, making it feel like you can’t breathe.
“Alright, call my team and take her to the Hybrid OR. Natalie, scrub in, I need you to keep an eye on that fetus.”
Connor and Natalie disappear out of the room as Will sticks you with yet another needle. Quickly, he wheels you in your bed into the OR. With the help of some nurses, he gets you on the operating table.
“Do you want me to tell Jay?” he asks.
“No,” you say while swallowing back whatever was left in your mouth. Will simply nods and leaves the room as Natalie and Connor enter.
“Alright, (Y/N), this is going to hurt but I need you to stay as still as possible. If you flinch and I knick another artery it’s game over for you two.” he says to, preparing what he needed to begin.
All you could do was nod, the pain and exhaustion beginning to overtake your already weak and fragile body.
That’s when you felt the first cut.
Searing pain on top of what already was unbearable spreads across your skin like fire ants on the hunt. You scream out, the only option you have as you force your body to stay as still as possible.
“(Y/N), the baby’s heart rate is increasing because of the pain. It’s safer for both of you to go under light sedation. I promise it won’t hurt it.” Natalie says to you, her worried eyes peering through into your soul.
You can only nod with a sob as Natalie gets to work. At the same time yet another needle pierces your skin, you feel cold metal digging into your chest. You’re out of energy to scream, all you can do is cry, ensuring your chest doesn’t bounce with each passing sob.
As you watch the needle disappear into your chest cavity, you prepare yourself to feel the pain once more. Thanks to the sedation, you finally didn’t feel a thing, but your body stayed tensed up as always.
After about a half an hour, you were closed up and waiting to be transferred to the recovery room. Connor sits beside you in the tiny ER room, his cap and mask in hand as he looks at you.
“Is it mine?”
Your breath hitches in your throat. What if it was? Back there, you automatically thought that the baby belonged to Jay, failing to remember about your adventures with Connor.
“I don’t know,” you croak. “If it is?”
“That’s up to you.”
You sigh to the amount your chest lets you. Things were finally right with Jay, you were in love and happy. Of course this happens now, something to take your happiness away.
“Dr. Rhodes? Can I have a moment with (Y/N)?” you hear Natalie say from the entrance to the cramped room.
“Yeah,” Connor says before standing up. “Just keep me updated.”
Natalie only nods as he leaves, you chuckling at her curtness towards him. She looks towards you and smiles, pulling the ultrasound machine over once more.
“Really? Him?” she says teasingly. You keep your chuckles soft to avoid more pain, but through your exhaustion you smile.
“What can I say? He was available.”
Looking down at her hand, you spot a ring on her finger, the one Jay had shown you many times on the anniversary of his Mom’s death. The one Will had taken for his special person.
“You’re Will’s fiancée?” you ask as you watch her hit a few buttons on the machine beside you two.
“Yeah, you must be Jay’s best friend then.” she replies before gently lifting up your gown.
“Not so much anymore,” you say with a bit of glum.
“I’m sure the baby won’t get in the way,” she reassures.
“That’s no-”
You’re interrupted by the sound of your baby’s heartbeat. Uncontrollable tears spring to your eyes once she turns the screen for you to see your tiny blip. Gently, you lay a hand over your mouth to hide your smile, not believing that there was another human inside you that somehow, you would do anything for already.
“The baby looks completely healthy, despite everything. They look to be about 7 weeks along.” Natalie says to you with a smile.
You run a hand through your hair, quickly doing the math in your head. The last time you and Connor slept together was well over 7 weeks at that point. You and Jay...well.
“It’s not Connor’s.” you reply with a soft sigh in relief.
With a smirk, Natalie sends a few photos to be printed before cleaning you up and taking you up to recovery. Once she gets you set up, ensuring everything was in working order, she walks towards the doorway. Before she leaves, she turns back towards you.
“Do you want me to bring Jay up?” she asks.
You nod softly as you gently lay a shaking hand on your abdomen. It was time for your blip to me it’s daddy.

Prologue - Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4
-~-
You softly twirl the photo Natalie had given you when she came to check on you. Your mind was in some kind of dreamland while you waited for Jay to come see you. Would your blip have his eyes? His smile? Lord help you if they inherited his cockiness too.
The door softly creaks, making you look up to see Jay walk in, flowers and a coffee in hand. You laid the photo face down on your stomach and automatically see the hints of red bouncing off his hazel eyes, you could tell he was crying over you. All you could offer him was a small smile. He returns it a bit, gently laying the flowers on the table beside you.
