Flower Stems

A/N: Hello! I'm so happy to hear that from you, it really warmed up my heart. I love your writing. And of course, I love Tighnari and his overall character. I hope this does him justice, and that you like it <3 I tried something else with this text divider too, reminded me off Tighnari's voicelines about bookmarks, so I doodled a flower.

Genre: fluff, not completely proofread

The lead Forest Ranger may present himself as the warm, stern teacher to most of the folk around him, and with that being said - no one is really surprised when they catch Tighnari doing something more... domestic

He was never the kind of person to try and hide away and softness he may hold within him, but he also ensured that his kindness was never taken for granted and as some form of blindness to the rest of the world around him. If his status as a former Akademiya student isn't enough to prove his level of knowledge, his actions in his work field definitely does.

Even the mundane way he picks up long, thick stems of flowers, and the way his bare fingers weave the same stems through loops and knots - the elegant way he arranges the flower crown before your eyes makes it seem so easy, but when you try it, you're quickly proven otherwise

The fragile stems are smushed or get cracked, but Tighnari doesn't anger nor does he flick your forehead in disappointment. At best he would throw one of his witty comments, and then he'd gently take your hands, and help you weave a new flower through the previous loop, guiding you with his voice all the while

"You just need some more practice, don't wear yourself down just due to one mistake..come on, I'm watching over you. How about you go with this flower next?"

It's rare for him to find much free time to properly wind down, so he doesn't waste it whenever a sunny day comes by. He loves the feel of sunlight and lightly warm air on his tail and ears, and he loves feeling the weight of your head on his thigh as you both rest on some high branch, or in the warm shade of the undergrowth

You wouldn't have to ask him to play with your hair, he would do so on his own the moment you lay down and those strands fall over him

He knows one or two things about braiding, and he's so gentle at picking and separating small portions of your hair to play with and braid. Tighnari doesn't want to pull on your hair, and if either of you have a brush at hand, he'd brush out any knots first. He doesn't ask for you to teach him, he would prefer to hone this little skin on his own, but the first time you wince when he accidentally pulled too sharply he's asking for your aid

Those big ears of his are perked forward as you pull some hair to the front and begin explaining the classic way of braiding, and his fingers follow your motions on the previous strands he began a braid on

It feels weirdly intimate to him. He even suggested to wear matching ones, just a small one if you would prefer to do something else with the rest of your hair. He would braid yours himself, and you can make a small one in his hair. He would pull on it gently throughout the day when he's reminded of you, or just needs a semblance of stability

If, by chance, you are interested in some essential oils for your hair, Tighnari will be more than happy to offer some of his top favorites. Although he makes sure they aren't harsh, since he usually uses those on his tail, and fur and hair are quite different.

It goes without a doubt that he'd try and introduce you to more mushroom recipes. Tighnari is always mixing new ingredients into his mushroom dishes, and he would always make a portion extra for you. He would try it with you if the meal looks too intimidating to you and he would tell you all about it you're willing to listen

If the mushroom is big and sturdy enough, he would try cutting out some shapes, like crescent moons, fish, flowers..etc.

Tighnari makes a note to visit you before bed (if you are not living together again) and kiss you goodnight. He's almost parental with it, but he just wants you to be well and healthy and sleep well. He would grow grays besides his green streaks if you were to fall ill

Opposite of the last note, he would visit you earlier in the morning before his patrols, leave a flower or some breakfast on the table for you, and then he'd leave, without disturbing you.

Dancing With Visions - The Dance I Enjoyed - Cumbia - Tighnari

Author Notes: So, I wasn't initially going to include cumbia as a dance for this series but after the lovely @theroseredreaper suggested I include a chapter using it and even suggested I use Tighnari for it, I couldn't resist. So here it is and I truly hope I did a good job of writing this dance style! The performance in this fic was inspired by the youtube videos "How to dance:Cumbia - Basics (Part 1)” and “Cumbia Turns with Arm Combination | How To Dance Cumbia | Online Dance Classes | Waldo & Jacqui”. This fic was written while listening to the song “A Donde Vas” By Carolina Lao. Just like the rest of this series, Reader is female. I hope you enjoy!

Collei sat off to the side, her hands resting on her legs as she leaned forward with anticipation, and I found myself smiling at the young lady, shaking my head slightly.

Somehow, I wasn’t surprised that she’d decided to learn a dance. She was always pushing herself to try new things, and I had no doubts she would want to show her new moves off to her friend, Amber, on her next trip to Mondstadt.

I hadn’t hesitated when Tighnari had asked for my assistance teaching her. It had been quite some time since I’d last danced with my friend from school.

