Anti Harry Potter - Tumblr Posts

"let people enjoy things" is about like. danganronpa or hannibal or something else like that. not the antisemetic wizard game that's going to be funding anti-trans campaigns in the uk.

To make it clear; this account nor I support in any way JK Rowling, the Harry Potter franchise or any other franchises she's dipped her bigoted little toes in, however.

Some of you who are just making emotional rage posts with no sensical point, threats, no information or evidence, ect, are just doing more harm than good. And I don't mean the actual posts from trans and Jewish people expressing they're hurt. I mean the all caps 'I hope your family burns if you buy the game' kind of posts.

JK Rowling is wealthy, influential and self-assured. If we're going to have any impact at all on a woman who's experienced that amount of success in her life, its not going to be by screaming into the Tumblr void.

Email your local bookstores, chain stores, supply stores, ect and, with evidence, present to them why they should remove Harry Potter merchandise from their stores. If you're also doing so, you can inform them you will be staging peaceful protests, boycotts of their stores, ect. (I got two of my local chain stores to stop selling rawhide dog products this way. If you present the facts and the brutal reality of how damaging something can be for their profits and business, they tend to listen.)

Send letters and emails to your local libraries and book clubs and schools. The same as above; politely inform them of the facts and ask them to remove anti-semitic propaganda from their resources. Print out informative leaflets and ask to leave them at the desk or in waiting rooms.

People are still, no matter what, going to want to buy Harry Potter merchandise, so instead of buying from retailers and corporate producers, show them small businesses and independent artists! Not only are you supporting an individual person, but JKR won't get a single penny of that sale. Royalties? No Ma'am. Not in this house. JKR has openly bragged about her royalty cheques. A significant portion of those is merchandise and licensing.

Share the information, evidence and perspectives of the Jewish and trans people being impacted, profited off and ignored! Perhaps the most important part! If you're just claiming the lore and plots are antisemitic, show why! Share the voices of the people being harmed and ignored! Tumblr is actually great for that. There are a multitude of detailed, informative posts on here that need a louder voice. Link them. Share them. Send screenshots or cited copies to people.

And lastly, try to be patient and understanding when trying to help people see the facts and bigger picture. Not everyone will fully grasp the points and gravitas of it the first go around. They might not fully understand the points being presented, and that's okay. We've all seen a news headline and rolled our eyes and dismissed it as dramatic fearmongering only to later see more information and realize that, actually, it is a big issue.

(Actually also lastly is please don't resort to violence and death threats and harassment. It accomplishes nothing and will only be weaponised against the actual people and posts providing information, resources and activism. Don't give them a reason to ignore those posts and focus on mockery and spite.)

If your comfy feelings and nostalgia are still more important the rights of human beings to simply exist, buy fanmade merch. Buy merch secondhand off resale sites. Stop buying directly from the source, stop buying licensed material which directly lines her pockets.

Pirate the fucking movies instead of streaming them directly and racking up numbers that keep her shit in profit.

Another Reminder To Stop Buying/watching/reading Anything JK Rowling Associated

Would I be the asshole if I bought Harry Potter merch anyway or is it just antis or others shaming me? I'm not a fan of Harry Potter, I just want to buy what I want without being shamed into "supporting" bad things.

I don't want to be known as an Israeli supporter because I buy Starbucks.

The thing is, the issue with buying these things is that the money you give those companies then contributes to supporting something awful. Which means if you know that, and you're still willingly giving these companies money, you're either declaring you just don't care or you're declaring you support what they're doing.

Like I said; if you genuinely can't live without Harry Potter merch, buy it secondhand. Or buy fanmade merch where absolutely none of the money is being funnelled into anti-trans and anti-queer movements and goal corporations.

Here's a scenario for you:

I'm walking down the street and there are two stalls. Both are selling the same thing. One of the stalls has a notice saying all the money raised today will go into funding animal abuse. Dog fights, ect.

The other stall has a sign saying all the money raised today will go into funding the stall owner's ability to keep making products as an alternative to the other store, so you can get the same product without funding the horrific abuse of innocent animals.

Now again, remember: they sell the exact same thing. Exact same price.

So. Do you think I'm a bad person if I choose to buy from the stall that funds animal abuse? Even though I really, really love animals and have the option not even two feet away to make the same purchase knowing it means the other stall gets less money for their horrible goal?

Because that's what Starbucks and JK Rowling and Nestle and Chick-Fil-A do. When you buy their products, you're actually putting money in their pockets which then gives them the ability to fund things like anti-trans movements, conversation camps, child slavery and xenophobic wars.

JK Rowling can't donate 75k to anti-trans movements if she doesn't have 75k to donate.

You're not being "shamed into not supporting bad things." Frankly if you have to be shamed into not supporting those things I think that answers your question anyway. But you are being given facts to make choices with.

And you can't stop people from looking at the choice you made and deciding if that makes you a bad person or not.

If buying anything related to Harry Potter can be harmful because the creator can use the money to support bad things, why is it still famous? Why people still like it?

