My complicated relationship with Rwby.

Apologies Everyone no this is not the surprise I promise that's still in the works. Right now I just want to talk about something.

As all (except one and a half) of my followers know me for, it is the fact that I write Rwby fanfiction (very bad ones) and since I have somewhat of a miniscule foot step in my part of the fandom I just want to post this.

So to even begin my history with Rwby we need to start with something that had nothing to do with it at the start.

Death battle.

Yes. THAT death battle. The very same. And I'm pretty sure you all know where I'm going with this.

I got introduced to this series via death battle when they released Yang Xiao long versus Tifa Lockhart.

That's where I was first unknowingly introduced to Rwby. And oh boy did I forget about that series in a matter of moments. After watching that fight the only thing I was focusing on was how cool yang looked as she fucking washed tifa.

Was it rigged? Yes. Fuck yes! But I still loved the fight.

And then I watched Weiss versus Mitsuru. And yeah I also forgot about rwby after that.. for a bit. Eventually I discovered the series again on YouTube and began watching from episode 1.

Immediately the introduction caught me off guard. The story book-esc intro caught my attention and I found it... Decent. I was hoping the series would stick to this story book kinda feel but also mix in some bits and pieces of 3d.

And now to address the elephant in the room. Yes, by the time I began watching rwby there was already heavy criticism. I did watch some videos but not all of them. I didn't want my view to have a bias.

And I'll be honest, I liked the first three volumes. Including volume 4. (Yes I know the volume was absolute fucking garbage but I still liked that it slowed to have our characters get a focus)

Now i want to address something. At this point in time I was not a huge shipper it just seemed bizarre. But I did, and still do like a lot of ships. But sadly none of them are team rwby ships.

What can I say at that point I wasn't very open minded. I didn't hate the ships I just didn't get it, yet I still enjoyed the volumes despite that and I'll be honest me at that point leaned towards dragonslayer.

Ah yes the rookie Knight meets the mighty blond bombshell. My (still) two favorite characters in a ship I would have liked. Also... Fuck arkos 🖕 (I'm kidding I just didn't care for pyrrha as a character, I just fuckin couldn't. She's not bad just wish she was written better)

But of course this is a complicated relationship for the series. And now we are at my least favorite part. I did not care for volume five and all in all I just stopped caring. I stopped caring about the Rwby series because well one. sadly most of the fandom was either toxic as hell or ship based. 2. A lot of the criticism from the videos I watched made me realize this show was pretty bad. (No matter how much I liked it)

And eventually I put this series to rest. I stopped watching rwby, but it always lived in the back of my head, the vibrancy of the first three volumes, the shock of Pyrrha and Penny's death. The idea of hunting monsters.

That led me to creating beast slayer. In a sense my "first born child" and oh boy was it edgy. It still is but at that point I was in a bad spot. I am still dealing with my own self-esteem and self-hatred. But at that point during the pandemic... I was done. I was done with everything. And so I began making more promotional pictures because I didn't write at that point.

Eventually that led me to meeting my ex who I will always be glad I met (they were quite literally one of the things dragging me away from the depression of the pandemic)

But this is about Rwby. And I'll say it here so you all can quote when I'm old and grey. Rwby will always be an inspiration for my work no matter how crumby, incompetent, and outright cruel, rooster teeth is. No matter how bad the story decisions are (like the non-existent build up to bumblb.). No matter how terrible the fandom is. This series will always be in the back of my mind and telling me "just go for it". As dumb as it sounds (and even out right cheesy it is) its true.

But regardless back onto the timeline of events. At this point in time I had completely forgotten about Rwby, only occasionally hearing about it and then j saw a YouTube short showing... A group of sprites modeled after... Team rwby..

That's right ladies we are talking about my favorite fighting game!

BLAZBLUE: CROSS TAG BATTLE

I had no idea this game existed until eventually I was searching on the Xbox game store and found it and I'll have an entire different thing on how it got me into persona but right now, point is.

I loved this game. Every minute I spent playing it was another minute I would have an idea for a combo or interaction. And well it also got me back into Ruby. Once again I started seeing rwby pop up more and more on YouTube and sadly that was also after rwby got removed from YouTube. (First off fuck you rooster teeth, second off eat my dick, drink my fresh piss, and lick my heavy as fuck balls!)

But eventually after that that was also when I got on Tumblr (and it wasn't even for rwby, not even inscryption when I used to make shit for it. I entered Tumblr, because I was a fan of bugsnax. Strange how one thing leads to another huh?)

And so here I am talking to all of you. You who follow me or you who just so happen to this because I'm tagging this as rwby.

So what do I have to say about the series and what ships do I like even tho I've said it 100 times.

To answer the first one.. I.. I love this series still. It will always live in my mind and I will always remember the potential the series had. And I'm mad about it.