Me and Tighnari had stayed in touch, of course, but with his busy schedule, dancing was hardly anything he had time for. 

In fact, most of the time our interactions were just correspondence through letters. I was more likely to see Collei or Cyno than I was to see the ever-busy forest watcher. 

I stood next to the young, green-haired lady while we waited for the man in question to arrive. And after a brief moment, I glanced her way once more with a slight smile, noting the nervous way her fingers were lacing and unlacing themselves, “Don’t worry, the cumbia isn’t hard, and, as you’ll see once Tighnari gets here, it’s a fun little dance.”

I walked over to the middle of the floor where I’d already blocked out three squares with tape, two in front and one in the back, “I’ll show you the basics real quick though, so you can watch for that when me and Tighnari do dance.”

Collei nodded, her eyes already bright as she looked from the squares and back to me. Under her fascinated stare, I stepped into the two front squares that were side by side and glanced up at her.

“So I’m going to tap forward with the heel of my right foot before stepping back into this back square. Then cross over with the left foot into the right front square before bringing my right foot back forward to stand in the same right, front square with my feet together.” As I spoke, I did as I said, pausing between motions to check if she was following.

“Now tap forward with the heel of your left foot before stepping back with that same foot into the back square.” She nodded at my instructions, watching my feet closely and causing me to smile in quiet amusement as I continued, “Now cross over with the right foot into the left front square and bring your left foot up to stand with your feet together.”

She looked up at me when I stopped, and I smiled, “You just keep doing this same motion over and over, though you’ll have a slight twist in your body as you do the motions to tempo. Easy, right?”

I quickly demonstrated the same steps at the actual dancing tempo, smiling as she nodded with a smile of her own.

“Already getting started without me, I see,” My motions froze at the sound of a familiar voice, and I twisted to see Tighnari smiling at both of us from the doorway he was leaning up against.

I crossed my arms, smiling at the young man and tilting my head slightly in a teasing fashion, “Well, you weren’t showing up, so I thought I’d go ahead and start teaching her.”

He pushed himself off the door frame, a smile on his face as he walked over to where I stood, even as he looked over at Collei, “And, how has she done? Have you understood everything Y/n said?”

Collei nodded, smiling as her eyes darted between the two of us, “Yeah, everything made a lot of sense.”

I smiled almost smugly over at my partner, “See? I’m a good teacher.”

“Uh, huh, I guess that means you still remember the steps then?” His tone held distinct undertones of teasing that all but had me rolling my eyes.

“Of course I still remember the steps; I’m the one who signed us up for classes, remember?” I twisted, taking his hands in mine as I grinned at him and already beginning to shift slightly to the music that Collei started for us.

His lips twitched up into a fully visible smile, “Yes, as I recall it took quite a bit of time away from our other school work.”

I snorted, starting to shift with Tighnari, both of us already matching the beat and falling into the rhythm like we’d never stopped dancing together, “It was good for you.”

His eyebrows rose as we started to turn, sarcasm filling his voice, “Enriching even.”

I laughed quietly, letting him spin me lightly before my arm raised so that he could spin under it. A small part of me wondered if Collei was able to follow us. If not, we could always break it down for her later.

Off to the side, I could see her smiling, bobbing along to the music as she watched the two of us. 

Tighnari spun me again, having long since let go of one of my hands so that he could better shift around the space with me, a smile on his face as he watched me.

I twisted so that my back was now to him, and he shifted as I extended one arm. He took my hand as his other hand rested lightly on my waist, and I glanced at him over my shoulder, my voice softening so that Collei couldn’t hear me over the music, “Say, why do you think Collei wanted to learn the cumbia?”

I wasn’t able to keep the curiosity out of my voice, and he sighed slightly, a smile still on his face as he matched my volume, “I may have mentioned something about how you made me take classes. It probably piqued her interest.”

I snickered slightly, twisting so that he could spin under one of my arms, now holding both my hands before he led me to the same, “See? I knew you enjoyed it. Why else would you have mentioned it to your student?”

He snorted slightly, shifting so that we were facing each other once more, briefly in a hold more like what one would expect from a partner dance. One of his arms wrapped around me so that he could hold my waist while his other hand held one of my hands, my other arm wrapped around him and my hand pressed to his back, “I’m not so sure it was the dance that I enjoyed so much as the partner.”

 He slipped back so that we were only attached by one pair of conjoined hands as I smiled in surprise at him, “Well, aren’t you feeling a little flirty?” 

He chuckled slightly before we twisted and let go of one another’s hands.

We both looked up at the same time at Collei as his arm slipped around my back and mine around his shoulders.