Before turning to sit down, he leans over you, laying a small kiss against your lips, making you smile against his. As he slowly pulls away, you can tell he’s holding back tears. Shakily, you reach up to wipe away the ones that had already fallen.
“I love you,” he whispers quietly. “I was so scared I wouldn’t be able to tell you.”
“I already know you love me, Jay. Don’t worry, because I love you too.”
With a soft smile, he lays another tender kiss on your lips. With your arm opposite your injury, you run a hand through his hair and let your lips dance along with his. Eventually, you two have to part, making you pout softly. Jay chuckles at your reaction, like music to your ears.
“How are you feeling?” he asks, taking a seat beside you.
“Like I’ve been hit by a nausea inducing truck,” you reply with a soft chuckle.
“C’mon, whimp.” he chuckles a bit. “You’ve taken worse.”
“The stakes were higher this time,” you reply, your smile not disappearing, making Jay raise his eyebrow.
“I think the pain has made you go crazy.”
“I’m on pain management, Jay.”
“Then why didn’t you take the sedation?”
“Because I didn’t need it.”
“Your screams tell me otherwise. It sounded like they were torturing you, (Y/N).”
“Well, I didn’t want it.”
“You proved you’re tough, babe. Next time just take it.”
“Well I’m not going to need it. I’m not returning to the field for at least 9 months.”
“I know you need to heal but 9 months seems a bit long, don’t you think?”
“God, your skull is thicker then my ass sometimes.” you say with a soft chuckle.
“Well just tell me then instead of dropping hints!” he yells dramatically, a small smirk appearing on his face.
You chuckle to the best of your ability without popping a stitch before your hand glides over to the fragile photo laying on your stomach. Shakily, you lift the photo of your blip and hand it to Jay’s calloused hands, even his shaking from unknown emotion.
As he guides the black and white picture towards his eyes, you try to read his face to understand the emotion he processes. For once, your talent to read people was failing you, Jay’s face was frozen in place as his eyes analyze your tiny blip.
Your heart begins to pace like you wish your legs would let you in this situation. Waiting for an answer was torturous, worse then any other questioning tactic you had ever gone through.
But like the sun creeping through the blinds early in the morning, Jay’s tearful smile sent warmth all over your body. You replicate the small smile with happy tears falling into the crevices your smile left in your cheeks.
Jay lays the photo on the one nightstand left in the room and lays his hand on your nonexistent baby bump, his eyes full of amazement. Gently, you move your hand on top of his, looking down at the two hands over your little blip.
You feel Jay’s lips against your cheek once. But when he goes in for another, you move your head so his lips meet yours instead, a sweet kiss shared between the two of you. As you both pull away, looking at each other with nothing but love, you whisper:
“Looks like I still haven’t missed in the past 10 years,”
“Oh, for fucks sake, (Y/N)! We were having a moment!” Jay whines playfully, causing you to laugh softly while squeezing his hand.
Later that night, you look down at your small family beginning. Jay’s sleeping head laying on top of your stomach with a small smile despite his current state. You gently run a hand through his hair in a lazy pattern as you think about your future. Your blip turning into a baby. Your shared room in the apartment turning into a nursery. Maybe even a ring to replace your empty finger. However, there was one thing you knew for certain.
This was the best shot you had ever taken.

Matchmaking
Pairing: Jay Halstead x reader
Summery: Hermann tries to set Jay up

Jay and Will were at Molly’s, finally catching up after the long week they both had at work, when Hermann came bringing them their beers.
“Hi Jay”- said Hermann -“I’m not usually the matching make type of guy, but my wife wanted to set you up with somebody”
Jay raised his eyebrows and smirked, startled by Hermann’s words, but he didn’t even have the time to open his mouth that Will was already talking
“Wow Hermann, what’s wrong with me?”- said Will pretending to be offended
“Slow down”- said Jay at Will before focusing back on Hermann-“Who is she?”
“She is great gal, she’s cute, she’s in my wife Bridge club”
Will and Jay both chuckled at Hermann’s words
“You know Jay I take it back, you can have her”- Will said barely able to talk.
Jay was still trying to find a polite way to tell Christopher he wasn’t interested, because let’s be honest: a Bridge club kinda girl wasn’t his type, when Hermann started talking again
“Here’s she come. I hope you don’t mind, I told her to come here”- he said while waving at the girl entering the bar.
Jay could already feel bad for the woman, now he had to tell her face to face.
He looked up towards the entrance and choked a little bit, totally taken back by the girl at the door: she wasn’t what she was expecting
“You know I changed my mind”- he heard Will saying behind you
“Don’t you even think about it”- Jay whispered to his brother, making sure she couldn’t hear him. He even elbowed Will, just to be sure.
