missing you — kth.
in which his adorable and hyper little pup just couldn’t wait for him to get home.
—
he didn’t like having to stay late in the studio. who would, when he knew he had an absolutely adorable puppy waiting for him at home?
“tete! you’re home!” you grinned, your smile as bright as day, even as the clock read 2:17 am.
his eyes glittered at the sight of you (and the sound of your beloved nickname from him rolling off your lips), his hands reaching around your waist as you came rushing into his arms, causing the taller man to let out a hushed oomf.
“hey baby.” his deep laugh echoed through the empty apartment as he carefully set down his bags.
he could feel the excited twitching of your ears, the soft black fur of your tail brushed against his leg as it wagged from side to side. he urged your legs to wrap themselves around his waist as he maneuvered the two of you towards the kitchen.
“how was your day tete? mine was pretty awesome! you would’ve loved it!
i-i baked some cupcakes, though they didn’t really turn out so well. i just wanted to surprise you after your practice but—!”
chuckling softly to himself, taehyung carefully sets you down onto the kitchen counter, watching knowingly as you bounce off to curl closer towards him.
“that’s okay! i tried cookies next, but those didn’t turn out great either. i knew you liked chocolate c-chips… but i can’t taste those! so i—“
he reaches into your fridge, his hands grab an opened water bottle, knowing you opened it and had probably forgotten about it. “hey, hey.”
you immediately shut your mouth, your eyes meeting his as your ears twitched and tail wagged excitedly.
his heart melted.
“slow down baby. don’t want you to lose your breath now do we?” laughing, he scratches that spot near your ears, causing you to sigh in content.
“mmn…” you grinned lazily, his touch intoxicating you and bringing you into a sluggish state.
he grins at you, swiftly patting your head and sauntering over to the room you both had shared.
his eyes quickly take notice of the small pile of clothes you had gathered on the bed, before flicking over to you—pink cheeks and all.
“i-i… just missed you.” you murmured, your tail had stopped wagging as it curled around your leg, the pink on your cheeks spreading to your ears.
“you’re adorable, my little puppy.”

I just absolutely need to see more of the cutesy hybrid fanfics like when did we start thinking were better then that cause i sure aint
I LOVE everything about this, every single detail. This is what made me want to write hybrid stories in the first place, it's soo fluffy and warm and arghhh so good.
[15.57] bear hybrid!jongho × reader
⇀ you always knew jongho as this big, buffy, serious guy but soon your whole view of him might change
⇁ I LITERALLY JUST THOUGHT OF THIS WHILE EATING BAGELS ISTG AJSKDDKJS
buy me coffee ?
Jongho has been very sluggish lately and you don't know why. It's actually quite frightening to see.
Usually you'd be greeted with the sight of your roommate working out in the living room. His dumbells that's bigger than the size of your head sits on his side as he do reps of anything and everything. Then he'll stop once you put both of your breakfasts on the table to eat together with you. You really like the arrangement and he's a great roommate.
So imagine your surprise when you woke up one late November to see him nowhere to be found. Initially, you thought that he might just be outside. Maybe he decided to go for a run or something. But soon his bedroom door creaked open and Jongho peeked his head out, "is breakfast ready?" He asked in a very gruff voice, sleep still evident. You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion, "Jongho, it's 10 am, have you just woken up?" You asked to which he answered by simply nodding his head. Usually, he'd have things to say. Or more like complain about.
And it went on for days, weeks even. With each passing day, he became more sluggish and even rare to see. As an active person, Jongho is usually up and about. If it's not to help his producer raccoon dog hybrid friend, Hongjoong, it was to meet up to do more work out with a samoyed hybrid, Mingi, and a snow fox hybrid, Yeosang, or even just to hang out with his other hybrid friends. He would sometimes be at home but he would rarely be stuck in his room like he's been frequently doing. It made you worried in all honesty.
You knocked on Jongho's door and slowly opened it so as to not surprise him. With your head peeked inside, you called out to him, "Jongho?" and you immediately noticed the lump in his bed moved. "Jongho," you called out again as you stepped into his very neat room and walked carefully to his bedside. The lump (Jongho) moved again and you carefully pulled down his blanket to expose his face. He was trying to open his eyes but they kept closing and the sight of him trying to wake up made you snicker because it honestly looked so adorable, a stark contrast to his usual MANLY man demeanour. "Jongho," you called again one last time and it made Jongho stretch out and slowly sat up, "Yeah?" he finally responded. "Are you okay?" you asked as you knelt down on the side of his bed, "You haven't been yourself in a while and I'm worried... Are you sick?" you asked.
Jongho stared at the wall ahead of him for a bit, seemingly trying to gather his mind and consciousness. He then turned to you and shook his head, "Wha- what are you talking about?" he asked, voice heavy with sleep. "You've been lethargic, not exercising, and you only leave your room to eat and sometimes maybe go to the bathroom. What's going on?" Jongho let your words sink in before he suddenly grinned goofily at you, "You've been watching me?" he teased. You rolled your eyes and push his forehead with your finger lightly, making his head bob a little, "Yes, dumbass because like I said, I'm worried. Should I call a doctor or something? Or... a vet?" you cringed at your own words. It was obvious that you don't know much about hybrids and it showed.
