Welcome to Rise of the Clans (RotC), a fantasy discord-based RPG directly inspired by the warrior cats series created by Erin Hunter.  You are not expected, nor required, to have read any official canon material released to be a part of this group! All lore developed is original, based on the worldbuilding from the canon series.

This group originally started over on deviantart several years ago, as a deviantart and skype hosted RP. Over the years, the group has changed with the times, and was formally rebooted and opened to the group it is today, on August 19th, 2019! With deviantart's recent forced changes, RotC has left deviantart for good, and is now hosted on Discord, with a google website (coming soon!) in tandem.

Rise of the Clans is set in a fictional region in the United States, generally assumed to be located around the Pacific Northwest! As a result, there are a variety of naturally occurring phenomena, such as mountain ranges, lakes, marshes, the ocean, as well as more urban lifestyle, with a city located far away, along the ocean's coast. Weather can be extreme being so close to the ocean, as well as closer to the United State's northern border.

Communities of feral felines have come to dwell in several places across the region. From the city to the mountains, felines live all different walks of life.

There are four Clans that reside besides a lake with territories filled with diverse terrain and foliage, known as WoodClan, ValleyClan, RockClan, and StreamClan. Up within the mountains are a feline community known as Fjell'Byr, who organize themselves into factions to support a united, large population. Outside of these populations are rogues, loners, and kittypets.

This roleplay is plot-driven, both by an overarching groupwide plot, as well as both indirect and direct influences by personal character plots. As a result, roleplay mechanics are always updating and expanding, as members contribute and introduce new canon.  Through group participation to earn group currency, simply called "points", your character can unlock potential plots that can result in permanent, canonizing changes to the roleplay.

We are LGBTQ+ friendly, and encourage character creation from all walks of LGBTQ+ life!

StreamClan's Camp - Rise of the Clans

Location

The cats of StreamClan make their camp on an island surrounded by water on all sides. The only way to enter the camp is either to swim or to use the stepping stones located on the far side of camp. Reeds and bushes surround the perimeter. On the north side of camp lies the stepping stone path to get to the StreamClan training grounds. A large willow dominates one side of camp; within its trunk, the Leader of StreamClan makes their den. Although this camp is overall really secure due to how tough it is to enter, the threat of drowning is very real for kits; adults are advised to constantly keep watch.

Dens

StreamClan cats make their dens among the bushes and reeds that make up the outside of camp. On the inside, there is special care to pad the walls with bracken and branches, to prevent cats from accidentally stepping in water. In times of heavy rain, the Clan sleeps under the willow tree, as the dens are susceptible to light flooding due to the waterline swelling from rainwater.

WOODCLAN - RISE OF THE CLANS

OVERVIEW

Shrouded in foliage, WoodClan spends most of their life underneath the barrier of trees they call home. They are best known for their dutiful behavior, patrols never being missed and borders maintained perfectly. WoodClan has a strong sense of community and support, which is reflected in their choice of specialty rank -- the counselor, trained to aid their Clanmates through their mental woes and resolve internal conflict. 

TERRITORY

WoodClan territory is best characterized by the tight pine trees that cover the territory. Only WoodClanners know their way around the forest; newcomers are prone to getting lost and end up walking around in circles until a WoodClan patrol leads them out-that is, if they grow bored of watching the newcomer wander aimlessly! A trained warrior's eye is able to pick up the small winding paths that lead to the Thunderpath, the camp, and the training grounds. The main prey here are mice, squirrels, and songbirds, and very rarely, owls. The main predators are foxes, badgers, martens, large owls, and raccoons. The cats here are typically striped and dark colored, to best blend in with their territory.

DAILY LIFE

WoodClan prides itself on having obscure territory that they can quite literally disappear into within the blink of an eye. As a result, patrolling and maintaining the border is extremely important to this Clan. WoodClan cats also pride themselves on how good they are at hiding, and at younger ages often play hide and seek with one another to practice hiding in the territory. There is a strong sense of community and support for one another, as the forest of their territory gives off the impression of total privacy. One of the first training activities for new apprentices is to train their apprentice how to navigate their tricky territory. Naughty, adventurous kits are prone to getting lost in the territory if they make it out of camp, resulting in loud crying that experienced warriors can pinpoint almost immediately.

SPECIALTY RANKS

Following the murder of Bluefern and the eventual execution of Graybriar for his death, WoodClan’s morale was low. Hazelstar and Owlshine, then Leader and Deputy of WoodClan, sought for a way to improve their Clan’s attitude for the better. The role of Counselors, unlike the combat focused ranks of Warriors, are there to act as a comforting paw for their Clanmates, and are expected to put aside any judgement or prejudice to be the branch between the leadership of WoodClan and the cats that serve them. They are not expected to participate in border patrols, and are the last picks for any hunting patrols to ensure their presence whenever a cat needs them. A cat can begin training underneath the Counselors after completing their Warrior’s training.

