Kung Lao and the 'Rock'

Summary: Kung Lao finds a fancy looking rock outside the Wu Shi Academy and brings it with him, however he's pretty sure rocks aren't supposed to whistle.

In the dead of night not too far from the Wu Shi academy a creature like no other limped through the trees and thicket. It's tall stature and long body weaved silently through the brush despite its hind legs and back being marred. Rabbits, deer, and other prey animals ran for cover as the creature approached, and even the feisty crocodiles in the marsh slunk back into their waters.
Held gently in the creature's mouth was an egg the color of bronze. The moons' light reflected off of it, blinding the creature for a quick moment. It flinched, sending pain through its body and causing it to growl. Still, it held a gentle grip on the egg and continued on.
The creature came to a stop by a stream. It wobbled but balanced itself and made its way over to a thick cluster of berry bushes. It very gently placed the egg in the middle of the bushes and gave it a quick nuzzle, then, using its nose, covered the egg with loose leaves and twigs until its bronze hue could no longer been seen.
Just as silently as the creature arrived, it left, leaving the egg behind.
Kung Lao huffed as he walked in the woods. His most recent sparring match with Liu Kang hadn't gone well, as was always the pattern. Normally he'd take whatever remarks he got in stride, however he wasn't feeling it this time, and simply decided to leave and find a place to sulk in silence. His first thought was his room, but he didn't want to risk Liu Kang barging in to lecture him. Much less, Raiden.
So he ultimately decided to take a walk in the woods. It was a warm day after all, why not enjoy some time in nature? He strolled along, enjoying the scenery of the sunrays poking through the trees and munching away on an apple. Eventually he found himself by a stream and he plopped onto his back, letting his signature hat fall off his head. The grass was a bit itchy, but itchy grass was better than a wounded ego.
The woods were rather quiet, he noticed. Normally there'd be birds singing and zipping around, but as he stared upwards into the trees, he saw not a single one. Odd. There weren't any other animals in sight either. A few bugs here and there, but the usual buzzing cicadas were absent as well. It was so eerily quiet and uncharacteristic of these woods. Kung Lao felt oddly unsafe.
Out of the corner of his eye he spotted a few berry bushes. He raised up off the ground, grabbing his hat on the way up. "Don't mid if I do," he said. He'd finished his apple by now, a few berries would be lovely. He stepped over to the bushes and began picking and eating a few berries. Usually these types of bushes had some manner of insect on them, but again, no creature in sight.
This was getting a little too weird for Kung Lao, and he began to wonder if something was actually wrong. He'd have to ask the other monks if they'd noticed anything amiss when he returned to the temple.
He reached down into the bush for more berries and flinched as he felt something hard on his fingertips. He yanked his arm back out of reflex and he was momentarily blinded by something.
"The hell was...?" Kung Lao blinked the glare away and curiously looked deeper into the bush. The color of bronze sat nestled inside and once again he was blinded. This time he pushed through the glare and dug into the bush to possibly find out whatever the object was.
The object turned out to be much bigger than he thought at first. He ended up having to grasp it with both hand and tug it upwards. He ended up falling on his butt when the bronze object finally came up out of the dirt and twigs. Still, he let out a sound of victory. He'd finally figure out what this thing was!
Oh, it's a rock. That's boring.
Still, it was a pretty rock, and it was lightweight. It would make a nice decoration for his room. As long as he kept it away from the window, that is. Gods this thing was blinding.
Tugging the rock out of the ground seemed to help Kung Lao's frustration subside and he decided to start making his way back towards the temple. He held the bronze rock in his arms, thinking of where he could place it in his room. It surly was an odd thing to find out in the woods, but hey, a lot of odd things have happened in his life thus far. Not to mention the animals seemed to be making noise again as he left! He took this all as a good omen for the rest of the day.
"Liu Kang, look what I found!" Kung Lao called over to his best friend as he climbed the last of the steps to the temple.
"A rock, Kung Lao?" Liu Kang tilted his head at him. He was quickly blinded by the shiny rock and blinked.
"Yeah, I found it buried in the woods. I think it'll look nice in my room somewhere."
"Your decorating will have to wait. Lord Raiden has been meaning to speak with you about your training."
"Damn," Kung Lao muttered. He really thought he'd avoid Raiden this time. "I'll be there in a moment. Just let me put this away."
Liu Kang nodded and jogged off. Undoubtedly to inform Raiden of Kung Lao's return. Kung Lao himself sighed, knowing that he'd be in for a long lecture most likely. So he took a little extra time in walking to his room. He whistled down the hall, holding the bronze rock and absentmindedly tapping it. For a moment he thought it tapped back. He disregarded it as his nerves.
"All right," he said, placing the rock on his cot. He gave on last sigh before turning around, whistling again as he went to leave.
Until he heard a whistle back.
He turned around, stopping his own whistling. He eyed the corners of his room suspiciously. Curiously, he whistled again. A simple, high pitched note.
He heard a whistle back.. and it was coming from the rock.
No. He had to confirm this. He knelt down by his cot, keeping his face closer to the rock to hear better. He whistled.
The rock whistled back. It was muffled, as if it was coming from inside it.
He paused. Then he whistled again, this time in a more musical rhythm.
Again, the rock whistled back, using his exact rhythm.
Somehow, Kung Lao was not entirely convinced. He whistled again, and again, and again. The rock whistled back the exact tune again, and again, and again.
"Oh..."
"Kung Lao, Raiden is growing impatient." Liu Kang suddenly appeared in Lao's doorway. Kung Lao only gestured for Liu to come over. When Liu did, Lao basically pulled him down to the floor. "What are you-?"
"Shut up. Listen."
Kung Lao whistled. The rock whistled back. The two monks sat in silence for a few moments, each giving each other 'what the hell' expressions. If it weren't for Raiden making himself known with a cough, they would've stayed like that for hours.
Raiden gave the two pointed looks as they turned to face him, rising off the floor.
"Lord Raiden, I-" Kung Lao is cut off by Raiden holding up a hand. Lao's expression falters.
Just as Raiden looked like he was about to start his lecture, the thunder god is momentarily blinded. He blinked and turned his attention to the bronze object on Kung Lao's cot.
A look of recognition washed over Raiden's face and he stepped between both Kung Lao and Liu Kang, making his way over to the cot. He knelt on the floor and began stroking the rock.
"It, uh, whistles back at me. Listen." Kung Lao whistled and, like before, the rock whistled back.
"Where did you find this?" Raiden asked, taking the rock in his arms and rising up off the floor.
"In the woods bellow the temple," Kung Lao replied. "It was nestled in a berry bush."
Raiden sighed.
"Kung Lao," Raiden started," this is a dragon egg, and it is close to hatching."