I'm mad this series has basically made me it's bitch and yet I still keep coming back because a strive to enjoy the series. That's one of the reasons why I'm doing the Rwby rewrite or also called "rwby: fate".

I'm mad that no matter how much I love this series it'll never get better because one the company Is horrible and two the writers are incompetent. Yet here I am standing here typing this out for everyone to read and I still want this series to have an ending but also not wanting to fund a horrible pathetic company. I'm at a cross roads because one half is telling me "they'll fail like the last 6 volumes" while the other half is screaming praying that this series gets on ending because it wants to see the thing that inspired have a worthwhile ending.

But that's everything. That's everything when it comes to how I feel about Rwby. In this long ass, stupid ass, mustard stain on your shirt having, ugly bitch making, rant son of a bitch.

Well obviously except one.

So I need all of your guys opinion on something. (For story Purposes)

So I'm a guy who likes jaune-

Ok. It's also was saying before the voices of the void interrupted me, I'm a guy who likes jaune, he's my second favorite character behind yang. And I'm also the same guy who's writing RWBY: fate (my reinterpretation of rwby)

And I have a really really bad idea when it comes to this man.... I wanna kill him off. No not in place of Pyrrha I still have full intentions of her dying early. I plan on killing jaune off at the end of what I'm calling "the fall" arc. Which is basically volume nine but its not actually going to be volume nine (hell no I have full intention of writing this story at its proper length of time needed for the story to go).

And basically what I intend to do is before the ark begins Jaune would sustain a mortal wound from cinder and while he's in the ever after he's not dying but the wound is still slowly killing him. So after the whole adventure jaune knows he doesn't have long and hands Ruby crocea mors and decides to stay in the ever after (and no he would not be reverted back to being young I have no intention of doing that) and live out his life before the wound kills him when he gets home.

It's a dumb idea but I want to avoid Jaune feeling like he's the protagonist because I do want to focus on team RWBY.

(Of course this technically would go against the rule of any characters who did die in the show dying in the rewrite which would also technically apply to characters who still live but fuck it I kept adam alive so I could majorly change his character. Might as well make up for that)

Today I- your most hated host- am here to give a friendly psa to try and calm the waves a little in the rwby fandom.

Shipping is for fun. People can hate or like certain ships as long as we acknowledge that it's ok to like that.. unless it's something that comes from the pits of hell such as incest or harem ships especially jaunes harem shippers. Your all heathens and I hope you get dick slapped by a tanuki (<=== says the mothafucker who actively likes jaune and has stated it himself that he is Jaune shipper trash)

But joke threats aside.. please everyone don't be a dick to each other. We are all grown adults I hope the rare few who are deciding to be a problem understand that.

That goes both ways, don't attack people for hating or liking a rwby ship unless it objectively fucked. (Like arc-cest... Or really any incest ships) we're all people, we can agree to disagree...

That being said whiterose fans are-

(also before I begin I want to ensure that my message is given context, I hate crwby as writers not as people, I hope people don't misconstrued that because otherwise that's just gonna be frustrating to deal with)

Pyrrha is a wasted character and a PRIME example that crwby can't write women.

Oh boy pyrrha Nikos where do I begin with this cardboard cut out of a character.

So since a few (and I mean A FEW) people choose to live in denial of the obvious fact that crwby cant write and that to claim they can is possibly the most bullshit statement ever.. its time to take out the belt (bout to go Hellsing abridged in this bitch)

I'm mainly using Pyrrha because she is the most GLARING example of how bad the writing of Rwby can get.

Granted I am notorious for consistently and without calling Pyrrha the worst character ever (about as bad as later volume Blake.. then again just Blake in general- hoo boy I really am gonna piss people off huh?) this is mainly due to the fact.. she's quite literally a peice of cardboard and i actively cheer whenever I rewatch her death... Ok that last bit was an over exaggeration but you get the point.

Now to begin why I actively believe Pyrrha is terrible, we need to talk about.. the noodle knight.. sometimes I despise the fact I like jaune but regardless-

Jaune as a character is fundamentally a side character... Yet he has consistent screen time.. again.. and again.. and again. To the point where you could jokingly say he's the real main character since Crwby just love putting him in as much screen time as possible. (However I more take it as the fact jaune is just a scapegoat for Crwbys incompetence. But that's for when I piss of the rwde aspect of the community, because oh boy.. is there an argument I want to rip to shreds and call blatant bullshit.)

But outside of the screentime he is mildly interesting and has made a few actions that add dimension to the character... But why do I bring up jaune when talking about Pyrrha? It's due to the fact Pyrrha's entire character revolves around jaune.

Pyrrha is rarely shown to interact with the rest of JNPR, it's practically non-existent if jaune is not somewhere.

