Whumptober Day 1: "How Many Fingers Am I Holding Up?"

Summary: Crosshair is blinded by an explosion.
Boom. Explosions come with fire and fire comes with bright lights. Bright lights are blinding, expectantly to someone with strengthened eyes.
Suddenly Crosshair couldn't see. The world just went black. He fell to the ground, grabbing his face. He felt around trying to find his gun.
The clone's eyes burned. They were watery and sore, and now he had a headache. It was the first time he really realized just how loud a battle field could be. Having no sight made Crosshair pay more attention to his other senses.
He felt the strangely warm ground under him and how it shook when the bombs went off. He felt the sweat and grim on his skin. The terrible smell of iron and smoke filled his nostrils and feld into his lungs. The battle was loud. Far louder then he had ever noticed before. Yelling, explosions, blaster fire, droids, and the screams of the regs he swore not to care about.
Hunter looked around him. No one was there. There was no one to cover him.
But that didn't matter. Regardless, he rushed over to Crosshair to retrieve him from the field.
"Crosshair! Can you stand." He knelt beside him. "Are you okay?"
"I can't see!" He yelled.
Hunter's blood ran cold as panic flowed through his veins. "It's okay!" He grabbed his and took him behind a nearby rock.
He placed him carefully behind the rock and grabbed his blaster with his right hand.
"How many fingers am I holding up?" The sergeant held up 4 fingers.
"Hunter I can't fucking see! I don't know!"
"Okay. It's alright."
"Why the hell would you ask that?! I told you I can't see!"
"I'm sorry! I didn't know what kind of 'can't see'!"
Crosshair was shaking. What was he if not his sight? It was the reason he was created, his one use in the war was to be a soldier; to be a sniper.
"Is it getting any better?"
"No." Crosshair just about whispered.
"It's alright." Hunter looked around. He peaked behind the rock to see how far the droids had advanced. It was more than he would have liked. He shot a few then turned back to Crosshair. Now he just needed to figure out how to get out of there alive.
"What's going on?" Crosshair asked.
"It's okay. We just need to move."
"And where?"
"I'm working on that."
The woods weren't too far away. Maybe he could pull them there? Hunter could hear the air support flying in. He grabbed his brother's hand and pulled him to his feet. "Come on."
Hunter started running. Crosshair has no idea where they were going. But even so, he trusted his brother to get him to safely. Then Cross heard the air support. Moving made more sense now. Had they been behind the rock, they likely would have been blown up by there own team.
As the bombs were released Hunter pulled his brother to the ground, covering him. As his ears rang, he pulled him back to his feet and got them into the woods.
Crosshair didn't know what was happening. "Hunter! Hunter what is going on?!"
A few trees deep into the woods, Hunter pulled them to the ground. "It's okay."
"Where are we?"
"The woods. We'll wait here until reinforcements get here. It's okay." He pulled his arm up and as he went to comm his brothers, Wreckers voice came over the device.
"Where are you?" His voice shook with a sense of uncertainty that neither had heard his a while.
"The woods. Cross and I got pushed back."
"We will be there shortly." Tech chimed in.
"Crosshair can't see. I don't know if it's permanent or not."
"Alright. We will get it sorted out."
"Thanks Tech." Hunter turned off the device and looked at Crosshair. He looked unsure, almost like he was scared. Because he was.
Crosshair was terrified. "What happens if it's permanent?"
The question took Hunter off guard. "I'm not sure. But it'll be okay. Is it getting any better?"
"A little."
"See, it'll be okay."
"Yeah, it'll be okay."
Soon the rest of the batch would be there. They would take a half blind sniper back to a medic and keep fighting until the battle was won. And when they returned to see how their brother was, Crosshair had never been so happy to see them

Soultember Prompt 2: Soul Freckles
Fandom: The Dragon Prince
Ship: Rayllum
When kids are young, seeing shapes in freckles is playful. However when the kids started to get older, they began to be told that somewhere written on their bodies by these little specks of color, was a hint to who their soulmate was.