Because people are selfish and don't like being told what to do or being told they're making a bad choice.

When it first started coming out that JK Rowling was a bigot, people immediately began to use their own comfort and happiness as a defense for her actions and supporting her.

"Well Harry Potter made my childhood happy so I don't care what she does!" was a prominent argument.

People still like it because they can't separate their enjoyment of it from the reality of what Harry Potter is and who JK Rowling is. Its still famous because in its prime it was a fucking massive franchise. It held a monopoly on the movie market. It boomed. You can't just erase that kind of fame, especially when people still cling to it.

I can tell people until they're blue in the face that the money they give JK Rowling by purchasing licensed Harry Potter merch or streaming Harry Potter on official platforms or attending Harry Potter world or any of the other 38474 ways she's milked that cow for money that they're directly allowing her to keep funding these anti-trans movements and giving her a platform to spread hate but I can't actually make people do anything.

People have to stop being selfish enough to recognise that the issues and bigotry JK Rowling is perpetrating are far more important than the cozy little feelings they get from Harry Potter. People have to make the choice between their own feelings and the literal rights of human beings to exist and receive medical care, jobs, legal rights, ect.

With my recent Harry Potter posts gaining traction, I just want to make an important note:

You are not a bad person for having enjoyed Harry Potter. You are not a bad person for finding it hard to let go of something so ingrained into your life. You are not a bad person for enjoying the overall story of Harry Potter despite the bigotry JK Rowling managed to smatter into it.

Nobody should be telling you that you are. Your past relationship with Harry Potter is not the issue.

The issue is what you and we all do moving forward with the new information and facts that we know.

And the facts are that JK Rowling is a rampant and proud bigot who is hellbent on using the fortune Harry Potter made her to actively pursue the entire trans community with hostile intent.

And she does not care. She is happy that she is doing it. She is happy that people oppose her because it gives her an excuse to play victim and paint trans people who oppose her as violent, aggressive and evil.

This is not about how you engaged with Harry Potter in the past. Or even how you engage with it privately. This is about whether or not you choose to contribute toward her mission and towards the persecution of trans people right now.

Because when you buy that licensed merch in the store, she gets part of the profit. When you go to Harry Potter World, she gets part of the profit. When you buy the Harry Potter game, she gets part of the profit.

And all of those things result in three consequences:

It shows the marketing departments that Harry Potter is still a cashcow.

It shows JK Rowling that she can say and do whatever the hell she wants and nothing is going to stop that money rolling in.

She is given a steady cashflow which she uses to bankroll anti-trans movements and spokespeople and government petitions.

That is the reality of your choice from here on out. That is why people are asking you to set aside what you once had with Harry Potter and to stand with the people she has made it her life's mission to destroy.

You don't even have to let go of it completely. Just let go of the interactions that directly fund JK Rowling. Just cut off the cashflow she's using to ruin the lives of people she's never even met.

Buy fanmade merchandise or learn how to make your own. If you're cosplaying? Buy unofficial cosplays or buy second-hand off resale websites. Same with other merchandise.

If you want to watch Harry Potter, there are hundreds of non-licensed steaming websites showing it which do not contribute royalty income to JK Rowling.

If you're writing Harry Potter fanfiction, use a site like AO3 which will defend you tooth and claw if she gets desperate and starts coming after fan creators.

Harry Potter might be the comforting memories of your childhood, but JK Rowling is an active threat to the literal livelihood of trans people. People who could lose legal rights and protections simply because of one vicious woman with a bigoted agenda and deep pockets.

All we're asking is that you compare your reasons for enjoying Harry Potter with the facts of why you should make a few simple, easy choices to avoid bankrolling her and determine which is more important.

Or rather, which one should be more important.

And make the right choice.

That post you made about Harry Potter and how to not financially support and fund the franchise and put more money in Joanne's pockets felt like a lie because I swear I got the impression that even that wasn't allowed when the whole thing started

To be clear; I stopped. Completely. I compartmentalized it all and just stopped interacting with anything Harry Potter online whatsoever. But I always wished it would be fine to still be able to do certain fandom things without supporting her, but people were saying that even using the tag or reading the fanfiction or making fanart was still supporting the ip and not letting it die completely as a topic on the internet was indirectly putting money in her pockets.

It wasn't until I came across a post from a queer woman from somewhere in the global south with heavy OCD and intrusive thoughts or something like that, commenting on how hostile of a thing it became for someone of her affliction; the way people were treating it like do or die. Pointing out that no matter how much trans people and allys cut off their support of her, she has other large means of income that we won't be able to touch, and there will still always be transphobic homophobic Harry Potter fans that will continue to support her actively, putting that money in her pockets. Another thing she mentioned was the treatment of Harry Potter and Joannes bigotry in contrast to the treatment of FNAF and the creators bigotry. And lastly something about the USAmericanized nature of it? I don't really remember that part but I think I understood it at the time I read it (maybe it was something about all the other countries the IP is popular in who are probably more conservative and unaware or caring of the issues with her who will still put money in her pockets, or maybe it was something about American fans fixating and posing the support of her as the ultimate battlefield of Trans Rights to other queer and trans individuals trying to be quiet fans who are facing Much Worse in their countries)

Anyways after that I briefly started reading ao3 fanfic again, just put a filter for anything before 2019 or so, and then my interest more gently fizzled out.