Wow look who finally decided to write something on the blog she said she'd write on!
This was a silly little idea I came up with one day and I finally jotted it down. I've never written anything on tumblr before, so if there's something I'm messing up please let me know! Also I think my writing is going through some kind of transition/ improvement period, so if it seems messy... yeah lol.
Hope you enjoyed!
Maybe in the other universe 🥲

Hello, me again! Another request, could you do headcanons with the MK1 Earthrealmers and Liu Kang with a street racer reader? (Total Fast and Furious 1 and 2 vibes from this, BTW)
Hey you, welcome back.
Live Fast, Die Young
A/n: I'm gonna be honest with you, I barely know a single thing about the Fast and Furious franchise. But I'll try lol Tags: Request, SFW, F&F inspired C/w: None
Liu Kang

This was not what he had in mind when he brought you into the new timeline. He wanted something more peaceful for you, something that didn't put you in harm's way. Yet here you are, racing up and down dangerous roads, going on secret missions, and being involved in dirty money.
He worries about you, every moment you are together he tries to coax you out of this lifestyle. Yet you refuse, Liu Kang created you with a rebellious and fun-loving spirit. He thought it would be more beneficial to your safety...he was wrong.
He often sends Kuai, Tomas, geras, and whoever he can, to watch after you and make sure everything goes in your favour. Sometimes he himself will even come down and intervene. He can't seem to ever understand you. He offer you a life of peace, why won't you take it?
He worries whenever you aren't in his sight, he's scarred you've been thrown into jail, killed, or worse. He fears you might fall in with people like Kano and the black dragon. He fears that one day you'll make a deadly bet you fail to win. That your car will fail you and you crash. Every night he prays for your safety and the hope that you'll come back to him.
Johnny Cage

