WRITING PSA

The three types of subplots:

Serving - directly increases the difficulty of the main plot

Enhancing - clarifies the stakes of the main plot

Contrasting - works against the goals of the main plot but in doing so illuminates the values of the main plot

What if you finish your wip??

What if its good? Better than you imagined?

What if people read it? What if someone loves it?

What if someone memorizes that one quote they love?

What if you get that agent?

What if it becomes a movie?

What if you are someone's favorite author?

What if it helps someone?

What if it all works out?

What if someone is touched?

What if it's more important than you ever expected?

What if it changes your life?

What if someone gets the courage to do that one thing they couldn't of before?

What if you are proud of it?

What if someone see's themselves in your writing?

What if you finish your wip?

Hot (medium lukewarm) writing take

Life and death stakes are not enough to motivate your characters (most times), they have to have other motivations. Why are they staying alive otherwise?

The only exception I can really think of is if you writing about a character choosing to live, I still think that even that is iffy.