Suddenly, a soft, wide grin broke on Jongho's face, accompanied by a giggle, the first ever giggle from Jongho you've ever heard. You pouted and smacked him gently on his chest, "Hey, don't laugh at me!" you whined. Jongho shook his head as his laughter dissipates, "Sorry, sorry, I forgot that you're not a hybrid." You raised an eyebrow in confusion, "What do you mean you forgot that I'm not a hybrid?" Jongho mimicked your expression and answered matter-of-factly, "Have you seen the way you eat when you're feeling comfortable? You eat like an animal," he said before bursting into another fit of laughter. You pouted and smacked his arm but he didn't stop laughing. Luckily his laughter slowed down and once his laughter subsides, he cleared his throat and stared straight at you, "I'm in hibernation, (y/n)," and your brain immediately clicked, your mouth dropped to an 'o' shape as you nodded in understanding. "I only hibernate for a month and it happens between the cold months so like late November to February. This time I guess my hibernation just came early," he explained. Everything made sense then and there and your worry almost immediately goes away, "Okay, that's good to know, at least you're alright and now that I know what's going on, I can know when to actually worry," you grinned and then reached a hand to pat Jongho on his head, "Now you go back to you hibernap, I'll wake you up for dinner?" As if on cue, Jongho's eyes drooped when he heard you say 'nap' and he simply nodded with a thumbs up
For some reason, you felt the need to tuck him in bed. Maybe in his hibernation state, Jongho seems more like a bear cub than an adult bear, but you just felt like doing things to help him. Once you made sure he was back to sleep, you set off to slip away from his room. But suddenly Jongho spoke out just as you thought he had gone back to slumberland. "Mm can't sleep without kissy," he mumbled. You halted in your steps and snapped your head towards him in utter shock. "Excuse me?" you choked out but Jongho simply reached a hand out from his blanket and made a grabby motion, "Kissy," he muttered. Though unsure, you walked back to him and carefully leaned down to hesitantly kiss Jongho on the side of his head and of course, his hair smells good. You'd think it'd be something manly like musk but it's definitely coconut. Jongho sighed in contentment before he started snoring away and with that, you realized that you might like hibernating Jongho a little better than regular Jongho. Sure, regular Jongho kills bugs and lifts heavy stuff, but hibernating Jongho is a baby that you just want to coddle.
After knowing that Jongho was in hibernation, you were able to function better. Both you and Jongho found a rhythm and a schedule to function with each other. You felt more comfortable as well knowing that you can cook at certain times and Jongho would come out soon, you know that Jongho would still come out with you to get groceries on Wednesdays and help you put things away before taking a nap, and you know that although Jongho was hibernating, there would be days where he would just sit in front of the tv in the living room with a blanket around him for hours and it's okay for you to join in on him and he'd be glad for you to do so.
Your favourite moment came on one rainy night. You had just eaten dinner with Jongho and chatted for a bit, then he washed the dishes as you wash up before retreating to his room. It was colder than usual but you really liked how the ambience turned out. So you were in the living room, an afghan on your lap and a book in your hand (as a prop just to justify your need to reenact a Pinterest "cold weather day" mood board), as the hot cocoa you made rested on the side table, steam visible. The door to Jongho's room opened, catching you by surprise and he came out with a pout on his face. Sleep still evident on his face (aka the red streaks on one side of his cheek) and his zoning gaze. The cream-coloured hoodie he wore and grey sweatpants made him look so fluffy and you knew that if it came down to it, you can squish his cheeks and make cooing noises and the worst thing he could do is whine at you. "Hey, why are you up?" you asked but he just shrugged as he trodded over to you. You sat up straight to look at his face as he just stood there, zoned out, "I thought you were gonna sleep?" you tried asking again.
Much to your surprise, Jongho suddenly laid down on top of you, his body slotted between your legs with his hands limp on your sides, and his head comfortably on your chest. You froze with your hands up in the air, not knowing what just happened or what to do. You could only stare at Jongho with much confusion, waiting for him to do something. Anything. But he simply remained unresponsive, he had even started to snore a little. Slowly, your body relaxed, getting used to the feeling (and the reality) that Jongho was feeling so comfortable on top of you that he has completely drifted off. The more you looked at him, the harder it gets to try to suppress your grin. You couldn't help it anymore and let your hand move on their own accord. With one hand gently caressing his back and your other hand card through his hair as you softly hum a random tune that popped in your head. It resulted in Jongho letting out what you can only recognize as a satisfied rumble from inside of him and you had to hold in a squeak at how adorable he is and you rush to take a picture of him in that position as quietly as you can.
He's not gonna like this when he's done with his hibernation but you're DEFINITELY going to be sharing your experience with his hibernation and behaviour in GREAT detail with him. And his friends. And there's a chance you're going to have proof of the claims you made. But this one? You're going to keep for yourself.

