WOODCLAN - RISE OF THE CLANS
OVERVIEW
Shrouded in foliage, WoodClan spends most of their life underneath the barrier of trees they call home. They are best known for their dutiful behavior, patrols never being missed and borders maintained perfectly. WoodClan has a strong sense of community and support, which is reflected in their choice of specialty rank -- the counselor, trained to aid their Clanmates through their mental woes and resolve internal conflict.
TERRITORY
WoodClan territory is best characterized by the tight pine trees that cover the territory. Only WoodClanners know their way around the forest; newcomers are prone to getting lost and end up walking around in circles until a WoodClan patrol leads them out-that is, if they grow bored of watching the newcomer wander aimlessly! A trained warrior's eye is able to pick up the small winding paths that lead to the Thunderpath, the camp, and the training grounds. The main prey here are mice, squirrels, and songbirds, and very rarely, owls. The main predators are foxes, badgers, martens, large owls, and raccoons. The cats here are typically striped and dark colored, to best blend in with their territory.
DAILY LIFE
WoodClan prides itself on having obscure territory that they can quite literally disappear into within the blink of an eye. As a result, patrolling and maintaining the border is extremely important to this Clan. WoodClan cats also pride themselves on how good they are at hiding, and at younger ages often play hide and seek with one another to practice hiding in the territory. There is a strong sense of community and support for one another, as the forest of their territory gives off the impression of total privacy. One of the first training activities for new apprentices is to train their apprentice how to navigate their tricky territory. Naughty, adventurous kits are prone to getting lost in the territory if they make it out of camp, resulting in loud crying that experienced warriors can pinpoint almost immediately.
SPECIALTY RANKS
Following the murder of Bluefern and the eventual execution of Graybriar for his death, WoodClan’s morale was low. Hazelstar and Owlshine, then Leader and Deputy of WoodClan, sought for a way to improve their Clan’s attitude for the better. The role of Counselors, unlike the combat focused ranks of Warriors, are there to act as a comforting paw for their Clanmates, and are expected to put aside any judgement or prejudice to be the branch between the leadership of WoodClan and the cats that serve them. They are not expected to participate in border patrols, and are the last picks for any hunting patrols to ensure their presence whenever a cat needs them. A cat can begin training underneath the Counselors after completing their Warrior’s training.

Welcome to Rise of the Clans (RotC), a fantasy discord-based RPG directly inspired by the warrior cats series created by Erin Hunter. You are not expected, nor required, to have read any official canon material released to be a part of this group! All lore developed is original, based on the worldbuilding from the canon series.
This group originally started over on deviantart several years ago, as a deviantart and skype hosted RP. Over the years, the group has changed with the times, and was formally rebooted and opened to the group it is today, on August 19th, 2019! With deviantart's recent forced changes, RotC has left deviantart for good, and is now hosted on Discord, with a google website (coming soon!) in tandem.
Rise of the Clans is set in a fictional region in the United States, generally assumed to be located around the Pacific Northwest! As a result, there are a variety of naturally occurring phenomena, such as mountain ranges, lakes, marshes, the ocean, as well as more urban lifestyle, with a city located far away, along the ocean's coast. Weather can be extreme being so close to the ocean, as well as closer to the United State's northern border.
Communities of feral felines have come to dwell in several places across the region. From the city to the mountains, felines live all different walks of life.
There are four Clans that reside besides a lake with territories filled with diverse terrain and foliage, known as WoodClan, ValleyClan, RockClan, and StreamClan. Up within the mountains are a feline community known as Fjell'Byr, who organize themselves into factions to support a united, large population. Outside of these populations are rogues, loners, and kittypets.
This roleplay is plot-driven, both by an overarching groupwide plot, as well as both indirect and direct influences by personal character plots. As a result, roleplay mechanics are always updating and expanding, as members contribute and introduce new canon. Through group participation to earn group currency, simply called "points", your character can unlock potential plots that can result in permanent, canonizing changes to the roleplay.
