Omegle is dead. RIP to a generational gem.
For those of you who used it for fandom roleplay, EmeraldChat is a good, similar alternative. You can add interests in the same way, and there are additional options like sending images and saving chats.
This just in: antis bullied a rape survivor into closing down an internationally renowned website.
Censorship is the bane of all humanity.
I know you promoted Emerald Chat, but Rolechat.org is also a really good alternative which is active and specifically for roleplay - it's a bit better than emeraldchat because there are less weirdos.
I do have an upcoming post about them both. Part of the reason I promoted EmeraldChat is that site offers a bit more transparency and filtration of the people you're chatting with. Although Rolechat does also offer some pretty decent safety features, including blocking, which would've been a godsend on Omegle.
(Still praying one of the old moderators manages to take legacy of Omegle and reinstate the site. Hopefully with better functions and less bots.)
There are also weirdos on any chat site. That's unavoidable. I don't judge websites based on weirdos. I judge them based on what functions they give me to get rid of the weirdos.
That said, I haven't actually come across any on either site in ship tags, yet. I've probably jinxed myself with that, but hey ho. Its also important to remember that it was violently easy to code bots for Omegle, so a lot of the weirdos you ran into weren't actually people.

I've browsed multiple fandoms and so far haven't come across any of the issues that began cropping up with Omegle with the racist and homophobic copypasta bots. I'm not sure what if any infrastructure the site has in place for that if it happens, but so far in the fandom tags there doesn't seem to be any bots or spam at all for the ones I've browsed.
No issues with the site itself forcibly dropping your connection after a certain amount of time, either.
All in all, a 10/10 alternative and actually far better than Omegle itself.
Actually I'm gonna unleash my frustrations here a little bit and say that if you're doing a roleplay or co-authoring a fic and you find yourself embodying one or more of the following statements:
Only I can make all the decision and choices and anything you try to input I veto or aggressively challenge until you back down.
My character is the ultimate Mary Sue and yours has to pander to mine constantly.
My character is super super intelligent and talented and pretty and everyone loves them and they're superior in every single way.
If I'm not interested in what you just sent I'm going to send the most half-assed replies and passive aggressively hope you strive to meet my unspoken demands and expectations.
Super hyper stereotypes where my character is the super precious submissive uwu bean slut and yours is the mega possessive alpha muscle man dominant.
Sit back and consider if you should really be involving other people or acting that way.
(The last one may seem like personal preference but I usually find its inherently tied with points two and three.)
Omegle is so cool but the creepy old men always have to ruin the experience

Very interesting Thorki RP session I had with an awesome person over at Omegle. I basically winged it with the AU and we ended up with a rather nice little scenario involving an overworked Doctor!Loki and Trophy Husband!Thor who misses his love so much due to his ungodly working hours.