“Hey Chris, how are you”- the woman said while smiling softly to Hermann
“Everything is ok sweetheart, this is the guy Cindy has been talking to you about “- Hermann said while pointing at Jay
“Oh my god, Hermann you promised you wouldn’t listen to her”- Jay could see your beautiful face darkening a little bit, it was clear you were embarrassed
“I’m sorry but I’m the one that sleep next to her at night, I couldn’t say no for much longer. So Y/n this is Jay, Jay this is Y/n. I’ll leave you two to talk a little bit. Have fun but not to much, Cindy will kill me if you hurt her, Halstead”- Chris said before leaving
“Oh my god”- you whispered-“I’m so sorry for all of this.” - you smiled at him and Jay’s heart skipped a bit
“Don’t worry about it. Can I offer you a drink? We wouldn’t want to disappoint Cindy, would we?”- he smirked.
Jay drank her in: she was a beautiful woman that was sure, but the light in her eyes was what really caught his attention.
“Sure why not, disappointing Cindy is the last thing I’d ever want to do”- you softly laughed trying to be smooth… probably without succeeding- “so how do you know Chris”
“I’m a detective at 21, we have crossed ways. What about you? Hermann told me you know Cindy through your Bridge club. I must say I wasn’t expecting you when he told me that”- he gently laughed at your groan
“Only him I swear. Although it’s true, i go there with my grandma, trying to spend some time together”- you shrugged. You weren’t ashamed of your Bridge club nor of the time you spent with your grandma, she was one of the most important person in your life, but you being part of a Bridget club wasn’t the first thing you told a guy for sure.
“I think it’s cute”
“Sure you do”- you smirked at him; you weren’t sure if he was telling the true but you appreciated it anyway
“So what do you do, Herman didn’t mention it”- he asked you
You were about to answer when something caught your attention and you frowned
“It’s everything ok?”- he asked -“please don’t tell me you’re a serial bank robber. Arresting you isn’t how I’d like to end this night”
You smirked before answering
“Yeah it’s just Christopher and another guy keep looking at us”
Jay turned around to look and couldn’t help but laugh
“That’s my brother, he’s probably sulking because Hermann didn’t think about him”
“What?”
“I mean he probably would have liked to be in my spot right now, talking with a beautiful woman while drinking a beer”- you gulped, Jay’s eyes were too much for his own good. Damn it you couldn’t take your eyes away from him
“He’s not my type”- you heavily breathed. How did you two went from talking about your job to this? Damn blue eyes, you always had a soft spot for them
“What about me? Am I? Your type I mean”- you felt the air between you two shifting when he got closer. All you could focus about were his eyes…
You really needed some air
“Maybe”- you smirked -“You wanna get out of here and find out?”
It was clear he didn’t see it coming because his eyes became immediately darker
“Hermann said not to have too much fun”
“Are you seriously thinking about Chris right now?”- you whispered while caressing his arm… fuck his arms were too much
“Hell no, let’s go”- he left some money on the counter and took your hand taking you away
You laughed, it was going to be an interesting night for sure .

Dads Best Friend - J.Halstead

a/n its my first attempt at posting on here.. im nervous. i wrote this while exhausted and haven't gotten it checked out by anyone TW; implied smut, large but legal age gap dedicated to @hotchsbabygirl <3
Tiptoeing down your large staircase and into your kitchen in only your underwear and a way-too-big shirt you found in the laundry seemed like a good idea at the time. Grabbing a cup and filling it with water, lift your weight onto the kitchen island with your phone in one hand. It was roughly two am, and you were trying to sober up. You had been out at a party all night, while your parents had a get together with some of their friends.
Running a hand through your hair as you mindlessly scroll, you laugh at a video of you and your friend doing shots. “What’s so funny?” a familiar voice said, turning on the light causing you to nearly drop your cup of water as you barely manage to hold back a scream. “Fuck! Jay, you scared the living hell out of me.” You breathe out, a hand on your chest, the two of you choosing to ignore his lack of a shirt and your lack of pants.
Jay laughs heavily, and you find yourself admiring him as he starts making himself a coffee. You liked Jay, he was probably your favourite out of all your dads' friends. He was cool and really real with you- it helps he’s insanely attractive. “Says the one in the kitchen at two-thirty in the morning.” He snarks. “How was the party?” he follows up.
