Lips Tutorials Row 1 to 4 Row 5: Left Right Row 6: Left, Middle Right Bottom Image

Hi y'all! Folks wanted me to explain how I draw mouths, so here it is! Nothing super complicated, just a really quick and simple demonstration. Another quick note I’d like to add- I’ve always been taught that you should never learn to draw features outside of the face. For example - A lot of young artists will recognize that they need to practice drawing eyes, but then after hours/days/weeks of practicing they find themselves unable to work all this new drawing ability into an actual face. Same thing goes for mouths/noses/brows etc. Get the bulk of the work out of the way on the first attempt! Draw the whole lower half of the face!

Someone requested I make a tutorial on how I draw teeth / Inkling beaks, so here it is!

I’ve received a few of these messages over the past couple of months and they’ve motivated me to sit my ass down and make some sort of tutorial on how to draw lips. I’m not an expert, but I hope it’s helpful, and if it’s not, then at least you’ll know how I personally do it:

Yooo how do u draw teeth? Like ur art has me dying like it's amazing! I understand looking at reference helps but it's still hard to get the concept...if u can explain that would help, thanks if so!
ok!! i’m not the best at explaining but here’s what i generally think about when i draw teeth. aside from understanding ppl’s teeth are arranged in a curve (think two letter “U”s on top of each other) i also try to remember how many teeth there usually are in a human mouth. from there i tend to stylize pretty heavily while still keeping those two in mind. i hope that helps o/

Tuesday Tips - Watch Your Mouth (new tip, which will be included in 100 Tuesday Tips Volume 2, available next year. The first volume is finally back in stock in our Etsy shop.) Even without language, we communicate a lot with the shape of our mouth (lips, mouth corners, teeth, …) Like all facial features, its complexities can be simplified, but a good understanding of it all is a must! -Norm #100tuesdaytips #100tuesdaytipsgrizandnormbook #watchyourmouth #grizandnorm #arttips #arttutorial #disneyartist
Could you please show us how to draw faces with nice fangs please.

Hope this is helpful!
how do u draw teefers like that

okay sticking the rest of my explanation under the cut because it's long but woooo mini-tutorial for cartoony teeth by someone who doesn't know how to explain things hope you're ready

things that i was too lazy add in but i think are still important:
NEVER be afraid to use references... if you can't figure out what you want, and googling stuff doesn't help, you can even go make faces at yourself in a mirror for a minute.
if you're not drawing in a realistic style, know when to add detail and know when to skip it. you don't usually need to outline each individual tooth unless the focus is on the mouth itself or you're going for a creepy effect... see the uncanny comment in the first slide
okay that's it uhhhh remember i'm not a professional? i just draw silly guys for fun don't take this as law or anything!!! have fun with it!!

Some stuff from the past few weeks of character design! The most important lesson we are learning is you have to break everything down into SIMPLE SHAPES FIRST BEFORE ADDING ANY DETAIL. None of the drawings above are detailed at all - everything is suuuuuuuuuper basic. Obviously I’ve been drawing for a long time, but I found these lessons very helpful.
For the head breakdowns, we were encouraged to trace the basic structure directly from the photos - as you can see from the lines on the paper (the animation paper I used is super thin so yeah they pressed through) I did that. I don’t have a huge problem if it’s traced from real people (but it still felt weird). The top three were entirely traced for placement, and the bottom three were only traced so far as the circles and and eye/nose lines. Also without eyelids or eyebrows they look so freaky!
I have other tutorials here: http://incaseyouart.tumblr.com/tagged/tutorial

Also the blog of @grizandnorm is fantastic and there are tons of tutorials that I would really recommend checking out! Our teachers show us them all the time~

Sorry this one’s a little long.
I got a good response on my last tutorial, and I want to thank all of you for that. I revived a handful of questions and requests on other subjects too, so, a least for a while, I’m going to post a new tutorial (or tutorial type thing) once or twice a month. If you left a question or request you’re on my list and I promise I’ll get to you, just be patient (these things are kind of involved to make). Also, if anyone else has a request, please feel free to comment and let me know!
Thanks again!!
