I've heard it suggested that the Krusty Krab is a money laundering operation or a mob front and I can't help but consider the fact that Mr. Krabs was fully prepared to give Squidward a Fabergé egg as a reward as evidence for this.
If you didn't know, Fabergé eggs were made for the Tsars of Russia and similarly ostentatiously rich people of the time, and are worth millions - they may not be called Fabergé eggs in the episode, but it's still clearly an ornamental egg with huge jewels embedded in it trimmed in gold. And Squidward apparently has a collection of these on a cashier salary. This also opens up a whole new can of worms, including the possibility of sea Russia, a sea Russian Revolution against the sea Tsar, and potentially a USSSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Sea Republics) but I think those thoughts need time to ferment.