“It was good enough that I won’t remember it once I wake up.” You smile at him, and he sits on a stool near where you were perched. “Mm, long night then? Anyone, I gotta rough up a little?” he teases and you giggle. He was in his late, and you were twenty-two, almost twenty-three. He knew exactly how it was to be your age.
“Nope, it was just clubbing with some of my girls. This guy did buy us a whole bottle of this fancy shit, it was gross.” You smile at the memory and the corner of Jay's mouth raises into a little side smirk. “Did it get the job done?” he asks, and you give him a look, gesturing to your appearance. “Obviously, look at me.” You playfully roll your eyes at him, and Jay takes the chance to look you over.
Your skin had been cleaned of all makeup and your hair was messy, but you still looked perfect to him. but one thing stood out, the shirt. He finds himself laughing again. “Is that my shirt?” he points. “Is it? Fuck, I pulled it out of the laundry without checking.” Your reason. “It’s okay, I left it here last time I slept over, you look good in it though.” You laugh, cheeks red in embarrassment as you take the shirt off your body, throwing it at him, leaving yourself completely exposes as both your eyes widen at the realisation of what you just did.
Jay looks away out of respect for you, and it feels like you're not so sober anymore. “D-don’t look away, Jay,” you say, and his eyes move to yours. Unwavering as to not make you uncomfortable. “You’re drunk, put the shirt back on.” He says, handing it back to you. You huff, putting the shirt back on. “Hmph,” you murmur, and he laughs at your ability to ignore the shifting of weight on both of your hearts.
“I think I’m going to be sick..” you suddenly exclaimed, pushing off the bench and quickly releasing the content of your stomach into your trash can. Jay is quick to jump to action, taking a hair-tie off your wrist and tying your hair into a messy ponytail. He cleans you up, makes sure you’re not going to puke anytime soon and picks you up bridal style and puts you into your bed. “I’m not a baby.” Were one of your many protests, causing him to shake his head and laugh. He brought you a bucket and a water bottle along with a few painkillers and quickly told you to message him if you needed anything, and he left.
You let yourself think about what you just did. How could you be so stupid to think that was a good idea? You had been childishly crushing on him for a while now, but you never planned to progress it. You groaned, putting your head in your hands, then running them through your hair as you picked up your phone to distract yourself.
You felt fine now, you ever wondered If you had thrown up due to how nervous you were, not your sobriety. you were certain you weren’t getting any sleep, and that situation had left you almost as frustrated as it had left you embarrassed. Waiting until it was almost half-past three, you slipped in the shower. Paying attention to what you were doing, drying your hair and putting on pyjamas under a cute little set to give you that ego boost you so badly needed.
You stepped out of your room to be met with Jay, on his way down the hall to your room. You anxiously smiled, “you can’t sleep either?” you ask. It wouldn’t be the first time you and Jay had met up with each other early in the morning. But this time was different, it was tense and hardly platonic as it was when you were younger.
“No, I cant. I was coming to check on you.” He replied, now leaning on the wall next to the door frame you were standing by. “I feel perfectly fine now. Don’t know what came over me.” You gulped. His eyes were watching your every move with so much intensity like he was deciding something. “You should try and get some sleep,” Jay says, pausing for a second and abruptly turning to leave.
You figure it's now or never, barely taking time to collect what you’re doing before your rushing over to him, turning him around and pressing his lips to yours. He kisses back immediately like you were his form of hydration. You press against him, letting out a small whine as the kiss gets harsher. He pulls away, “I really shouldn’t-“ he starts, but you don’t let him finish. “Please, Jay.” you almost beg and his cock twitches. “I need you, please.” You hold onto his shirt gently. “Fuck.” He swears to himself under his breath, kissing you again, this time it's ten times more serious.
“Jump,” He demands, and you do so, legs wrapped around him as he holds you up. You can feel all of him and it's exhilarating and making you wetter by the second. He fluttering kisses against your neck, making you into a mess for him. “Do you want me to stop?” he whispers against your soft skin. “No, take me into the bedroom.” You say, and he carries you in and shuts the door behind the two of you. Needless to say, neither of you got to sleep that morning.
Pain [Jay Halstead]

Description: Y/N gets shot during a standoff.
Warnings: Guns, blood, cussing probably.
Shots rang out as Intelligence tried to catch their subject. Justin Smith. He's killed seven people. He was discharged from the Marines under Dishonorable Conditions for shooting a man in Afghanistan. He's ruthless and he's got impeccable aim, so the team was really on edge.
"Y/L/N!" Voight yells. "You and Halstead move!" He demands.
Y/N and Jay were partners. They knew each other before they were partnered up considering they used to live on the same street, but they worked well together and got the job done.
