Little Talks

“Oh hey there Commander Hugs!”

“It’s General Hux and I know that you know that.”

“Right. Well sorry for taking over your comms again but it just makes it a lot easier for us to escape.”

Hux turns to the comms station, “Get her off my comms NOW!”

“So whatcha doin? First order stuff?”

Hux walks between all the stations helpless to do anything about the hacked comms. “This is the third time. SOMEONE FIX THIS!!” He spits.

“Alrighty, well since you don’t want to chat and we have successfully stolen your fuel...”

“You will not escape! You can not run from the first order. We will hunt you down and...”

“Hey Hugs?”

“...........What?”

“Everyone is already gone.....Yeah. Alright talk soon!”

Hux’s face grew even more red and his blood began to boil.

“Sir?” He turns to the comms station to see a young lieutenant addressing him, “we have regained control of the comms.”

“Oh good!” He shouts dripping with sarcasm.

——-

This was like your new favorite sport. They couldn’t figure out how you had been hacking their comms so you just kept it up.

“Captain Hugs? Is that you?”

“It’s General, Commander [Y/L/N].” He has given up on correcting his name, opting to believe you had a speech impediment.

“Oh my gosh! A promotion! That’s exciting!”

“Commander, you can keep up this little game but that won’t stop up from finding you and-“

“Wait, hold on......”

Hux scrunched his face as silence filled the ship.

“Hugs, you there?”

“Yes... I haven’t left”

“I have though. And the mission was successful. Ryloth thanks you for the rations!”

Hux’s lets out a sigh and closes his eyes, knowing what comes next. “Sir, comms have returned.”

“I’ll be in my office.”

———-

“What did they get this time?” The modulated voice rang out from across the desk.

Hux really hated him but he was the only person he could really talk to about this. “Just some rations.” He leaned back in his chair. “If they weren’t stealing from us, I’d honestly be impressed.”

“By the Commander?” Kylo tilts his head. He’d seen the admiration growing in Hux. He was like a child. A girl was kicking sand in his face and calling him names so of course he was developing a crush.

“I don’t know how she keeps taking over the comms.”

“She’s making you look like a fool.”

“She’s making the communication officers look like fools.”

“You like her.”

“I respect her as an advisary. She has gumption.”

Kylo laughed, the metallic sounds somehow seeming to mock Hux even more than normal laughter. “You keep telling yourself that General, meanwhile I’ll be putting an end to her treachery.”

————-

As the troopers drag you into the interrogation room, you try to calm your breathing and prepare yourself. You can take comfort in the fact you that the mission was a success. Sacrificing yourself was an easy choice to let the transport escape. The troopers lock down your arms and legs and you give them a customary tug. Yep. Escaping this one won’t be easy.

———

“I have a present for you, General.” Kylo proclaims before walking away with Hux in tow.

“What’s that?” He hurried his pace to catch up and walk along side him.

“Your men helped me get it for you.”

Hux looked around realizing they were walking towards the interrogation rooms. Kylo stopped and punched in codes opening the doors and walking in. Hux followed him slowly.

“General,” Kylo extend an arm as if showing off a prize on a game show. “Your Commander [Y/L/N].”

Hux starred at you for a moment. Your eyes were more [y/e/c] than he imagined.

Kylo walked back over to Hux. “I’ll leave you to it.” He leans in closer and speaks in a hushed tone. “Find out where their base is and rid yourself of this silly distraction.”

The door closed behind Kylo and Hux gulped, turning to you.

“General... Hux?” You decided now may not be the best time to give him the customary sass that is normal between you.

Hux took a step closer. “Yes. It’s... uh... nice to meet you... officially.”

You look down at your current situation. “Yeah, real nice.”

Hux moved to the control panel and released the restraints.

You fell forward a bit, not expecting the release and Hux moved to catch you, helping you regain your balance. You linger in his arms for a moment. “Thank you.” You whisper, not completely sure what’s happening.

“Did he hurt you?” Hux asks, seemingly genuinely concerned.

You shake your head, “No.”

Hux breathes a sigh of relief. “Good.” He looks around the room briefly, “I need to get you out of here.”

He puts a hand behind your back and starts to guide you to the door. You stop in your track and turn back to him. “Why are you helping me?!” You look at him wide eyed.

Hux gulps again. “You’re a worthy advisary.” He smiles, “and I actually think it’s kind of clever... the comms, our talks.”

A slight smile creeps across your face.