We are LGBTQ+ friendly, and encourage character creation from all walks of LGBTQ+ life!

AFTERLIFE - RISE OF THE CLANS
The General Spirit World
All animals when they die become a spirit in the afterlife. Their species, beliefs, and choices in life, will determine their outcome and afterlife residence. Next to the living in the waking world, spirits and ghosts also traverse the land, in a different realm of existence. The Spirit world is all-encompassing, thought to exist in the same reality. Some afterlives are located within the stars, others are in dark regions that only malevolent, malignant beings seeking to harm will find themselves...
StarClan
The Clans of the Lake believe that when a warrior dies after living their life as authentically as possible following the Warrior Code, their spirit will live on forever with StarClan. Their territory can be found watching the Clans from above, in the starry night that covers the lake, known as Silverpelt. All good Clan cats will find themselves as part of StarClan, regardless of their prior Clan in life. Here, the season is always Greenleaf, and it is a mixture of the lushest, most vibrant nature. Streams and ponds are filled with crystal clear water, crisp and clean in taste, stock full of fish and other prey. The grass underpaw is soft, plush, and always seems to shine golden when the light hits it just right...
The Place of No Stars
Warriors who repeatedly, intentionally, break the warrior code and bring harm to others, will find themselves in The Place of No Stars, also colloquially known as the Dark Forest, after dying. It is a large, dim, wretched place of existence, with only a ghostly pale gray light in the far, far distance serving as the only source of light. Stjar'Keld
Fjell'Byr felines find themselves in Stjar'Keld after death. They reside in the skies above the mountains, so that they may watch over their living counterparts. Stjar'Keld's territory is a bit more of a mystery to Fjell'Byr, as living spirits do not visit the territory like a Clan warrior might visit StarClan's territory in their dreams. As a result, their realm is thought to be a bit more ethereal in interpretation, with emphasis on the bright midday sky. Only the residents of Stjar'Keld truly know what their territory looks like...
THE EMPTY
The Empty is a vast expanse of open, blank rolling fields and open sky in between the realms of the afterlife. The time of day is always dusk, just after sunset, with the stars in the vast distance that define the other realms of the afterlife, such as StarClan, twinkling overhead. There is no prey, water, nor shelter, but none of that is needed: hunger, thirst, and fatigue are not experienced by the spirits that wander the Empty. Wandering aimlessly somehow always leads to nowhere, no matter how far a spirit walks...
Ghosts
Ghosts are active spirits that haunt the living both in the waking world, and in a cat's dreams. They are selected by ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ to become a ghost, and it is completely indiscernable as to why, or when. It does not seem to be based on morality or prior choices in life: only Ether himself knows why he chooses the spirits he does to return to the living once more as a ghost. By rejoining the land of the living, ghosts will lose memories of their previous life. The memories, and the amount, vary, but there is no ghost that can recollect their entire past...
WoodClan's Camp - Rise of the Clans
Location
In the thick, tight pine forest WoodClan calls home, there is a single, large clearing that serves as WoodClan's camp. On either side, large thick bushes serve as both dens and the camp's walls. At the end of the clearing, a large, long dead oak serves as the Leader's Den. Sometimes for fun, or to take a nap, warriors of WoodClan will shelter in the large, gnarled branches of the dead oak. Because this is the only place the forest opens up, this is the one part of the territory where sunlight can directly touch the grass underpaw. Because this is the one clearing, it's virtually impossible to locate this camp to complete strangers of this forest.
Dens
Giant, thick bushes serve as the dens for WoodClan. While not pitch dark like the burrows of RockClan, the thick leaves and tangling branches of the bushes make these dens very, very dark overall. Cats must be careful not to trip over the large, thick roots: if a warrior's not careful, they're easy to trip over. Rarely, there are nooks and bends in the bushes that make the perfect lofted nests, for the very particular.
