Reading Fanfic vs Books speed
I just realized while reading Sansûkh by determamfidd that I just read over the half way point of the fanfic. Half the fanfic has more words than Order of the Phoenix. The whole fanfic is probably more than half than the whole entire Harry Potter series. But here is the thing that baffels me. It took me around 10 days to read Order of the Phoenix but 2 days for me to read over the halfway point of Sansûkh.
WTF
Y’all I need some content recommendations for the holidays. Like I think I will go crazy if I don’t have something to get into. So anybody, gimme what you got. Music recommendations, podcasts, books, tv shows, movies. Literally on my knees. Simply ravenous for new content
Thank you, thank you, you’re far too kind, as always, @the-golden-comet! I’m adding @gioiaalbanoart, who has also been nothing but kind to me, and also loved The Tengu And The Angel, and my darlings Kunio and Nathaniel, as well as @alwri-tes, who had also read and loved my debut novel! Shadow’s Hidden Blade is 100% gonna be the next item on my reading list!
I’m sick of being told that tumblr is dead and new artists/writers can’t thrive on here. This is the only website that has ever supported my work - work that is too queer, erotic, and genuinely subversive to survive the omnipresent corporate algorithm. The fact that there are people out there making posts and memes and fanart about my book blows my mind.
(Staff has done everything in their power to run this website into the ground, so I don’t want to heap uncritical praise on them of course.)
I enjoy novels with a bit of romance just like the next guy, but I'm getting sick of reading the same lame ass relationship dynamic where a masculine man with anger issues and overprotective tendencies (that end up paying off in the end) is with a feminine woman who has little to no personality besides sarcastic comments and sex appeal (and was obviously written by a man who had no idea how to write women).
That being said, does anyone have any book recommendations featuring a relationship dynamic that's more interesting and less misogynistic? Preferably where the woman is the dominant, masculine one in the relationship and the man is softer and more feminine.
(Bonus points if there's a kidnapping involved. I eat that shit for breakfast.)
Also, if horror is your thing, The Only Good Indians is excellent but not necessarily YA. There, There by Tommy Orange is also VERY good!!! Don’t forget to buy from Indigenous bookstores or borrow from your local library!!!
TRIGGER WARNING
But as an Indigenous person, Sherman Alexei is a known AND admitted sexual predator. I don’t support him anymore, because I find it far too triggering. At least three women have come forward, and he admitted to it and apologized. But just so everyone is aware, there are far more Indigenous authors you can support.
25 YA Books for Indigenous Peoples Day
With only 2 exceptions, the books below are written by indigenous authors. (Tree Girl is written by a white American born in Bolivia, but takes place during the Mayan genocide of the 1980s; Golden Kamuy is written by a non-Ainu Japanese, but is one of the few books about this culture)
For brevity and diversity, I did not include all the North American Native books I found - feel free to post your favorites in the comments! If anyone can suggest more Latin American indigenous stories (which were difficult to find from Latine authors) or especially Hawai’ian native stories (which I couldn’t find any of), please let me know.

Underrated playwright appreciation post!
Anyone who doesn’t know the work of Scott C Sickles… fix that.
His dialogue is gorgeous, premises alternate between hilarious and heart-wrenching, and there’s so much stuff to love.
Also I just reread Unjust Sound of Unseen Waves and… honestly one of my favorite plays ever. It’s so good. 100 out of 10 would recommend, get this man some more of the recognition he deserves.
What to Read When You've Run Out of Reading Material
for the reader who just can't get enough.
Books in your bookshelf. Rereading is like greeting former friends. It means re-entering familiar worlds and receiving warm "welcome home" greetings from your favorite characters.
Poetry. From Edgar Allan Poe to Lang Leav, some poems are as short as five words, others take 1.8 million words. Reading poetry can enhance your language and cognitive skills, open your mind and stimulate your imagination, and make you more aware of the world and the people around you. Here's a compilation of free online poetry sites you can visit.
A topic you're interested in. Ever wondered how the government of Zimbabwe works? The Internet is home to everything you may be wondering about and longing to know. Take time to research and immerse yourself. You'll be armed with trivia that you can bring up in conversations. Stuck? Try experimenting with these weird-but-wonderful topics.