“And if I don’t get you out, he’ll be back. And that’s bad for both of us.” Hux knew that if he didn’t get intel from her, Kylo would and he would report the failure to Snoke. “Come on.”

Opening the door and the hall, Hux pulled you by the hand into an all out run. Making your way to the hanger, you went to a small dock to the side of the main hanger. “Here. This is my command shuttle. They should let you go without fuss. I don’t signal my departures and I won’t alert them until your clear.”

You immediately start to board before turning around and walking up to him. You reach up to his shoulders and gently lift yourself onto you tip toes and lean into kiss his cheek. “Thank you.”

His face goes flush and he smiles. “Okay. Make it look convincing.” He point to his cheek and you know exactly what he means. You cock back your arm and clock him, knowing where to strike to leave him conscious but with a big convincing shiner. As you start to board the ship again he calls out, “I am going to figure out how you’re hacking our comms!”

You turn and smile, “I hope not. I’ll be looking forward to our talks.”

———-

A few months had passed. You were out in the hanger making some necessary improvements to your X-wing when a voice startled you. “Did you hear? You’re a hero!” You see Calvin running up to you looking like he had just taken down the whole First Order. “What do you mean?” You ask looking confused since your day had been relatively quiet. “They exiled him because of your thing with the comms and then we found him! Bagged and tagged! We caught ourselves a general!” Calvin put his hands in the air and walks off to another group of pilots who is celebrating. The First Order wasn’t like the Resistance. There weren’t many generals. And there was only one who you’d been recently making look the fool.

——-

You enter the brig area looking around and seeing just the one guard. “Hey there Brady, you know I’ve lost a couple guys because of this First Order scum. What do you say you give me a couple minutes alone?” Brady nodded before heading outside and closing the door behind him as you walk around the corner and see him sitting on the bench, head in his hands. His hair was longer than when you’d last met and he was sporting a new beard in addition to his overall disheveled look. “General Hux.” you call out causing him to lift his head and stand approaching the large glass that separated the two of you. “Commander. I knew you’d come for me.” You drop your head a moment, shaking as you bring your eyes to his. “Hux, I’m so sorry but I can’t let you out.” Hux face scrunches up, “What do you mean you can’t let me out? I let you out!” He gets as close to the glass as he can and puts a hand up. “It’s not the same thing!” You say trying to convince yourself as much as you were trying to convince him. “It’s exactly the same!” he says through gritted teeth. “You were captured behind enemy lines and I let you go at great expense to my own personal well-being. And here I am, captured behind enemy lines.” you could tell he was growing more frustrated. “You said if you didn’t get me out, we would both pay.” He throws his hands up into the air, “and if you don’t get me out I am the only one who will pay. Is that right? I see the difference now.” You put your hands up onto the glass, “Hey it’s not like that! No one here is going to hurt you!” you insist. Hux points to his blackeye, “what do you call this?” You let a small laugh trying not to be insensitive, “I heard you were resisting.” Hugs throws his arms up in the air again and walk towards the back of the cell. “Look, no one’s going to hurt you. We’re just taking you off the playing board.” He walks back to the glass with determination. “You owe me. Plus I thought…” he looks into your eyes for a moment. “...so stupid.” He mutters to himself and paces the cell. “You thought what?” He stops for a moment before deciding he has nothing to lose. “I know you felt it [Y/N]. Something between us.” Your eyes widen, shocked. “Hux, it’s impossible.” He rushes back over to the glass placing his hands opposite yours. “No it’s not.” He insists as you roll your eyes. “Are you willing to leave the First Order?” You put your hands on your hips indignantly. “Are you willing to leave the Resistance?” He retorts back. You give him a sad laugh, “See? Impossible.” He sighs for a moment looking down before returning to make eye contact. “What if there was no First Order and no Resistance.” You look into his eyes and see how genuine they are. But you know you couldn’t leave. “I’m sorry Hux. I just can’t.” You drop your hands from your hips and turn to leave. Hux stands there for a moment believing that all is lost.

——-

You’re reading mission notes from your data pad a few days later when a couple Lieutenants from Commander Stark’s unit come into the cafeteria laughing and high fiving one another. “You got him good!” “Now his face matches that orange mop.” “Ginger bastard deserved every minute.”

