Is True That People Might Take Less Serious Some Irl Problems Because Of The Desensitization That They
Is true that people might take less serious some irl problems because of the desensitization that they gained from fiction
(I hope that this question makes sense)
No. Desensitisation happens through prolonged exposure regardless of the source. However, desensitisation is not inherently the problem. It doesn't necessarily matter if something is no longer shocking because we are so used to seeing it. It matters that despite it no longer being shocking, we still acknowledge that it is wrong and is something we need to take action against.
For example, while photos of bombings and dead bodies may no longer give you the same shock value, you can still resonate with the fact that it is an awful thing, right? Its not shocking anymore, because you know it happens and you know what it looks like, but it doesn't disincentivise you from taking action.
We live in a world that is constantly barraging us with gore, violence, bigotry and death. Its only natural that after a certain point we may not have the same visceral reactions to it as we once did. However, it should not impact the choices you make regarding what you do about those things.
I'd never see someone gunned down in the street and shrug it off because I'm so used to action movies and Call of Duty. That's just not how it works.

Yep.
Excuses I've heard for people who think needing a respite from negativity, activism and world horrors is a "bad take":
Reeks of white privilege or privilege in general.
Not being an activist in every single space you exist within 24/7 is actively contributing to the continuance of the problem(s).
Some people never ever for a single second of any day get to have respite so neither should you.
All art is inherently political. All of it. Also art is therapy so you have to see it or you're a cunt.
You're a cunt anyway.
Did I miss anything out?
im using a concept with my therapist called "emotional vomit" just things you say and do when you are in a state that you don't want to have to deal with after you are finished - I have a password protected side blog for that shit so afterwards I don't have to do any clean up when I feel better cause if you emotionally vomit on other people you would get the same disgusted reaction as if you actually vomited on another person when there is a TOILET RIGHT THERE
Emotional vomit paired with reflection exercises and discussions is actually a very common technique used in therapy to help promote self-reflection, understanding and the ability to manage your emotions and actions better in the future.
Its also something you can do at home, or you can ask your therapist to do of your own accord. You don't even necessarily have to only write things down or record yourself when you're in a high-emotion state. You can do it as and when.
I know a lot of excuses reasons for people wanting things like vent channels in servers is because they may not necessarily have that easily accessible outlet in their daily life, or because they feel they need outside input and sympathy for their suffering, but recruiting online strangers to be your unpaid therapists and emotional dumpsters is just overall iffy at best.
my disabilities chilled the fuck out when i got out of my toxic household I recommend a space of calm for everyone
People are genuinely acting like if there is one single space in the entire world where you are simply allowed to be at peace with other people then society as we know it will collapse and everyone who isn't a multi-millionaire will perish.
Would you consider it a red flag if someone in your fandom said "____should never be glorified/romanticized/portrayed positively in fic because young readers might believe this is what a healthy relationship looks like"? Or am I just paranoid about seeing antis everywhere? (not in the mood to be shamed/called out if someone went digging for the (relatively tame yet still unhealthy irl) kind of fic I write)
Most blatantly, yes.
Far too often fiction is deemed as the topmost or sole source of what we as people and society reference as what is 'normal' or what is to be idolised or idealised by, quite frankly, idiots. Its the same mentality as 'seeing boys kiss will make you gay.' They're essentially just claiming that people inherently lack the ability to think for themselves and will adopt what they see in fiction as a direct translation of reality.
This does, however, largely stem from our appalling global educational systems and online culture and religious oppression.
Fantasising about unrealistic relationships and relationship dynamics is nothing new, dangerous or damning. Trying to blame and condemn fiction as 'glorifying' anything because its romanticized or dramatized is just poor critical thinking skills, a lack of media literacy and frankly the poor ability to just have fucking fun.
Fiction is not inherently propaganda. It should not be treated as such. Fiction is not reality. It should not be treated as such. A reader's inability to healthily consume fiction is not the fault of the creator.
Frankly, if young people are reading or watching fiction and absorbing the stories as actual teachings and influences, that is a failure of a much larger system. And also an individual flaw.
If people are attempting to hold you responsible for the education of younger generations through your fanfiction, just block them or remove their comments. Or, do what I do, and simply reply back with multiple links to sources evidencing the contrary. And then block them.