Y/N moves behind Jay so she can cover him while he runs behind the wall to get closer to Smith. She holds her gun up and rests her hand on the back of Jays vest. He takes off and is safe in a matter of seconds.
Smith ducks down and Y/N takes her chance to run for it, but while she does that Smith shoots her in the leg with a sniper rifle. She shoots at him as she falls to the ground and she hits his shoulder.
"Y/N!" Jay yells.
"Halstead go! I'll cover you!" Atwater yells over the commotion. Jay runs over and grabs Y/N's vest, normally she'd hold her hand out so he didn't have to be exposed for long, but she passed out from hitting the ground hard.
He drags her behind the wall and collapses to the ground with her. Jay props her up and takes her thigh holster off so he can have access to her wound. It's a through and through, but it's bleeding heavily, so there's a good chance Smith hit her femoral artery. Jay reaches for his radio and keys it.
"Intelligence to Main."
"Go ahead Intelligence."
"Officer down. Through and through in the left thigh, possible femoral artery involvement. Have a Ambulance stage a block away from our location." He shouts over the gunfire. He puts the radio back and grabs his knife. He cuts the sleeve of Y/N's shirt off and makes it into a tourniquet. He twists it tight and Y/N groans in pain.
"Stop. Stop." She tries to push his hands away but Jay keeps his hands in place. "Stop." He looks up to see her face has paled significantly, she has bags under her eyes and she's sweating. His eyes widen and he swallows hard.
"I know it hurts." He breathes. "Just a little while longer. Ok?" She doesn't answer so he looks up again. She's slumped over with her eyes closed. Jay reaches up and presses his fingers to her carotid artery. Her pulse is there, but it's faint and slowing down.
"Voight!" He yells into his radio. "I need cover, she's bleeding out!"
"Atwater! Lindsay! Cover Halstead!" Voight orders. Kevin and Erin keep their guns on Smith and Jay throws Y/N over his shoulder and runs towards the door. Once he makes it out he grabs his radio again.
"Main where's our ambulance staged?!"
"Intersection of Main and Lake Shore." Jay turns and sprints to the ambulances location.
Once he turns the corner of Main street the paramedics get out and open up the back doors.
"Detective Y/N Y/L/N, twenty-five years old, GSW to the left thigh, definite Femoral Artery involvement, pulse is weak." He jumps in the back and puts her on the cot.
"Alright, off to Med."
§§§
It's been two hours. Two hours of waiting and pacing. Will had taken Y/N up to the OR after they got to the hospital. Jay felt a little bit better knowing it was his brother looking after her, and he knew Will would do everything to save her because Will knew how Jay felt about his partner. He's in love with her.
The rest of Intelligence had to go back to the district because they caught another case, but Jay was told to stay and wait for an update. Jay was nervous. He didn't know if he had the tourniquet tight enough, or if he had waited too long to get her out of the situation. He was about to go ask the nurse at the desk if she knew Y/N's condition when Will walked out.
"Hey, is she ok?" Jay asks.
"She's fine, we repaired her artery and gave her some blood back. She's awake and asking to see you." Jay sighs in relief. He puts his hand out to Will and he shakes his hand while pulling him in for a hug.
"Thank you." Will nods and gestures for Jay to follow him. They walk down a couple of hallways before stopping in front of a half opened door. Will knocks and steps in.
"I've got a visitor for you Y/N." Will moves so she can see Jay and when he steps in her eyes light up. "I'm gonna go check on my other patients. Press the call button if you need anything." Both detectives nod and Will closes the door on his way out.
"Hi." Jay says as he sits in the chair next to her bed.
"Hi." Y/N quietly says.
"You scared the hell out of me, you know that?" Jay grabs her hand.
"I know, and I'm sorry." Y/N brings their hands up to her lips and presses a kiss to Jay's knuckle.
"Don't be sorry. As long as you're ok, I'll be good."
Mistakes [Jay Halstead & Will Halstead]

Description: Y/N and Jay are in a secret relationship. Will likes Y/N and makes a move on his brothers girl.
Y/N and Jay had been secretly dating for four months now, and it was going relatively well. They'd spend the night and most days off together, and have little dates at home. Which is what they'd done last night.
Y/N locks her apartment door and follows Jay into the hallway.
"Ready?" Jay asks. Y/N nods and they interlace their fingers before they start walking.
Jay walks Y/N to her car and they stand outside of it for a few seconds.
"Be careful today please. I don't need you showing up in the ED with a GSW."