Discarded newspapers, magazines, pamphlets, etc. Besides using them as cat litter box liners and placemats, there's a lot of usefulness in reading them. You can find how-to articles, political opinions, and one-line comic strips. Maybe there's hidden treasure in their text.
Text from cereal boxes and other food containers. Want to know how much calories you consume from your Mars bar? Check the back of its packaging. Before long, you'll learn about terms like monounsaturated fatty acids and disodium guanylate. You are what you eat.
Your old writings. Take a trip down memory lane. It can be your third grade homework, confession letters to your middle school crush, or a story about dragons you made up when you were six. You'll notice how much you've grown as a reader and a writer.
Something from your book list. Your list consists of the books you want to read. These may be recommendations from your friends or interesting books you've seen online. Now's the time to tackle the books on your list. Haven't started on your book list? Take a look at these books!
Similar books from the ones you've previously read. Perhaps your favorite author wrote other books than the ones you've already read. Or maybe you want to keep reading about dystopian communities. Either way, the literary world is interconnected with millions of books for you to read.
Encyclopedias and dictionaries. These were invented for you to read them. Long before Google and other browsing sites existed, your ancestors looked up information from these thick, dusty hardcovers. Time to brush up on your knowledge, buddy.
Your last resort. This is the topic of your nightmares; something that you find boring or useless. You would never, ever dream of reading about this. But with your boredom and desperation to read something, you might find these topics interesting. Learning about the migration patterns of redwings could be useful someday.
10 Female Written Short Stories Everyone Should Read
I have seen a post circulating for a while that lists 10 short stories everyone should read and, while these are great works, most of them are older and written by white men. I wanted to make a modern list that features fresh, fantastic and under represented voices. Enjoy!
1. A Temporary Matter by Jhumpa Lahiri — A couple in a failing marriage share secrets during a blackout.
2. Stone Animals by Kelly Link — A family moves into a haunted house.
3. Reeling for the Empire by Karen Russell — Women are sold by their families to a silk factory, where they are slowly transformed into human silkworms.
4. Call My Name by Aimee Bender — A woman wearing a ball gown secretly auditions men on the subway.
5. The Man on the Stairs by Miranda July — A woman wakes up to a noise on the stairs.
6. Brownies by ZZ Packer — Rival Girl Scout troops are separated by race.
7. City of My Dreams by Zsuzi Gartner — A woman works at a shop selling food-inspired soap and tries not to think about her past.
8. A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O’Connor — A family drives from Georgia to Florida, even though a serial killer is on the loose.
9. Hitting Budapest by NoViolet Bulawayo — A group of children, led by a girl named Darling, travel to a rich neighborhood to steal guavas.
10. You’re Ugly, Too by Lorrie Moore — A history professor flies to Manhattan to spend Halloween weekend with her younger sister.

Hi all! I can imagine what you are thinking; who is she? I understand, I don't have a lot of followers on here or even mutuals. But since I have read a lot (and I mean a LOT) of Eddie Munson fics, I want to share my favourites of this moment.
Even if I can influence one person with this post, I would be happy. Where to begin, where to begin? I have so many that I absolutely love but I will share some in this post, in no particular order.
DISCLAIMER! This contains 18+, NSFW themes > minors DNI! Also, this is going to be a long read. Enjoy!
Note: I love every single blog on here, especially the ones that I follow. There are a lot of people who are so talented and have a writing gift (please share your talents with me) and I don't want to exclude anyone. If people like this, I will continue creating posts of my favourite fics and recommendations (of that time).
Dividers by @firefly-graphics & @silkholland
1. Title: Twenty-Four Hours
Writer: @ghost-proofbaby
Summary: In which Eddie Munson and you absolutely hate each other's guts. What happens when your friends make a bet that you can't spend more than twenty-four hours consecutively together?
CW: NSFW eventual smut > minors DNI! Strong languages.
Pairing: Modern!college!Eddie Munson x fem!college!reader
Tropes: Enemies to lovers, forced proximity, slow burn
My notes: This series has two of my favourite tropes: enemies to lovers and forced proximity. It is so well written and so much fun to read. Also, starting off with a bet?! One of my favourite things and takes me back to those 90s/00s rom-com vibes.