JONGHO AS A BEAR HYBRID - RAISED LIKE SIBLINGS EDITION

I'm a bit late, but I had to write a little something for Jongho's birthday and this is my absolute favorite hc of him, so here we go! I could go on and on about it too, should I make a one shot of this? 👀

The moment your parents got an anonymous call to rescue a hybrid cat out of someone’s abandoned house, they didn’t think they would find a cub bear near the woods, alone and shot in the process.
To this day, that call would be an unsolved puzzle. First, there was no cat hybrid. Second, it was illegal to hunt in that area for many reasons. Third, why anyone would contact a small hybrid rescue organization instead of a wildlife rehabilitator?
They found out the answer for only one of those questions.
While they were in the car, the cub shifted to his human form due to lack of energy and blood. The little boy could barely speak or move, his poor condition clear as a day.
The good news were, from then on he’d have a home and, if he wanted to, a family to take care of him.
You both grew up together.
It was weird to explain the dynamic of you two to anyone who asked. There was no hierarchy between the two of you, something not as common as it was now. You were kind of like siblings, but without the constant urge to fight for everything.
Jongho would never fight you. Not because he didn’t want to sometimes (most times), but because he made a promise the moment he was accepted into the family. He would fight for your family, in whatever way they needed, so that includes you.
That meant, even when you were being stubborn for no reason or just annoying, he wouldn’t fight you. Instead, he would just… judge you in silent until you stopped.
There were some fights here and there, of course. His patience wasn’t eternal, and he had his own feelings and moments of being annoying too… although he blames 99% of those on you.
But who’s counting, right?
You learned all the little things about him from a young age, so you knew him with the back of your hand.
Like the urge he had for affection, even though he hated to ask for it, so much so he would rather be shot again.
Of course, you’d cling to him like a koala all day long and he just… stood there, like an actual tree, paralyzed and overthinking ever second of it.
With time, he got used to the feeling and dare I say, he loved it a lot, but would never say it. If it makes you feel better, it would be plastered on his forehead the confusion and sadness the moment you stopped. He didn’t notice his pout, either.
Or like the way he’d never speak without being spoken to. That didn’t last for long, but while it did, you made sure to ask him as many questions as you could think about.
It ranged from do you know why the sky is blue? to can I touch your ears please, please? He would always say no to the last one until your parents said to stop asking.
You did, but you couldn’t help watching it all the time. It was small, round and it looked fluffy. It was the perfect combination to make anyone in their right minds give a little pet, you know? Still, you respected he needed his space.
He also knew you with the back of his hand. He observed every single habit of all of your family, because he had to be sure they were safe to be around. Then he kept doing it because he wanted to understand why you were so different from every other human he met.
Even though, you were so annoying and loud and sometimes a bit dumb as a child, you were also kind-hearted and generous since little. You didn’t even complain when you had to leave your own room for him to stay, you were soo worried and scared because of the bad condition you saw him in.
You were sincere in your questions about hybrids, how did he do things or why he did it, not in the way he sometimes felt with other people, who looked at him like a fascinating animal and nothing more.
He was grateful for whoever made that call and saved his life by bringing your parents to him, even though he always asked himself who could it be.

INTRO MASTERLIST ONE

Ateez Masterlist

Don’t you remember us?, the words repeating in your head as you stared back at the brown haired boy. Now that your attention was on him and him only, you noticed the smallest of ears picking up from his hair, the color blend made it almost invisible. He was not a human, he was a bear hybrid, and you remembered exactly where you met him for the first time.
The police station was a complete chaos that day. It was a sudden change from the monotony of the small town your father started working at the beginning of his career. There was at least double the people walking left and right. Doing what? You’d never know, but it seemed important enough that you’re too scared to interrupt any of them to ask where was the bathroom, much less your father. He was not in the best mood since you moved, and you hated to be the reason for more stress. Also, he busied himself in conversations you could only watch from a distance, not even keeping his eyes on you sat at an old chair.
He won’t even notice that I left…, how stupid of you.
You wandered off, walking next to the walls so no one would bump into you while carrying a stack of thick papers. There was no sign of a bathroom in the room you were, you didn’t even know where you were, no idea it was the heart of that police station.
You kept walking further and further out of the room into the empty hallways at the back, ignoring the signs at the top of each door, too focused on the triangle dress symbol you couldn’t find. You turned right, but you only found a single wooden door.
The sight was discouraging to say the least.
You sighed, or you thought you did, because you heard it, but it didn’t seem like it came out of your own mouth. Then you heard another sigh, now you were sure it wasn’t you.
You stared at the door a little longer, then up to the sign at the top of it, it said ‘RH waiting room’. You didn’t even know what RH was. A waiting room so far back? Maybe there is a bathroom inside of it. That was enough for you to grab the handle, but it wouldn’t open.
