Bro I’m so sad about the future Sumeru update. Because:

The characters are very disappointing. Not only the designs which are just not to my liking (the colors and all are just mehh except for Al-haitham and that fennec-eared dude.)

The DAMN SKIN COLOR. I swear they are more pale than Tartaglia himself. Look, I’m middle eastern, so I know what I am talking about. I know that not all middle easterners or North Africans are tan or brown or whatever, but it is still present as a color. Just look ! Out of like 8 leaked characters we only get 2 of them slightly tan. Not only that but there is also the fact that there are almost no representation for middle eastern, african, North African, south and west asians and much more. So disappointed. I just wanted good representation!

The archon. I was positive that the Archon of the region was going to be a dark-skinned woman, gentle and wise and all. But noooo Hoyoverse made her a neon white child which is basically Klee with a green dress and even lighter skin. Damn it not even Cyno can help at this point.

Bonus point. The storage is wayyy too much I’m sad I won’t be able to enjoy Sumeru’s scenery since it’ll take like 20+ GB and it’s too much.

Sorry if it kinda doesn’t make sense I’m just kinda mad.

I don’t know if I should be sad, disappointed, mad, kinda proud or disgusted. Probably all of em.

Keep in mind that this is my opinion, you can have your own. I am open to productive criticism only.

Now, ladies and gentlemen, let me explain.

After the Sumeru update and my first rant to HoyoVerse about the characters and their skin tones in a previous post, I didn’t think it could be worst, right ? How foolish of me to underestimate Hoyoverse’s bs.

Now, first of all, we all know that there’s a leaked character named al-haitham, right ? And he’s from Sumeru, which is probably inspired from Sumer, basically old Iraq. What you probably didn’t know is that this Character is heavily inspired by the muslim scientific thinker Ibn Al-Haytham, which was alive around a thousand years ago in the region of Sumer.

Then, let’s see Cyno, our pretty boy. He, on the other hand, is heavily inspired by Egyptian mythology, for his costume resembles Anubis, an important character in these myths.

We also have Tighnari (or sum i forgot the name sorry) who has fennec ears, in reference to the fennex fox who lives in North Africa.

Plus, look at this architecture

I Dont Know If I Should Be Sad, Disappointed, Mad, Kinda Proud Or Disgusted. Probably All Of Em.

Maybe it’s just me but it has very heavy ressemblance to a mosque or any islamic architecture

I Dont Know If I Should Be Sad, Disappointed, Mad, Kinda Proud Or Disgusted. Probably All Of Em.
I Dont Know If I Should Be Sad, Disappointed, Mad, Kinda Proud Or Disgusted. Probably All Of Em.
I Dont Know If I Should Be Sad, Disappointed, Mad, Kinda Proud Or Disgusted. Probably All Of Em.

And I’m not even talking about Dori’s outfit, which is, in my opinion, heavily inspired by Aladdin, a problematic movie. Her clothes are very stereotypical too (the shoes, the pants etc.)

PLUS, the scenery doesn’t ressemble the middle east at all ! Surely it was supposed to be a weird mix of a tropical forest and a desert. The thing is, they used a south asian scenery while we were supposed to have a middle eastern one. Heck, it doesn’t even make sense to mix the two regions!

So, to resume it. HYV took inspiration from different cultures, countries and even a religion only to whitewash the characters from the said nations and to regroup them as a single nation. At least, that’s my point of view.

Look, I loved Genshin Impact so much, enjoying the stories, the quests and characters. But now, it’s pretty disappointing seeing a game you loved be stereotypical about your own culture (I’m Iraqi and muslim). I just wanted to share my opinion, I don’t mind having criticism, as long as it’s respectful.