There is a story behind what happened with Eddie and the reader before, and it is so well-written that it keeps you on your toes while catching a glimpse from time to time of what happened that night they met. I can't wait to discover what happened and why they are the way they are right now.
I just can't get enough of this series and it is so good. It has enough banter, angst and humour. There is one scene in this series where the reader goes through Eddie's.. stuff, that got me giggling and almost cackling while trying to imagine Eddie's reaction. If you wanna find out which scene I'm talking about, you should read this series!
If you like these tropes, this one is for you!
2. Title: To know you're mine
Writer: @blue-mossbird
Summary: Where you and Steve swing with Eddie and Chrissy, and it gets complicated.
CW: for obvious reasons, NSFW > has a lot of smut. Minors DNI! body insecurity, swingers, group sex, dirty talk, emotional hurt/comfort, cheating, angst with a happy ending.
Pairing: Modern!au, Eddie Munson x Chrissy Cunningham x Steve Harrington x you, fem!reader, chubby!reader
My notes: Okay to be completely honest, I had my doubts when I came across this fic and before I started reading it. I am not that keen on the tags swinging and cheating in fics (with main characters). Most of the time, it is just not my cup of tea. But man oh man, when I read this, my doubts were gone, GONE I tell ya.
This is one of the best and most well-written pieces of art I have ever read. It is, obviously, a dirty and fun story. But the aspect of confronting changing feelings for another is written in such a mature way, it really sucked (pun not intended) me into this story.
Also, as someone who is not as skinny but not as chubby, it did make me feel better about myself while reading a reader that has the same insecurities as I have, and actually seeing it written in a story like this makes me feel validated.
If you like romance, angst and a LOT of smut? This one is for you!
3. Title: The "Yes" Policy
Writer: @pinkrelish
Summary: After a lifetime of questionable decisions, you moved from the big city to the sleepy town of Hawkins with your best friend, and took the first job you saw: answering phones for the most boring auto shop in the dullest place on Earth. It wasn't exactly the adventure you wanted it to be... but attempting to win over the jaded mechanic who insisted on ignoring your existence proved entertaining.
CW: It is NSFW since there will be eventual smut. You know the drill > minors DNI! angst, drug/alcohol mention/use, depictions of poverty
Pairing: singledad!mechanic!Eddie x fem!reader.
Tropes: A delicious written slow burn
My notes: Honestly, I cannot get enough of this one. This is my all-time favourite at this moment. The way this is written will make you giggle and blush like a high schooler. I don't think I can put into words how much I love this series.
Every chapter is a long read and every word got me hooked. Anticipating what is coming next. Every word, every action and every thought is so well written that I sometimes forget it is fiction and they don’t exist.
Also, Eddie Munson as a girl dad? Sign me up! The relationship between them, and his daughter with the reader is so adorable it makes my heart hurt. (I just wanted a happy ending for him).
It is also set a little bit later than season 4, it does look back on certain aspects of that season, but you just have to read this to find out!
If you love slow burns and strangers to lovers, this is it for you!
4. Title: Honey, I'm home
Writer: @trashmouth-richie
Summary: You were desperate for a roommate after Nancy got married and moved out. An ad in the paper goes unanswered until someone comes knocking on the door.
CW: NSFW, eventual smut > minors DNI! crude behaviour, Eddie is a fucking menace
Pairing: Eddie Munson x fem!reader
Tropes: enemies to lovers
My notes: Okay so enemies to lovers is my favourite trope, and yes I have issues but that's what therapy is for.
I don't know why everyone is writing enemies to lovers!roommate Eddie at this moment but please never stop. I love you. This series has three parts (as of creating this post) and the relationship between these two is so funny but also like, more realistic of some sort? Eddie is a fucking menace indeed but the reader is so stubborn as hell and does not let Eddie walk over her.
The way Eddie is written here made me cackle so hard because this is what I can imagine being roomies with him is like, to be really fucking honest. Anyways, I can't wait to see how this series goes and how the relationship between Eddie and the reader will shift to something more.
If you like enemies to lovers and menace Eddie, this one is for you!
5. Title: Bad Idea
Writer: @lunarzstarz
Summary: Not wanting to leave for college with your virginity still intact. you turn to the last resort that you know can only end terribly...