“You have to be kidding me”, you said as you looked up to the ceiling, but you hoped all the gods above could see your disappointment. You were out of luck for the 4th time this week.
Inside the room, there was only silence, something you didn’t notice right away. If you were there, you would be able to feel the tension and fear as the hybrid stared at the door.
“Hey, is there a bathroom in here?”, Jongho repeated the first words you said to him back to you. “You remember now, yeah?”, he could see the embarrassment coming back as you recalled what happened after that, which made him giggle with the others.
You never remembered that moment as funny, because your father told you what RH stood for and why anyone would be there in the first place. But he did.
“Wait, that’s actually the first thing you said to him?”, the one with the bunny ears asked, while laughing so hard he almost fell.
“Yes, I did Min…” you tried to recall as he leaned forward, a glee of expectation in his face as you said his name. “…gi, of course, Mingi”, you said as casually as you could.
He seemed so happy, you felt bad that it was whispered to you behind his back. You would get to it eventually, he did make a good impression of himself when you first saw him too.
“I do think I remember each one of you”, you said as you looked at each of them, one getting harder to greet than the other, until you reached the last two, Yunho and Hongjoong. They didn’t seem to hold any grudges against you, Yunho smiling wider than Hongjoong, but that was a given considering the little you knew about their personalities.
“It’s okay if you don’t, it’s been quite a while”, the blonde boy gestured it wasn’t a big deal with his hands. “I’m Yunho”.
“You didn’t have blonde hair back then…”, you trailed off as you remembered the one day you wished to forget.
“Nor the height, it’s truly unfair”, Wooyoung said with a sad tone as he gave the blonde one a side eye, but his fluffy red tail continued to bounce back and right with energy.
That comment made everyone giggle a little, even yourself. It was true, he grew up well that one, he seemed well nurtured too. That thought calmed your heart a bit.
“So can we sit, then?”, Mingi asked then sighed as if he was standing for hours by the table. Even his long bunny ears were tired of standing on top of his head, alert of all movement around him. He got one lightweight slap on the arm for that. “Ow… why-“, before he could whine, you interrupted.
“Of course, but there’s no-, Hongjoong, Yunho and San already went to get some extra chairs before you could finish the phrase, while the other 5 got comfortable in their sits.
Only then you noticed they wouldn’t be eating since there were no plates
“Do you guys want some?”, you asked as you looked down at your food.
They all declined, including the three ones that just came back with chairs, but you could see some of them eyeing your fries for a bit too long, so you slid the plate to the middle of the table.
“So, every single one of you came to study here, and this is a complete coincidence or this conversation has another purpose than to chitchat?”
In your mind, there was a clear answer. They wanted something from you, and you’ll be glad to give it to them if you could, but what can you do when the cases closed so many years ago?
“We saw you around campus”, Wooyoung said as he leaned over the table, you noticed one of his hands holding onto San’s arm, just like you remembered. “We didn’t think you would recognize us, though”, Hongjoong added after a beat of silence.
“So you followed me here? I don’t get it”, you looked at each one of them.
“No, w-”, Jongho said, but then looked at San and Yunho’s guilty smiles and back to you. “Kind of, some of us saw you around two other times, we weren’t sure it was you the first time, but your scent didn’t change much from back then…”, his voice losing its confidence and volume by the end of the phrase.
“We hoped you would be here, we did not see you today”, Seonghwa cut him off as he leaned forward. His smile was shy, but you could see it was sincere. “That’s the only time of the day we all have to be together before dinner, so don’t worry, we weren’t stalking you together like this”, he giggled while talking and then gestured to them all at the end of the phrase.
The effort Seonghwa had to make to not cover himself with his ears were more than he could express. He was glad his tail was out of sight, clinging to Hongjoong’s thighs in search of some comfort.
It was a weird feeling to be in front of you after so long, and Seonghwa knew the others would agree. He noticed how Yeosang was uncomfortable, readjusting his position on the chair every so often, and how San’s legs bounced without him even noticing.
“Well, that’s good to know”, it was easy for you to smile when they were being so adorable without even making an effort. “But that doesn’t really answer my question, so did you guys just wanted to talk?”
On one side, you had Mingi and Yeosang barely looking at you, at anyone for that matter. Then you had Hongjoong and San, apparently the air was so dry to the point they needed to wet their lips every 3 seconds. Seonghwa, Jongho and Yunho were too awkward to say it first, they could only smile to try to hide their own embarrassment. Wooyoung was eating to keep himself calm.
“Is it that bad?”, your joke made Yunho and Seonghwa giggle and shook their heads. “Then you can tell me, it’s okay, did I make that big of an impression in some of you when we met?”, it was supposed to be a joke, they were supposed to laugh.
But all of them nodded. In such a serious way, too, they weren’t awkward smiling anymore. Their staring suddenly became intense. You couldn’t pretend they didn’t mean it, and you didn’t know what to do with that information.
What could you say? You didn’t do anything to help them, you couldn’t do anything at that age and with the little independence you had. Not to them, nor any other hybrid who stepped foot into that police station.