I can't remember what my point is anymore, maybe just to bring these arguments to your attention(also I am not arguing against the financial boycott or ending of support for this woman through her ip).

Harry Potter will never stop earning money. That's just the flat reality of it; I mean, look at the likes of Elvis and the original Sherlock Holmes books and every other 'dead' media that's still earning money. Short of making Harry Potter an illegal piece of media, yes, there will still always be a number of people giving her money.

The goal is to give her less money. To turn Harry Potter from a prominent, profitable cashcow into a defunct piece of media that only select groups are still clinging to. To make it so that JK Rowling has to choose between paying her bills and funding anti-trans movements.

When something stops bringing in a certain amount of profit, studios start looking elsewhere. When a cashcow starts drying up, they stop trying to milk it as hard. Which in turn means less productions for JK Rowling to collect her pocketmoney from.

What would you rather; JK Rowling getting $100,000 or JK Rowling only getting $10,000?

Something is better than nothing. Damage reduction is better than open exposure. If everyone just rolled over and gave up because "things will keep happening anyway" the world will literally be a rancid, fetid wasteland of bigotry and violence.

I'd much rather watch JK Rowling fizzle out into a bitter old wench sustained only by the dogged support of other stubborn bigots than watch people willingly disregard and condone bigotry because its "easier" and "she'll be a bigot anyway."

I'd much rather JK Rowling only have $10,000 to donate to shitty movements over $72,000. Shitty movements can do a lot less with a lot less money.

Unpopular opinion but Harry Potter franchise will not suddenly stop existing or being a relevant part of popculture if you bully some fanfiction writers on tumblr.

We could start working towards reducing the damage JKR caused by being popular person with a platform but people would rather do bare minimum of telling random HP fans to kys instead of doing any real work.

I've got a multitude of posts about this already. The unfortunate reality is that JK Rowling will always earn income from Harry Potter. When something is and was popular on the magnitude that Harry Potter is and was its impossible to completely kill it, but what we can do is metaphorically kill the creator.

(I must absolutely stress I mean that metaphorically.)

I've already detailed it in my other posts, but the goal should be to withdraw support until the only people still funding and platforming her are bigots like herself. Let her rot in her own community and only have a voice amongst people who only care about her because she parrots their rhetoric.

De-platform Harry Potter. Pirate it instead of paying for it. Downvote it and review bomb it on all platforms. Kill the cash cow it became.

If we can bully a multi-billion dollar company into changing the CGI of a fucking hedgehog we can force Warner Brothers to owe JK Rowling the bare minimum.

I have to say, there’s nothing more satisfying than browsing the Hogwarts Legacy tag and blocking everyone who is playing, supporting, or just generally speaking positively about the game.

Rosie: Can I go to the bathroom dad?

Conner: It's may-

Rosie: Actually it's June.

Conner as he slowly takes a random set of glasses off: You dare use my own spells against me Potter?

Emily: Really? A harry Potter reference in June?

Connor: Yes. I know the author is transphobic and all that.

Connor: So that's why I'm taking you guys to her house to utterly trash it. You'll get 20 marks if you do it.

Everybody: *Turns head around* Really?

Connor: Yes. I am being serious.

*Few minutes later, JK Rowling's house is utterly destroyed*

Thomas: Yeah. That's what the transphobes get when they disrespect trans people.

Amen. The logical conclusion was for Harry and Draco to reconcile Gryffindor and Slytherin. But JKR doesn't do logic, she does revenge fantasies and childish protagonist favouring.

Snape was given a chance but was reduced to being a Gryffindor worshiper, someone who should have been a Gryffindor and was remembered and honoured for his Gryffindor qualities.

The only good Slytherin is a dead Slytherin.

Eta: also, every good thing Snape did was to atone for the horrible things he did before he became a spy. The worst things Draco did (torture) were under coercion while Snape was happy to let a baby die. He's the reason someone's parents are dead. Snape stans are gone in the head to believe that man deserved anything more than a literal child who didn't know what he was getting into and then wanted out. Just completely mad.

Snape didn't truly love Lily, romantically or platonically. If he did he would spare a thought for her baby. What he felt was a reaction to someone finally showing him positive attention and then guilt.

Jkr can say all she wants that Snape wasn't a hero but the way she wrote it (which is what matters), Snape was lionized in the end.

reminder that draco malfoy deserved the redemption that snape got

I think it's time we introduce a new tag in Drarry fics: sectumsempra apologism. It'll serve as a warning for the people who'd rather avoid JKR levels of glorification of Harry (and bad writing) and it'll be especially useful in longer fics.