"Can't make any promises, but I'll try my best." He chuckles then kisses her forehead. "You be careful too. Don't try to fight grown men if they are on steroids."
"Will do." Y/N laughs. She looks at her watch and sighs. This was her least favorite part of the day. "I'll see you later, ok?" Jay nods and gives her one last kiss before he opens her door for her and closes it once she gets in and starts the vehicle. He doesn't make his way to his vehicle until she's made it out of the parking lot.

Y/N and Will were working on a young boy who'd been brought in, obviously assaulted. They'd called for the police to come to the hospital, but then they got dragged into questioning from the head of the hospital.
They'd finally made it into the break room for they're lunch when Y/N caught Will staring at her.
"You ok Halstead?" She asks as she sits down next to him.
"Yeah." He clears his throat and looks away. "Just thinking about some things."
"What things? I could probably help." Y/N offers and sits her lunch on the coffee table.
"Well. I uh-." He hesitates. "There's this girl I like. I've liked her for a while now, but I don't know much about her, like if she's single, because she tends to like having her business broadcasted to the whole city of Chicago." He pauses. "She sort of acts like she might feel the same way, but I'm not sure if it's just how it seems to me."
Y/N thinks for a minute.
"I could tell him how I found out Jay liked me. I mean telling one person about us wouldn't be terrible, besides, he's his brother."
"Well, you could try making a move on her, but a subtle one, you know? So it's like if she responds well to it, she most definitely is attracted to you, but if not, she'll think of it as a friendly gesture." Y/N explains. Will nods and they sit there for a few moments in silence before Y/N starts to speak again. "I actually want to tell you something. I'm-." She gets cut off by Will smashing his lips onto hers. Y/N squeaks and jumps up from the couch. She covers her mouth with her hand. "-Dating your brother!" She finishes.
§§§
Jay has seen it all. He was the Detective sent to get information from the boy, and Maggie had told him where both you and Will were.
Well, he didn't see it all. Just the part that makes it look like Y/N kissed his brother.
For the rest of the day, Y/N didn't hear anything from Jay, and when she went to his place that evening, she didn't expect grumpy Jay.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Y/N asks as she sees Jay's grumpy demeanor.
"You should know." He states coldly.
"Ok?" She drags.
Had he seen what happened?
"You kissed my brother."
Yep. He saw.
"Jay. That wasn't at all what it looked like." Y/N says.
"Well to me, it looked like exactly what I saw." Jay retorts.
"I didn't want you to see it." Y/N whispers and rubs her temples.
"So you did kiss Will?!"
"No! Of course not! Will said he was having trouble telling if a girl he liked felt the same way, and I decided to tell him about us to use you as an example, but before I could get it out he kissed me!" Y/N exclaims, using her hands for special effect. "I'd never do that to you, and neither would Will! It was a mistake."
"But, you guys were so close to each other-." Jay cuts himself off.
"I was just trying to be a good friend, Jay." She says softly. "I love you. I'd never, ever, do that to you."
Jay looks at her, surprised.
That was the first time she's told him she loves him.
"It's ok. I get it." Jay says. "I guess I was just worried that I lost you to my own brother." He admits.
"No, never." Y/N hugs him and Jay just melts from her warm presence.
"And by the way. I love you too."
First Glimpse Of You [Jay Halstead]⚠️

Description: Jay and Y/N go through a short rough patch while working a tough case and Y/N gets told life changing news.
Warnings: Maybe cussing? Discussing case details.
Jay and Y/N had been dating for two years. They met through the Intelligence Unit. Y/N was already a detective chosen by Voight to be in his Unit and then he brought Jay in. The two immediately hit it off and their relationship developed easily after that.
Intelligence was working a tough case. For the past two weeks they were trying to solve the murder of a twelve year old girl. She was taken from the school playground while waiting for her father to come pick her up.
The girls father owns a luxury car dealership and he's a known drug user. He admitted he was in debt to a dealer and that he got a letter in the mail stating that if he didn't pay he'd lose something valuable to him. He never thought they'd kill his daughter.
Y/N and Erin took this case hard. They were always trying to identify and track down the dealer, but they weren't having any luck.
Jay was getting tired of his girlfriend not being home and not taking care of herself. His frustrations boiled over the night before the units five day weekend was supposed to start.
"Nice of you to finally come home." Jay says as Y/N shuts the front door behind her and locks it. The smile on her face fades and she slouches.
"What is that supposed to mean?" She asks.
"This is the first time in a couple of weeks you've been home before one in the morning. What'd Voight do, lock you and Lindsay out?" He asks angrily. Y/N scoffs and kicks her shoes off.