Your silence spoke for you, and your surprise spoke more than you intended to.
“We just wanted to see how you were doing and to show you how we were doing”, Hongjoong broke the silence.
“I’m glad you all are doing well”, they recognize a certain softness as you said those words, they knew you meant it from your heart.
It was this softness you carried with you whenever you spoke to them that made such a big impression. Humans tend to be harsher while talking to hybrids, maybe because they couldn’t see themselves in their position to be kinder or because they thought hybrids were born stronger and less emotional, they wouldn’t care about those things, right? Up until they met themselves, the only kind one was you, even when it was so brief they barely met your eyes.
“You weren’t even scared”, you barely heard Yeosang’s voice, but the other boys heard him as clear as the day.
He seemed like he was in another world, since he wasn’t looking to anyone in particular. Yeosang jumped out his skin when Seonghwa nudged him on his ribcage. The red colored his cheeks, ears, and nape as Wooyoung did a poor job at hiding his laughter.
You did laugh yourself, but you cleared your throat. “Who wasn’t even scared?
“Hmm, you, you didn’t seem scared when we came by”, Yeosang said as he searched for something to look at to calm himself down, but you did deserve the respect of being look at while being spoken to, so he ignored his instincts and all the bullshit he learned to look at you.
“Why would I be scared of you?”, you said as you watched all of them.
That didn’t even cross your brain, you only realized now. You were too busy wondering why someone would break the ultimate rule of society ‘do no talk to someone wearing headphones’, because that would be much more rare than a hybrid attack out of nowhere. Okay, that wasn’t a real statistic, but it could be.
Yeosang thought you were talking about him for a moment, but then he noticed it wasn’t the case. It was clear no one would ever be scared of Yeosang or Seonghwa, they were at the bottom of the hierarchy, even Wooyoung wouldn’t scare many hybrids, much less many humans. The other 5 were a different matter. By their tails only, one would know they were predators hybrids. Jongho could be underestimated, but smart eyes could tell he was a bear hybrid and not to be messed with.
They were surprised by your genuine question, including Hongjoong, but he felt like he shouldn’t be. You seemed to be just like the kid he met.
“Most people would, but you don’t seem like you are capable of being scared of hybrids, do you?”, Hongjoong said as he observed your body language.
His words carried more meaning than he let it show to the others, but you got it, of course, you did. You also remembered.
“Guess my mom was right when she said I’m not like everyone else then”.
“Fuck, I missed you”, those were the first words San said to you and it caught everyone off guard.
It sounded so genuine and raw, San himself didn’t know what to do now that he said it. Until now, he was observing, checking in with all of the others body languages and emotions, Wooyoung’s more than the others only because he was right beside him. But his own emotions were boiling inside of him, he had to say something to you, but he couldn’t find the right words, well, until now.
Wooyoung was only surprised by the sudden emotion coming from San, but he couldn’t say he was surprised he felt that way in the first place. You must not know to this day what truly happened to them when they met you, but your kindness was the only thing they had to hold themselves onto and if it was up to him, you would never know.
“I’m- I-“, Choi San was blushing like a school girl and that was enough for all chaos break loose.
The other students couldn’t help, but get curious to know what the hell was so funny as laughter dominated the whole cafeteria and to know who were those hybrids that no one saw before.

TWO MASTERLIST FOUR

You were always an early riser. The sun was breaking its first lights on the horizon as you got ready for the day, but there wasn’t a single bone of excitement in you.
Your room reflected the mask you were trying hard to wear early in the morning, spotless and perfectly organized, that was until anyone noticed how messy your bed still was.
You feel asleep early for any college major, but somehow slept a total of 4 hours only. None of them knocked on your door, and you didn’t hear a single peep or saw any lights on from your own slightly open door. They were capable of managing themselves well, you knew that, so you closed the door and were left to your own thoughts for the rest of the night.
Your brain wouldn’t stop running to all the things you needed to do while waiting for a more appropriate hour of the day to actually do them. It was a suffocating feeling, and you hated to feel so impotent. So you cleaned everything you came across at 12 A.M. trying to be as quiet as possible, too restless and tired of all the toss and turn you did already.
You walked out of your room, and it was almost like every single worry you had all night was just in your head. The cop, the plan, your father, they’re now living with you, the shopping you need to do, the paperwork you have to get, their legal documents you have to find wasn’t splashed on the beige walls and the cold porcelain of the floor, so maybe you could just ignore it before your coffee.
“Good morning”, Seonghwa said as you reached the 3/4 of the stairs, now sure that you could see him on the couch and he wouldn’t scare you. Still, he did notice how you grabbed harder on the handrail and had a hard time trying not to smile, but his ears twitching could give him away. “I’m sorry”.
“It’s ok”, you chuckled. “Have you been up for a while?”, you asked as you reached the bottom of the stairs.
“No”, he looked over to the windows, the sunrise clear on the horizon. “I did not even notice how early it was until I came up here”.
