(tma) Would moths be a symbol of the Eye or the corruption? bc I love a good eyespot and Moth!Jon is a thing
I’m so pissed, I wrote out a whole thing about this and tumblr just deleted it.
Anyway, I think it really depends on the situation. I’d say a moth on its own, not actively corrupting anything falls more under the Eye, whereas a moth infestation in your closet destroying your clothes is 100% corruption. I’d say 9/10 times moths are more Eye than Corruption, not only because the fake eyes match the aesthetic, but because I can also picture a statement about moths where someone with a fear of being watched keeps encountering moths with eyes, or maybe someone finds a moth with real eyes on its wings instead of fake ones.
I’d also like to submit for consideration, moths could be desolation. Moth to a flame and all that. I want Jude Perry or agnes x jack fanart with subtle moth themes. There’s a big missed opportunity for that in the fandom.

Sorry for the delay y'all! University decided it wanted my attention more so I didn't get to finish my Eyes until today. So, introducing to everyone, EyeAvatar!Ivy Alexandra from @girlwholovesturtles's Craniopagus fic! Main thing that hurt doing this was honestly trying to figure out how to get them both mousey and Eye coded. For those unaware; Craniopagus (which you should go read) places The Mechanisms in The Magnus Archive's space, and most of the cast have some connection to an Entity. Ivy is - obviously - tied to The Eye, to the point she eventually Became an Avatar. She is also a mouse humanoid, which means I spent an insubordinate amount of time researching mice eyes, sobbing over the mouse eyes, getting sucked into several Pinterest rabbit holes for no particular, discernable reason, and then deciding to just wing it based on Craniopagus' description and that alone. It's most likely not 1:1 with Kila/CopperRose's "large, doe like, and entirely black" description thanks to the lighting tricks I had to do, but rest assured without the glows they are pure black with very, very, very dark green for the iris. I tried to do a version as well that was more mid-Becoming, but it honestly lacks compared to the final product lmao- Anyway, I gotta play catch-up now, so after my proper Ivy drop later I will either tackle more Craniopagus characters, draw candlecoo's Toy Soldier, or mess with the third, spoopy idea of that Buried rant I did last night. We'll see. The resident Eye Lady definitely makes no clear promises on swift returns, but will try!

Why MothJohn when OwlJohn?
Okay so like being serious here; what's with everyone assigning Monster Johnathan Sims into being a Moth? Why can't he be an owl?
This has bugged me an inordinate amount and in true Eye Lady fashion, I'm gonna try to prove my propaganda ideation has merit (and also unravel this bloody mess).

Owls (mainly the Little Owl) are associated with the Greek Goddess Athena (Goddess of Wisdom, Warfare and Handicrafts), and the Eye is a Wisdom-based Entity fragment.
Being an Owl (Athena) puts them at odds with Spider (Arachne), thus being reflective of the Eye (Watching) and Web (Acting) mindsets.
Harpy John! Like, hello???? Bird wings??? Being a big floofy owl creature like Eda Clawthorne from The Owl House????
Owls blink super quickly so like, metaphor for not being able to close eyes?

Its a subconscious determination and not so much a role decided.
John chose a moth because (insert Points for MothJohn regarding episodes).
Jonah probably would have picked an owl because anything vaguely insinuating a gods involvement sounds about right to him.
If Gerry were alive and had a choice/wanted to I see him picking a Raven probably. Or an Owl. Or nothing.
Rosie as a cat feels pretty cute but realistically I think she'd be a moth just cause of her feelings on being trapped by Elias/Jonah

I'm gonna be brave and do an Oc reveal for my TMA AUs. This OC hasn't appeared or been mentioned in any of my AO3 fics (and probably won't for a bit), but she's extremely relevant to it all.
Introducing... "Ani", the Memory-Impaired (Interim) Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute (as of 2016)!
Introduction
"Ani" (the only name she remembers) quite literally appears in the Dalton household out of nowhere one sunny January, just a week after the People's Church of the Divine Host tried to complete their Extinguished Sun ritual. Despite this, she only has a marking of The End from her exposure to the Dalton stronghold, and an unknown Marking that not even Simone can decipher.
Very few things are gleaned from trying to Compel her, amongst those being that she's Australian, she thinks she's either 21 or 23 and, of course, her assumed name. Everything else she is forced to discover over her year-and-a-half apprenticeship under Archivist Quinn, and afterwards when she is forced to assume the Interim position due to lack of willingness from her co-workers.

Hunters trained under Edalyn were typically ones posed this question, but the Institute begun taking up the idea too when the Thundering Strings started getting too confident.
"Ani" claimed her song was "Navigating" by Twenty One Pilots, but the song does not exist (yet). Thus, she hunts for a new song, and eventually finds herself resonating close enough with "What My Scene?" by Hoodoo Gurus due to her unfamiliarity with her place in the world, and her desperation to clutch to her homeland and its music.
"Try" by P!nk does seem familiarly powerful to her, but she can never bring herself to call it her "Song of the Soul"... more 'the old tune to a life I used to lead' (no one prompted her so she forgot that line afterwards lol)

The obvious choice when I sat there and went ‘which entity is most tied to America’ is the slaughter because the whole, history intrinsically connected to war and fighting and bloodshed and genocide and like, how our country is literally founded on the blood of millions and we just keep adding it and like.
That’s completely correct but I’d also like to say as a close 2nd place America is co-parented by the Eye. Not in any ‘look at all of the cool things we’ve strived to create and engineer’ way but in a control way. I guess that’d be the web, but like-

See the sad thing about Gerry Keay’s death is that Gertrude could protect Gerry from the entities and Mary Keay but there was nothing Gertrude could about the cancer and if she could it would have already too late but if she had embraced The Eye and knowledge it would give her she could have know about the cancer and potentially help Gerry.