Have a nice day :D

Btw I got some of the info from @sumeruenjoyer on tiktok

ORORUN REDRAW GUIDE !

i think we’ve all seen the atrocity that is genshin’s unreleased character, ororun. the entirety of natlan is a mess really, but as a yoruba person myself i CANNOT keep quiet about ororun specifically.

outside yoruba mythology, in yoruba, ‘Olorun’ (the name ororun is based on, pronounced o-law-roon , with o pronounced as in orange and the ‘roon’ pronounced shortly, not dragged on at all) is actually the same word we often use to refer to God in Christianity. Christianity is the primary religion among us yorubas so honestly, i was kinda glad they misspelled his name. it would feel SO disrespectful referring to whatever that thing is with the same word we use to refer to God who we actually worship. religion aside, genshin’s depiction of Olorun (cultural god, not Christian one) is downright disgusting. i’d never paid too much attention to genshin and its poor representation, but now that my culture has fallen victim to it, i completely understand all the outrage.

edit: please note that while we use ‘Olorun’ to refer to the Christian God, Olorun is just a general word for ‘god’ itself ! for example if i say “God in heaven” and “god of thunder” we know i’m referring to two different beings, in yoruba it’s the kind of the same—the same word is used to refer to both the Christian and other gods, but we know it’s different, even though olorun can be capitalized regardless of what god we’re talking about (unlike english where the Christian God is capitalized and other gods aren’t) at the end of the day though, when we say “olorun” even without context, we are usually referring to the christian God !

1. PLEASE DO NOT DRAW HIM WITH ANIMAL EARS !

ORORUN REDRAW GUIDE !

i’ve noticed that hoyoverse has this nasty habit of portraying every dark skinned character as wild or animal-esque. kaeya seems to be the only exception to this. even xinyan, though lacking any animal features, has this wild energy to her. some might call it a stretch, but i feel like her features are pretty feline in comparison to other liyue characters.

Olorun in our culture is the supreme god of the heavens. In my opinion, it is disrespectful to liken him to something akin to an animal. normally i wouldn’t even mind that much, but with how hoyo makes its few dark characters more and more like animals, i can’t help but feel weird about it. its really off putting.

2. HIS HAIR WOULD NOT BE CURLY !

ORORUN REDRAW GUIDE !

majority of nigerians have 4C HAIR. not wavy hair or loose curls. some have 4B, but 4C is the usual here, that is, kinky or coily hair. Olorun is often portrayed as bald in traditional art, but trust me if he had hair his hair would resemble his people’s, not Tyla’s.

DREADLOCKS ARE A YES ! outside nigeria, locking hair is pretty common, but in nigeria a lot of people have locks naturally. our hair sometimes just grows out that way, no treatment no nothing. dreads are 100% an appropriate style, they look good asf too.

3. PLEASE USE CULTURAL FABRICS IN YOUR DESIGNS !

when i saw ororun’s outfit, i almost started crying. they couldn’t even bother to dress him up a little. they really dressed my brother in a scarf and cape and called it a day 😭 upon how fashionable we nigerians are know to be, hoyoverse still made it their mission to embarrass us stylistically. God knows my people have suffered man 😭

ORORUN REDRAW GUIDE !

ankara is a traditional nigerian fabric that features bright colors and lots of patterned designs. see below:

ORORUN REDRAW GUIDE !
ORORUN REDRAW GUIDE !
ORORUN REDRAW GUIDE !

here in 9ja, we love our ankara. it’s a big part of our fashion here and trust me it would look excellent in your designs. it’s perfectly fine to draw ororun in normal fabrics since he’s a deity and it’s not like ankara existed back then, but if you really want to represent nigeria, ankara is a must 🙏

i’m going to address another fashion piece because if you search up nigerian fashion you’ll see it a lot: beads.

