Spy x Family Anime Official Guidebook HD scans - part 1
Wanted to make some HD scans of the Spy x Family Anime Official Guidebook, particularly of all the lovely promotional key visuals ❤

There's several more pages of these illustrations that I'll share in subsequent posts (hence the "part 1" in the title!)

Spy x Family Anime Official Guidebook HD scans - part 2
Continuing from my previous post, here's another batch of adorable promotional visuals from the anime. The artwork expands to not only include our beloved Forgers in cute outfits, but supporting characters like Damian, Becky, and Yuri as well.

Spy x Family Anime Official Guidebook HD scans - part 3
Here's the last few pages of the anime promotional visuals in the guidebook (they're all super adorable, but Anya dressed as Franky, Yor, and Twilight is absolute gold).

And that's all I'm going to scan from this book, at least for now. The remaining pages feature things like episode guides, character galleries, storyboards, official Twitter illustrations, seiyuu interviews, and more. It even comes with a neat pull-out poster of the cover illustration (a nicety that many anime artbooks have).

I'd recommend getting the book yourself if you want to see all the pages. It only covers the first cour of the anime so I'll be looking out for another one once the second cour finishes airing!

Spy x Family Anime Official Guidebook HD scans (Character Report) - part 1
I'm back with more scans from the anime guidebook! This time, I made scans of the character design pages.

(If you haven’t seen my previous scans from the book, click here).
Spy x Family Anime Official Guidebook HD scans (Character Report) - part 2
And here's the last batch of character design pages from the anime guidebook, focused on the supporting characters (if you missed part 1, click here).

(There's a few more pages for very minor characters, like Yor's coworkers and Damian's lackeys, but I decided to skip those).
I'm eagerly awaiting the cour 2 guidebook, which will hopefully come out in the next few months. I'll definitely make more scans then so stay tuned! 😁
Spy x Family Exhibition Pamphlet
I got my copy of the Spy x Family exhibition pamphlet! I wanted to make HD scans of some of the notable pages and try to translate if I can.
First off is this great "Main Character Correlation Chart" (sorry for my amateur editing, all I have is MS Paint!)

I love how Bond has a different "bofu" (woof) for Loid and Yor!
Several of the pages show the creation process of the manga, starting with rough sketches to final drafts, using chapter 1 as an example. There were a lot of pages for this, so I just scanned the ones that showed the end of the chapter.

Probably the most interesting pages of the pamphlet are the early character designs/concept sketches. Most of these have already been shared by @sy-on-boy on her post here, but I thought it'd be cool to have them in HD! Unfortunately, even with higher quality images it's very difficult to decipher Endo's handwriting. I could make out just a few words here and there, and Google Lens is very unreliable when the writing isn't clear.
The first page has early concepts for the Forger family, Loid, Anya, the WISE logo, and the Eden uniform.

Things to note are that "Oscar" was a working name for Loid, as was "Yolanda" for Yor. What's also interesting is that a beta version of Franky is shown along with the Forgers. Unfortunately I can't make out the notes about him, but I think this has significance because of a sketch on the next page...
Most of the next page shows concept designs for Yor, with a section for Bond and Yor's coworkers on the bottom.

However, what's really intriguing is the sketch in the upper right of the whole family, titled 疑似家族 (pseudo family).

Once again, a Franky-looking character is with them, and he has the title "Uncle" (叔父) Was an uncle originally going to be part of the main Forgers? Was he actually related to Loid or Yor, or if that character did eventually become Franky, maybe he would just pretend to be Loid's brother? I can also make out the word "otaku" (オタク) in the notes for this character as well as "enjoying life" (人生を楽しんでる) Also in the notes for beta Yor it looks like 最強 (the best/strongest) and バカ (idiot/dummy) All I can make out for Loid's notes are 孤独 (loneliness) I think? And what's up with the older and more sinister looking Anya? She really looks like Ashe there. But these are all just early concept designs/notes so I wouldn't take them too seriously.
The next page titled "East and West During the Cold War" has concept designs for Franky, Yuri, Fiona (referred to as a female WISE spy), a male WISE spy, Melinda, and various assassins from the cruise arc.