You look to them and stand, “What are you talking about?” One the the lieutenants came forwards. “Oh Commander Stark let us have some time with that First Order General. Rough him up a bit.” Your face went red with fury and you left storming into the general’s office. “Are you aware that Commander Stark allowed his men to rough up the prisoner?” The general looked up at you for a moment. “They lost three of their unit on the mission last week. What’s the harm in letting off a little steam.” You are pissed. Livid. You had promised him safety and this wasn’t the organization you believed in. “I see now” you smile dripped the sarcasm and you left his office.

————

You had sounded the base wide alarm, claiming an incoming attack on the north side of the base drawing all troops away from the hanger and the brig area. “Brady! The General said get to the front! I’ll secure the prisoner!” Poor gullible Brady went running as you rounded the corner. You were shocked when you saw him. He was a bloodied mess, laying on the floor unmoving. “Kriff.” You curse as you unlock the door and rush to his side gently putting one hand on his back and attempting to brush the blood crusted hair from his face. This was far beyond being roughed up. “Hux! Hux wake up. I gotta get you out of here.” You shake him a bit causing him to stir. The moment he moves, he immediately hisses in pain. “It’s okay, I got you.” You slowly help him to his feet as you guide his arm over your shoulder, his other arm wraps protectively around his mid section. “You came back.” He huffs out through obviously labored breaths. “Yeah.” You slowly walk with him out of the brig. “You were right. About everything”

———

You gently lower him down onto the floor of the small cargo vessel and take off ignoring the threats coming from the comms. You make the jump to hyperspace heading for the outer rim. A sigh of relief escapes your lips as the weight of your actions washes over you. You turn when you hear Hux stirring and rush to his side, keeping him where he lay. “Easy. I’m getting you to a med center.” His face is covered in dried blood as his unfocused eyes meet yours. “Thank you.” You stand quickly coming back with a towel and a bottle of water. “Don’t thank me. I let this happen.” You hold the wet towel to his cheek, wiping away the dried blood to reveal some extensive bruising. “But you saved me.” He smiles at you as his eye lids fall heavy. You grab for some clothes and then lift under his arms to bring him into a sitting position. You begin undoing the tattered remains of his uniform, “Hey!” He looks at you trying to swat your hand away but you continue until you open the jacket to reveal even more bruising. This explains why he had been protecting his ribs. “Oh Hux...” you feel awful. His body is limp like a rag doll allowing you to work quickly to remove the uniform. You lean his torso into you so you can remove the jacket and he nestled into your shoulder. Both of you smile at this. When he’s shed the last remnants of the First Order you shoot the uniform out an airlock so it can’t be traced back to you.

——

The bright white lights threaten his eyes as he blinks them into focus seeing the stark room around him. He panicked for a moment before he looks over and sees you asleep in a chair. He doesn’t intend to wake you but a small grown escapes his lips as he tries to move and you stir, awakening from your slumber. “Hey!” You’re delighted to see him awake as you reach to take his hand in yours. “How are you feeling?” The bruising on his face lessened but still present. “ I feel like a couple guys beat the ever loving kriff out of me.” You smile to match his. “So you’re feeling... accurate?” Getting up, you moved to sit on the side of his bed taking the hand that you are still clasping into your lap and brushing aside a piece of his hair from his forehead. “I’m so so sorry. I thought we were different. But it turns out, we’re the same.” He wasn’t sure if you were talking about him and you as individuals or the First Order in the Resistance but either way the statement was true. “Where are we?” “Cathar. No allegiances to anyone and no resources of real worth to speak of. We should be safe from everyone here.” Hux smiled up at you wondering if this was all just a dream brought on by a concussed mind. Maybe he was still back in the brig.

“Hey, you with me?” You ask bringing a hand to his cheek as he leans into the touch. “I’m with you.” he whispers. “So what’s the plan?” he asks and you shrug. “You any good at farming?” He starts to laugh before the pain from his broken ribs protests causing him to try and double over in pain. You try to hold him steady. “We’ll learn together then.” You assure him. “And maybe someday, I’ll share with you how I hacked your comms” Hux raised his eyebrows. “Someday?” You smile and laugh, “Yeah. Maybe that’ll be your birthday present... when is your birthday?” Hux smiled and then suddenly his face turned sad. “There are probably a great many things we should discuss before you make any long term plans to stay by my side.” He looked down at your hand, protecting his own. He thought about all the awful things he had done in his life. The things he had been through, the crimes he had committed. “Hey. I’m not going anywhere. There’s something between us. And now we have all the time in the galaxy to sort out the rest.” You lean and kiss his cheek like you had done once before, the first time you met. For once in his life, Hux felt happy.
