This is a remarkable essay about The Wife of Bath by Geoffrey Chaucer. It talks about the life & legacy of the Wife of Bath in great detail.
“Alison is a character whom readers across the centuries have usually seen as accessible, familiar, and, in a strange way, real. For many people she is by far the most memorable of the Canterbury pilgrims.”
This, too, is an essay on the Wife of Bath by Geoffrey Chaucer. & this one contains the answer to the question: Why is the Wife of Bath considered a feminist text?
Awh, that sucks. I could've used that essay a year ago during my uni's second semester exams 😂😂😂
I think everyone needs to see this art of Gawain in timeout
Manuscript time again, the man is being kidnapped someone come pick him up
I found my niche and it's the round table looking sad in jail
I submitted him as a joke y'all should get him to win
Who has more Schrodinger's Gender?
(aka who is simultaneously trans masc, trans fem, AND nonbinary)
PROPAGANDA
Gawain (Arthurian legends)
Honestly I just think it'd be funny to see a medieval character in this, but he is very gender! Most of the fan base draws him as transmasc, but I could also see a transfemme interpretation. Talked about wanting to be a woman more than once, one time could be excused as "he wants to be in a relationship with a man but can't as a man," but I feel like the other times are very egg-like. He's also typically described as feminine/with feminine compliments, which could go with him being transmasc or them presenting feminine purposefully
Gen/Eugenides (Queen’s Thief series)
Gen is such a skrunkly little lad!! It’s hard to go into details without spoilers but: he’s this scrawny little thief with long hair and a smart mouth, so much drama, AND he’s the most unreliable narrator ever. Literally lies about every aspect of his identity at one point or another. If he tells 5 different people 5 different genders nobody will argue or even know which ones he’s serious about. Girl Gen??? Immaculate. Trans girl Gen?? Showstopping. Transmasc Gen??? Beautiful. Non-binary Gen????? Stop, stop, im already obsessed! There is no losing. Gen is the trickster and the gods’ puppet and just a little lad and a high society lady and a street rat and and and. His gender is whatever he found in your pockets. He is a figure of myth. He is a short king. I am obsessed with him.
Lancelot and Gawain's polar opposite reactions to being faced with their sins is so funny to me. Lancelot has a total breakdown, but Gawain goes "Hm. I'd repent, but then I'd have to feel bad, and I don't."
I've seen all the posts about Lancelot being pathetic, and I kept thinking "Oh he's not that bad," but now that I'm reading the vulgate I 100% understand
This dude is so lame and sad someone come pick him up and take him home
Gawain at all times
the great thing about medieval literature is that it returns us to a time when men were men and women were women, *insert gritty realism gif here*, featuring such important and eternal gendered characteristics such as