"No, actually. I arrested the bastard that murdered that little girl an hour ago." She says as she goes upstairs and slams their bedroom door.
Jay sighs and leans his head back on the couch.
His back is going to hurt tomorrow from sleeping on the couch.
§§§
When Y/N woke up the next morning Jay was gone. He and the guys had decided to go fishing on Lake Michigan, so he would be gone almost all day. Y/N decided to clean the house, get ready and then she and Erin would go shopping.
She picked everything up, started laundry, put stuff away, did the dishes, swept and mopped the floors. The house was a mess. Normally Jay and Y/N split the chores, but they both have neglected their home lately.
After finishing, Y/N sat down for a second. A pain ripped through her left side and it nearly took her breath away. She held her side and took deep breaths until the pain subsided, deciding it was a pulled muscle and that she should just go take a shower and get ready.
While getting ready she had a few more pains, but they were never as bad as the first one.
§§§
Y/N and Erin had decided to get breakfast and coffee and then went to the mall. They went to the stores outside of the mall and they were walking on the sidewalk after leaving a boutique when Y/N stopped and grabbed her side.
"Hey, are you okay?" Erin asks and puts a hand on her shoulder.
"I think so. I’ve been having side pain today." She finishes her sentence and then looks up at Erin before her eyes unfocus.
"Y/N?" Erin waves her hand in front of her eyes and then suddenly they roll and she’s collapsing. "Y/N?!"
§§§
Y/N woke up in the hospital to see Will and Maggie in the room talking with Erin.
"Why am I here?" She asks sitting up.
Will walks over to her and puts his hand on her back. "You passed out while you were out with Erin today. You told her you’d had side pain all day and then you just collapsed." He tells her. "You’re very dehydrated and you’re pregnant. About two months along, and I’m assuming you didn’t know."
Y/N stares at him in disbelief before glancing over at Maggie and Erin for confirmation.
"Oh you’re not kidding are you?"
"No, honey. With what Erin told us you guys have been doing here lately we aren’t surprised you didn’t know, and we’re not surprised you’re having side pain." Maggie says.
"Well." Y/N sighs. "Did anyone call Jay?"
"No, we didn’t. We figured it would be better for you to." Will says.
"Okay." She nods. "Can I have pictures of my baby?"
"Sure thing, sweetheart. I’ll go get the technician." Maggie says with a smile.
Maggie leaves the room and then Erin excuses herself to take a phone call, so Will And Y/N are left.
"Listen, I know Jay has been grouchy about you throwing yourself into that case and I know what happened last night, but don’t freak out. He will be ecstatic. He loves you a lot. I’ve never seen him this way with anyone, and he will love this baby so much." Will says, sensing her nervousness.
"Thank you, Will. I know he loves me and I know I shouldn’t have got so into my head about this case, but this is our job and that little girls mom broke my heart. She never deserved that. Her dad was dumb, and made mistakes, she never should have had to pay for his mistakes and my heart told me I needed to find the bastard that killed her, and guess what? I did."
"I’m proud of you." Will says and gives Y/N a hug. "I’ll be back in a little bit to discharge you."
He leaves the room and Y/N glances at her stomach. She places her hand on it and smiles.
§§§
Jay walked into the house and saw that it was clean and all of the lights were off except the night lights on the stairs, so he took his shoes off and made his way up. It was late, so he expected Y/N to be sleeping already, which she was. He softly closed their bedroom door and smiled at her peaceful form before grabbing a pair of sweatpants and underwear to change into after his shower.
After finishing his shower, Jay walked back into the bedroom and put his phone on the charger and his gun in the nightstand. He pulled back the covers and climbed in behind Y/N and wrapped his arm around her and kissed her cheek.
She stirred awake and smiled. "How was your day?" She asks.
"Good. I caught some trout, salmon and a largemouth bass." He replies. "How was your day?"
"Good. I cleaned, went out with Erin." She says playing with his fingers.
"I’m sorry about last night. I shouldn’t have been upset with you. I know you were just doing your job, but I missed you and you were neglecting your own needs. I was worried."
"It’s okay. I don’t blame you and I know I’m going to have to take care of myself now." She sighs.
"Did something happen when I was gone?" Jay asks.
"I passed out when I was with Erin and she took me to the hospital. I was dehydrated and having pretty bad side pain that I chalked up to be a pulled muscle."
"Babe, why didn’t you call me? You know I would’ve dropped everything if I knew."
"I know, but I’m fine. They just gave me fluids." Jay chuckles and rolls his eyes at her stubbornness.