ORORUN REDRAW GUIDE !

these orange beads are igbo (another tribe here in nigeria) NOT yoruba. does this mean you can’t use it in olorun’s design ? no ! let me explain. tbh, here in nigeria there’s a bit of...tension between clans. it’s not that common, but older people are definitely a lot more tribalist. as a yoruba i love my igbo brothers and sisters, i truly believe they’re the most fashionable clan and i adore their festivities, they always go over the top. please, just look at them:

(only one image because of image caps, ugh)

ORORUN REDRAW GUIDE !

anyway, we yorubas wear beads too. but the specific way the beads are worn around the head and in multiple layers round the neck is igbo, not yoruba. though i personally wouldn’t care too much if i saw olorun with igbo beads since all i want is for him to at least look nigerian, at the end of the day he is a yoruba deity. it might be disrespectful to dress the god of one clan as if he belongs to another, especially since there is so much historical ( and very slight but uncommon present ) day tension between both clans.

here’s a more yoruba outfit. sorry yall, it might be hard for you to distinguish if you’re not yoruba or igbo, but a lot of nigerians can tell the difference at a glance. ( actually nowadays, there is so much overlap between yoruba and igbo fashion, but there are many specific styles that may be associated with one tribe and not the other, for example how beads are worn in the above paragraph ) please do your research, he’s not only a nigerian god, but a yoruba one.

ORORUN REDRAW GUIDE !

one more thing, because i know it will start discourse : skin tone.

nigerians have a very diverse range of skin tones. some of us are so pale, if not for our afrocentric features we could maybe pass for another race. however, ororun is yoruba.

light skinned nigerians are usually igbo. not to say that yorubas can’t be light skin, but here in nigeria if you saw a light skinned person, we’d automatically assume they were igbo. igbo people usually have lighter skin tones. majority of yorubas fall on the more milk to dark chocolate end of the skin tone spectrum. i’m saying this now because i know a lot of people are going to start arguments over ororun being redrawn as ‘too light’ or ‘too dark.’ i don’t really care about complexion, but i thought i’d help you all get your facts right.

that’s it ! if you read all this i’m super thankful. i don’t usually post about this kind of stuff but i honestly love my country and could go on about it for days. nigeria is such a beautiful place with a diverse range of cultures— from hausas to fulanis to so many more. natlan was supposed to be Africa’s time to shine, as well as latin americans, but hoyoverse said fuck you and your people. they did this to an extent with sumeru but natlan was done straight up dirty—not a single melanated character in sight, and the only one who does have melanin, iansan, looks so desaturated you might as well call her grey. i saw someone on tiktok call mualani a dark skinned character—it was at that point that i knew genshin was done for.

please REBLOG this post so it reaches more people and artists in the fandom !! this is literally the third time i’m making this post because tumblr refuses to show it in the tags for some reason 😭 i encourage other cultures who feel misrepresented to make posts like this too. it’s a perfect opportunity to educate and inform people about the diverse cultures genshin has once again failed to represent properly.

Hoyo has never been one to make customer satisfaction their top priority, but we’ve been able to call them out before and i truly believe we can do it again. Natlan is not poor design choice. it is blatant racism, a nation based on POC ethnicities with not a single colored character insight. Hoyoverse has been able to escape racism accusations for as long as i can remember, but natlan is the icing on the cake. we CANNOT allow hoyo to proceed as planned without giving them the appropriate backlash.

Also, if you redraw ororun using this guide, make sure to tag me here or on my main blog, @heartkaji !! i’d love to see all your redesigns. once again, thank you all for reading and have an amazing day !!

Genshin Scenarios

Well hello again tumblr~ I haven't updated in quite a while, sorry about that. My writing mostly happens when I have the motivation or when I have a big amount of time on my hands. I do love it though so I'll always come back to it! Anyways enough about me, you came here for a story so it's up to me to deliver!

~The scenario this time is none other than...what if you were Dottore's child? I finished the Sumeru archon quest recently and oh boy does Dottore make my blood boil, but his character is just written so good I couldn't resist the idea~enjoy!

II Dottore and his unexpected experiment turned weakness.Feelings can be tortuous can’t they? Pt.1

What if you were Dottore’s child? Crazy I know or is it?