Oh man, this is exciting for him. Normally this type of thing is something he plays on the silver screen but to see you actually do stuff like this in real life is so thrilling for him. He barrages you with questions every chance he gets, he comes to your races to watch, he's your biggest cheerleader, and he bets a ridiculous amount of money for you, and if you lose? No problem, we'll get them next time.
He'll use you as his muse whenever he writes a screenplay that has anything to do with your profession. He bases his stories on your adventures (and maybe he mixes a bit of his own experiences in Outworld just for fun) he is often asked how he comes up with ideas and he just lies for your safety. "Oh, it just came to me. I'M A GENIUS!".
Sometimes he rides with you whenever you do your races or go on your missions. He whoops and hollers as you go into overdrive, he laughs hysterically as you pass others, he praises your every win and praises you when you lose.
Don't be fooled by how supportive he is, he still worries for you. Some nights he just asks you to stay home with him where it's safe. But you won't though, you promise you'll come back but he's often not too sure you will.
Kenshi

He is no stranger to being in dirty and dangerous business, he was part of the Yakuza after all. So when he finds out about your lifestyle he is quick to disapprove of this lifestyle. He is sure to lecture you and tell you how living like this is wrong.
He gets stressed whenever you are on the road, every time you rev your engine and speed away. Every moment you are in that car there is a risk that you'll crash and die. You seem to be getting in bed with some very shady people, it's bad enough that you're surrounded by enough shady people as it is, the low lives around you want to do terrible things to you and leave you dead, or worse.
He tries to convince you to stay with him and do something with him to keep you away from racing and the dirty money that surrounds it. Maybe he'll take you to the movies, dancing, to the Wu Shi Academy, anywhere he knows you'll be safe.
He will still attend any of your races and missions, he has to make sure you are safe. He acts as your bodyguard in a sense, being sure to protect you whenever any situation arises where you need him. But he can't always be there for you, and that scares him.
Kung Lao

Kung Lao has always been a lover of the fast lifestyle, anything thrilling, anything dangerous and he loves it. So it's no surprise that he gets along with you instantly. He used to think that everything in Earthrealm was boring and uneventful compared to something like Outworld or any other realm. But you proved him wrong.
You introduce him to this life and he can't get enough of it. He's there almost every moment he's free, he watches you race and he even places bets. He even insists that he started racing himself, and the adrenaline he feels when starts doing this is amazing. he never wants to stop.
But unfortunately, he does stop. Soon the glitz and glamour of racing fade away when he becomes more aware of the more shady and dangerous side. This gets worse and worse as he realizes all of the illegal stuff he and you were involved in.
He doesn't know what to do, he can't go to Liu out of shame, but he doesn't want to do this anymore. He especially doesn't want you to do this anymore. He tries his best to convince you to stop this, but you just won't listen. You love this life and you won't stop.
Raiden

He's confused. What exactly are you doing? Why are you doing this? His curiosity leads him to follow along and come with you to your races. He is confused and overwhelmed by all of this, Raiden doesn't like this. Why would you want to do this? He immediately realizes how corrupt and dangerous some of the things here are and he is quick to try and reason with you to get you to stop.
He tries to make you see how flawed living like this is, but unfortunately for him, his lectures fall on dead ears. You won't listen to him, you refuse to stop this, You cannot stop this. Maybe because you love the thrill or because of more personal reasons. Raiden realizes, that you'll never stop no matter how hard he tries. And this you two part ways.
Raiden can't help but still think about you whenever he is at the Wu Shi Academy. He wishes there was something he could do to more to convince you, but there wasn't much he could do. All that is left is for him to pray to the Elder Gods and hope that they will help you.
He will still attend some of your events, hoping to see, to know if you are alright. If you bumped into each other he'd congratulate you on your win and try to make small talk. But there isn't much to talk about, he's against what you do and there's not much more than that. It doesn't mean that he is not in love with you, how could he ever hate you? He misses you, he wishes every day that were by his side protecting the Earthrealm, not living this fast life.