It was partly true, there were no windows on the basement area, instead a huge glass door that lead to the pool on the other end of the corridor. He did not see the sun rising and did not take notice of the time, he just did not sleep at all.
“Want some coffee?”, you said as you went around the living room to the kitchen.
“Sure, thank you”, he said, but made no moves to follow you.
Seonghwa was enjoying the quiet to put his thoughts in order, something he couldn’t do lately. The last week took a toll on the whole pack to the point their scents changed a little due to stress. Nothing was planned and neither him nor Hongjoong wanted to put their trust and safety solely on your words.
Your presence on itself was something he couldn’t decide how he felt about it yet. It was annoying how submissive and fake most of them got in your presence, including Jongho, which was a shocking sight back on campus. It was in Seonghwa’s nature to be attentive and caring towards others, he was aware of it, but he only offers that to his pack and pack only. There were no humans left that are worthy of that, Jongho himself said to him once. Yeah, he saw you before. All of them ended up on the hybrid protection department at least twice until now. You were just a human child bored out of your mind. What’s so special about it?
“Here it is”, you left the mug on top of the coffee table, eye smiled at him and then left.
Seonghwa was paralyzed on his spot. He did not hear your steps nor your closeness to him. Now the only thing he could hear was his own-scared heart.
There was a dark cloud on top of Seonghwa’s head, so you give him his coffee quick and left him alone on the couch.
Now, you had at least a whole hour until you had to leave to take the subway. It was enough time to make a small breakfast for yourself and revise your notes for today, but not to make a decent meal for 9 freaking people.
You went to grab your coat near the entrance, even though in less than an hour it would be boiling hot outside.
“Can you tell the other boys I’m grabbing food for us?”, you raised your voice as you looked over Seonghwa, at least 10 feet away, still on the same spot as you left him starting at the wall.
He winced because of your loud tone, and you signed, now aware of your mistake.
“It won’t take long, sorry”, you just left, it felt like the best thing to do.
Perfect, you said to yourself.
Perfect, Seonghwa said to himself.
He knew some of the others could mess up this new arrangement out of guilt for searching around your father’s office, but he couldn’t let it happen.
Yunho was the first to walk downstairs, the both of them needed to have a little chat.
You could only hear the click and clack of the cutlery hitting the porcelain plates. For a table with 9 people, it was quieter than when you eat on your own.
The house was always just that, a house, a balance between a safe place for you to rest in and someone else’s property that you had no control over, but never you felt so uncomfortable in it.
The night before you noticed how proper Yunho and Jongho were, but now, looking at all of them, it seemed forced. It was, because it was. Of course, they were trained to be.
“You are really serious about food, aren’t you?”, you couldn’t take the silence anymore.
Most of them nodded, a small chuckle giving a little bit of life to the table. It was true, call hybrid instincts or whatever, but they meant business when it came to food, but they knew very well there was more than that to the atmosphere in the room, and it was best for you to stay unaware of it.
“It’s just that good”, Mingi said suddenly, as he took another bite of the fresh croissant. “Melting on my mouth”, he mumbled more to himself than anything, still a little shocked at how good it was.
Your neighbors glaring at you as you left with four filled bags out of the small bakery three blocks away was worth it.
“You should have it as a sandwich later”, you said, more than happy to have an actual conversation.
Mingi wanted to hear all about your best recommendations, while San, Yunho and Hongjoong had a staring contest.
Wooyoung, San and Yeosang, a trio you never imagined would work well together, but somehow it did.
On the way to university, you found out, actually, the three of them were dance majors, not just Wooyoung. To your surprise, Yeosang did most of the talking for them this time.
In all honesty, Yeosang just wanted to hide in a hole and disappear. Never in his life he thought he’d want Wooyoung to talk more or that he would wait for a miracle, but at that moment, he caught himself doing both.
Every single loud noise made him jump out of his skin, from the sound of the rails to the loud people talking on the phone. It was all too much all at once. Your attention on him and him only was new, his face was all red, and he couldn’t look into your eyes. His hands hugged his bag against his own chest, but the weight wasn’t enough. If it wasn’t for two hands on his thighs, a clear sign of protection and sureness, he wouldn’t be talking at all.
Bless your heart, you gave every bit of encouragement and reaction to every thing he said, but it was not helping.
“S-so, we were trai-”, Yeosang already small voice was interrupted by the announcement of the next station. The doors closed, and you held tighter onto the pole as it started to move again.
“Training for what?”, you asked as you did your best to maintain the space between you and San’s body.
“There is a performance at the end of the year”, Wooyoung said it, faster than Yeosang could think.
“That’s so cool, so there’s a date already?”
She thinks am I cool? It was unconscious how all of them perked up at the compliment. Wooyoung tail seemed like it had a mind of his own, swaying left to right. Yeosang turned even more red in the face, his fluffy gray ear covering the sides of his face as he recoiled between the two bodies on each side of him. San cleaned his throat as he looked the other way, he was not comfortable with how much he enjoyed it hearing such a small compliment from you.
