Darth Revan & Bastila (accepting both sides of the Force)

Revan was silent for a minute, then said, "You have been misled by your so-called teachers. Light Side, Dark Side, you see them only as good and evil. In truth, they are so much more."

"Oh? Then what are they?" Bastila asked incredulously.

Revan began to explain his philosophy. "The Light Side is the, shall we say, wider area of the Force. It consists of the, for lack of a better word, 'higher' emotions. Selflessness, self-sacrifice, compassion. All of them are very positive things. But the Light Side ignores the more human emotions. If you limit oneself to the Light Side, you lose touch with your natural emotions."

Bastia had to interrupt. "Even if I believe you, which I don't, isn't that a good thing? Human emotions, selfish emotions; they only bring down a Jedi in the end. That's why we keep them under control, so our judgement is not clouded."

Revan shook his head. "You misunderstand. Many more basic emotions are not selfish. Personal love and happiness are not, but they form part of the Dark Side. You have been raised, Bastila, to see the Light and Dark Sides to firmly represent good and evil, but you are wrong. Yes, anger and rage are part of the Dark Side, but so are love and passion. No, the Dark Side is not evil, it only comes from natural, human emotions."

Bastila considered his words. It was an interesting philosophy, but she knew Revan was either lying, or deluded.

"I am not deluded, Bastila. In fact, I will be your first Master who is not. The Jedi have it all wrong, Bastila. The danger is not using the Dark Side. No, the danger is becoming too limited on one side of the Force. Only focusing on the Dark Side can lead to your anger and greed consuming you. That is what happened to Malak."

For the first time, there was a hint of regret in Revan's voice. Did he feel remorseful for what had become of his friend? Maybe he...no, Sith felt no remorse. Whatever Revan said, they were evil, and Bastila knew that.

"On the other hand, becoming blind to all but the Light Side is also very dangerous. Over time, you lose touch with your humanity. In the end, you become nothing more than an emotionless puppet. Eventually, you stop truly caring about those you protect. You start to help others only out of a sense of duty, and deep down, you don't actually care anymore."

Gray Jedi are problematic because classic Star Wars is a fairy tale. A characteristic feature of fairy tales is the victory of good over evil. So the main story should be about that.

To use the dark side, you must dedicate yourself to it. The dark side is tempting and if you are under its control, you cannot use the light side. The Dark Side is like a drug or a classical disease. Therefore, it is almost impossible to use it without falling to the dark side.

So I recently saw a post with a screencap of this scene in it:

And good heavens. Is this not a perfect visual metaphor of Obi-Wan's role in the entire Star Wars universe? Supporting the wounded Light, unable to stop her from dying, but still steadfastly good and patient up to and through the darkest hour, waiting (though he doesn't know it, yet) for that Light to be reborn in a padawan?

The Old Master Voolvif Monn Do to the fact that it is Star Wars day, I had to seek out a piece of art that was most worthy of today. Unfortunately, I could not find one, so I went to that one bar that Han Solo was first seen in, and some one told me of a Jedi master that howled at the moons of, to be honest, I didn't pay attention to what planet he said, so I brought him alone. That was a mistake as he turned out to be one of the empire's goons. before he could do his evil empire stuff to me, he was lifted off the ground and gobbled bu by an old wolf with an emerald glowing sword. My gosh! It was him! Voolvif Monn. He had survived. I was more than relieved. Needless to say, He had put on a few pounds since he had went int hiding from the empire and first order, but he still had that good ol wolfy feel to him that made me just adore him. In all seriousness though, this guy was greatly underused. There was even a contest to vote for who was going to be in the 5 minute episodes of the Clone Wars. I had forgotten who else was available, but it didn't matter, because one of the jedi choices was a freaking wolf! Unfortunately, he never had any dialogue or any real impact in the story, other than hacking and slashing enemies. Not that I have a problem with that, but come one, Jedi wolf! That deserves a bit more attention. Well, if anything, he is alive and well, so happy Star Wars day everyone, and May the 4th, er....force be with you. Semester is over and i finally have the time to do my own stuff again! Had the idea of star wars graphics so here's my first one, the resistance sign ~ Will also do a first order one :3