Rayla was always confused about the freckles on her collarbone. She knew that they would lead her to her soulmate but she couldn't figure out what they meant. They made two backwards Cs with a line at the bottom.
Callum never understood his freckles. They resembled a full moon. He used to think it was just a circle until he traced the dotted lines inside of it. The pattern rested on his collarbone. He wished to know who this mysterious stranger was who he was bound to by fate itself.
The moon shape always worried Sairi and Harrow. They tried to not think too hard about it or to let their worry get in the way of Callum's excitement and detective work.
Callum never understood their anxiety, why would his soulmate make them so, scared? Worried didn't quite seem right.
As time passed on, Rayla and Callum grew up. Callum became a big brother and lost his mother. He started training with Soren and drew as much as he could.
Rayla trained to be an assassin with Runnian. She lost her parents to the battle at the Strom Spire, and now was on a mission to kill the king of Katolis.
Life takes you places you don't expect. A mission of death led to Rayla and Callum meeting. It led to a beautiful friendship and a prettier romance. As soon as the mage used Aspiro, Rayla understood what the dots on her collarbone meant. The idiot that she was traveling to Xadia with, was her idiot.
Callum took a little more time to understand. The hints were supposed to be small. There was a curl irony to meet your forever love on the day you lose someone so important to you.
"So, did you ever make out your soulmate mark?" Rayla asked.
"I think so. My mom and stepdad used to be really worried about it, but I think they would like her." Callum blushed, "How about you?"
"I think so." She smiled, "so what is it?"
"It's a full moon." He pulled his shirt down to show Rayla. "What's yours?"
"It's a spell." Mimicking Callum, she pulled her collar down to reveal her freckles.
"Hey! That's Aspiro!"
Rayla giggled, "yeah, It is." The two were silent for a moment. "we should get going, gotta get Zym home."
"Yeah."

Codywan Week Day 7: Dancing
Summary: A few Jedi and Clones are invited to a senator ball to thank them for their war efforts.
The Senate ball was an annual for the Senate. However this year was different. The senators had decided to invite their most successful generals to show their appreciation. The Jedi could bring their commanders if they wished to.
Of course Anakin brought Ashoka along and Obi-wan brought Cody. Though Cody has never been to a fancy ball he knew Obi-wan would know what to do and he would get to spend time with his lover.
Obi-wan had grabbed one of his nicer sets of robes and Padma found Cody something nice to wear. The two showed up to the ball right on time and mingled with the senators for a little while.
Anakin and Padma stayed near each other the whole time while Ashoka and Rex rommed the dance floor. Neither could dance so they made it up as they went. Even if most of the music was classical music, they danced as if it was a high school party.
Obi-wan watched them, glad they where having great time and relieved the senators didn't mind. He watched Anakin and Padma get to close to each other and he watched as Cody tried to get used to the fancy chandelier and elegant dresses.
So badly Cody wanted to grab Obi-wan and take him to the dance floor or to take him for a walk in the garden they had passed as the walked up the stairs to the entrance. He reframed because 'what would the people think?'
As the night went on Obi-wan whished for the same thing. The ballroom was starting to get stuffy and overwhelming. He couldn't imagine how Cody felt sense this was his first big fancy event.
Obi-wan looked over at his commander and desired to leave this ball full of people who they couldn't be themselves around. He walked over to Cody and spoke to him. "Can we take a walk?" He said.
Cody felt his checks flush just a little. All night he had been waiting to Obi-wan to say something like that. "Of course." He took his generals and guided him to the back door that should lead to a large garden based off of the layout they had been given before.
The door opened silently and the two escaped out in the garden. The laughed a little as they walked around. Obi-wan grabbed Cody's hand once he deemed it to be safe.