The first interesting thing to point out is the notes next to the very crudely drawn woman at the bottom of Yuri's concept designs. It says "Yuri's girlfriend?"(ユーリの 彼女?) though I can't make out clearly what the rest of it says. For the Franky designs, I could make out "tsukkomi or boke". So it looks like at some point Endo was deciding whether to make him more of a tsukkomi (straight man) or boke (wise guy) personality. There's also mention of giving him a high IQ (IQ高い). Also, the fact that the sketches include Melinda and the cruise arc assassins gives the impression that Endo had ideas for these story elements very early on.
But the character relationship chart in the lower left is really intriguing.

I'm not sure how accurate these translations are so take them with a grain of salt, but they do make sense to me. But I have to wonder why Anya and Becky are connected to Desmond. For Becky, it could be because her family has ties to the Desmonds, but why Anya? Could the "mysterious institute/lab" she comes from have ties to Desmond too? Again, these could just be early concepts from ideas that Endo is no longer using, so best not to take them literally. Also, the lack of Shopkeeper/Garden in the character relationship charts, the concept art, and the exhibition overall, really does portray them as a "mysterious organization" that Endo perhaps didn't plan out until later in the series' development and is still trying to figure out. But as far as this sketch, I have to say that despite how terribly crudely drawn all their little heads are, it's easy to identify every character...proof of Endo's top notch character design skills!
Another sketch that stands out is on the same page...

It's a very rough drawing of what appears to be either Loid holding Yor or Yor holding Loid with Anya next to them. But honestly it's such a rough drawing it could be any other parents+child. All I can make out of the text directly above is "My wife is stressed!? At this rate..." And the drawing next to it also appears to be two parents and maybe two children? I also have no clue what the "WJ4C 9/20, etc" at the top means. Very mysterious sketch, lol.
The next page has Eden related concepts, including Becky, Damian, George, and various teachers. The drawings in the bottom section appear to be an alternate/abbreviated version of how the Forgers met.

Pretty funny that an image of Franky is covering what's supposed to be a sketch of Demetrius. The text from Franky says "I can't show you this information yet" which is pretty solid proof that Demetrius will make an appearance in the series eventually. There's also nicknames for Damian and Demetrius in the notes - "Dami" and "Demi."
Some notes on the Eden page says there's 2,000 students in the school, with 13 grades divided into 8 classes/houses. The chart on the left is a list of teacher names and their classes, all of which are given names of colors. None of the teacher names have been used so far in the series.
And all that's on the last page of sketches is a continuation of the previous page with the early concept of how the Forgers started (it honestly looks pretty cute, wish it wasn't just rough sketches). And the following section looks like drafts Endo did for promotional material.

The final pages of the pamphlet are the new extra mission chapter which I already fully translated here.
And that's all I'm going to share for now from the pamphlet! I could spend more time trying to decipher the concept art notes but it was giving me a headache after a while, lol. But if anyone wants to try translating them, go ahead (I have higher quality png files of all the scans if needed...they were too big for Tumblr). And again, these sketches are just trial and error pre-serialization ideas that don't necessarily reflect Endo's final vision for the series, so I wouldn't dwell on them much other than for fun theorizing.
The pamphlet does have other interesting information, including an interview with Endo, a timeline of his work on Spy x Family and other manga, and his notes about random things from the series. So I might return to translating the pamphlet at a later date when I have time/motivation.
Spy x Family Anime (season 1 cour 2) Official Guidebook HD scans - part 1
Back when I first started my blog, I made HD scans of the season 1 cour 1 guidebook, and now I'm back with the same for the cour 2 guidebook! There's a lot more pages I wanted to scan this time, so there will be about six posts in total. I'll try to have a new one roughly once a day!

I adore the illustrations of Anya dressed as the other characters! The cour 1 artbook has the rest of them here.

One really interesting page is the below character relationship chart, which is actually an anime version of the same chart for the manga that was included in the exhibition pamphlet (which I also scanned here. Be warned as it contains manga spoilers). I went ahead and translated this chart too.

