14.14 Ouroboros

“Annoying, isn’t it?” Regulus said, pulling Remus out of his head. “Loving and hating Sirius Black at the same time.”

Remus face hardened, the anger he has been trying to hold back grew tenfold. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Regulus rolled his eyes. “The whole castle knows you and your Marauders had a bit of falling out and its easy to see that at the center of it all was my dearest brother.”

Remus gripped the book he was pretending to read and stared at the words not understanding it at all. Maybe if he ignores Regulus he’ll go away.

“It’s the ultimate Black Experience,” Regulus continued, not caring that Remus was willing him away with his mind. “Hurting the people we love the most.”

“He doesn’t love me.” Remus argued, not being able to stop the words from escaping. “If he loves me, he wouldn’t hurt me like this.”

“He hurt you because he loves you.” Regulus said, softly. Sitting across from Remus, the younger black look composed, elegant, like the heir he was. Remus could see the resemblance he and Sirius have. Bloody Blacks and their pretty genes.

“That’s bullshit.” Remus snapped.

“It is but its Walburga that taught us that so you can see how twisted our view of love is.” Regulus responded.

“We taught him how to love better, James and his family showed him!” Remus said. He knows how hard it was for Sirius to love and to accept it and it took all of them for him to understand that so why is destroying them?

Regulus sighed. “You can spend the rest of your life teaching him how to love properly but it would be hard to unlearn the very thing you grew up with.”

“That doesn’t excuse what he did.” Remus declared.

Regulus shook his head. “No, it doesn’t.”

“So what the fuck are you here for then? Trying to get me to join your ‘I hate Sirius Black’ club?” Remus mocked.

Regulus snorted, it look so foreign and so undignified that he tried to hide it. “I’m too busy to make a club dedicated to Sirius, no, I’m not here for that.”

“Then what are you here for?”

“If there’s anyone who understands what its like to love and hate Sirius Black it would be me. I know what its like to want to push him out of your life but also want to dig your nails into his skin so he can never leave.” Regulus said, calm and collected. The perfect heir to the noble house of Black.

Oh.

Remus stared at Regulus and finally he saw it. A 16 year old boy who misses his big brother, a little boy who’s responsibilities got bigger because his brother left. A lonely boy who wanted to hold onto someone who left without saying goodbye.

Regulus stood up, giving Remus one last look and then said, “It’s up to you if your anger means more to you than your love for him. Make him work for your forgiveness but don’t let him go. I promise you, you’ll miss him so much you’ll forget why you had to let him go.”

Remus later on gave Sirius the chance to talk because he knows, he loves Sirius Black more than anything and he’s not ready to let him go.

Sirius: I want to wake up with you every day for the rest of our lives.

Remus: I wake up at 5:00 AM.

Sirius: ...

Sirius: I want to see you at some point every day for the rest of our lives.