Yeosang was a few beats late when he noticed you were still waiting for an answer.
“Oh, hum, no, I d-do not think so, right?”, he looked over to the other boys, who agreed.
“We’ll let you know so you can come see us”, Wooyoung said as he rubbed Yeosang’s back slowly.
“I’d love that, thank you, but are you sure it’s okay for me to come?”, you asked him, then glanced at San, who was already looking at you.
“We want you to come”, San said.
He said a ‘we’, when you were looking for an ‘I’.
It was a painful and awkward silent the rest of the way, until the three of you could breathe again.
“It’s not here”, Seonghwa said a second time since coming back to your father’s office.
He was already tired due to a sleepless night, now he had to spend all his energy to look for papers that weren’t even there.
“Then look again, it has to be here somewhere”, Hongjoong was loosing all his patience as he analyzed every single paper they found left on his desk.
Seonghwa took a deep breath. Hongjoong was being unreasonable, all of them already knew that, including Hongjoong himself.
“You know there’s no reason for why he would leave that behind, and it’s clear he hasn’t been here in a good while, so why are we doing this again?”, Seonghwa put the old box down on the table, all of it was useless anyway.
“This might be the only lead we get, do you just want to give up on him?”, the last two words barely a whisper as Hongjoong took a step closer to Seonghwa, the papers left scarred inside the drawer.
Both of them did not want Yunho, Mingi or Jongho to hear what was going on up there.
Standing so close to each other like this, eye to eye, they could almost touch the emotions swirling in the room. It was frustrating to Hongjoong. They had a goal and a chance, so why would they fail Yunho now? His anger, resentment and fear towards himself more than anything filled the room and suffocated both of them. Seonghwa looked nothing but empathetic and warm and welcoming to Hongjoong’s fears and worries, even when he could only feel the opposite, Hongjoong’s presence almost physically pushing him out.
It took Hongjoong only a moment to give up, which furthered Seonghwa’s worries.
“We’re going to figure it out”, Seonghwa whispered as he kneeled by Hongjoong’s side. He collapsed on the office floor, now holding onto himself. “We always do, don’t we?”
Hongjoong’s eyes seemed unfocused looking down to something on the ground, Seonghwa’s words barely registered in his mind.
When Seonghwa touched his shoulder, Hongjoong looked up to him.
“We always do, don’t we?”
“We do”, he sighed.
Seonghwa wished to say much more at that moment, but Hongjoong in that state would not hear it.
So he only did what he should do, offered a helping hand for Hongjoong to stand once more.
By the end of the day, you did all you could to not go back.
You called Jongho to tell him to get the food delivery when it was close enough to the house. He was surprised, jacket already on hand to buy lunch himself, but it was too late for a polite decline.
The bell rang and you hung up.
You did not come to eat with them, even though you had over two free hours in between classes, but they did not know that and even if they did, would they really call you out on it? It was more comfortable for them that way, so they could be free to behave like they wished to.
You stayed to study on the library after class, which you never did, you rather the comfort and quiet of your room for that, and it was barely 4 p.m.
The list was your salvation to skip dinner. This time, Jongho had time to thank you for the meal in the name of them all.
“It’s not a bother, don’t worry”, you said as you walked out of the second store, bags in hand and the phone tight between your shoulders and left cheek.
“We can cook for ourselves, you know. Don’t you trust us?”, he had that pouting voice through every word, and it took a small smile out of you.
“Of course I do, but you’re my guests and there’s a clear rule, guest don’t do any work around the house, so get used to it”, those words hit him like bricks when you thought it was a string of fresh water.
It was silent on the other side of the line, and you thought the call ended.
“Are you alright?”, his question caught you so off guard, you stopped walking in the middle of the busy street and a woman bumped into you with full force.
“Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?”, you smiled to her, but the woman didn’t look back to see your apologetic self.
Your voice was sincere, so Jongho allowed himself to stay calm.
She does not know, she’s not mad at you, he kept repeating to his stupid mind. Of course, you did not know and were not avoiding them on purpose because of it, but he felt his heart heavy still.
“We were just worried, you didn’t say anything so… but you’re safe then?”
“I’m coming soon, alright? Don’t worry about me, I’m just shopping for some stuff I need”, you walked faster, now feeling guilty to left them without a proper warning.
The moment Jongho hung up, the other 7 were waiting for an update. The winter night and the neighborhood made it seem later than it was. It was only 6:28 p.m., but there wasn’t a single soul outside and barely any noticeable noise.
“She’s coming soon”.
Mingi plopped on the couch, relieved. He barely talked to you, yet your presence and actions warmed him, and maybe he was getting too comfortable too fast, but just the thought of you leaving them now made him want to sob.
Yunho sat beside him and Mingi’s gray ears turned to him instinctively, but he had nothing to say. He knew Mingi well enough to know this meant something else to him, it was the possibility of another person abandoning him, and he was ashamed as it was of it. So Yunho did not point it out how that mentality wasn’t good for him at that moment, just offered his arm, that Mingi was elated to accept and cuddle with.