But some of you might say (and honestly I don't blame you and would agree with you) "Pyrrha is a side character, she doesn't need depth." To which.. yes... But she was a part of team JNPR, her death is treated as if it should have affected everyone. Hell her death caused ruby to awaken her silver eyes. But there's one problem.. technically two

1. Team JNPR (or more accurately JNR) are still active participants in the cast, you'd think them being side characters they would eventually be thrown away.. but they aren't. So that would supposedly mean their important.. which includes Pyrrha but if that's the case then why isnt she given depth, you can't three people of an extra be important enough to be a part of the cast and given development but Also have the other team member not be given some given some kind of development, that doesn't work either don't give development to ALL OF THEM or do the inverse.

2. she isn't shown to interact with team Rwby by herself, she's never given any scenes to show that she is friends with ATLEAST ruby, so her death impacting others that SHOULD be her friends doesn't make sense now because there's no scenes with her interacting with them by herself.

Every scene that is pivotal is in some form or way connected to Jaune, but even though characters like her can be good if written well, she isn't.

Pyrrha is never once given anything that is specifically to show off her, she's always written to focus on jaune. Even her death which was supposed to affect all of team Rwby and Jnr only was shown to affect jaune.

To many it may seem like it's not an issue she only showed up for three volumes before kicking the bucket and dying. So what's the point of talking about her?

Well from me specifically, the problem is the fact Pyrrha is not a rare case of bad writing, not just for characters either, may I remind you all of the white fang subplot. Don't worry I won't go into too much detail I'm writing an entirely different post about how the faunus/white fang subplot got swept under the rug because surprise surprise crwby writers are shitty at writing.

Alright time to get on my soapbox to sound all high and mighty.

to explain it simply. The white fang arc was supposed to be a lesson that is meant to talk about how racism is wrong and the fact that it only hurts innocent people, (both of obviously the oppressed and the innocent people who are unintentionally associated with the oppressor, hatred breeds hatred y'all know the phrase) but instead its not even given anything specific. This is especially a problem considering one of our main characters is supposed to be the protagonist that helps talk about the issue. Instead of anything specific that shows the faunus are oppressed and that humanity still has extremely bigoted and shitty people all we get is.. cardin and that's about it.. and then in volume 5 (or 4 I unfortunately lose track sometimes) it's just wrapped up with.. Adam being taken down and the white fang essentially being forgotten about.. the white fang, you know the organization that is full of faunus who do want equality but are somewhat misguided.. their apparently just disbanded after the piss baby that is "Adam Taurus" just gets defeated.. is it me or doesn't it make more sense to atleast hear mention of some white fang stragglers who still misguidedly fight in the name of equality. Honestly it feels like it got rushed and not properly expanded on.

To put it bluntly I find it just so weird that crwby has been shown to not be able to handle topics that are a little more nuanced and decided to sweep it under the rug, same with writing characters that could be interesting, but instead are just turned into cardboard cut outs. Yet there are people who claim that Rwby is better than any media *cough cough* the Twitter bastards *cough cough* which.. look i love Rwby to death, it's music is fuckin magnificent early volume versions of the characters can be.. minus jaune kinda (man does got a few bumps when it comes to being a fan) but Rwby is.. mediocre. But it's not it's fault, that's just what happens when writers aren't able to properly write a story, characters, a world for the story, literally almost every attempt at adding depth to rwby.

Ok.. I'm fuckin tired I'm expecting a lot of people to disagree (I'm praying the majority aren't just gonna throw insults and nothing else because honestly that just makes anyone look stupid.

Alright time to get off the soap box and return to the cave where I write shitty Rwby fanfics and equally shitty original story.

Or you know, maybe not antagonize eachother like fucking toddlers.

Here's a fact for everyone, critics are more accurately Rwby fans who have certain problems with how the series is handled. Aka OPINIONS.

On the surface that's completely fine, opinions are opinions we have the right to agree and/or disagree. The problem lies In the fact this fandom just doesn't wanna get along. The entire reason RWDE and Rwbycritics exists is a by product of the fact certain people just don't want to hear differing opinions.

However that does not mean Rwde and Rwbycritics are completely in the right, there are unfortunately a small percentage of idiots who mistake criticizing for just hating... Which let me tell ya, it's annoying as fuck. Unfortunately tho those idiots are the main focus when it comes to talking about the critical side of this and why certain fans have a bias against it.

If we want the critics to stop being a "problem" we need to stop acting as if all of them are Terrible. Instead we need to understand that not every opinion is the exact same.

Also so that way I can stop using the Rwde tag because it conveys the idea that I'm a critic, which ya know is a blatant lie because I ain't got the fuckin neurons to write a fully coherent essay on my opinions about Rwby.

Obviously this sounds preachy as shit but it would be nice if this fandom didn't fight itself every five minutes. we are a fandom, we are a collective of individuals with equally valid opinions, no one here is an enemy minus the idiots who mistake criticizing for hating or you know use it as an excuse to hate instead of sharing opinions in a decent way.

