All New Information Belongs In The First 3 Chapters
All New Information Belongs in the First 3 Chapters
The final part of the series where I share the advice my mentor gave me after she read my first 30 pages. (This is part 6, find part 1 here!)
The last big piece of advice she told me that may apply to stories beyond my own was that all new elements in a story need to be introduced in some way in the first three chapters. Past the third chapter, there's not enough time to introduce something new and explore it fully.
This “third chapter” rule may adjust slightly depending on how long your chapters are, so I would aim for the first 10 000 words or so, or the first 30 pages.
This applies to the introduction of characters, aspects of your world, or other elements. That doesn’t mean that every element of the mystery should be solved by the third chapter, just that the mystery should be introduced by then.
After the third chapter, we spend the book building off of what we know—expanding the world, deepening the characters, revealing more information, etc.
If it comes out of left field later on in the story, it’s going to seem random and irrelevant. If you want to pull off a twist, you introduce it without clueing in the readers that you’re introducing it. Then later, when the twist happens, they think “ohhh, it was right in front of me and I didn’t see it!” Far more fun than something that occurs from nothing.
Good luck!

Hi! Just saw your newest Astro observations post - was wondering what your perspective on having the sun sign and a stellium in the same sign (Scorpio) would manifest as? Thanks in advance and hope you have a great day :)
Hi! And thank you for asking!
Sun and a stellium in the same sign
These people often have the main character energy to them. They have a tendency lighting up the room, where they enter into. They're often seen as a very charming and charismatic person. You will probably get more recognition in life and the recognition is seen there, which house the stellium lies in.
These people may relate more to their sun sign than an average person would do. You might also fit more to the stereotypical description of the specific sign. You may appear to have a memorable personality, which is usually something other people remember the best you of when spending time with you.
They appear to have a strong character, which gives them excellent leadership skills. In Scorpio, which is a fixed sign, you might attract a lot of attention and you could be seen as someone stable, which is quite ideal for a leader (ofc this depending on the house where sun sign and the stellium lies in). Due to this, they are trusted and respected among others and communities they belong to.
I'm a bit late, but hope you're having a good day! 👋💕
It's so ridiculous that I have to run around like a rat in a rat maze to simply change my availability to prevent myself from working anymore from evening to morning shift back to back. It's especially draining the ever-loving youth from me. No wonder people are saying Gen Z is aging like spilled milk. We're being forced to work these long ass shifts to simply put food on the table and prevent ourselves from being one paycheck away from homelessness. Which I find to be so fucking frustrating and disgusting this is the state of my society. Especially when you complain about it, everyone is quick to classify you as an ungrateful young person who doesn't know true hardship like our elders from the past generations. In addition, your workplace will hate you for wanting better for yourself and basically will target you and belittle you constantly so you eventually just quit and go back to square one.