Everything between the two charts is basically the same, except for the anime obviously excluding a couple of characters from the manga who haven't appeared yet. The anime version also includes Dominic and Yor's coworkers, as well as swapping Bill for George in the Eden section. Also a very subtle change, Bond's relationship with Yor is "bofu!" in the anime and "bofu..." in the manga 😅
I like how Franky is the only one not grouped with any other character 😆

And that's all the pages of the guidebook I'm going to scan, at least for now! It has over 100 pages but most of it is screenshots from the anime, which I don't think is as interesting as the collab art.

Spy x Family Anime 1st Mission Guidebook HD scans
In addition to the season 1 cour 1 and cour 2 guidebooks, I finally got a hold of the third SxF guidebook, which was actually released a bit before the anime aired. It doesn't have as many notable illustrations, so I'm just making one post of scans!
*NOTE: I've seen blogs reposting my scans in edits, etc, without giving me credit. I'm not gonna name names since it's not worth making a big stink about, but if you do want to repost portions of my scans, it would be nice to give me a mention 😓

And as a bonus, the book includes a postcard and pull-out poster of the below illustration by Endo 😁

Spy x Family 2024 Calendar

My SxF 2024 anime calendar arrived today! Like last year's calendar, this one features six A2 sized poster pages with original illustrations (two months per page). Unfortunately the pages are too big for my scanner, so I had to settle for subpar photos of each page with my phone. However, I did make scans of cropped portions of some pages if they didn't turn out too awkward!
(I love how on the calendar cover page they're wearing their outfits from the season 1 ending 2 "shikisai" 😊)

This first page is my favorite~ I love when Anya holds both their hands ❤️
This part just about fit in the scanner if I cropped out Bond (sorry buddy!)

This adorable page of Loid & Anya scanned the best!

This page was too big to scan unfortunately, but looks real nice if I zoom in on Twiyor with the ocean and sky behind them (the way he's looking at her though... 😁)

The family going out to dinner on a snowy night is adorable! It was too big to scan, but again, I managed to get a good zoom-in on Twiyor!

I know I could scan each page in sections and then put them together like a puzzle, but that's too much trouble, lol. Plus, all these images should be in the next anime artbook, so I'll make HD scans of all of them then!
Spy x Family Animation Art Book scans - part 1
I got my copy of the latest SxF art book, which means more HD scans!

The main feature of this artbook is character and setting designs, of which there's nearly 200 pages! There's no way I can scan all the pages, so I'll have to pick and choose. But for this first part, I wanted to share the unique merch/promo illustrations that haven't been in the previous books.
Firstly, I want to highlight this adorable illustration that was made specifically for this book - painting Forgers in berets ❤️

And here's the rest of the promo scans, mostly of chibi designs that have been used in merch.

I'm gonna be busy in the coming days/weeks with CODE: White news, continuing my Twiyor analysis posts, as well as coverage of the SxF game that's releasing soon. I'll try to make more scans of the book in between all this, but I can't say when or how many yet. But I will scan more pages before too long, so stay tuned~
A couple scans from the Spy x Family CODE: White novelization
I recently got copies of the two versions of the Code: White novelization. One of them came with a character sheet and postcard that I felt was worth scanning! The character sheet features the outfits the Forgers wear throughout the movie, as well as their epilogue outfits seen in the Gen Hoshino music video.

And here's the cute tear-out postcard that was included.

Neither novelization came with any other notable pictures. The other version came with a pull-out poster of the movie key visuals that have been used a lot in the marketing, so nothing worth scanning.

I'm going to try and read through what I can of the novelizations, at least enough to put together a reasonable summary of the movie from beginning to end! Might take me a while, but I should have it done before I'm able to see the movie myself 😂 Stay tuned~
Spy x Family CODE: White movie booklet - 8-page manga translation
I created a translation for Endo's 8-page manga that's included in the CODE: White Film Files booklet. A word of warning though, it parodies a few scenes from the movie, so it not only contains spoilers, but the jokes are much better appreciated if you know what scenes are being referenced - the first panel even has its own spoiler warning! So if you don't mind spoilers, you can read my summary of the movie if you want to know the scenes being referenced in this manga (also, apologies for my poor editing skills!)