CW: NSFW > minors DNI! drugs, first times, oral (F receiving), fingering, unprotected sex, nicknames (princess/sweetheart), Eddie being a goof but also an asshole
Pairing: fuckboy!Eddie Munson x Virgin!fem!reader
My notes: okay listen up, this was so good. Normally, I stay clear of fuckboy!Eddie because I can't handle angst and there is, of course, always angst involved with him.
But this one? My god, I want him. Currently, as I am writing this, Shameless by Camilla Cabello came on and it is so fitting even though I do not know what is coming next. This was a delicious read and I can't wait to find out how Eddie will get his head out of his ass. I'm hoping the reader will have this impact on him that he can't explain and drive him crazy. That's all.
No but in all seriousness, this is also a piece that is so well-written and I can't wait for part two and three!
If you are into fuckboy!Eddie, this one is for you!
6. Title: The customer's always right
Writer: @lovebugism
Summary: Eddie Munson is a virgin and doesn't want anyone to know (because being an adult who's never fucked anyone is a total reputation ruiner). But you, his favorite customer, are more than willing to change that.
CW: Also for obvious reasons, NSFW > minors DNI! Virginity loss, new relationship shenanigans, mentions of previous toxic relationships, angst with a happy ending, canon divergent
Pairing: Eddie Munson x fem!reader
Tropes: friends to lovers
My notes: Okay you can never go wrong with friends to lovers, right? This is a fun and spicy read, with finally a not-so-confident and experienced Eddie regarding sex.
Meanwhile, I am a total sucker (pun definitely intended) for a confident, know it all, sex-god type of Eddie (because who isn't?!), this is a refreshing read. It shows a different side of Eddie. There are probably more virgin!reader x eddie, than the other way around, but I love to read these types of fics.
It is cute and spicy and has the right amount of angst. Like I have mentioned before, I'm usually avoiding angst fics because my heart will ache so bad and I physically can't take it, this contains just the right amount.
If you are also into virgin!eddie, friends to lovers, this one is for you!
7. Title: I want you to want me
Writer: @upsidedownwithsteve
Summary: Basically you go to a summer camp as a camp counselor and meet Eddie. You have one personal rule: no boys.
CW: So fluffy, it is sickening. A few almost kisses. Billy does make an appearance so I think that should be considered a CW?
Pairing: Eddie Munson x fem!reader
Trope: strangers to friends to lovers I think
My notes: When I came across this fic, I was already hooked by the fact is like a camp counselor!Eddie AND the first part was already 33K words. (if you haven't noticed, I loved long chapters). It fits the whole vibe with Eddie.
This is just pure fluff, teeth-rotting fluff and I absolutely love it. This is one of the best camp counselor fics I have ever read and it is overall just amazing. There is a part two and baby blurbs available to read too! I read these two back to back and even though it was a long read, it is worth it.
If you like camp counselor Eddie like me, this one is for you!
8. Title: Is it my body, part of the Super Freak series
Writer: @punk-in-docs
Summary: The one where Eddie gives you a ride home after your friend ditched you at a terrible party.
CW: This particular part doesn't have any CWs in particular, just fluff and pining. Some parts are NSFW (minors DNI!) because it contains smut.
Pairing: Eddie Munson x fem!reader
My notes: I am currently rereading this series because this is just amazing. This particular part has my heart. The flirting, the pining, the fluff, it all makes my heart melt.
Overall this series is so much fun to read. It finally has a reader who is not particularly popular but also not a total outcast. It just kind of hangs in between, just like I was in high school. Maybe that is why I love this series. And his nickname for reader is fucking adorable. Please.
Also, the friend of the reader in this series reminds me of my ex-friend who has a similar personality. I don't know why I gave you this information.
With that being said, I'm going to reread this series again and blush at this part.
If you like fluff, goofy Eddie with some smut, this one is for you!
If you made it to the end, congrats! Thank you so much for taking the time to read through a few of my favourite fics at this moment. They are all talented writers and I absolutely love all of their work. If you decide to check these fics out, please also check out the rest of their work! This took way too long to write but I hope you enjoyed it!
Thank you all, have a great day/night <3
Book recommendations based on your favourite authors
1. Oscar Wilde
Edward St Aubyn - Patrick Melrose
If you love Oscar Wilde i would recommend St. Aubyn's amazing novels. They are full of wit, cunning irony, upper - class critisicm and dry humor.