"So, what was the side pain?"
"Abdominal stretching pain is what your brother said. It’s caused by pregnancy mostly." She says nonchalantly, waiting for him to pick it up on his own.
"Oh, well I’m glad it wasn’t anything serious." He stops for a few seconds before sitting up and pulling her to face him. "Wait, pregnancy? Are you pregnant?!" He exclaims.
"Yes! I’m two months along and the baby is very healthy and big, which is why I have abdominal stretching pain already because of you and your genes that you’ve passed to our child." She smiles.
Jay pulls her into a hug and kisses anywhere her can reach while still holding her against him.
"Oh my god! We’re having a baby." He pulls away and smiles at her before pulling her in for a proper kiss.
Once they pull away Y/N reaches over to her nightstand and pulls a few ultrasound pictures off of it.
"I have pictures and we will be getting more soon."
"Let me see." Jay rushes.
He takes the pictures and looks at the baby. His baby, Y/N's baby, their baby. He notices he can already tell the baby has his nose and tears start streaming down his face.
"Don’t cry. You’re going to make me cry." Y/N whines, wiping under her eyes.
Jay pulls her into him again and kisses her.
Once he pulls away he wipes her tears and kisses her cheek.
"I love you so much. This is all I’ve ever wanted and now I get to experience this with you."
"I love you Jay Halstead."
Trail Of Lights [Jay Halstead] 🎄

Description: Jay plans a date night for Y/N and himself.
A/N: I am so sorry this is late. A lot of stuff has happened since the week of Christmas and I’ve been struggling to do anything. I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and that everyone is well!
Jay had planned a date night for himself and his fiancée, Y/N. The light show in Central Park is tonight, so he figured Y/N would enjoy that and dinner afterwards.
Y/N had gotten off of work that morning after her shift, so Jay told her he'd be home to get her around six that evening.
He stopped at the store to get her some flowers, since her Poinsettia's are starting to get dry and falling off the stem. Once he finally got home, he stopped in the kitchen to replace the flowers then made his way upstairs.
"Y/N?" Jay calls.
He hears rustling in the bedroom before Y/N pops her head out the door.
"Hey, I am wrapping your gifts real quick. Give me five?" She asks, keeping her body in the crack of the door so he can't see past her.
"Yeah, I'll be down stairs." Jay laughs, but turns around to go back down.
§§§
Like she said, five minutes later Y/N was downstairs ready to go.
Jay helped her get her coat on before leading her out to his truck.
"So, you never said where we are going or what we are doing." She starts.
Jay glances over at her and smiles, "Well it's a surprise, but I am sure you'll love it."
Y/N grimaces, scrunching her nose, "I don't like surprises."
Jay just laughs and opens the truck door for her to get in, "Stop pouting babe. You'll know soon enough."
Once she is in he rounds to the other side and hops in himself. He makes sure the heat is up and Christmas music is on before pulling away.
§§§
Jay parked the truck close to the entrance to the park and got out to help Y/N get out.
"What are we doing at the park babe?" She asks, tightening her coat around her.
"You want some hot chocolate, sweetheart? They've got a cart on the way."
"Yeah, that would be nice." Y/N replies with a smile.
Jay nods and begins leading her in the direction of the cart. They fall into a comfortable silence as they wait in line, after they receive their cups and make it to the entrance for the lights.
Y/N's eyes light up and she turns to Jay as they step into line.
"The trail of lights? How'd you know I wanted to go?"
"I knew you'd like it. Even if you don't say anything I see what you're looking at sometimes." He explains as he hands the man his tickets.
Y/N keeps quiet as they walk into the trail and looks around.
They've got different lights strung that change to the beat of the Christmas song playing through the speakers.
"Wow." She beams.
"You want to take a picture?" Jay asks. Y/N nods and goes over to the side to stand.
Jay pulls out his phone and goes to his camera. He could stand there all day and look at her beautiful smile. Knowing that he is the reason she is smiling melts his heart and makes him want to keep it on her face.
He snaps a few pictures and even takes a quick video as Y/N sings "White Christmas".
Jay glances down at the picture and decides to make it his phone screen really quick.
"Beautiful." He compliments.
Y/N asks a teenage girl walking past to take a picture of the two of them. She agrees so Y/N hands the girl her phone.
She corrals Jay over to the same spot and he takes her into his arms with a big smile on his face.
"Okay guys, big smile!"
The girl takes the picture as Y/N is looking up at Jay and he is looking down at her, both with big, beaming smiles on their faces.
"You guys are adorable."