They walked around the colorful flowers, lit up by moon light. Obi-wan filled Cody's head with the useless knowledge of what each of them were. The looked at the constellations, Cody knowing more of them then Obi-wan had expected.
The two lovers walked back towards the building. They stopped at the entrance of the garden, unsure if they really wanted to go back in. Inside the music slowed.
Obi-wan felt Cody grab his hands. The commander pulled them to his shoulder and waist Then he placed his own hands on the other and pulled him closer. "Can I have this dance?" He whispered.
A chill went up Obi-wan's spine. Everything felt so perfect. For a moment everything was okay. The vine arch above them created spotlights and the general breeze brought the sweet smell of the flowers to them. He smiled, "of course you can."
Slowly the two stepped together and swayed to the music. Obi-wan leaned into his chest and let his worry of slip away.
Near the end of the song Cody twirled Obi-Wan and he dipped him. Their faces were so close and without any hesitation they kissed.
They giggled and moved. Cody walked over to the entrance and picked a rose. He handed it to Obi-wan, "we should head back inside."
"We should." Obi-wan grabbed Cody's hand, "I had a good night." He leaned into him as they walked, only separating at the door.
"Me too."

Fandom: Star Wars The Bad Batch
Warning: Character Death
Summary: Hunter and Crosshair are captured by separatist. Now Hunter can't seem to reach his brother
Nothing could ever prepare Hunter for the horrors of war. He had seen it all first hand. Sure he had been training for this since he could hold a blaster but the real thing was so, bloody. It was like hell. Maybe hell would be better.
Everything that had happened had only made Hunter feel worse but slowly became less and less shocked and more and more unwavering. Until he woke up in a cold, dark cell. He wasn't alone.
Crosshair was with him. Slowly the memory of what had happened came back to him. But you have been captured by the Separatist while scouting for a mission. It had been damp and nearly day break when they were taken.
The clone remembered trying to reach out for his brother before the world went dark. Frozen hands had kept him from being able to reach Crosshair. He knew he had been hurt but he couldn't remember by what.
Crosshair had been shot in the side. He tried to move to help him.
Metal cuffs wrapped around his hands that kept him changed to the wall kept him from going any further. He was just out of arms reach.
Crosshair started to wake up. He winced as he sat up. "Hunter?" He asked.
"Yeah Cross, I'm here." Hunter kept fighting the chains. The clone could hear footsteps nearing the hall they were in. He pulled on his chains, trying to get to his brother. He could feel the skin under them start to get irritated.
"Hello clones" a male voice antagonized.
"Fuck off" Crosshair muttered.
Hunter remembered the man's face. The mission came back to him. They had gone to retrieve a Jedi from a Separatist planet before Dooku could get to them. The man in front of the two was the leader of the gang that had the general. He remembered being told that Tech and Wrecker had retrieved the Jedi and that Echo was ready with the Marauder.
Two men walked into the small cell and started to unchain Crosshair. He tried to fight, he did, but he couldn't.
Hunter jolted forwards, "where are you taking him?" He asked, voice demanding.
"That's on a need to know basis."
No matter how hard Hunter tried, he couldn't get to Crosshair. Soon he was alone again.
All he could do was wait and worry. Why had they taken Crosshair? Was he going to be okay? Was he alive?
What about the rest of the batch? Had they escaped alright? Hunter didn't hear their voices so he wanted to assume they were fine. Still anxiety creeped into his heart. He couldn't help but fear the worst.
There wasn't much to do when his brothers weren't around. He kept fighting the chains, trying to get them off. The base of his hands bleed as he pulled. He put his legs under him and pushed his feet against the wall.
It felt like his hands were slipping though for just a moment. Then he realized it was just his skin ripping as he pulled. But the clone didn't care.
Hunter thought back to his training. He'd learned that sometimes even that couldn't help. He thought about his anatomy. The man had always been fascinated with bones. Tech and him went through a phase together, learning everything they could about them.
