Okay, listen, I know I sound crazy and if you’re not a Swiftie or an Anne Rice fan, then those acronyms are going to look like gibberish to you.

But, the girlies who get it, get it. And this is for us!

I was listening to Tortured Poet’s and thinking about IWTV Season Two (we’re so close to May 12th!), and then something clicked in my brain.

EVERY SONG ON THIS ALBUM FITS INTO THE IWTV UNIVERSE.

Just hear me out.

Due to tumblr’s ten image limit per post, this is going to be a thread of sorts. I’ll be going through every song on the album and explaining where I think they fit into the vampire canon. Starting with…

1.) Fortnight

To me, this song screams a brief fling wherein one party was not “in” as much as the other. And what can unrequited love mean besides, of course, Lesmand.

“You ended up not with the person you loved and now you have to just live with that every day, wondering what would’ve been, maybe seeing them out.”

To me, this song is Armand lamenting the loss of Lestat from his life, and wishing things could’ve gone differently.

“I touched you for only a fortnight, I touched you, but I touched you”

2.) The Tortured Poet’s Department

This eponymous track has to go to Daniel and Armand. It’s only fitting. I know, I know, Daniel uses tapes to record the interview, not a typewriter, but it’s close enough.

If you consider the Devil’s Minion chapter from QotD, this song hits even harder. And honestly, what is Daniel if not a tortured poet?

Lestat is totally the one singing this song. His sad boys (Nicki and Louis) just love to break his little Ken doll heart, don’t they?

So this one could go SO MANY DIFFERENT ways. I’m choosing to give it to Claudia, though. I think the pouty, youthful feel of the song fits her perfectly. This is about her losing Charlie, her first love, and having to deal with how her life will never be the same now that she knows what she’s missing.

7.) Fresh Out The Slammer

Feeling imprisoned in your relationship? Caged with a companion? Trapped for eternity with the object of your resentment? Taylor, are you an Anne Rice stan bc this is getting suspicious…

Pretty much all of the TVC characters have probably felt like they were “breaking free” of someone at some point in this series. These bitches be coming and going like nobody’s business.

Let’s focus on Louis leaving Armand to go back to Lestat. For as much as Louis felt confined by Lestat in their relationship, I have to imagine that his relationship with Armand felt tenfold more controlling and wing-clipping, in the grand scheme of things.

(I couldn’t find a better quote for this, but: LESTAT WENT BACK TO THE PLACE THEY SHARED IN NEW ORLEANS!!! Waiting up for Louis, mayhaps? Daniel is mentioned in the excerpt bc this snippet is from his POV. It’s taken from QotD when Daniel went looking for Lestat.)

8.) Florida!!!

I mean, Armand’s private resort in Miami? I’m not the only one getting Night Island vibes, right?

This song is a metaphor about Florida being an escape, a solace, a drug. That’s exactly how I imagine Armand and the other vampires feel about the Night Island.

9.) Guilty As Sin?

My headcanon for the tv show is that the Devil’s Minion chapter has already happened by the time Daniel goes to Dubai to meet with Louis and Armand again.

This song tells the story of someone fantasizing about their crush, envisioning a life with them, dreaming about touching them - dreams so vivid that the narrator starts to question their sanity and morality because the make-believe is starting to feel real to them.

Let me set the scene: Older Daniel sees Rashid for the first time, and his heart starts racing. That’s odd. He starts thinking about the young man, obsessively. At first, he tells himself it’s because Rashid is a piece of Louis’ puzzle that doesn’t quite fit. But truthfully, he’s entranced by the man with big brown eyes and dark curls. Then, Daniel starts to dream of him. Is he losing his mind?

Maybe.

Or maybe… Daniel and Armand have spent more time together than Daniel can remember? Memory, you sly devil, you.

This is Lestat de Lioncourt in song form. Simple as that.

11.) I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)

Loustat? Lesmand? Armaniel? This song could apply to all of them.

But, let’s dedicate this one to Loumand. My first instinct was to say that Louis would be the narrator of this song - needing to “fix” Armand’s gremlin, manipulative ways. But I actually think a more compelling take on this would be having Armand play the narrator, and Louis being the one in need of “fixing”.

Take, for instance, Louis’ mental breakdown after Claudia’s (and Lestat’s) death. He’s so numb and despondent that Armand starts acting increasingly more and more desperate to get his lover to feel something - to “fix” his depression.

Armand even admits to killing Claudia in an attempt to ignite something in Louis - to no avail, of course.

Armand then tells Louis that Lestat is actually alive in NOLA, hoping that’ll bring some light to Louis’ eyes. But, it doesn’t.

He continually tries to pull Louis from his anguished spiral, trying his best to “fix” Louis’ problems, but in the end he has to admit to himself that he can’t “fix” Louis.

You can also totally look at this through the lens of Louis thinking he can “fix” Armand - make him a better person, be his moral compass so to say.

12.) loml (aka loss of my life)

Nicki and Lestat, duh. I think Lestat would consider Nicki to be the greatest loss of his life. And so many of these lyrics fit them. The way Nicki grew to resent, and then hate Lestat is just so heartbreaking.

13.) I Can Do It With A Broken Heart

This song legitimately applies to everyone. TVC is just a bunch of angsty, existential vampires who have to keep carrying on, despite all their trauma and heartache, bc they’re immortal.

But, I want to shout out Claudia, specifically, bc that girl HAS BEEN THROUGH SOME SHIT. She endures immortality despite the many misfortunes she’s had to face: losing Charlie, losing her chance to live a normal life, losing her adulthood, always feeling second-best, and of course, being brutally killed bc Armand is jealous and petty. (Still love you Armand… it’s okay, I can fix you - no really, I can).

14.) The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived

This is the only song I actually feel guilty (as sin?) about assigning to someone. I’m going to look at it through the lens of how Lestat may have felt about Nicki after they broke up for good. Lestat turned him, and once Nicki was a vampire, he hated Lestat. And then Nicki’s true feelings came to light - how he resented Lestat’s capacity to endure, how he’d gone to Paris with Lestat in hopes that they both would fail.

I don’t think Lestat would feel this bitter for long, but it’s not crazy to think that he might’ve had a period of sulking after all he went through with Nicki.

always knew Taylor was for the high-functioning over-achieving burnout depressed girlies but now she has the *perfect* trio of songs to explain it- mirrorball, I Can Do It With A Broken Heart, and this is me trying (in that order)

I love that Taylor’s words and music brings so many people together because we feel seen only through her. I’ve spent all my life trying to explain “I’m so depressed I act like it’s my birthday every day” and end up feeling like a clown. But in this fandom, we all get each other, we’re seen by one another through this shared piece of connection. That’s the beauty of Taylor’s raw and gut wrenching honesty.
