Actually, Ive Been Thinking About Pet Evacuation Recently And This Reminded Me Of How Im About To Start

actually, I’ve been thinking about pet evacuation recently and this reminded me of how I’m about to start trying to get my cat to go into his crate (or at least allow me to get him in easier) because I’ve started to overthink about scenarios where we need to evacuate. Not trying to start an argument or make a snide comment, I just find the timing of your post interesting

There is no argument. Anyone who does not yet have these plans and this training in place or is preparing to is being irresponsible. Even if you don't live in an area known for natural disasters, you literally never know what could happen.

You could have a house fire. A sinkhole. A burst pipe. Gas leak.

Anything could happen that means you need to get your pet out and you need to get your pet out now. It could literally mean the difference between life and death for both you and your pet to have these things in place.

I've seen so many heartbroken stories about how people lost their pets in things like housefires because they didn't know where it was hiding or didn't have a carrier to get it outside or it wouldn't go in the carrier because it had never been in one before.

You need to practice these things. You need to have a plan in place. You need to teach your pet that in an emergency you are the safe place. No matter how sure you are that you know your pet or you'll never be one of those people who needs to do it.

All pets where it is realistic to do so should be trained in:

Not freaking out if they wind up stuck or tangled in something. Especially prey animals like horses who can severely injure themselves and anyone trying to help them by panicking this way.

Evacuating the location in an emergency/rush and in the transportation method available. Trailer, carrier, ect.

Taking medicine, being inspected and treated for injuries.

Having their faces/eyes/ears/noses covered in the instance you need to do so to prevent them from inhaling something, getting something in their eyes, ect.

"Sexism in video games isn't a thing anymore!"

My brother in christ Kuro Games removed a male character's pant zipper because male players complained that their female players were having fun sexualising it and making jokes but refused to change the jiggle physics on a female character's tits which literally flop around and wobble when she's standing still breathing despite multiple complaints from female gamers.

Is true that people might take less serious some irl problems because of the desensitization that they gained from fiction

(I hope that this question makes sense)

No. Desensitisation happens through prolonged exposure regardless of the source. However, desensitisation is not inherently the problem. It doesn't necessarily matter if something is no longer shocking because we are so used to seeing it. It matters that despite it no longer being shocking, we still acknowledge that it is wrong and is something we need to take action against.

For example, while photos of bombings and dead bodies may no longer give you the same shock value, you can still resonate with the fact that it is an awful thing, right? Its not shocking anymore, because you know it happens and you know what it looks like, but it doesn't disincentivise you from taking action.

We live in a world that is constantly barraging us with gore, violence, bigotry and death. Its only natural that after a certain point we may not have the same visceral reactions to it as we once did. However, it should not impact the choices you make regarding what you do about those things.

I'd never see someone gunned down in the street and shrug it off because I'm so used to action movies and Call of Duty. That's just not how it works.

Actually I'm gonna unleash my frustrations here a little bit and say that if you're doing a roleplay or co-authoring a fic and you find yourself embodying one or more of the following statements:

Only I can make all the decision and choices and anything you try to input I veto or aggressively challenge until you back down.

My character is the ultimate Mary Sue and yours has to pander to mine constantly.

My character is super super intelligent and talented and pretty and everyone loves them and they're superior in every single way.

If I'm not interested in what you just sent I'm going to send the most half-assed replies and passive aggressively hope you strive to meet my unspoken demands and expectations.

Super hyper stereotypes where my character is the super precious submissive uwu bean slut and yours is the mega possessive alpha muscle man dominant.

Sit back and consider if you should really be involving other people or acting that way.

(The last one may seem like personal preference but I usually find its inherently tied with points two and three.)