“Do not forget what we talked about today, can you do that Mingi?”, Seonghwa’s toned softened as he talked to him, a bit different from the actual conversation they all had.
Mingi only nodded.
It was a reminder for Yunho and Yeosang as well, no matter how they felt about the topic, they’d do their best to keep the roof on top of their heads.
Before you could grab the keys in your purse, the door suddenly opened.
You watched with your heart on your feet as a yearning Wooyoung took all four bags out of your hands and disappeared inside, too stunned to say anything.
“Uhm, Wooyoung, were you waiting for me?”, you asked as you stepped inside and closed shut the door behind you.
He hummed instead of answering you.
Beside him, there was no one in the living room, and the lack of noises was enough for you to assume they wanted to keep to themselves.
He carefully laid down your bags on the couch, then stood there with a small smile on his face.
“Is there anything else I can do to help you?”, he stood there shy and small in front of you.
The contrast of his behavior from yesterday evening to this gave you whiplash. Is this Wooyoung, or that was Wooyoung? You need to stop trying to figure them out. They carried huge baggage with them, and maybe you’ll never get to see even a small percentage of it, that was clear to you. Still, it is hard to be the one that had to pretend and ignore the elephant in the room.
“Yes, there is actually, but can we talk for a bit first?”
Wooyoung’s tail stopped its course in the air and his smile faltered, he nodded.
Both of you sat slightly turned to each other, but Wooyoung could not hold your stare, so he looked at the painting on the wall instead.
He thought his minds was playing tricks on him, but you seemed much nervous than he was. Your body was screaming to get out of there and run just like his. What could they’ve done for you to be so tense? Surely, you were not scared of him if you weren’t even scared of Hongjoong or San.
You took a deep breath. Your own mind exhausted you the whole evening and night because of this very moment, you were tired of overthinking every single thing they did.
“I just want to make it clear, so we can stop walking on eggshells around each other”, your voice was barely a whisper, still Wooyoung flinched at the reminder of his own confusing behavior towards you, just like San he’s been hot and cold to you for no reason, when you’ve been nothing but nice to him. “I want you and the others to be here, and you do not have to do anything because you feel like you have to please me in return, can you understand that?”
He nodded.
“I am also not mad at you by any means because of yesterday”.
That made him look at you, because you deserved at least that level of respect, even though your face was a bit blurry through his tears. He knew your kindness was undeserving, and he would do anything to compensate for it, no matter what you say.
You wished to hug him, and maybe he read your mind, because a second later, Wooyoung launched himself into your arms.
It was a silent cry at first, you were stunned in place, surprise by the trust and vulnerability he was showing to you, then you heard his sobs and the sound broke your heart, you never heard before and never wanted to hear again.
You held him tight through the soft tears, loud cries and slurred words he muttered under his breath on your shoulder. Even when your arms stared to hurt, he did not let it go, so neither did you.
It was comfortable to be near you like this, for the first time Wooyoung understood why San liked you so much, and that did not leave a bitter taste in his mouth this time. You were warm and kind and really soft, almost better than his favorite blanket.
“Wooyoung”, you broke your little bubble, and he hummed into your neck. “Can you call the others for me, please? I bought some clothes for you all to try on”.
He was perfectly comfortable in that position, leaning into your side and the last thing on his mind was to move away, but the moment he looked at your soft eyes and pretty smile, he got up.
He should not be understanding San in this way.

“It’s not a bother, don’t worry”, you said as you walked out of the second store, bags in hand and the phone tight between your shoulders and cheeks.
“We can cook for ourselves, you know. Don’t you trust us?”, he had that pouting voice through every word, and it took a small smile out of you.
“Of course I do, but you’re my guests and there’s a clear rule, guest don’t do any work around the house, so get used to it”, those words hit him like bricks when you thought it was a string on fresh water.
Then, you knew he was trying his best to charm you, and he did. So was he not like that usually, or will he not be like that to you?
They carried huge baggage with them, and maybe you’ll never get to figure out even a small percentage of it, that was clear to you.
“I just want to make it clear, so we can stop walking on eggshells around each other”, your voice was barely a whisper, still Wooyoung flinched at the reminder of his own confusing behavior towards you, just like the others he’s been hot and cold to you for no reason, when you’ve been nothing but nice to him.

Summary: You weren't really the lonely girl™ of campus, but it does feel like it when you look around, and there's no one by your side when everyone else are talking and whispering between each other. You did have "friends", more like "group projet friends" that you managed to get for yourself, but they were the ones that were real close, you were there only when they had an extra empty seat. But it seems like the gods above took your nonchalant facade as a challenge. Oh, you don't think you need friends to survive through college? Bet.

“Sure, thank you”, he said but made no moves to follow you.
Your presence on itself was something, he couldn’t decide how he felt about it yet.
Now, you had the least a whole hour until you had to leave to take the subway.
She thinks, am I cool?