The young woman looked at us with a bright smile, and I felt myself smiling in return as Tighnari tilted his head, “Did that all make sense?”

I laughed at his words, shaking my head as he looked my way, “Tighnari, you haven’t even explained it to her yet.”

“Well, you said you had and that you were a good teacher,” He smiled at me, his eyes glimmering and giving away his teasing nature as I gave him a half hug. 

I leaned against him before looking over as Collei started speaking, “It did make sense! When do you think I can try?” 

Her eyes were bright and her hands pressed together excitedly as I laughed slightly, “As soon as you’re ready!”

you hadn’t intended to ever hide your sickness from him, honestly

you woke up with the incoming feeling of what you assumed was a fever. your temperature was high and you felt fatigued

still, when your red haired boyfriend came prancing into your shared bedroom excitedly shaking your shoulders begging you to join him on his day off, you felt as though you couldn’t refuse

he was just so happy and you didn’t want to ruin that, not when he had been so stressed recently

walking around ritou with him seemed to be alright

the weather wasn’t bad and he even took you to a few shops for some lunch and souvenirs

but as the time passed, your head felt dizzier and your eyes stung a bit. the red of the maple trees was blending with the blue of the sky and the shops around began to spin

“are you okay?” he had asked worriedly, noticing your eyes began to droop and the overall fatigue you seemed to be experiencing

he put a hand to your forehead and noticed the burning sensation and light sweat building quickly

“shit, you’re sick? why didn’t you say anything?” he asked as he began to rush you home. his arms were around you, steadying you against him

“you were so excited,” you mumble against his shoulder, “i didn’t wanna ruin that, but it looks like i did anyway.”

the detective’s heart ached as the words left your mouth, he couldn’t believe you would say something like that, “please don’t say that again. your health matters way more than my fun, don’t ever forget that.”

when you got home, you fell asleep quickly, all snuggled up in the warm covers

heizou dimmed the lights and brought some medicine and water to place on the table next to you for when you woke up

as he got in the bed with you, he made sure to pull the blankets snuggly over you and bring you closer to his chest and placing a small kiss to your forehead

“i love you,” he whispered before shutting his eyes and holding you close.

thoma:

thoma hadn’t asked you to help him with chores, but here you were…helping him with chores

although the weather was beautiful, it was spring and in influx of new leaves and all sorts of pollen was in the air and on the floors of the estate

you were kind enough to help your boyfriend out with all of the spring cleaning to prevent him from getting stressed

unfortunately, it only lead to you getting stressed and consequently sick

you had already felt the oncomings of sickness for the past week

from various headaches, lack of sleep, the inability to eat, all the way to a runny nose and sore throat — you knew it was only going to worsen, but still clung to the hope it was just spring allergies

still, you chose to help him anyway while also leaving out the details of your sickness

about two hours had passed since your last break before fatigue hit you hard. the rake you had been using to gather fallen flowers was now leaned against the wall

your arm was resting against the railing to balance yourself as you sat on the small set of stairs under the shade

“thoma,” you called out to him through shut eyes and rushed breaths, “i’m so sorry, i- i don’t think i can help you anymore.”

he ran to you almost instantly, dropping everything in his hands to check if you were okay

when he saw you weren’t, he rushed you inside to your guys’ shared room

“oh archons, i’m so sorry i didn’t notice! you really didn’t have to help me if you weren’t feeling good,” he apologized, urgently trying to help you

it was like that for hours after

he was constantly apologizing for not noticing and you could tell he truly felt bad

he even brought you fresh homemade soup and anything else you so desired. you name it, he got it

at the end of the day, he fell asleep alongside you, swearing to stay by you until you felt better.

he didn’t even care if he got sick. if it was for you, it was worth it

tighnari:

tighnari had been frustrated all week

you had noticed that almost instantaneously and even if you hadn’t, all of his grumbling, dark eye bags (which he never seemed to have), and the distance he was placing between you would have made it blatantly obvious

he didn’t seem himself as of late and that made you feel a bit down yourself

eventually it got to the point where his mood was dampening everyone else’s and you had fallen ill

the forest watcher was so stressed that he hadn’t even noticed

you had tried to tell him when he requested you help him with collecting samples of withered areas, but he was quick to shut you down before hearing you out, requesting that you, “please just help me without complaining.”

under normal circumstances, you would have told him off and not allowed him to dictate over you like that, but you weren’t feeling well at all and didn’t have the energy to argue

besides, it would only be an hour and a half right? you figured you could get through that

you should’ve known what you were getting into. your boyfriend always took longer than expected, though you hadn’t expected an hour and a half to turn into two, which then turned into three

when you realized the time, you began to ask to go home and just come back tomorrow. it was getting dark and was definitely a reasonable request of him

but tighnari wasn’t in the mood and he brushed you off, choosing not to answer your question

moments later, his equipment fell and broke — almost as if karma had struck him

he was never one to lose his cool so easily, but here he was yelling at nothing and kicking his bag over

when you had asked him to calm down, he refused and snapped at you too.