While we always require & provide proper censors and warnings whenever these themes are present, please keep in mind these themes may be introduced indirectly or directly to your roleplaying experience. BANNED CONTENT: Because we are a minor-friendly group, absolutely no 18+/NSFW content is allowed to be within or associated with the group whatsoever, both in and out of character. This is including but not limited to sexual content, any innappropriate relationships between adults, as well as adult and underage individuals, (il)legal substance usage and abuse, self harm, suicide-related topics, detailed depictions of severe abuse, and anything that falls within our zero-tolerance policy. SKILL LEVEL: Rise of the Clans is an English-Literate Roleplay/Writing/Art group. We welcome all roleplayers of any skill level: beginners to the world of art, writing, and roleplay are more than welcome to join! Please keep in mind, however, that this group will have minimums for reading comprehension, writing, and roleplay-related activity requirements to maintain membership within the group. There is a lot of reading of lore, mechanics, etc. to be able to participate fully within Rise of the Clans. Please only join if you feel your skill levels are enough to meet the minimum reading, writing, and roleplay literary requirements! Being able to create artwork is not a necessity to be able to participate in this roleplay: you may use any artwork that you have the consent and rights to use. If a roleplayer chooses to use others' artwork with prior consent and permission, this artwork must be properly credited. Those who are brand new to art, however, are encouraged to begin trying within this group: we strive to support and foster a new artist’s journey into the world of art! AI artwork is NOT accepted within Rise of the Clans whatsoever. We will not accept traced or stolen artwork, and pre-emptively ban those with a public record of doing so. Anyone caught violating rules in regards to artwork will result in immediate removal and a permanent ban.

FJELL'BYR - RISE OF THE CLANS

OVERVIEW

Fjell'Byr is a feline community that is a mix of feral cats and Fjell. The Fjell are a unique hybrid species of lynx and cat mixed together. They live far away, high up in the mountain ranges that oversee the Clans of the Lake. To journey from the Clans to Fjell'Byr takes several quarter-moons, and is not considered easy to travel. Unlike the Clans of the Lake, they do not insist on borders, and instead welcome all to traverse or visit their community, known as a Byr.

TERRITORY

Fjell'Byr's territory is not defined by formal borders: travelers are welcomed to traverse through their territory. The mountains are already dangerous as is, and it is not in Fjell'Byr's spirit to make the wandering traveler's life more perilous. It is cold, and snow is always present. There are trees lower down within the mountains, but as one climbs higher and higher, the skies are as open as the view across the horizon.

DAILY LIFE

Fjell'Byr is a large feline population that spans across the mountains, resulting in a social hierarchy to ensure cooperation and unity across the Byr. There are three main factions:

The Disciples, who take an oath of pacifism and specialize in medical care of Fjell'Byr

The Champions, who battle-train rigorously even as full-fledged Champions to specialize in protecting Fjell'Byr

The Scouts, who are swift with their paws and keen in their senses, who specialize in keeping a watchful eye, and hunting, for Fjell'Byr

Their high ranks are a delegation of representatives from the factions, known as the Circle, as well as six main figureheads:

The Monarch, who is the leader of Fjell'Byr and has the highest authority

The Heir, who is next in line to become the Monarch

The Herbalist, who has final say in prophecies and care for Fjell'Byr

The Head Disciple makes the final decisions for the Disciple Faction, and reports to the Herbalist

The Head Champion makes the final decisions for the Champion faction, and reports to the Monarch and Heir

The Head Scout makes the final decisions for the Scout faction, and is relatively new to Fjell'Byr's hierarchy

Through this social structure, Fjell'Byr thrives in peace and harmony.

GHOSTS - RISE OF THE CLANS

Ghost characters are a unique, special playable character type in Rise of the Clans: they are active, undead spirits that haunt the territories the Clans call their home. It's unknown what compels one's spirit to manifest as a ghost, but there is one being responsible for this happening: Ether.

PAST LIFE MEMORIES

A ghost will never be able to formally recollect their entire life while alive. It is up to roleplayers what memories are taken from life into death!

HAUNTING THE LIVING

Every ghost is tied to a specific location as their "haunting grounds". They can only visually manifest at night. It takes a lot of energy for a ghost to manifest in front of the living: as a result, they will eventually fade from view after being spotted. They cannot interact with the physical world, but they can enter cats' dreams. They are somewhat transparent, with their eyes always "blanking out" into pure black or pure white, with no pupils or irises whatsoever.
