Today I finished the book "They both die at the end" and it hurts💔

i have more followers than Rufus Emeterio on his instagram life is good

THIS BOOK TOOK MY HEART, SHATTERED IT, PUT IT BACK TOGETHER, AND THEN BODY SLAMMED IT AT THE END.

10/10 WOULD READ AGAIN.

Who gave Adam Silvera permission to end the book this way and break my heart??? How dare he show us Rufus after Mateo’s death and then end it like this????

When you finish a book about death and the characters actually DIE!??!

Both are a bundle of sunshine and kindness with a covering of anxiety

I finished they both died at the end last night.

Now that we're all on the same page and understand the level of my emotional trauma :)

There was a moment, when we read from the perspective of Andrea Donahue (Chapter 14) early on in the book, and in this chapter she is talking about how she rushed through her names today and hopes she dosen't get audited and have her calls reviewed tonight. And God knows, I spent the rest of the book thinking she had made a mistake. That Mateo Torez was not going to die because some lady who hated her job, didn't care enough to make sure she did it right. That Rufus was going to show him how to break out and the importance of living and Rufus would die but Mateo would live on for both of them--

Of course, it was never hinted at again and my hope wavered but it was always there. And yet, when it happened-- or rather didn't? Good God, it hurt like hell.

all my favorite books are either intensely gay or intensely sad or both

I just finished this book and now I can't stop crying because, regardless of the spoiler in the title, I can't believe they both actually died at the end 😭😭😭

It fucks me up so badly, the foreshadowing was there all along and even multiple times, but I still couldn't see it and then at the end it hit me like a truck 😭

The reason why Mateo and Rufus lived that long is because they found each other. Rufus pulled Mateo out of his house and hence was the reason why Mateo was away from the stove for so long and Mateo always made sure they crossed the road safely. Also, don’t forget that they both died when the other one wasn’t there to see it.