he didn’t mean it — you knew that, but you couldn’t help but feel like he did. like he meant to snap at you and that all his anger was somehow your fault

mixed with the fatigue and shivers from your now fully developed fever, your eyes drooped and you fell forward into unconsciousness

hours had passed before you awoke. but when you did, you found tighnari right by your side handing you a cup of water and some of his homemade medicine

“i’m so sorry,” he started quickly, stumbling over his words as he tried to apologize, “i was so selfish forcing you to go with me. i mean, what kind of boyfriend doesn’t even notice when their partner is sick?”

you cough before responding, “you were a little harsh, but it’s okay now. you were just stressed and no one was around to help you out when you needed it, so don’t feel too bad okay?”

he nodded sadly and fell against your lap, still guilt-stricken by his lack of awareness and clouded mind from just a mere few hours ago

he would take the next week off he decided. taking care of you was more important and he had a lot of making up to do

dottore:

you weren’t surprised the doctor had failed to recognize the fact that you were sick

while he was a doctor, he wasn’t one that cared for his patients or anyone besides himself

when he had called you to his lab early one morning to aid him in some lab work, you knew there was no chance of it ending well

you loved him, you really did, but your boyfriend was pushy. and when his mind was set on something, it became the most important thing to him

today he had asked for your assistance in his lab for whatever new experiment he had conjured up this time

initially, you refused as you weren’t feeling well and didn’t have the energy

but, as aforementioned, dottore is a stubborn man and wouldn’t take no for an answer

“dottore, i’m not feeling we—“ you tried to argue with him

“ah ah, i do not care what excuse you have this time. i need your help and only your help.”

he didn’t even hear you out

so you sucked it up and helped him

about an hour had passed when you began feeling strained

back and forth of reaching for different materials and finding information for him became too much

“can we just take a break?” you breathed out heavily, immune system weak from your sickness

“no, what did i tell you? it is imperative that we do not stop until this is finished,” he stops for a moment, tone softening as he turns to you, “i’ll take you out to that place you’ve been wanting to try later, i promise. just, help me with this and we can go.”

you smile at the offer, happy he was finally making the time to go out with you, but it wasn’t enough

as soon as he asked for the next object, your dizziness kicked in as your neck craned to see it up on the high shelves of his lab

and the next thing dottore heard was a thud with you on the ground

“dottore… i can’t— i’m so sorry,” tears pool at your eyes as your fever worsens

he helps you up with a stern look, his arms wrapped around yours as he pulls you closer to inspect your face, “why didn’t you tell me you were sick?”

“are you serious? i did tell you! you didn’t listen to me,” you exclaim

dottore softens in the way he only does around you, quietly offering you an apology and his coat to warm up your shivering body “i apologize, my love. i should not have been so neglectful of my own partner.”

he’s careful as he carries you to your shared bed and wraps you up:

“how about that restaurant? i’ll pick up whatever you want.”

childe:

sometimes childe can be a literal child. you knew that when the two of you began dating. sometimes you minded, other times you didn’t

he had a way of nagging when he wanted things and whining when he didn’t get them

you hadn’t gotten out of bed all morning and childe was getting impatient, hoping you would spar with him today for fun

you didn’t bother to tell him you were sick, thinking that he’d eventually realize later in the day

but childe was having one of those days and didn’t have a care in the world for anyone but himself

he came in to your shared room and collapsed on you, completely missing the pained grunt you let out as complaints flew left and right out of his mouth

things like: “spar with me, please!” and “c’mon we haven’t challenged each other in so long!” among many other complaints

he was right, it had been along time. and while you didn’t exactly want to spar with him today, you figured if you just indulged him for one round he would let it go

so you got up and got your equipment desperately trying to ignore the pounding of your headache

childe was beaming with excitement as he kissed your cheek and ran out to grab his equipment

when you got outside to join him, the chilly wind of snezhnaya bit at your skin and made your nose run faster than it had been before

childe quickly went in for a few hits, you dodged them and countered him quickly

it seemed to increase his determination as he charged at you effectively hitting you in the side

you didn’t let it affect you too much, aside from a bit of coughing which your boyfriend had chalked up to being from the impact of the hit

you had only lasted ten minutes longer before he landed one last hit, knocking you to the ground

“oh, c’mon! that one wasn’t even that bad. don’t tell me you can’t handle a hit that weak!” he laughed, just teasing you

you bent over on your hands and knees, violently coughing as tears poured out from your eyes

“hey hey hey, what’s wrong?” childe panicked as he dropped to his knees next to you with one hand placed on your back to support you

his hand reached your forehead, feeling a burning sensation, “woah, you’re burning up! why didn’t you tell me you were sick?”

