I love the idea of Danny being just Some Guy.

Like yes he’s Phantom, yes he has ghost powers, yes he’s the King of the Infinite Realms. But to the BatFam? That is just Some Guy. A random dude - if you will.

They are positively baffled by him. Like he’s completely normal as far as they (and the background check) can see. Yet, he. Is. EVERYWHERE. (Not actually but it sure feels like it.)

The kids have a running bingo card of where he’ll turn up. Outside a warehouse they’re raiding? Check. Stopped a mugging? He was the one being mugged. Tim’s favorite coffee shop? He was just hired as a barista.  Seriously it’s like everytime they turn around he’s there.

Which wouldn’t be such a problem if he REACTED NORMALLY. But no. He doesn’t flee in fear, stare in awe, he doesn’t even try to say thank you. This man looked Batman in the eye and called him the furry vigilante - TO HIS FACE! He casually referred to Dick as “the flying monkey one” to Red Robin while also calling Tim a literal walking Red Flag. When he crosses paths with Duke he doesn’t always speak but he does always give him a snack. (Sometimes it’s candy, sometimes it’s fruit but it’s always food. And he only gives them to Duke.)

He once told Jason that he didn’t care that he was a crime lord and built like a brick house, Danny would kick his ass and drag his “rotted milk soul” too hell if the gun fights kept going on past midnight. (He had exams in the morning damnit.)

He will only call Damian “baby ninja” no matter how many times the kid insists that his name is Robin.

Spoiler and Orphan? The only ones he’s respectful to but even they get the occasional random comment. (“It may be a Tuesday, but if the universe is gonna make me the human equivalent of a pin cushion then I have the right to keep the knife.”) (It was actually a Friday but who were they to argue with a man bleeding out in an alley.)

Eventually the Batkids start keeping score of who has had the most out of pocket thing said to them by this random white boy.

I need a Misunderstanding trope where Phantom is put with one of the ‘kid’ groups because everyone assumes he’s a teen, but Phantom (he’s, like, 28) thinks he’s just like… co-managing/supervising the group with another Justice League member.

Asked if he’s in school thinking high school? He says yes, thinking of college where he’s going for his graduate degree. His grumbles over homework and time management skills cements it.

ICE contact? Frostbite. Yeah, that’s really his name. (Jazz talked him out of putting her because if it’s an emergency then they likely need medical history and support.) Here’s a device to actually reach him. His parents? Uhhh, nah, I would put my sister second.

It just goes on.

The guy snarks, puns, and throws jokes, clearly up-to-date with internet culture. He’s a casual dude, loves video games, burgers, and space. He’s kinda short and a little lanky, but he’s stupid strong (like he both forgets he is strong and doesn’t know his strength at times).

Phantom’s checking all the boxes as a teen hero both visually and on vibes with the League so they put him there. Danny’s touched that they think he’s responsible enough to put him in charge of the kids, so he does his best.

(Batman finds out about the appointment after it’s approved, but before he says anything he sees how much the teens open up around Phantom and… well… if they didn’t do their homework to see that the Phantom persona has been active for 14 years with pop-ups through history then that’s not really his problem, is it? He might miss that Phantom doesn’t realise this for a while…whoops.)

My favorite brand of Batfam fics is the family learning that Tim was, in fact, a stalker.

Like they’re just talking about some random thing or another but can’t quite remember the specifics but Tim, who’s only been passively paying attention, hits them with a play by play and the exact date it took place.

Or Like Dick is talking about one of his first early takedowns and he starts to explain the riddle The Riddler was using and Tim pips up like “no, he used that one during the Arkham breakout Christmas 20xx. The puzzle for this encounter was…”

Jason is in the med hall and they’re trying to remember some injury report he experienced pre- pit and Tim just casually rattle it off like “oh I remember that fight. Got some really cool action shots before your arm broke.”

Just Tim knowing way too much about this family and the rest of them never fully realizing the extent of his knowledge until one day it just clicks.

Batman frantically trying to explain and defend Robin’s initial existence to the JL must’ve been a whole child endangerment conversation

Superman: so this is. an 11 year old. your sidekick.

Robin: partner actually!!

Wonder Woman: uhhuh… so this is your? ward?

Batman: ok so objectively it was the better decision than NOT making him a vigilante because he would have gone on the streets to kill a guy out of vengeance for his parents murder if I didn’t do this

Robin: yeah I would’ve done that!

Danny moved in the Wayne Manor. It took them three weeks to notice.

Danny stranded in Gotham.

After a while he did something not really clever.

He was walking past the Wayne Enterprise building, a Taxi holds beside him. Told him Mr. Wayne sends them to drive him home. So he got in and they drove him to the Manor.

Tim was working that day, Alfred was driving Bruce around, so Bruce send someone to pick up Tim. But Tim didn't knew that and was working longer, he then just got back to the Manor with his bike.

Danny knew he should not be here but. Nobody is home, there are a lot of free rooms, so no harm in staying the night, right?

The next morning he wanders down already planning on what to say, but he just got some food.

When Mr. Wayne sees him he just asked how his Day was.

Danny realized after a few days that, people constantly coming in the Manor and going out to the point where no one knows who lives there at the moment.

People passing him often mistaken him for someone else.

Or thinking he was a new child of Bruce.

Danny wonders how long this will work, sometimes he even eats breakfast with them.

It took three weeks until Jason asked bruce:" where did you steal/adopt this one?"

Bruce:" I didn't adopt anyone recently, not since Duke." he is mildly confused and looks up from the paper, first time he really looks at the small teen at the table who just casually sits between the other who came to a Sunday brunch.

He then asks:"Who are you?"

Danny puts an whole pancake in his mouth before he says:"Il probably just leave."
