Whats Your Opinion On C.ai Roleplay, Ai Art And Generative Ai In General?
What’s your opinion on c.ai roleplay, ai art and generative ai in general?
My opinion is that AI should make peoples' lives easier, rather than stealing peoples' creations and spewing out butchered replicas so it can "replace them."
All current creative accessible AI is modelled on the stolen content of hundreds of thousands of people. Character AI? Stolen fanfiction. ChatGPT? Stolen essays, novels, fanfiction, images. Generative AI? Same thing.
And once its in, its impossible to remove entirely. And the techbros making tens of thousands off your stolen content don't want to remove it anyway. When Glaze first came out they threw fits and tried to get Glaze legally destroyed so they could keep stealing and profiting off of content theft.
And its so fucking easy for people to mine content off of websites and steal your content without you ever even knowing! And if or when you do find out, its too late. Your content is part of that code forever. Its been absorbed, butchered, regurgitated.
AI in creative spaces does have a place, but it needs to be so, so carefully controlled and used. The widespread ability to just mangle together other people's creations and claim ownership of whatever it churns out is... Horrifying at best.
I vomit every time I see "made with ChatGPT!" on AO3.

why is privacy so eroded. I get treated like a nutcase if I say no, I don't want strange companies taking pictures of my home and putting them online for maps or whatever. I don't want to be in the background of your tiktok, and I think it's weirder for you to assume I'm okay with it than it is for me to politely ask you to refilm it so my face isn't in the frame. I don't enjoy handing my employer a list of every online account I have and feeling under surveillance when I'm just shit posting or sharing pictures of my cats or garden harvest. I don't want to hear your private calls on speaker on the bus, esp when the person on the line doesn't know you're broadcasting their words to strangers. I don't want an algorithm guessing what will piss me off the most so I spend more time online, engaging with shit I don't want to see or hear out of outrage. I don't want any of this. it's total ass.
That post you made about Harry Potter and how to not financially support and fund the franchise and put more money in Joanne's pockets felt like a lie because I swear I got the impression that even that wasn't allowed when the whole thing started
To be clear; I stopped. Completely. I compartmentalized it all and just stopped interacting with anything Harry Potter online whatsoever. But I always wished it would be fine to still be able to do certain fandom things without supporting her, but people were saying that even using the tag or reading the fanfiction or making fanart was still supporting the ip and not letting it die completely as a topic on the internet was indirectly putting money in her pockets.
It wasn't until I came across a post from a queer woman from somewhere in the global south with heavy OCD and intrusive thoughts or something like that, commenting on how hostile of a thing it became for someone of her affliction; the way people were treating it like do or die. Pointing out that no matter how much trans people and allys cut off their support of her, she has other large means of income that we won't be able to touch, and there will still always be transphobic homophobic Harry Potter fans that will continue to support her actively, putting that money in her pockets. Another thing she mentioned was the treatment of Harry Potter and Joannes bigotry in contrast to the treatment of FNAF and the creators bigotry. And lastly something about the USAmericanized nature of it? I don't really remember that part but I think I understood it at the time I read it (maybe it was something about all the other countries the IP is popular in who are probably more conservative and unaware or caring of the issues with her who will still put money in her pockets, or maybe it was something about American fans fixating and posing the support of her as the ultimate battlefield of Trans Rights to other queer and trans individuals trying to be quiet fans who are facing Much Worse in their countries)
Anyways after that I briefly started reading ao3 fanfic again, just put a filter for anything before 2019 or so, and then my interest more gently fizzled out.
I can't remember what my point is anymore, maybe just to bring these arguments to your attention(also I am not arguing against the financial boycott or ending of support for this woman through her ip).
Harry Potter will never stop earning money. That's just the flat reality of it; I mean, look at the likes of Elvis and the original Sherlock Holmes books and every other 'dead' media that's still earning money. Short of making Harry Potter an illegal piece of media, yes, there will still always be a number of people giving her money.
The goal is to give her less money. To turn Harry Potter from a prominent, profitable cashcow into a defunct piece of media that only select groups are still clinging to. To make it so that JK Rowling has to choose between paying her bills and funding anti-trans movements.
When something stops bringing in a certain amount of profit, studios start looking elsewhere. When a cashcow starts drying up, they stop trying to milk it as hard. Which in turn means less productions for JK Rowling to collect her pocketmoney from.
What would you rather; JK Rowling getting $100,000 or JK Rowling only getting $10,000?
Something is better than nothing. Damage reduction is better than open exposure. If everyone just rolled over and gave up because "things will keep happening anyway" the world will literally be a rancid, fetid wasteland of bigotry and violence.
I'd much rather watch JK Rowling fizzle out into a bitter old wench sustained only by the dogged support of other stubborn bigots than watch people willingly disregard and condone bigotry because its "easier" and "she'll be a bigot anyway."
I'd much rather JK Rowling only have $10,000 to donate to shitty movements over $72,000. Shitty movements can do a lot less with a lot less money.
What is "comship" and "safeship?"
(I saw an anti tag their anti ship post with #safeship which doesn't make sense to me but I was afraid to ask them lmao)
Comship and safeship both have multiple meanings and modern usage.
"Comship" is shorthand for "complex ship." This is being used by both antis and proshippers but is currently being hailed as an "alternative to proship" by most people.
"Comship" is also shorthand for "comfort ship," although you may sometimes see it spelt as "comfship."
"Safe ship" is another term for "comfort ship." That one pairing which is just homey, always hits the feel good spot, ect.
*Some antis are using "safeship" as a way to mark their account as "safe for shipping" excluding proship or questionable/dark content. So essentially a place that is "safe" to "ship normally."
Seeing them being used together is definitely a contradiction; but its likely they were just using the tags for exposure and to generate interaction. Its a common tactic used by both proshippers and anti-shippers.
(For example if I make a post which is relative to both anti shipping and proshipping, and/or I want discussion from both sides, I will use both the anti-ship tag and the proship tag.)
*Some proshippers also use #shippingsafe or #safeshipper to indicate they are a "shipping safe space."
Wattpad's TOS are actually criminally hypocritical and ridiculous the more you read them. The website is literally just:
"Give us all your content for free to do with as we please and let us expose you to 493737573 website cookies and advertisements but also if you change the color of our logo we'll sue and if someone gets inaccurate medical advice from your fanfiction and sues we're also going to sue you for exposing us to risk."
Wattpad can mine your content but you can't mine Wattpad.
Wattpad can sue you for absolutely anything they perceive as "damaging" or "breach of terms" but the moment you make an account you release them of any and all claims, damages and responsibility.
If Anne Rice 2.0 does happen, Wattpad has so kindly declared that they reserve the right to be the sole defense, so they can throw you under the bus and then charge you for any and all fees incurred including legal and "related" costs. Oh, and you have to co-operate because, guess what? You agreed to!
In the instance you do wind up in a legal battle for your own content you're shit out of luck because Wattpad will have no part in it other than making sure its absolved of any responsibility and costs, and you're restricted to attending Court only in the Province of Ontario.
Like. How anyone still uses Wattpad is beyond me. Completely. It so obviously nothing more than a for-profit content theft facilitator. I feel like we've just moved so far beyond the need for Wattpad. Its so outdated even if you don't look at the TOS.
