Back for some more WEBTOON “reviews”. I feel like I should have a disclaimer that these are all purely my opinions as a NONprofessional. I don’t write or draw comics so I don’t know anything about the technical side, I just talk about how I felt when reading. Anyways, recently I’ve read a couple so I’ll write them all down:

Immortal Weakling (Yaruno/Civen): pretty good! It has an interesting story and art, I’m not quite sure where it’s going yet but it looks to be starting out nicely.

Sword interval (Benjamin Fleuter): this one is finished and I have to say it is an insanely awesome story. It’s a great read and has lovely complex characters and lore/world building. Truly a master piece!

Saint Catherine (brusierkee): this one is great too! I think it’s on a hiatus and so far I’m not sure how far into the story we are, but I love the idea so I think it will be really interesting. Plus the art style is adorable.

Souris (littlemothpants): this one is kind of a reread because it had been a while since I caught up, but I definitely enjoyed it. I think the story is really interesting, it’s one of those zombie apocalypses and while I may be wrong, it feels like the author has found ways to make the world building unique despite the commonality of the zombie trope.

The Witch and the Bull (moonsia): absolutely amazing! I love this story, it is so unique and the world building is beautiful. It really feels like the author put a lot of thought into how the story will build in complexity.

Holy Hell (Marilyn Hightower): this is the final one I’ve finished. I LOVE the art style and I think the story is really interesting so far. I wouldn’t say it’s brand new, but I do think it’s newer, so the full shenanigans haven’t erupted yet, but from what I can tell it’s gonna be awesome.

Another WEBTOON review. I feel like putting a bit more summary into these so people (idk who’s reading these but I’m pretending people are) can get a sense of which comics they’d be interested in.

1. TRINITY by stillindigo : BEAUTIFUL AMAZING SHOWSTOPPING!!! Immediately intriguing, and the art is just ✨. I’m in love and I can’t wait to figure out how to keep reading. The comic takes place in a divided world that is governed by three AI, or the Trinity. The MC is on their way to becoming part of the Trinity’s maintenance team when shenanigans ensue. 100/10 recommend

2. Echo by Nian_qu: super cute! Love love the art style, it’s really simple and sweet. This one’s a cute lil childhood friends -> seperated for a while -> crushes

3. A mobsters soul by Swaejin: A GL!!!! I find it pretty hard to find good GL on WEBTOON, so this comic is exciting to me because it is indeed a Good GL. World of monsters and humans, monster bonds with human, shenanigans…

4. Nexus Point by Trevor Mueller and Sebastian von Buchwald: great art! Super cool plot! World based in the future when technology is everywhere, even in our bodies. Hackers are disappearing after being brought in by bounty hunters. One such bounty hunter goes after a hacker who was in a pretty peculiar situation. Next thing ya know, dream team solving world problems??

5. The Doctors are Out by Blau: OMFG maybe it’s because I just finished it 2 minutes before writing this, but this is one of those that you can’t get off your mind. 2 seasons out on WEBTOON already, and ig one more to go? I am ITCHING to keep reading. There is so much emotion, communication, and INTENSITY to this comic. Though it starts with a meet “cute” between a vet and a doctor that work next door, it quickly becomes much much more as their complicated pasts and futures intertwine…

(Disclaimer: ya girl is not a pro comic writer or artists, these are all my opinions, read what you want) BUT ALSO I RECOMMEND ALL OF THESE SO HARD

Webtoon Review Chronicles

I don't know if I should actually be calling these reviews, because i hesitate to say that I am in any way shape or form qualified to critique webtoons. So i guess here is a disclaimer *please take everything said in these "reviews" with a grain of salt. I am not a comic artist myself (yet), and I am definitely basing these reviews on my own opinions, not really much else. Art is subjective, enjoyment is subjective. By all means, enjoy any webtoons you want (as long as youre not hurting anyone or yourself ofc).