He thought about the anatomy of his hand. If he dislocated his metacarpophalangeal and carpometacarpal joints, he might be able to slip his hand out of the chains.
It had been hours since Crosshair had been taken away. When Hunter heard footsteps in the hall again, he was relieved in a way.
A limp Crosshair was thrown into the cell without a word or even a look. Hunter moved his legs out from underneath him to break his brother's fall. It hurt but it didn't matter to him.
"Cross?" Hunter spoke softly.
Something was wrong. Something was very wrong.
As soon as the man was gone Hunter started trying to break his thumbs. It was easier than he thought to get the placement of the break correct. The hardest part was trying to do it without being able to see.
As Hunter tried to get his hand in the right position, he listened to Crosshair's breathing. It was slow and labored. Then it was gone.
Hunter forgot about his plan to break his thumbs for a moment. He pulled forward, the chains clicking together. "Crosshair!" He yelled. He put his feet behind him once more and slammed them on the wall. He pulled and pulled before remembering how to get out.
Instead of taking his time to plan out the dislocation, Hunter slammed his hand into the wall. He tried again and again until he had broken the joints.
It wasn't supposed to be painful.
The clone rushed to Crosshair's side. He pushed him onto his back and placed his hands on his sternum. He pressed into his chest, trying to save him. The repeated pressure on his hands only made them hurt more. '1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15' Crack. Hunter felt one of his brother's ribs break under the pressure. It sent a chill up his spine.
He tried.
As time passed, Hunter ignored the footsteps that had been growing louder in the hall. He tried to stay calm. Tears fell from his eyes as he tried to listen for any sign that Crosshair was alive.
Two guards walked into his cell and grabbed him. He kicked at them, trying to get away. As he watched the cell grow further he tired to figure out how to tell the others about Crosshair.
It wasn't long before he had to. As he heard three sets of footsteps his heart sank. What did he say? He fought against his chains for a moment before both hands slipped out of them. He stood as they entered the hall.
"Hunter" Echo said as he started to work on the door.
After a moment Wrecker asked the dreaded question, "where's Cross?"
Hunter sighed. "He's gone."
Soultember Prompt 3: First Words
Fandom: The Bad Batch
Summary: The first words your soulmate will ever tell you is tattooed somewhere on your body. Tech and Phee are about to meet for the first time.
The concepts of soulmates always fascinated Tech. How could the universe know exactly who you would fall in love with or be extremely close to. The fact that someone could be distended to meet, that destiny it's self existed, was quite intriguing.
He analyzed his words closely. "Hey now, got a name brown eyes?" Clearly their speech patter now informal. He'd have to correct that. The nickname brown eyes was quite strange. All clones had brown eyes. Well most.
The writing rested on the inner part of his wrist. Tech liked looking at the tattoo. If fate existed then he had to at least live long enough to meet them.
Phee questioned hers. 'A clone?' she wondered. It wasn't until the war that she knew she'd have to find him out of thousands of thousands of men. At least she'd have a big extended family.
After the war, Tech knew he'd find them because of the missions they would go on for Cid. Well he didn't know but it just right.
"Hey now got a name, brown eyes?"
"Tech, However the phenotypic eye color for all clones is brown."
Something felt familiar about the words.
"Brown eyes?" Tech repeated.
"Tech?"
Wrecker shook Tech out of excitement. "Tech! You found her!"
"Yes, I did."
Phee smiled, "well it's nice to meet you, soulmate."
"It is nice to meet you as well. Can we get on with the meeting?"
"Tech, this is a big deal. The meeting can wait just a minute."
"I do not know Phee. Our relationship should grow as we talk."
Echo got ready to do damage control. Then Phee spoke, "I think that would be great."
Hunter smiled softly. He knew this would go well. Maybe not in his head but in his heart.
"I have questions to ask later on the statistics of your tattoo as well as your thoughts." Tech said l.
"I can't wait, Tech." Phee smiled. Then meeting continued.