“you were—“ you were cut off by your coughs, “so excited to spar. i figured if i just indulged you for a round or two i’d be fine…”

“hey, you didn’t have to do that,” he said softly, “i would’ve understood if you just told me. i care more about you than fighting, you know that.”

childe picked you up quickly and brought you back inside your shared home and to your bed, wrapping you up cozily under the covers before joining you

“childe, no— you’ll get sick,” you tried to push him away.

he smiled and firmly placed a kiss on your lips,“oh c’mon, when have i ever cared about that?”

You were exhausted, tired and sleepy. Your sleep schedule has gone haywire and you barely remember the last time you actually slept on your comfy bed instead of your wooden desk, stacked with papers

Working on papers for the akademiya was fun at first, but slowly became unbearable. Your papers were getting rejected left and right, making you think you should just quit being a student in that horrid school all together.

You knew better than to do that, being a scholar was your dream since you were a little girl. You simply couldn't give up now.

Being focused on forcing your eyes to stay open, and trying hard to not make your handwriting sloppy. You didnt realise a certain fennec fox leaning against the doorframe of your room. He knew you'd been working day and night to submit a paper that was deemed worthy by the akademiya in fact, he saw you from your window earlier that day still reading notes and writing them down.

The fox looked at you from behind, not saying a word not wanting to disturb your state. He softened his gaze and slowly walked towards you

"Sunflower, its time you go sleep. Youve been on your desk since 5 PM, come on lets go" placing his hands gently on your shoulders in fear of startling you.

"Hmmm" was your response, not looking away from your paper and reference documents. You CLEARLY werent listening to him and you CLEARLY wont end up sleeping

Your halfassed response caused ypur boyfriend to frown and scoff. Looks like you've awaken his sassy personality now.

He pushed your chair away fron the desk, making you face him "youre not listening to me dear"

Without letting you spit back a response or give another excuse the man carried you bridal style and made his way to your bed

Me happy about Tighnari being the first character with an Arabic name to be introduced(being an Arab myself and enjoying the rep), prompted me to find out the inspiration behind him and his design. I came across a FandomWiki forum saying that Genshin Tighnari was inspired by a real life botanist/poet from Andalusia. I immediately had to go check and found that it was true! There was in fact a poet named Ibn Abdullah Muhammad Ibn Malek Almuri Altighnari-- Altighnari being a nickname in reference to the poet originating from a small village called Tighnar just north of Granada, Spain. But despite Andalusia having been an Arab-conforming place at the time (at the time of the Islmaic reign) the fashion was not plausible to be the true reference for in-game Tighnari's clothes. They were rather simple, although being the source of many other traditional clothes in the East. but it made more sense that the clothes originated from Easter Africa than Spain because Sumeru's forest is mainly based off of Persia and Morocco, and it's desert area being based off of Egypt. So I searched through the these exact places, their traditional clothes, and I studied each similarity, excluding Egyptian clothes cause I already know what those look like (way too far fetched for this qjhsnjaks) I had high hopes for Morocco's clothes, until I found that there were many missing details and too many iterations for their style to properly compare them to Tighnari's outfit's and its supposed source of inspiration. there was no large belt and no strange ropes. Til then I had come across another sadly debunked FandomWiki forum saying that Tighnari could have Amazigh origins, but despite, I believed it for a while actually! it was the most (if not the only) plausible answer, seing as how despite Al-tighnari and the Amazigh being from two completely opposite regions, it held more possibility that the cultural clothes that belonged to them could be the inspiration for Tiggi bois outfit. I was very fixated on studying just general Amazigh style clothing, but BUT THEN I came across one particular photo that had an outfit EXACTLY like Tighnari's and I went BINGO!! there was everything, the excessive misc, the colorful ropes, the wide belt and the strange accessories. I FOUND IT FOLKS!!! TIGHNARI IS BASED OFF OF TUAREG CULTURE!!! The tuareg people of the desert whose attire never fails to wow me. it's so colorful and lively it's actually so pretty!! So upon all this, I decided to recreate Tighnari's design to my liking to make him look more authentic!!

I kept some aspects of his original outfit, like most of the colors and the misc, but I also added many cultural touches!! the jellabah (dress), the headscarf and the traditional jewelery worn by women! I thought I would be a nice touch :D
