Namo Mandos. I Think Hed Be Able To Take A Decently Convincing Eldar Form Inside His Own Halls, But As

Namo Mandos. I think he’d be able to take a decently convincing eldar form inside his own halls, but as soon as he leaves it becomes more and more horrifying so he tends to wear dark cloaks/hoods so he doesn't scare anyone.

Namo headcanon

He does not exist within time, not truly, not like others of their order. Or rather, he does not experience time like others do.

It is a curious affliction he shares with his brother and his wife, although Irmo suffers it far less. A dreamer will always wake, but the dead are more...permanent. And Doom comes to many, those that have-been and never-were and will-be and should-have-been.

Sometimes, when he sees too much, he wishes another could have his job. Let Manwe have it, he wishes bitterly, so that at least he may understand the pain-anguish-terror his dearest brother has wrought upon Arda. Let the High King come down from his mountain and finally open his eyes to the suffering of what he claims are his people.

Time passes by him like a current that has pulled everyone else under, concealing a threat that lingers on the water’s surface that he can only catch glimpses of as he desperately tries to stay afloat. Irmo, in this metaphor, is a desperate survivor clinging to him as he surfaces for brief periods of time, oblivious to the oncoming danger.

Vaire is floating, everything visible to her, but she is unable to describe it in such a way that conveys the danger in any meaningful way until it has already passed.

He does not try to change the future. He has tried- sending Feanor to Formenos in the hope the smith would find happiness away from his brothers, setting a Doom upon the Noldor so they wouldn't leave can’t you comprehend the pain you bring on yourselves! You will find nothing but death and loss and suffering and you do not deserve it!

And it is for this reason he cannot hate any that enter his halls. Not even Feanor; bright and flaming and desperate to return to his sons. Not his sons who come to him, terrified and shaking shades of the vibrant happy ellons they were in life. Doom comes for all no matter how hard they fight it, and all he can do is sooth their hurts and temper their fears.

The Dagor Dagorath is coming. Pandemonium incarnate will break free of the Void and will ravage the world with its lover Wildfire at its side. Namo has Seen it, has lived it a million times over, will live it a million times over again until it suddenly becomes manifest far too late for him to realise it’s real.

For now though, the Doomsman is pulled into the current once again, and will act as Judge.

Mandos: *hands pressed together* The problem with you is that if I take my eyes off you for ONE MOMENT, you will immediately gravitate towards the biggest hellstorm you can find and jump right into the middle of it.

Fëanor: I have the right--

Mandos: If you can't find such a storm, you will inevitably spawn one in short order, centered on yourself.

Fëanor: I HAVE THE RIGHT TO BECOME THE METEOR I WANT TO STRIKE THE WORLD

"Something that I think is fascinating about Tarre Vizla is how the mandalorians (and mando stans) just do not care about who he was".

Maybe the Mandos see Tarre Vizla as a traitor.

Maybe the Mandos consider the darksaber a purely mandalorian weapon since it was made with mandalorian materials.

So the Mandos are more concerned with the Darksaber than Tarre Vizla.

NIENNA

NIENNA

She Who Weeps

The Lady Of Mercy

————

Nienna the Compassionate was an Ainu of grief, mourning, mercy and pity. During the song of Eru Ilúvatar, her music bore these things into being on Arda, welcoming grief and mercy to Middle Earth. Hers is a lesson of endurance of the spirit, hope, and, of course, pity. Her halls were raised upon the western cliffs of Valinor, and gazed out beyond sea to Walls of Night. She wrapped herself in shimmering gray robes that shined like tears.

When the Two Trees were in creation, her tears watered their roots to bring them life. She would play an important part in the reclamation of Melkor from his three age long imprisonment in the Halls of her brother’s domain, Mandos. While she had wept deeply and mourned the destruction of Arda wrought by her fellow Ainu, she was taken by pity at his begging when he sued for pardon from his sentence. Of all the Valor, Nienna spoke most on his behalf. While his inevitable betrayal must have caused her even greater anguish, the lesson of Nienna is to not regret compassion—but to learn from it.

Melkor left a great ruin, as is his way, when he fled Valinor. The greatest being the destruction of the Two Trees. Nienna wept at their mounds, and while her tears could heal, she could not cure them of Ungoliant’s poisons. However, between the efforts of herself and Yavanna, the Ainu of green life, the trees bore one last fruit and flower, which would become the Sun and Moon.

Of the Maiar in Valinor, her greatest pupil would be the future istar Olórin. She would teach him mercy, pity, and patience—and he would use these lessons to gift wisdom to the Elves in Valinor. He lived by example of Nienna, bestowing mercy upon the Children of Ilúvatar, taking counsel with them and leading them out of despair.

Long after Sauron had come to power and fallen in battle, the Valar chose five of the Maiar to travel to Middle Earth as Istari, to help all those who opposed the shadow of evil in Arda. Olórin was chosen—and would live his life in Middle Earth, in the guise of an old man and wanderer. The Elves would come to call him The Grey Pilgrim, or Mithrandir. The Dwarves would name him Tharkûn. But the Men of Arnor would name him Gandalf. And Gandalf is he.

Gandalf the Grey.

———————————

I think Gandalf wears his grey robes to honor his mentor. And when he returned to Valinor, he went to the Halls of Nienna; and I think, for an age at least, Nienna’s tears weren’t for the grief of Arda, but in joy for her dearest pupil and all that he’d accomplished.
