About seperating fiction from reality, the wildest example is that guy who married Miku because:

He is well aware of his Miku obsession & Miku is a fictional character

Marries her anyways

He is still well aware that she is a fictional character & openly tell people that

His latest tweet says "I get criticized for having a wedding with Hatsune Miku, who is 16 years old. However, a fictional character set at 16 years old is not the same as a real 16 year old person. I always say, "Hatsune Miku is a fictional character." Please distinguish between reality and fiction."

Imagine getting scolded by the guy who is famous for marrying miku just because you can't seperate fiction from reality

I remember seeing posts way back when about Akihiko Kondo and laughing about it because haha funny, weirdo marries fake character, and then I remember seeing *this article, which honestly made me feel for him a little and lead me into looking into the story more.

Akihiko is honestly a legend of a man. I hope he continues to spend his days clowning the people who can't separate one's fictional interests to their real life existence. He helped to change my perspective on things a little and I hope he continues to have a long and happy marriage with Hatsune Miku.

*For those who don't want to click on a random link, the article references the fact that Akihiko married Hatsune Miku after growing attached to her helped him to survive a deep depression and personal issues such as anxiety and rejection sensitivity. His marriage to Hatsune Miku has allowed him to re-enter the 'real world' and gain confidence again.

You're the one making an assumption here... I never said everyone who ships is bad. I mean that there's enough of a problem with shipping that I and others feel uncomfortable associating with shipping culture. I'm saying more people should try to address issues with bigotry in their fandoms instead of acting like reality and fiction *never ever* interact. Proship is just a bad term and I hate that it's so common (so is anti)

You're The One Making An Assumption Here... I Never Said Everyone Who Ships Is Bad. I Mean That There's

Where did I make the assumption?

When you said:

"I'm not an anti, but I'm still going to criticize people for ignoring female characters or characters of color for the sake of only ever shipping boring white men"?

How about when you said:

"Proship sounds like you just ship totally uncritically which isn't any better than ONLY criticizing"?

And then there's:

"Proship is a bad term and I hate that its so common."

If you can't even recognise, understand and respect the literal definition of and history of a term, you are simply not ready or in a position to be trying to grandstand about it or argue about it. If you want to talk about bigotry, how about the female actors who get paid a fraction of what their male co-stars do?

How about authors of color who are told to use a white-presenting pen name in order to sell more books?

How about the fact that abortions are being controlled by religious fascists who are coming for birth control next?

How about the fact that China won't allow any form of queer representation in movies even if its only implied?

No? You're just mad that people aren't buying into the ship where the female character's sole role in the movie is to be the 2D love interest who's entire personality boils down to owning breasts and being either quirky or hypersexual?

I see.

recently a Youtuber with a popular warrior cat fandom posted a video detailing the living characters family trees. 1. Because people wanted it and 2. To "avoid" the ppl shipping the cats that are related..

If you have a fandom I feel like you have to accept the fact ppl are gonna be "problematic" this is. A bit much lmao. Like look at Kim Possible

Ooh, I'll have to find it again but I had an argument with an anti the other week because they were doxxing people and posting their accounts for people to 'block and bully' and when I told them they really shouldn't do that they said:

"Can you really blame me for not wanting to share a fandom with these people?"

Ma'am you do not have a choice. Use the block button and curate your own space.

I am so stupid because I'm out here like "I don't know why the antis in my fandom don't like me, I do not do anything that bad" and then my followers jumpscare me by reminding me of my multiple graphic kink fics that I forgot about...

Graphic kink fics are also not bad.

But also, there is a long, long list of reasons why antis don't like people. Often so extensive that most of them don't even like other antis.

Block them, report any harassment you receive, and continue to have a long and happy existence in fandom spaces while they froth at the mouth and spend their time stewing in rancid negativity.

It confuses me when people say they're "neutral" on the pro/anti issue. Aside from seeming dismissive, the strange part is that most of these folks actually do share the same beliefs as pro-shippers -- understanding that fiction isn't real, not harassing others over fiction, and being against censorship, etc -- but they don't acknowledge it for some reason? Because by saying that they don't harass other people over fiction and understand that fiction is separate from reality, they are agreeing with pro-shippers.

But then they supposedly don't "care" enough to "pick a side". Alright, so, why are you here? By commenting on pro-ship posts about how neutral you are, you are still getting involved. By saying, "I won't pick a side because [I think the fact that it's a problem in the first place is ridiculous since it's just fiction, come on now,]" you are sharing the exhausted sentiments of pro-shippers! We agree with you. We're also fed up with it!

(Sorry for rambling. Love your blog!)

A lot of it stems from not wanting to be associated with the concept of proshipping that anti-propaganda has perpetrated. The word 'proship' is a massive target on someone's back which has become synonymous for some people with things like pedophile and abuse apologist.

"Not caring enough to pick a side" can often be translated to "I support this one side, but not enough to open myself up to abuse and harassment on its behalf."

It can also be translated as "I support this side, but not enough to spend my time arguing about it with people."

All of which are valid stances to have. I'm friends with people who are both engaged and passive about proshipping.

YOU CAN NOW REPORT STOLEN CONTENT ON WATTPAD WITHOUT BEING THE ORIGINAL CREATOR

Wattpad Help Center: Reporting 'Published' Content If You Are Not The Owner

You can now report stolen content which has been wrongfully uploaded to Wattpad by thieves if you are not the original content owner by reporting it as a 'copy' of existing content.

I do not currently have any first-hand information on how reasonable or effective this is. Wattpad is not known for its readiness to protect content owners, however this is absolutely a step toward reforming the website and its policies on copyright and content protections.

However the only way to actually prove how important it is to protect copyright and just how badly Wattpad needs to start taking content theft seriously to actually and properly use this feature. If you are scrolling Wattpad and see "collections" or "re-uploads" of stolen works, please take the time to effectively report it.

Wattpad is full to the brim of stolen fanfiction and fanart. This is a step in the right direction toward teaching people proper copyright and consequences.