2. William Shakespeare
Margaret Atwood - Hagseed
Part of the "Hogarth Shakespeare Series" this is a brillant retelling of Shakespeares play the tempest.
3. Lewis Carroll
Michael Ende - Momo
Similar to Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, Ende takes us on a young girl's magical journey in which she has to bring back the "stolen time".
4. Stephen King
David Mitchell - Slade House
Stephen King himself recommended this suspensful novel about an abnormal house: “Hard to imagine a more finely wrought and chilling tale of the supernatural. One of the rare great ones.”
5. Suzanne Collins
Koushun Takami - Battle Royale
This book has a very similar storyline to Collins great Hunger Games Saga: a class of junior high school students is taken to a deserted island where they are provided arms and forced to kill one another until only one survivor is left standing.
6. Jane Austen
Goethe - Elective Affinities
A love story just as sharming and complicated as Jane Austen's beloved works: Eduard and his wife Charlotte enjoy a quiet but idle life in their estate, when their piece is fastly thrown into chaos as he invites his friend the Captain and she invites her niece Ottilie to stay with them: a story of forbidden love begins to grow as they both form attraction to their guests.
This one has a bit of a content warning including sa, domestic abuse, ableism, mentions of dub con/non con, ableist slurs.
So be aware that those are included yet this is a amazing little series and I can’t wait for the other parts and to read how the story unfolds

I JUST LOVE THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH SO MUCH!
the humour! the wit! the puns! the wordplay! it's all so beautiful! I'd completely forgotten this book untill i saw some post about it online, And i just finished re-reading it and I'm so in love with this book, it's such an absolute gem and i feel YOU (yes you) should go read it rn!
Here's some of my fave parts
A watch-Dog named Tock that ticks.
The best reason to do anything is a placard hanging around your neck that reads "WHY NOT"
Twin princesss named Rhyme and Reason whose absence has caused the world to fall apart.
A half-bakery that bakes half-baked ideas that go down easy but always disagree with you. ("The moon is made of green cheese" and "The world is flat" are my favourite flavours.)
A noisy djinn named Dynne, who produces the most awful din.
The Island of Conclusions, you get there by jumping (duh)
"Infinity is a dreadful poor place. They can never manage to make ends meet."
UNWELCOMING COMMITTEE.
The dog can fly because quite often...time flies.
And so, much more!
hey I like your posts where you review the books that you’ve read!!! I was wondering if you had any books recs????
AHHHH IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS QUESTION !!
Ok so it really depends on what types of books you like to read !! I read a lot of romance or sad books, so that’s honestly probably what I’m going to mention most. I also don’t really know how to word my thoughts, my thoughts are constellations I cannot fathom, so sorry if this isn’t really helpful :(
-The Dangerous Damsels series by India Holton is kind of like period romances but with a mythical element and each book is centred around its own thing. The first book, ‘The League of Gentlewomen Witches’, is about witches; the second book, ‘The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels’, is about pirates; the third book, ‘The Secret Service of Tea and Treason’, is like a secret service spy type of thing.
I like these books because they are SUPER funny and extremely witty. They’re well written and the romance makes me giggle in bed while reading it because it’s so cutie patootie and silly. There is smut as well, but it’s not really written like booktok smut, it’s written as if an aristocratic lady in England just discovered smut and if trying to recreate it without sounding improper.
- The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by V.E. Schwab is also a romance that I’ve read that I REALLY loved. The plot was really interesting and the way the author uses words to describe people and feelings are immaculate. It’s not a super long book, it look me like a day or two to read it. There were also some scenes that made me so sad but they were so worth it to the plot. If you like books that are kind of like ‘right person, wrong time” type of thing, you should read this !!
- The Rosewood Chronicles series by Connie Glynn is probably my favourite book series of all time. It consists of five books and takes place in a boarding school in England (so the vibes were so pretty and delicate) and the characters are so so so cutie patootie and their interactions are so interesting to read over. It’s literally just lesbians and gays going on adventures and getting mad at each other and being friends again and also princesses and royalty !! I love this book series I will cherish it with my heart
Ermmm that’s all I can really think to recommend for now, but it you’d like more, just ask !!! :3
