Now That Ren Has Died I May Have The Motivation To Finish That Piece I Started Brainstorming A Couple
Now that Ren has died I may have the motivation to finish that piece I started brainstorming a couple months ago. I was waiting for the Dracula Daily readers to get to that point before continuing, so I could post it in those tags. It’s just a matter of finding the time to do so…

![A messy, digitally drawn sketch, of Strahd von Zarovich.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/fa599e7a05e73318ff26bacf527c58f3/f43b37b57376caa2-24/s500x750/69deebcfade6d1ab11bf33263e432141fdf21fbd.png)
I'm going to be introducing my CoS party to Vasili von Holtz in the next session, and needed to decide if Strahd looked good with his hair in a braid. As there were no preexisting depictions of this, I had to make one of my own.
So here it is.
![A photo of a 25 mm Dungeons and Dragons miniature, from Reaper Miniatures. It's a demon warlock, dressed in bright red robes and leather armor. His left arm is a golden prosthetic, and holds his skeletal staff. His other arm reaches into the sky, and lines up with the sun in the background, creating the illusion of flaming magic dancing in his hand. The rest of the background and environment is filled by blurry pine trees.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/aa0f98539ba7bfd76283e8d5da380ffd/cc36b302402e5ae5-23/s500x750/00eebf83c2a95621ccdcf979180079c1c2480b54.png)
I finished up my third DnD miniature! The image is slightly edited to change the hues of the sun and the shadows at the bottom, but nothing about the character's paint job was changed.
The miniature is from Reaper Miniatures, named "Vatanis, the Maggotcrown Warlock," and was sculpted by Bobby Jackson.
Notes about the paint job and photography process are under the cut! Critique is always welcome!
Notes:
I don't know if there is any official color palette for this character, I just decided to use one inspired by the character Lucio's, from the game The Arcana, mainly his red jacket/cape, and golden details and arm.
The lighting, aside from the slight change of hue under the main light source and along the sun rays, is entirely natural. I finished this model in less than a day to make sure I could take advantage of the setting sun. The unedited version of this is up on my Instagram.
Once I'm sure I won't take any more pictures of him, I'll paint his base black. Originally it was kept grey to blend into the rocks I thought I was going to use as an environment before I got this shot.
This was taken on my iPhone, and edited with Clip Studio Paint. When it comes to mini paints, I have no form of brand loyalty, and used a mix of Army Painter paints and washes, then a couple Citadel technical shades.
![A digital drawing of a Goldenrod Crab Spider, sitting on a purple flower with the moon at its center. The spider has a pale body, with pink markings along its abdomen and legs. It's face and eyes are also pink. The markings on its abdomen form a very simple eye shape, with the shifts in hue and saturation.
The flower petals are very dull, being only slightly purple. Small tears and holes are scattered along the petals, darkened and withered at the edges.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b61eeae98f7cc7e011e2bdee49049c03/650fc79091a1c90c-30/s500x750/fffbfc2a478ae321c2cdd68a86d479218e1ca44f.png)
I have finally drawn a spider! (:
For someone who has themed their biased a large portion of their online presence around spiders/bugs, I sure don't draw spiders a lot.
Spiders are my favorite animals, and this one is a depiction of the Goldenrod Crab Spider, my favorite species.
I can't stand drawing the segmented legs on members of the phylum Arthropoda (includes but not limited to spiders, insects, centipedes, shrimp, etc), so I don't tend to draw spiders. This time I just improvised the legs and hoped they turned out okay.
I had a poll up on my Instagram to determine the color palette, choosing between a sun themed design, and this moon design.
![An unfinished piece of digital art, depicting two figures standing together. The closest figure has his back to the viewer, and is not completely colored and rendered. His hair is dark, with flecks of ice. His partner is completely colored, with pale skin, red hair, and blue and red makeup. She is wearing a corset with sequins. There is blood in her hair.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/1eb74d67d3e75b7c4fe4253f55858dc5/51ee2a38bd8485dc-9b/s500x750/949ec19b0a5dc0a9bc0f082835a442f0fc8d162f.png)
Check out what I was working on before my tablet may have died. (,:
It will probably be a couple weeks before I'm able to make some more digital art, so expect more traditional sketches and mini art in the meantime! (:
![A digitally drawn portrait of Percy, from Critical Role, shown from the neck up, and facing to the left side of the canvas. The blue collar of his jacket covers the edge of his jaw. His eyes are dark, and smoke flows out of his mouth. He is bleeding from cuts on his cheek, his forehead, nose and mouth. The sun is hitting his face, and casting the rest of his head in shadow.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/aa524f2925b14e534bf70bac68e57481/4a3ced48aefe5b1e-e2/s500x750/3e59506414600a557c6fe88b86323c76d99118cb.png)
I have begun my third attempt at getting into Critical Role, this time by watching the TV show and making fan-art as I start listening to the podcast again. I've gotten the farthest I've ever managed to get though Vox Machina so far (episode 3) so I think it might be working.
Feel free to send me asks relating to the show or potentially requesting I draw some of the characters, so I have a consistent reason to keep listening. I enjoy it a lot, I just don't focus well on it for long periods of time.
My thoughts about the piece are under the cut! Critique is always welcome!
Notes:
This was originally made as some lighting practice, using some of the gradient options available in Clip Studio Paint.
The coloring took about 1.5 hours, much less time than my last portrait.
The face proportions are a little off, I need to work on drawing some more faces.
