Well Over Half The Worlds Population Of Vertebrates, From Fish To Birds To Mammals, Have Been Wiped Out

60% of world's wildlife has been wiped out since 1970
Problem more dire in Central, South America and Caribbean, study finds

Well over half the world’s population of vertebrates, from fish to birds to mammals, have been wiped out in the past four decades, says a new report from the World Wildlife Fund.

Between 1970 and 2014, there was 60 per cent decline, on average, among 16,700 wildlife populations around the world according to the 2018 edition of the Living Planet Report released Monday.

“We’ve had a loss of nearly two-thirds, on average, of our wild species,” said James Snider, vice-president of science, research and innovation for WWF-Canada.

“The magnitude of that should be eye opening… We really are reaching a point where we’re likely to see species go extinct. That’s true in Canada and abroad.”

New UN report outlines 'urgent, transformational' change needed to hold global warming to 1.5°C
Limiting global warming to 1.5C is a tough challenge but still within reach, according to a landmark report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change commissioned after the 2015 Paris summit.

This is very interesting to read about. Although in Europe bigger portions are becoming more popular we are generally used to the old tradition that not eating up your meal means something is wrong with it/that you did not enjoy it. Especially in more expensive places taking leftovers home is considered rude/greedy or simply not possible as you are supposed to enjoy your meal while you are there. Taking leftovers home is becoming more common but not the norm so this might be where the confusion comes from.

Note to vacationing non-Americans: while it’s true that America doesn’t always have the best food culture, the food in our restaurants is really not representative of what most of us eat at home.  The portions at Cheesecake Factory or IHOP are meant to be indulgent, not just “what Americans are used to.”

If you eat at a regular American household, during a regular meal where they’re not going out of their way to impress guests, you probably will not be served twelve pounds of chocolate-covered cream cheese.  Please bear this in mind before writing yet another “omg I can’t believe American food” post.

Bad move Tumblr

Even if not all of us users leave you have forced pretty much anyone who actively contributes art into your website to create alternative accounts at your COMPETITION on the web. Im sure Twitter, Printerest, Deviantart and co. will applaud you for that Christmas present and your bad marketing. #stupidity.

The idea that you are only sucessful and of value to society if you are in a relationship with another person.

What I mean when I say "toxic monogamy culture"

the normalization of jealousy as an indicator of love

the idea that a sufficiently intense love is enough to overcome any practical incompatibilities

the idea that you should meet your partner’s every need, and if you don’t, you’re either inadequate or they’re too needy

the idea that a sufficiently intense love should cause you to cease to be attracted to anyone else

the idea that commitment is synonymous with exclusivity

the idea that marriage and children are the only valid teleological justifications for being committed to a relationship

the idea that your insecurities are always your partner’s responsibility to tip-toe around and never your responsibility to work on

the idea that your value to a partner is directly proportional to the amount of time and energy they spend on you, and it is in zero-sum competition with everything else they value in life

the idea that being of value to a partner should always make up a large chunk of how you value yourself