Spy x Family miscellaneous collab scans - part 1
I'm back with more HD scans! 😁 Since it doesn't look like we're getting another SxF artbook with new collab/promotional illustrations anytime soon, I thought it would be fun to make scans from other scannable sources like postcards, stickers, etc.
First, the "house painting" designs used for merch at this year's Jump Festa. I only got stickers of Twiyor but Anya and Bond have designs as well. These are some of my favorites, their poses are really dynamic and I love how the white looks with the bright paint colors ❤️ I got acrylic stands of these designs as well, which I'll share in a future merch post.

Next are the camping designs that I got postcards of at a recent Animate promotion (got acrylic stands as well). Loid doing the cooking and Yor getting firewood is fitting! Not sure what Bond wants to do with that pinecone though 😆

Next are cute chibi designs from the movie! They were used on box art and merch for the Meiji chocolate collab.

Next is postcard art from last year's Tower Records collab.

And lastly for this post, the Waku Waku Park promotion that's currently going on! I've had no luck getting acrylics with these designs but I got a clear file at least...didn't think it would scan well but it actually came out pretty good 😃 I love the pink/blue/white color coordination of their outfits (and Bond's bowtie!)

---
I have another batch of collab art scans that I'm going to share soon, and I plan to make more of these posts whenever I get a good amount of scannable items with promo/collab/merch designs that haven't been available in any artbooks.

Spy x Family miscellaneous collab scans - part 2
Here's another batch of HD scans from miscellaneous SxF collabs and other illustrations!
First are these lovely designs of the characters in kimonos from a recent merch line ❤️

Next is art for the Cruise Buffet collab.

Here's a pull-out poster from a recent issue of Spoon magazine, featuring Loid and Yor in their movie outfits! (shoutout to @rafaron1223 for helping me clean up the crease line).

Here's a clear file scan from the Tobu Zoo collab (I love the matching leopard patterns on their accessories! I like that Loid and Yor's are matching colors, as are Anya and Bond's 😁)

And lastly, here's a scan of the sticker pack that came with the preorder of the Operation Diary game.

Spy x Family Animation Art Book scans - part 2
Today I'm back with a few more scans from the Animation Art Book! If you haven't seen the first page of scans I made from this book, click here. Since many of the character design pages in this book are similar to the ones from the cour 1 season 1 artbook, I'm mostly going to skip these, so be sure to check out the previous scans here and here if you haven't already!
While the main feature of the book is character and setting designs, it also contains a lot of miscellaneous, "niche" images that only briefly show in the anime but are interesting if you stop and look at them. One of my favorites is of course Loid and Yor's (fake) marriage certificate and the doctored up photos in their living room. Obviously WISE/Twilight must have some advanced photo editing technology since Photoshop shouldn't exist when the series takes place 😅

Next is some examples of Anya's handwriting and schoolwork, as well as the cipher she and Yor make in mission 20. It's a bit hard to make out, but it looks like she spelled her name "Ania" in the mission 4 example but maybe started spelling it the right way in the mission 24 example? As for those notes at the top from mission 20...is that Bond in the lower right corner? 😂 I can just about make out the first question on the mission 4 paper - it says "Solve if you can understand the clock." The rest says something like "When * will * two hours * effect the current time?" And it looks like her answer is..."Time"? 😅

In contrast, here's some examples of Damian's tests that Daybreak tampered with in mission 18. I'm not gonna bother to check if his math is correct...I'm assuming all or most of it is! I also couldn't help but notice his answer on the cake question, "How many cakes are left?" - instead of just putting "4" he writers out, "There are 4 left." What an overachiever 🤣

Here's a few more scribbles from Anya's notebook, but more interestingly, the Eden schedule of classes. I wonder what the class "Theme" is. And they have to share a poem every morning? I'm surprised we haven't seen one of Anya's poems yet!

And lastly, I wanted to share two character pages for Bond and Fiona since they're didn't feature in the previous book.