So like here's a fun fact, so with the apparent proof that I don't like how bmblb was handled and the fact I ship dragonslayer and Blacksun you may assume i just hold a deep hatred towards bmblb.. no actually. It's much weirder

So I don't hate bmblb, which you'd think I would and I wouldn't blame you. But I'm more neutral. I wouldn't touch this ship with a ten foot poll but that's more due to the fear of fucking up when it comes to writing them.. plus also because I'm a straight man who has admitted he can't write women to save his ass and especially sucks at writing queer characters. So you can imagine how intimidating it is to write a combination of both.

But alas my incompetence has come to humiliate me.. because I'm gonna try and write a short bmblb fic.. like really short, like Tumblr fic-

Writing Blake and yang is fucking intimidating. Especially writing their relationship.

I say this because I'm a guy right? Straight one too, so I feel like I'm walking a fine line on making it seem I actually care about writing their relationship.. and fetishizing their relationship which.. ya know it isn't exactly a decent thing to do regardless of gender or sexuality.

But that's all.

(saw your confession on rwby confess) i think the current problem with critics and fans is that *both* sides that go to war (NOT the critics and fans who are minding their business and only occasionally engage, shoutout to them, i love you all) either made their side their whole personality and/or they're actively trying to one-up/destroy the other. you can't post anything without them NOT reading, rather already crafting a response in their mind to counter your point, even if they didn't even read what your point is. it's a really uncomfortable situation because anything you do will put you in this or either side and you cannot get the whole fan experience. i've honestly been afraid of posting knightshade not because i dislike bees (I'm rather indifferent to them) but because i'm afraid of people thinking i hate bees and that it's cheating art and the whole nine yards (saw it happen to many blacksun, dragonslayer and knightshade art). i made ONE joke and people already painted me as a critic and a hater. ONE.

also, while some critics bring very valid points and give excellent food for thought, the majority that goes into forums and twitter usually repeat the same points that have been analysed to death. like, in reality there's always something new to criticize about rwby, but no, in forums it's always the same stuff. it feels like they're fishing for praise or engagement instead of actually posting their thoughts.

Outside of that. THANK YOU, you finally put into words how frustrating this community can be. Like I love this fandom but God damn does it make me wanna pull my hair out.

And it sucks even further since neither side are complete pieces of SHIT! It's just some choose to be the fuckin worst or reiterate on points that don't work! Its just utterly frustrating because I just wanna talk about Rwby and how I view this series but instead you gotta pick a fuckin side because this fandom chooses to act like fuckin toddlers!

I'd like to make a thread out of this but I wanna make it natural. But regardless. THANK YOU!

First of all: don't leave the FNDM. If you leave I leave. Stay or I swear I will copypaste what gaslighting ex-boyfriends say when you break up with them.

Second of all: with all the love from my heart (and 11 years of writing under my belt) neither RWBY fans nor RWDE (should be called CRTC honestly) have much idea of writing outside of popular anime and cartoons. Completely acceptable but genuinely: only like 2, 3 people know what the hell they're talking about.

One example is Jaune being a self-insert. Assuming that Miles isn't lying (because he totally could!), he's obviously an audience stand-in at first. Any of us would struggle in a Huntsman academy. Pyrrha is there for wish fulfillment, that much is obvious, because any of us would like to have the unearned attention of a beautiful strong person without having to do any work and just being ourselves. His personality is pretty much blank slate/relatable.

As the story advanced he developed into an Author's Darling/Pet. He shows up in every volume and plays an important role every time; you can see the writers had more fun with him and know him deeply, which I can't blame them for because yes, Jaune is surprisingly easy to write and should be considered a win for CRWBY, and yes, Jaune is goddamn flexible, which shouldn't sound as horny as it does. Either way, it's very obvious he gets way more pampered than the girls, with emphasis on attention: that bad things happen to him doesn't mean he's not CRWBY's pet. He's getting his spinach (attention) and being rewarded with lots of candy (attention). But again, he is a PET. A DARLING. Not necessarily a self-insert. Plus, it's not as if writers never self-inserted by adding bits and pieces of their personality to the characters and exaggerating those traits... of course not.

Anyways, I apologize for the long ask, I just wanted to ramble a bit considering that these trying times, it's Jaune's turn to be a punching bag. I won't even start on Adam's writing misconceptions because GOD + mucho texto. But if you read this rant, thank you!

p.s Don't leave the RWBY fandom. Are you gonna throw everything away? God, this is why you need us to tell you to stay and give us more content. You won't leave just because of some miserly fans and anti-fans with too much time on their hands, right? Don't you think you're overreacting? Go sleep on it and you'll realize I'm right. I know what's best for you, hm? Next post I see, it better be about you deciding to stay on the RWBY fandom and posting more of your stuff.