Obviously you wouldn’t be some normal run of the mill kid, but this isn’t a Frankenstein story either your birthing is…unique

So it all came down to a rebellious stage from Dottores segments or at least one of them. They took some of his DNA and while they were out in Teyvat they found what they were looking for, the abyss.

They left Dottores dna with the abyss and with that the abyss herald two months later handed you to Dottores segment and he returned to Zapolyarny palace.

Dottore was…not in a particularly good mood that day, he threatened to eliminate his segment if they didn’t “for Tsaritsas sake tell me what you did?!”

The segments apparently weren’t phased at all and all they told him was that you were human and you were his, not his segments, not anyone's but his.

Dottore didn’t see any usefulness in you and he clearly didn’t want you, but when he had ordered his segments to get you away from him and to someone who would take you( he hadn’t been completely heartless when he was sure you were his) the segments ran into the other harbingers.

Oh and what a mess this was now. They had run into Columbina, Tartaglia, and Arlecchino.

The three harbingers seeing the baby were shocked, even Arlechinno who was usually cold, expressionless, and collected was stunned.

However they came to a very different conclusion to why Dottores segments had you. They were convinced Dottore had been planning to experiment on you.

Dottore who had been planning to keep you a secret no longer had the choice when they forced him before Pierro and the Tsaritsa herself and what a messy meeting that was.

The segments hadn’t had any reservations in telling them what they’d done, however they left out the abyss and claimed “mysterious circumstances.”

And with that the Tsaritsa declared that you would be raised here in Zapolyarny palace and that the segments would teach you with help from Columbina and Tartaglia.

Arlechinno had tried to take you into her orphanage and Dottore would have accepted if his clones hadn’t fervently disagreed and outright thrown a tantrum about how “she’ll ruin a perfectly good little specimen!”

So with that your care taking was primarily given to Columbina and Tartaglia. Columbina was mostly stationed in snezhnaya and as number three the Tsaritsa and Dottores clones trusted her to watch over you.

Tartaglia on the other hand had been in the abyss and would be able to help you understand everything that came with coming from the abyss, such as time going quicker but never truly aging. Or at least aging slowly.

As a big brother he took to the role of teaching you and caring for you quicker than anyone even himself would have thought.

Later on you would become attached to a certain harbinger someone who you would relate to greatly what with being in the abyss and being considered an “experiment” but that’s another story.

You didn’t know that Dottore was technically your father and you’d never questioned at least out loud who your parents were if anything you just considered Tartaglia your parental figure as your “big brother.”

Dottores segments had taught you as well in your childhood though rarely. Things finally got interesting with their specimen though when you had shown a large interest in inventing.

You however weren’t a scholar and didn’t have an interest in going to “some huge fancy school for pompous fools.” You were interested in learning but only in what interested you and on your terms on your time.

You are extremely smart, just because you take learning in different ways than what would be expected of you doesn’t make you dumb at all, after all everyone’s learning habits are different and can’t be considered the same.

Even though you came about by mysterious abyss circumstances you looked extremely similar to Dottore obviously because of his dna. You never questioned it although you noticed.

Your hair was different shades of blue though the most noticeable were the dark streaks of midnight blue that seemed to swirl in and out like stars.

Your eyes were a deeper red than Dottores, though a dark wine red that when you were angry turned almost black illuminating the bright red star pupils you had…the sign of the abyss or better known as Khanri'ah

You had a deep interest in inventing with the skill and genius to back it up. Even with Ajax’s urging to focus more on fighting which you also loved you were more curious in all the chaotic and destructive devices you could invent.

After all, how else are you going to become a harbinger…oh yeah probably should’ve mentioned you were of course interested in the currently open 8th seat.

So of course you begged Pierro and Ajax to let you go to Dottores lab to beg him to teach you...this will be interesting.

Alright that’s the end of pt.1 courtesy of tumblr’s word limit. I will be making a pt.2 of course, after all the most interesting parts haven’t even begun ;) ~ Lightning 24680~ see you soon!
