As John Jones, J'onn is a private detective unaffiliated with the cops because he doesn't like the system of oppression cops uphold. Other than that, as Amrit, J'onn works as a child psychologist.

Think Theo from The Haunting of Hill House mixed with the protagonist of The Children Under the House analog horror film. Using a mix of telepathy and detective-ing, J'onn operates through Amrit as a means of protecting children of all sorts.

I love the thesis of this show. The fact that the main villains are government leaders, members of the upper class, and a colonizer who believes he is justified and above all else. That law does not equate morality. Clark wishes to help the criminals he faces, never to commit violence but to ensure a future for them. Lois learns some of the most important lessons of her life from someone most would perceive as evil. Clark is willing to put himself in harms way to save strangers who would kill him, and feels intense rage at those who wish to pave a path in blood. "Love is not for cowards".
