What Happens In Purgatory Stays InNew Orleans? Was Someone On Supernatural A Fan Of The Lafitte Cafe
What happens in Purgatory stays in…New Orleans? Was someone on Supernatural a fan of the Lafitte Cafe (https://lafittes.com/), or is this just another amazing coincidence? I could see our dearly beloved Purgatory vamp finding his way out again and starting a bar (we know Ty played a bartender earlier in the show lol). Benny would invite Dean and Cass over for old-time sake…and maybe a few rounds of pool.
History: The Laffite Cafe’s bar is open 24 hours a day and has had influential guests, including Tennessee Williams and Truman Capote. Operating since the end of Prohibition, (albeit in two different locations), the original Cafe Lafitte opened in the building that had been the noted pirate Jean Lafitte's blacksmith business in the 18th century. This building is now called Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop.
In its early days, the bar was managed by Mary Collins, a lesbian, and drew a mixed crowd of lesbians, homosexuals, and heterosexuals. In the 1950s, during rising tension between the club and the landlord, manager Tom Caplinger moved the club to the building where it is now located. At the grand reopening party in 1953, patrons arrived costumed as their favorite 'exile', including people like Oscar Wilde, Dante, and Napoleon.
Ghost Stories: In the book Queer Hauntings, Ken Summers writes that bar patrons claim to have occasionally seen the ghosts of deceased individuals who were fond of the bar as well as a "frisky" ghost named Mr. Bubbly who pinches people on their rear ends.

"Writing is different. Ordinary people don't understand. Other people get into occupations by accident or design; but writers are born. We have to write. I have to write. I could work at selling motels, or slopping hogs, for fifty years, but if someone asked my occupation, I'd say writer, even if I'd never sold a word. Writers write. Other people talk." - W.P. Kinsella - Shoeless Joe (book that inspired Field of Dreams)
It was Calypso's birthday, and the fireworks were booming away in the night sky. They were so bright and loud that even under the ocean, they caught the attention of the mermaid Ariel. Her father, King Stede, thought she was home working on homework, but she had snuck out of her room to treasure hunt.
When she surfaced and saw the massive pirate ship, Ariel was intrigued and went to investigate. What she saw onboard was a whole bunch of joyous people loving life and each other.
She was watching them dance when her friend, Buttons the Seagull, came to say hello. She tried to make him go away so he wouldn't alert the pirates of her presence, but he didn't listen…like usual. As they watched the party continue, a very handsome bearded man started to sing.
Now, even the mermaids knew about Blackbeard, so as the lovely song filled the sea air, Ariel recognized him leaning against the railing. Seconds later, she watched as he went to move but slipped and tumbled backward into the ocean.
Ariel went to rescue him but found her dad had gotten there first. Guess he had figured out that she wasn't at home doing her schoolwork and had come to find her. Hmm…her dad and Blackbeard were staring at each other rather oddly.
Oh! OHHH!
And then Ariel watched as her dad transformed into a human and went with the pirate onto the ship. Blackbeard found some clothes for Stede, and Ariel smiled as the besotted man introduced her dad to the crew.
Her attention turned upward then as a new set of fireworks started. It wasn't until the last sizzle of color faded from the night sky that she noticed her dad and Blackbeard were not on deck. Wanting to be sure the dreaded pirate didn't hurt her dad, Ariel swam around and looked in all the windows for them.
OHHHH F#ck!!! She shouldn't have looked in that window! As happy as she was for her dad, that was definitely not the image she wanted to have burned into her brain!
Samba was on a very pivotal episode of 911 in season 4 (911 S4 E5 Buck Begins)
Was watching Supernatural S14 E10 Nihilism on TNT and I saw something carved into the bar when Pamela drops the limes. Headed to Netflix to grab a screen shot and had to chuckle. I adore this show and all the love and details they put into every episode.