Last time I reviewed webtoons on here, I believe I had just caught up to Trinity, a canvas comic by stillindigo. I still cannot recommend that comic enough, but it appears to be on an extended hiatus. :( Anyway, since then, I have read... A fuck ton of webtoons. I actually have a spreadsheet made for all of the webtoons I have started, caught up to, quit on, etc. So I'm not really sure where to start with these reviews, but I guess I'll just start with what i finished most recently.

Candid Hearts (by antlerella): This is a super cute webcomic that was just recently released as an original! I actually read another of the artist's comic (Brass n Sass) and that one was amazing. I think you can definitely see the artist's growth between BnS and this comic. The characters are super cute, and the colors are to die for. There are only 4 free episodes up right now, so I don't have much to say, but I definitely look forward to reading more.

Stolen Siren (by Dustiiok): This is a canvas webtoon about siren/mermaid creatures and its a GL! The story is still in it's earlier stages I would say, but the world building and art so far have been super interesting. I love the author's interpretation of sirens and they draw some really great backgrounds/landscapes. Some of the character development/relationship building feels a little rushed to me, especially between the two MCs. The characters seem to be quick to trust and quick to care for each other, not just from an empathy standpoint, but from a "i will put my life on the line to save you" standpoint, which feels a little forced given the events, but the story and characters are still very enjoyable.

Dame Daffodil (by sakura-rose12): Another canvas webtoon, and another GL! Honestly, I get really excited when I see any GL or sapphic comics on webtoon, no matter the genre or art style, but this one made me extra excited. I'm kind of surprised this comic isnt already an original given the quality of art and the premise of the story, but there are so many canvas webtoons that have incredibly high quality, so i guess it should be surprising. This webtoon has a super cute cartoon style and centers around a sweet hyperactive teen girl who is dedicated to becoming a superhero to save others. At first glance, the story seems shallow and cutesy, and it definitely is cute, but after catching up you will find out that there is more to this plot than meets the eye. I can definitely recommend!

That's all for this post. I think I'll definitely have to start making these posts one comic each since I have so much to say, but I hope people actually enjoy these!

DUDE

Have you ever heard of "Idiots Don't Catch Colds"? It's a web comic, a really good one, actually. From Aina Palm (@aina-p) I discovered it like two weeks ago, and I read from chapter 3 to the most recent one on the weekend. It's about two dudes, Souta, an energetic soccer fan and player who struggles with school, and Nao, a cold and sorta mysterious guy who doesn't seem very interested in socializing at all. Both go to the same school and hate each other, but *gasps!* they have to do a school project together! Also, turns out Nao is on the soccer team with Souta? And he is better than him!? Inevitably, they start spending more time with each other, and their relationship starts changing and stuff. It's an "enemies to lovers", which is not really a spoiler, we all know it. But the rest is a spoiler, so go read it, it's on webtoon (canvas) and tapas.

 DUDE

(So... Is it me or did I just do like an unpaid, unasked sponsorship for this comic?)

EVERYONE LISTEN UP!

There's this really amazing webtoon that you are missing out on called "The Death and Him" by Goingnwod, its a BL romance with fantasy, incredible world building and epic speeches.

The premise of it is as follows 'The lonely God of Death decided to get himself a wife. But due to a translation error between Gods and Mortals, instead of the most beautiful womanin the world, he was given a young man instead...'

I really like the depth of these chatacters and the f e e l s they give you. You see where they are coming from and understand their actions, even if they were wrong.

Bonus points if you like sassy quick witted Main Characters in Bl who stand up for themselves and meet the love interest on equal footing.

But the one thing that really drew me in is the (pun unintended) Goddamn Art

EVERYONE LISTEN UP!

Each panel looks like it took years to draw and every dialogue, quip and speech feels so natural.

The romance is a slow burn with the Main Character (in the blue) having a messy past. Death is a bit of a dick but he is willing to be learn to be better.

Its a story about two people who are just trying to make their lives a little better and maybe with eachother in it. Without their past or any supernatural event interfering.
